Esha

Arg. I tried to post last night but apparently it never went through!
What about the farmers? Maybe they grow violets? Violets are plants and farmers grow plants! Or we could try to talk to Tamli again? Maybe she isn't so mad any more! By that time, maybe Phinnik will be here? Oooh! OR! We could look for Phinnik on the WAY to talking to the farmers and Tamli!" Esha hops up and down with excitement, her battle axe clanging against her armor. It's important that she's dressed for battle - just in case!
Like Laurel, Esha first looks at Laurel and Oosa and then looks expectantly at Calvus the Wise. This is a lot. I don't really know what to do - I have never investigated a MURDER before! But Calvus always seems to know what to do. He's very smart and wise. And Oosa and Laurel are good partners in investigation. And fighting. Or healing. If you're Oosa.
Oosa Toadlicker
"No, I means, is there anyones in town that is good with chemickals. If there's no we know, is there a place that smells really funky? That would be where they makes the chemickals." Oosa complains.
Montgomery Hall
"Delma looks at Oosa. There used to be, but she left years ago, and hasn't been heard of since. Vilree Eldara, a half elf. Her mother was an apothecary, and was blamed for much of the destruction of the town when the plague came through."
"If I may advise? You have checked the kitchen, and I would ask that you speak to my cook, Amora, so that she can come back to work without worry? I can point the way to her farm. Also, if it isn't too much to ask, if you wish to visit farmers and such, my father is old and can no longer walk. Would I be able to prevail upon you to push him in his chair tomorrow? He knows everything there is to know about the town's history, and can point you are the different farmers houses who were here?"
Esha
|
Esha cocks her head. "The apothecary was blamed? For the plague? Why?
You want us to bring your father to the farms? I think we are going today, yes? Not tomorrow?" She looks around at the others.
Laurel "Desna"
""'Spect yer elderz" Ma used ta always say" Indeed, Marin is sleeping in this day while Laurel is out running around - he turns to Delma "Course we'll watchim!" and bows deeply to convey proportional respect. Then he pounds his chest with one clenched fist "Makin' sure nuthin' ta happin ta 'im" and just in case Delma wasn't convinced - Laurel flexes his immense biceps!...
Montgomery Hall
"Thank you"Delma says. Still somewhat bemused by the way Laurel acts.
"Amora lives on a farm just west of the town, over the river. It used to be an old apple orchard, but no longer."
On the map it is the westernmost farm, just below the compass symbol. You can see two ways to get there, a long way with a bridge over the river, or a short way with what appears to be a ford.
Oosa Toadlicker
Oosa perked up a little. "Apples? Me like some apples. We go to farm now and talk with cook. Maybe she part with some apples." Oosa says. He straights his robes a little and starts towards the door.
Montgomery Hall
Esha could see from the map that the farm is just across the river, and the quickest (if not necessarily the best) route is to go straight west. Unfortunately, she comes out of the Feed Station and turns South, and rushes off, with Laurel close behind.
Calvus can see immediately that they have gone the wrong way....
Esha
|
Esha comes to a dead stop and turns around. "What?! OH! Coming! She comes charging back with a huge grin on her face, almost colliding with Laurel in the process. "Sorry, Laurel!" she calls without slowing. When she arrives at Calvus' side, she says, "Sorry, Calvus! You lead! I keep forgetting!"
Laurel "Desna"
Laurel is positive that Calvus is wronger than him and Esha, but turns around anyway when she does... (He has already forgotten Calvus's deeds earlier, and reverts to his baseline dynamic of interacting with such an adult!)...
"Are you SHUR iss not thet way!?" the boy expresses to the group.
Calvus Hellensis
"I am an agent of the God of Trave and Journeys," says Calvus. "If I say you're going the wrong way, then you're going the wrong way. Plus I read the map,"
Laurel "Desna"
Laurel claps back "Oh yeah? Wull I'll tellya we ben WERSHIPT the god of Wandering Stars me an me Ma we has e'er since I was but wee! An' Now lookit me?" again with the bicep showboating "But yer god sound like they good too ya know so okay it is!" as if the whole "Let's follow Calvus instead of Esha" thing was his idea!
Montgomery Hall
The trip to Amora's farm is quite simple. The path you take crosses the river at a small ford. The sun shines brightly, and there is a slight breeze.
A short while after you cross the river you come to an orchard, you can see the rough shack that must be Amora's home in the distance. The path winds between rows of sickly looking trees. It's obvious that they haven't born edible fruit in a few years. Their leaves are fallen, even at this point in summer. and their boughs droop. Their is a faint smell of rot.
There is a map, please place yourselves on it, and let me know your route through the orchard.
Calvus Hellensis
Calvus equips his shield and surveys the area.

"Esha!" he hisses, "The fuit is all bad. Something's wrong..."
Oosa Toadlicker
"No!!!, not da apples. Curses on those who ruin food." Oosa calls out. He will tentatively get on all fours and examine an apple on the ground and then any that may be on the tree.

Laurel's mouth is wide open, an apple millimeters from his mouth, when he notices everyone's eyes on him at once:
"Whu!?"
He bites firmly into the apple, and...
GM, what does it taste like?
Montgomery Hall
The "apple" for what it's worth is a dried up, shrivelled thing, these trees haven't produced fruit for years. It's like biting into a wad of parchment. But a sickly green substance, maybe juice, seeps slowly from within.
What is everyone doing? Apart from staring aghast at Laurel? Any explore actions, what direction are you travelling in? We aren't in initiative but I need to know roughly how you proceed without jumping too much.
Laurel "Desna"
"Phhteeewww!" Laurel spits out the apple!
Ever ready for danger, Laurel starts keeping his eyes and ears trained. Somebody poisoned these apples! He think in perfect Taldane. That means Bort is only the first living victim here, after these trees!
Scout
Oosa Toadlicker
Oosa starts digging into the dirt outside one of the apple trees. He's looking for anything odd that may be killing off the trees. Sludge in the soil, odd bugs, the likes.

Using the Defend activity and raising his shield
Montgomery Hall
Sorry for the delay folks.
Oosa doesn't find much in the soil, it doesn't feel clean but there's nothing there he could point to as wrong.
As far as Esha can tell, the whole orchard is suffering in the same way. There is sign of life though, near the center of the orchard she can hear the buzzing of bees.
Oosa Toadlicker
Oosa stands back up rubbing his dirty hands on the tree. "Soil bad, not good for trees. Something bad make it icky, not know what though," he says. He waits for a bit and then says, "Yous hear buzzy bees? Yous all want honey?"
Calvus Hellensis
1 person marked this as a favorite.
That sound beckoned! The buzzing was further into the orchard. It could be a path to danger but what was his responsibility? To lead the others away from said danger or help them confront it?
"Desna teaches us that often the only way is forward," said Calvus. "Let's go!"
Montgomery Hall
As you listen, it's easy to head straight towards the bees. The bussing gets louder as you grow closer, then all of sudden intensifies massivly. The bees swarm out of one of the trees, and head straight towards you.

Could you include the type of damage on your attack rolls. Turns out it's quite important. I'm assuming Esha's greataxe and Laurel's Starknife are both slashing?
Esha and LAurel run up to the bees and begin swiping at them, hitting some and reducing the size of the swarm. But not being as efefctive as they had hoped.
Calvus and Oosa up next.
