Grel Veldgott |
Grel will keep an eye out for evidence of the alchemist and the fire gives him that chance. He casts a spell attempting to reveal the hafling.
Cast Faerie Fire on that area.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Grell's Faerie Fire outlines the Alchemist.
Fire: 1d6 ⇒ 5
The Alchemist attempts to inject Ara with something.
Injection, touch: 1d20 + 10 - 1 ⇒ (15) + 10 - 1 = 24 Hit!
DC 19 Will save, or be affected by confusion
The front golem attempts to stand:
Acrobatics: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4 He stays tripped.
The other doulbe moves towards Ara/Ajax.
1. Ajax
3. Juniper
4. Grell
5. Petra
6. Kelvor
7/8. Halfling Alchemist/Clay Golems
Status:
Kelvor: 93/115, cursed wound
Damage Done:
Alchemist: 61
With the watcher's down, the whole party is up now
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Ara Will save with Devotion: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (5) + 9 = 14
Ajax's eyes get wide when he sees the golem approach. He steps back into the bushes Assuming wild stride lets me move as if its normal terrain And unloads on the Alchemist.
"You poison my companion and that is going to cost you your life."
Main attack with MS RS PBS IPS: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (11) + 15 = 26 Damage: 2d8 + 12 ⇒ (2, 6) + 12 = 20
If that kills it and it looks like the golems are goingt stand down, Ajax stops shooting. If Alcheimist isn't dead or Ajax needs to target golems...
Rapid Shot: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (9) + 15 = 24 Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Iterative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (8) + 10 = 18 Damage: 1d8 + 6 ⇒ (7) + 6 = 13
If Alchemist is dead, Ajax tries to orders Ara Down (Total Defense). If the golems keep attacking after dead Alchy....
"Iona, are you in command of these creatures?...if so, call them off, we just saved your life!"
Edit: Didn't see you rolled the outcome, I'll go with yours! :). If Alchemist is not dead, Ara will bite. GM can roll the attack.
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Assuming combat is not over.
Juniper shouts back to the bedroom, "Petra! If Grel and I step back toward the door, can you dimension door the four of us over to flank the alchemist?"
The paladin resumes her defensive posture and takes a step back toward Kelvor, then returns her potion to her pouch.
Standard Action: total defense.
5-foot step.
Move Action: stow potion.
If you can get Kelvor adjacent to the alchemist, and me between the golem and Kelvor, then Kelvor and everyone else adjacent to me will get a +4 luck bonus to AC, and Kelvor can smash the alchemist. Hopefully, if I'm the closest one to the golem, it will attack me.
Her defenses are unchanged from earlier:
AC 40, touch 24, flat-footed 29; CMD 28 (+2 vs bull rush, grapple, reposition, trip).

Let's see if the Alchemist is still alive ...and still so after Ara attacks.
Grel Veldgott |
Grel steps forward and eyes a space for Ajax and Ara to be aided. He begins casting a spell.
Full-round casting Summon Nature's Ally 2. Gonna drop some flank buddies.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |

"I've made a new doorway," shouts Kelvor to Grel, Petra and Juniper. "Quick! Out this way!"
Petra Orlovsky |
I might just wait to see the results of the latest chaos before I act....

Round 3
Ajax fires, and the Alchemist falls to the ground dead, but the Golems keep coming. His second two arrows strike the golem.
Iona pokes her head out from under the chair, "I already tried that! Whoever these impostors are had reprogrammed the golems! They won't stop!"
Ara attacks the golem:
Bite: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Trip: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Bite: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (7) + 9 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11
Trip: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (9) + 14 = 23
Both miss! Claws could not clear DR
Juniper continues defending.
Grell begins to summon.
1. Ajax
3. Juniper
4. Grell
5. Petra
6. Kelvor
7. Clay Golems
Status:
Kelvor: 93/115, cursed wound
Damage Done:
Red Golem: 17
Blue Golem: prone
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Ajax is crestfallen when he sees the golems continue. An escape plan was clearly needed, but getting away from the golems seemed problematic.
Ajax is equally disappointed at Iona's response, but at least it confirms the creatures were not under the control of the halflings and part of the estate's defense and that Iona was normally in control. Ajax calls back, "Keep trying! ....who else can control them!?"
IF Ara behaves normally, I ordered her to not attack (and go Total Defense) by default, raising her AC to 33. Also, I don't think she can trip on account of the size difference.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |

Kelvor shouts, "Let's go people!" and points at the hole he just smashed in the wall, creating an escape route.
Kelvor already went. See above.

Petra follows her winged friend on foot. Stopping she looks between Kelvor's Earthbreaker and the golem.
"Why don't we just smash these flower pots and get out of here."
Petra begins casting Enlarge Person on Kelvor
This will cost my standard action next round
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Round 3
Reflex: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 3 = 14 Sorry, I'm not seeing the DC for Emberkin's Grease on your sheet?
The other Golem attempts to stand again:
Acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 4
Still prone, it swings wildly at Juniper:
Slam: 1d20 + 19 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 19 - 4 = 31
1. Ajax
3. Juniper
4. Grell
5. Petra
6. Kelvor
7. Clay Golems
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Juniper grins at the dwarf to her right, "C'mon Grel! Let's circle around and reconnect with the group!"
I am still delaying until after Grel acts, because I am still providing him with +4 to AC. Once he goes, I will probably just withdraw so that I can get around closer to Ara.
Grel Veldgott |
Grel completes his casting and nods to Juniper, Let's head out while the golems are distracted.
Earth Elemental (small) summoned and attacking the near golem. Grel will move with Juniper to the egress.
earth elemental slam: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
damage: 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Juniper covers Grel's movement, then withdraws from the golem herself.
"Hi everyone!" she says excitedly, "The other golem is still trying to find his footing." The halfling giggles and winks at Petra.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
The other Golem moves out of the grease then attacks at Ara:
Acrobatics: 1d20 ⇒ 14
Slam: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (14) + 19 = 33
Damage: 2d10 + 7 ⇒ (3, 5) + 7 = 15
This provokes from Ara
Status:
Kelvor: 93/115, cursed wound
Ara: 48/67, cursed wound
Damage Done:
Red Golem: 17
Blue Golem: prone
That brings up the party again
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Was hoping Petra might get a retcon on her spell from last round, seeing as she would have seen the Grease spell fail, can she also cast Grease? This is probably the most effective spell we have against these creatures.
1. Another grease spell and a prone Red should make it relatively safe for her to escape.
2. Juniper drawing an AoO. Alternatively, Juniper could step forward and Ara could retreat behind her and use Juniper for cover and avoid any AoO.
3. Ajax could cast Protective Spirit and that might help her avoid AoOs.
If we are going to fight these things to the death, then Ajax should spend a round getting Gravity Bow.
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Free Action: At the start of her turn, Juniper gives Ara a +1 (untyped) bonus to AC from her guardian shield. It will be included in the total below.
"These are some awfully smart golems!"
The paladin resumes her defensive posture and pulls her blindfold down over her eyes.
Standard Action for total defense; Move Action to don her blindfold. This provokes an attack of opportunity.
She then shifts her position slightly, to better defend the cat. (5-foot step)
"Stay behind me, friends!"
Juniper's defenses are currently:
AC 39, touch 23, flat-footed 28; CMD 28 (+2 vs bull rush, grapple, reposition, trip). +2 to all of these vs AoO's
Ara gets a +4 luck bonus to AC, so together with the +1 untyped bonus, her AC is +5. Anyone (*cough* Kelvor *cough*) who also stands adjacent to Juniper likewise gets a +4 luck bonus to AC.
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Would any of those bonuses to AC have been present at the end of of Juniper's turn last round?
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Would any of those bonuses to AC have been present at the end of of Juniper's turn last round?
Unfortunately, no. The +1 from the shield MUST be granted at the start of my turn, and only to an adjacent figure. The +4 is the result of me using total defense, and lasts until the start of my next turn, but I had to withdraw the previous turn.
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Team talk:If we are going to fight these things to the death, then Ajax should spend a round getting Gravity Bow.
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Ajax/Ara will Delay for Emberkin to cast another Grease, if that's what it does.
Ajax pops his wand of Gravity Bow from his wrist sheath, enchants himself, and stows the wand.
He then orders Ara to withdraw,"Ara, get behind the halfling and then get out of there!"
Confusion: 1d100 ⇒ 92
Ara, still confused by whatever poison courses through her veins, simply attacks the golem in retaliation.
Bite: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (6) + 15 = 21 damage: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 <--Might hit if golem is prone when Ara attacks
Bite, iterative: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (16) + 10 = 26 damage: 1d4 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
Kelvor wishes he could stand next to the stalwart Juniper, but he wants to get back into the fight as soon as possible, so he races around the bushes and approaches the golem from behind.

Ajax casts Gravity bow.
Ara misses the golem, then hits once.
Grell's spell finishes and Earth Elemental appears.
Petra's Spell finished and Kelvor enlarges.

Kelvor watches, amazed, as his body grows and grows. Or is it that the others are shrinking? Regardless, he moves closer to Petra and swings his now very, VERY large earthbreaker at the golem!
Enlarged Earthbreaker PA: 1d20 + 23 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 23 - 1 + 2 = 43 IMPROVED CRIT THREAT!
Enlarged Earthbreaker PA: 1d20 + 23 - 1 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 23 - 1 + 2 = 28 Confirm?
Dmg, incl VS: 3d6 + 3d6 + 31 ⇒ (3, 5, 2) + (2, 5, 5) + 31 = 53
Dmg: 3d6 + 31 ⇒ (2, 2, 5) + 31 = 40
Dmg: 3d6 + 31 ⇒ (1, 6, 6) + 31 = 44
Now -2 to AC, but +4 due to standing next to the lucky Juniper.
Ajax Arrowhawk |
It'd dead, Jim.
Grel Veldgott |
Grel watches Kelvor pulverize the golem. Well if these are the only defenses, do we need anything else from the house? Do we free the head of servants that was tied up?
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Assuming Kelvor really did smush it.
When Kelvor whallops the golem into next Tuesday, Ajax shakes his head laughing, "You could have done that before I wasted a charge of my wand...."
Ajax then immediately orders everyone away from Ara and tried to command her to the far side of the courtyard.
When Ara has calmed down, Ajax makes sure to search the haflings for things of value and interest.
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Juniper lifts her blindfold and looks around, then immediately rushes over to tend to Ionnia. "Are you hurt, my lady?"
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
With a mighty blow, Kelvor shreds the golem!
You search the rest of the House, but the documents you've already retrieved seem to contain all the proof that you need, and Ionnia is very thankful for your saving her from the menace and the stolen golems.
You search the halfings finding:
3 doses of shadow essence poison, 3 each mwk longswords mwk bucklers, four +1 studded leather, 5 darts, one +2 dart, 1 dose of deathblade, 2 of giant wasp poison, 3 medium spider venom, 1 dose of nitharit
Inspecting Kelvor's wound you believe it would require a skilled magical healer to overcome DC 26 Caster Level check for magical healing, does not heal naturally- DC 26 caster level check as part of Remove Curse ends the effect
Ajax Arrowhawk |
Ajax gives Kevlor a slap on the back, "Wow. I would hate to see you when you are angry.""
Juniper Berrythwaite |
"Unfortunately, we need to hurry if we are going to save the Senate. We need to get back to the Lion Blades with this evidence of Prince Stavian's treachery." The small paladin puts a soot-covered hand into Kelvor's hand. "I am here, friend. I will try to do more to protect you. Do you think you can go on?"
We could get a scroll of remove curse, and Petra or I could cast it, but that has a CL of only 7, making it unlikely to succeed. If I remember correctly, spending Prestige on a remove curse auto-succeeds.
If we wait until the end of the scenario, Grel can prep a full load of cure ______ wounds spells, and fire them off until he succeeds.
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Also- on the halflings you found indication that they are members of the "Brotherhood of Silence"- a kind of thieves guild type organization which is implicated in the papers from the safe
You return to speak with Laurisa Tromaine at the Kitharodian Academy. Presenting her the papers she looks through them and then frowns, "This is very grave situation. Grand Prince Stavian has just arrived at the senate building for the Grand Day of Exaltation. There is likely to be some subterfuge involved. Here are some temporary senate aide badges which will get you into the building-- please, go there now and keep an eye on things while I rally some more forces."
Juniper Berrythwaite |
On the way to the Senate, I'm going to spend 2 PP to get a wand of grease
Juniper hands the small wand to Emberkin. "If I get grappled, will you please cast this onto my armor? She then pets its ears. "Cute bunny-dragon. IT'S SO FLUFFY!"

Before entering the Senate, Ajax will wand-up and cast Life Bubble on the party (18h). Ajax also offers his Swarmbane Clasp to Kevlor or Junipor if they intend on wearing it.
- Ask Petra to use Ajax's wand of Mage Armor on Ara 1h
- Shield companion on Ara 1h
- Longstrider on Ajax 1h
- Barkskin on Ajax 90m +4 to AC
-Use Pearl of Power to cast Barkskin on Ara (believe it stacks with natural armor)
- Heightened Awarenes 10m
Ara should have an AC of 36
Ajax should e 26 (25 while shooting his bow)
Grel Veldgott |
Grel takes stock of his reserves and gear as Ajax goes about preparations. Yes, I should also prepare if we are to face resistance.
Heightened Awareness CL 9, 90 min. Barkskin CL 9, 90 min. Greater Magic Fang, CL 8, 8 hours. Longstrider from wand, 1hr.

** spoiler omitted **
"My thanks, Ajax. I shall certainly wear it," responds Kelvor.
Kelvor of the Shundar-Quah |
If at all possible, Kelvor will seek out a Society spellcaster on the way, perhaps at the nearby lodge, and seek a Remove Curse. He's got boatloads of Prestige to spend.
Juniper Berrythwaite |
Before entering the senate, Juniper will refresh her mage armor and use her wand of shield.
Spell failure (25%) for mage armor: 1d100 ⇒ 68
Oxnard Kettlebeak |
Yes, Kelvor can find a society spellcaster while en route to the senate building.
