Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |
"Hwini! The Order of the Peacock is here already. Sounds like the siren came with them. They beat us here, but do they know that we are here too? Or that other murderous group? As if this task was not complicated enough...We will need to be extra cautious. Let us rest and recover here as best we can and set out in the morning.
Thank you for your hospitality, Kelhuud. I apologize that I did not bring a specific gift to our meeting. Is there anything that we can offer you in thanks?"
Roscoe Elring - Trickster |
Roscoe had not been thinking about resting, but when it's mentioned that two other groups here are competing with them, he is torn.
"Well, if we rest they get that much further ahead of us. If we keep going, we risk running into them with low resources. I'm good to keep going--but what say the rest of you?"
Frantino Kaddren |
Doc Hatfield does his thing.
It's been almost a month since Doc's last post. Should we assume that his "thing" included casting Lesser Restoration on Ezranadir? I don't know if he has a spare 2nd level spell remaining. Sorry, Ayita, I don't think we have anything that can help remove the curse! I just checked the loot list, no helpful scroll that "coincidentally" dropped in an earlier cache.
"Roscoe, after analyzing Kelhuud's map I think it's a longer trek than we'd be able to make in the remaining daylight today and we probably will have difficulty finding the entrance in the dark. I still have most of my spells but I'm not sure about Doc. If we stay in this safe place and leave at first light, we should be able to make it to the entrance by early afternoon tomorrow, assuming no other wildlife interruptions. I could perhaps go along with completing part of the trip today and then we'd have a shorter trek in the morning, but we don't know if we'll be able to find a safe place to bed down on the side of the mountain. Personally, I'd like to hear as much detail as we can from Kelhuud about this portal that he discovered and used, maybe we can brainstorm some ideas as to how we can disable it without needing to spend hours analyzing it once we find it. Who knows, maybe shutting it down will make him whole again."
Ezranadir |
Ezranadir speaks up, "I used most of my spells with the encounter with those Blightspawn and we only killed one of them. What if the remaining one decides to track us down while we are traveling at this weakened stage. I would not be any help to the group and Nasir would not have a magical bow with which to shoot it. I believe Doc also used quite a bit of his healing magic as well. I concur with Frantino."

Lesser Restoration, Constitution points: 1d4 ⇒ 2 Doc summons his power and infuses Ezranadir with it.
GM Derek |
Sounds like y'all are staying the night.
Any preparations for the adventure, once you wake up?
Frantino Kaddren |
Seeing how useful reach was against the mosquito(ish) creatures, Frantino will prepare two extracts of long arms today, then see what spirits reveal themselves to Roscoe for his séance.

THE NEXT DAY
The trek to the "Bloodstone Bunker" from Kelhuud's encampment begins across the river from the campsite. It is over ten miles away, but the group sets a good pace and arrives after four hours of hiking.
As you approach what you believe is going to be a large clearing on Hollow Mountain's northeastern slope, you smell the tang of a burning campfire. In the distance, you see a plume of smoke rising.
Ezranadir |
"Thanks for your ministrations, Doc!" Ezranadir sleeps through the night and prepares and memorizes his new spells the next morning.
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Perception: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
After hours of hiking, he smells the tang and sees the plume of smoke, he will assume that is the group Kelhuud said he spotted and cast Magic Armor on himself.
Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |
Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Perception: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Durning the trek, Nasir walks to each member of the group and whispers.
"We are being followed by something in the trees, my friend. I cannot see what it is, but they seem to want to keep their distance for now. Be ready."
As the group reaches the northeastern slope of the Hollow Mountain and smell the smoke. Nasir quickly draws his sword and shield.
"There is a fight ahead. If we are lucky, maybe our foes are fighting each other. Ready yourselves. Let's get closer and see if we can observe what's happening before engaging."
Frantino Kaddren |
Frantino auto-succeeds at both checks. Can he tell what is following us in the trees? Is it the remaining mosquito aberration?
"Do you all hear that? There's a fight up ahead by the smoky campfire!"
How long do we estimate it'll take to reach the clearing where the fight is? We must be close if we can smell a campfire.

Approximately five seconds.
In the clearing, a large stone structure stands against the woods, a narrow creek flowing languidly under its center. Streaks of red run through the stone, giving the building the appearance of being partially drenched in blood. Two domes adorn the ends of the complex, connected by a vine overgrown central structure. The building has no apparent points of entry, although the vines across a strangely dark pillar of stone on the building’s north face have been recently hacked away, leaving the dark stone exposed.
You can see several people sparring in the clearing, near a fire. They are screaming at each other and attacking each other with gleeful abandon.

Big bug! Big bug! says Ter to Ayita.
Ayita of the Hawk Clan |
Ayita passes that info along to her friends... especially those with good ranged abilities.
Nasir al-Rafik Kamal |
Nasir whispers. "Ayita, can you scout what's happening ahead? I will make too much noise. We'll be right behind you."
Frantino Kaddren |
Frantino will cast shield and then, feeling more confident in his new no-penalty armor and having put a minimum of training time into sneaking around as an investigator, he will move forward a short distance to try to gauge who these people are and how many are here. Knowing that he doesn't want to be seen, he'll spend a point of inspiration to boost his stealth check.
Stealth: 1d20 + 5 + 1d6 ⇒ (14) + 5 + (4) = 23
Perception campfire area: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
Can he determine who these people might be?
From his new position he'll spare a quick glance back up into the trees to see if he can spot what he suspects is the giant mosquito creature.
Perception trees: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (19) + 15 = 34
Using Pathfinder standard hand-and-arm signals, he'll look back at the group, point to his eyes, point at the other group, and hold up three fingers.
Frantino Kaddren |
Oops, looks like I was drafting my post while Nasir also posted. If Ayita looks like she's going to scout ahead Frantino will wait, knowing that she is much better at it.
Ayita of the Hawk Clan |
Just as Nasir asks Ayita to scout ahead, she trips and falls on her face. Again. Grimacing, she asks.. Ter, can you help?
Ter gives a quick nod... avoiding the tree bug, she flies to a higher spot to get a look and reports back...
Ter stealth: 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (2) + 15 = 17
Ter perception: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (7) + 19 = 26
Frantino Kaddren |
Frantino forgot about Ayita's curse. He'll move forward and observe, then alert the party that he sees three people by the campfire.
GM Derek |
"Are they sparring for fun, or is this a real battle?" Roscoe wonders as they approach the fighting.
They are definitely fighting. But it becomes clear that they are sparring. They resort to punching and blows with the pommels of their blades, instead of slashing and stabbing.

Frantino can see the thing flitting about the tree tops a little bit away. The thing is a hunter, for sure. It appears to be stealthily waiting.
GM Derek |
Ezranadir whispers, "How many are there and where is this Big Bug located? Are they the Peacock followers? Perhaps I can catch them all in a Fireball."
The three are, you believe, not Peacock followers, if only because they are rather barbaric in their dress and behavior. Spit flies as they bash each other, their clothes are covered in dirt and blood, and none wear the distinctive coloring of the Peacock Spirit.

Did Ter identify where the bug creature was located? I did not see it on the map. If he can see it and it is within 30' of the men then he targets it as well with Slow.
Hearing the feral cry of "FRESH MEAT!", Ezranadir rushes forward and casts SLOW on the three men.
(DC:18 Will Save to negate. Lasts 5 rounds. An affected creature moves and attacks at a drastically slowed rate. Creatures affected by this spell are staggered and can take only a single move action or standard action each turn, but not both (nor may it take full-round actions). Additionally, it takes a –1 penalty on attack rolls, AC, and Reflex saves. A slowed creature moves at half its normal speed (round down to the next 5-foot increment), which affects the creature's jumping distance as normal for decreased speed.)

Frantino sees it. Ter, focusing on scouting ahead to aid Ayita, does not see it. From what Frantino says, it is too far away to include in the Slow.
