Matias Longren |
Matias gets a big whiff of the room; he's smelled worse in his years under the mountain. He inspects the weapon racks with a critical eye. "Anything worth picking up?" he asks Seamus.
Fort Save: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 +2 if it is Poison/Spell/SLA
Azaersi - Azi |
Azi nods to Seamus and tests the other door in a similar fashion.
"Good point!"
Hearing Shane yak, he smirks, "He's turning greener than me."
GM PDXCook |
No magic is detected in this room but Azi spots the tip of a blade sticking out of pile of rubbish. He picks up the blade and discovers that is silver dagger of masterwork quality.
Anyone else won't to take a closer look around the room.
Seamus Passeri |
Garren did you 'take 10' on your perception check on the door at F-7?
After checking the room for magic, Seamus moves over beside Matias where the dwarf is inspecting the weapons racks. He asks nonchalantly, "did you find anything worth keeping?" As he looks at the weapons racks himself. Then turning and looking at the room. As he looks across the room he asks, "Can we investigate what's behind the door to the north-east before we go up the stairs? I don't like the idea of letting someone or something sneak up on us from behind."
taking 10(13) on perception checks, for the weapons rack and the room in general
GM PDXCook |
You see (perception) everything in the room. To examine things you will need different types of checks. I am in a quandary as to whether to tell you what checks to make or let you role play checks to see what you find.
Recap
Racks for weapons line the walls of this chamber, above the racks hang various shields, pieces of armor, weapons, and standards on display. Most of the racks are empty but a few weapons remain in place.

what type of weapons appear still usable and what knowledge check do you want to identify the standards? I'm more interested in the weapons, but the standards are probably worth more.
Azaersi - Azi |
With all the weapons available, Azi takes a look around. He checks on any great axes that are in better condition than his own. He also considers the standards and thinks back to his lessons at Lastwall.

apparently, Azi is not very studious

Seamus Passeri |
Seeing Azi reach for one of the axes, Seamus smiles, "What you need Azi is a shield, you could use it when you fight with the hammer and it would help protect you more than that leather armor."
Seamus looks up at the shields above the rack, trying to determine which may be best. He then reaches with his long spear trying to pry it off the wall.
Asking the group in general, "Do you all think we should try and take this stuff with us to sell later? Or will Sarge be mad we took the time to raid the building instead of finding out what is causing all the problems?"
rolls are trying to figure out which shield may be best, GM PDXCook do you need any skill check to get the shield off of the wall?

Matias Longren |
Matias gives a quick look over the weapons and shields before positioning himself by the door, spear at the ready.
Profession (Soldier): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (7) + 8 = 15
Before they move through to the next room, Matias casts guidance on Azi and Garren.
GM PDXCook |
Seamus pulls a light steel shield off of the wall. It seems in better shape than any of the other equipment that is in the room.
MW light steel shield
Seamus Passeri |
Flipping the shield over, Seamus hands it to Azi, "Here Azi, now when you use the hammer you can protect yourself a little more."
Smiling at Shane, "Yeah, something awful isn't, guess it's good we didn't stay out late drinking last night."
Seeing Garren at the door, Seamus moves that way and asks, "Are we ready to open the north-eastern door?"
Garren are you opening the door or do you want Azi to? Please move Seamus to E-7 he will follow whomever in.
GM PDXCook |
Neither door is trapped so please decide, as a group, what door you are going to go though and where everyone is room before the door is opened. Please let me know who took the shield and who took the banner. I will post the next room once everyone chimes in.
Azaersi - Azi |
Sorry for the absence. Life got busy.
Azi finds a greataxe on the wall and sets his own down to pick the other up. He tests its balance and attempts a few practice swings. He takes note of how the handle fits his hands, the sturdiness of the neck, and the sharpness of the blade.
Appraise, Craft ?: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (7) + 0 = 7
Profession Soldier: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10
After a few swings, he considers the axe but also considers the standards. Looking at his companions, he gestures towards them, ”These look familiar. I think they might have something to do with Vigil. They look familiar to you?”
Azi then sets down the axe and takes the shield offered by Seamus. Taking out his hammer, the barbarian practices a few shield and weapon techniques he remembers from this Lastwall training. Looking at his friend Seamus, the half-orc nods, ”This would be good and offer better protection. Thank you.” He then takes his preferred axe and attaches it to his back while keeping the shield and hammer in opposing hands. ”Could anybody use this shiny dagger? Looks really nice to me.” Azi offers the dagger to anyone who wants it.
Azi will move to G-10 and be ready when Garren opens the door. If no one else takes the banner, Azi will feel it is important enough to roll up and stow away on his person. I think this catches me up.
Matias Longren |
Matias location is fine. He is doing exactly as posted earlier again: He'll recast Guidance on Azi and Garren before they open the door.
GM PDXCook |
Moving on
Matias cast his spell on Azi and Garren.
Garren opens the door. You see a spiral staircase that seem to go around a central column. Debris lies on the steps but the way up has been cleared. The way down has been filled in with rubble.
No noises can be heard from above and you cannot see any doors or landing from your point of view.
Azaersi - Azi |
Azi peers up the staircase as he peeks into the stairwell. He turns back, "I agree with Seamus. Let's close this door and open the other. Clear this level before we move on." Azi, with shield and hammer in hand, moves to the other door and waits for his companions approval.
Will move to F-7 with the intention of opening the door when / if everyone is ready and agrees.
GM PDXCook |
Azi slowly pushes the door open with his shield. Light from Seamus's spear illuminates the room.
Judging from the shelves lining the walls, this darkened room might once have been a storeroom, though its contents have long since succumbed to the passage of time. A crack in the northern wall has apparently let in some rainwater, which has collected in a large puddle on the floor.
You can see light coming though gaps round the frame of the door across from you.
A shape in the puddle begins to rise and look at you.
GM PDXCook |
Roll for Initiative please
Azi: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17

Matias Longren |
"Ah, curses. Keep yer guard up!"
Initiative: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
GM PDXCook |
Initiative Order
Group 1 Seamus Garren
Group 2 Shocker Lizard
Group 3 Azi Shane Matias
Group 1 can now act
Seamus Passeri |
"Or we can open the other door and let it out." Shrugging to Azi, Seamus reaches up and pulls the door shut. He looks at the others, "If I remember the landing had a door in the north west corner. We should be able to open that door as we leave." He gestures back to the doorway to the steps. "Let's head upstairs and find where the lizard was trying to go." Seamus then moves towards the other door.
Moving to F-9
Sorry if anyone really wanted to fight the lizard. Since no one really had an opinion, I though we should save our energy for whatever is above.
