Weakened by the Doctor's dart, the crest-eater readily succumbs when Elisan fires on it.
With the crest-eaters fallen, the party is free to fashion parts of the creature's shell into bone cestuses and also free to set up the scanning tower.
The scanning tower is 30-foot-tall structure of titanium alloy rods that must be assembled on the spot. Documentation, which includes the instructions to assemble and anchor a tower, as well as to calibrate its instruments once it’s intact, accompany the part.
I need an Engineering check from the party. PCs can use the aid another action to assist a primary character. The instructions allow a PC to attempt the skill checks to prepare the tower and instruments untrained, though doing so requires repeatedly referencing these instructions and takes twice as long as a check by a character trained in the skill.
A tower’s parts are 20 bulk in total, and an assembled tower occupies a 15-foot square. Each tower has a small platform at the top, which can support only one Medium or smaller creature.
Now, the scanner and computer must be installed at this platform.
Twenty feet above the ground is a secondary platform that can support two Medium or smaller creatures. A ladder (Athletics DC 5 to climb) ascends the tower’s length. Only a creature perched atop the tower’s upper platform can calibrate the instruments, which involves 15 minutes of work, communicating with Mora by comm unit, and succeeding at a DC 17 Computers check. To aid in the Computers check, a creature must also be perched atop the platform. Again, the instructions allow a PC to attempt the skill checks to prepare the tower and instruments untrained, though doing so requires repeatedly referencing these instructions and takes twice as long as a check by a character trained in the skill.

I couldn't find any special rules on crafting Bone Cestus on the Alien Archive entry of the crest-eater, so I guess it would be like crafting a regular weapon, likely with a 10% discount. Gava can't engineer, so he's out of either tasks.

Elisan crouches by the fallen beast, head bowed, a hand extended to rest on a forelimb, while he murmurs a Kasathan prayer of thanks. "Your story does not end here, but will be carried forth by each of us within this chapter of our own tales. I thank you for your bounty."
Standing, the kasatha makes his way over to examine the tower equipment. "All aboard the Idari are expected to be competent crewhands in the case of emergency. While not my primary area of training, I have some small engineering experience."

Valorus' computer check is insufficient. Please identify other efforts as an aid or individual attempt. I will adjudicate once there has been a success or all PCs have attempted. Note, these checks may be attempted untrained as per instructions under Engineering spoiler above.

GM Valen |

Treating Valorus as primary for buggy and applying Dr. Rosilia-14's aid to Maximus' attempt.
The buggy and its occupants make good time and the enercycle, with the fine piloting of the dragonkin and some assistance from android as to what planet the party is on, manages to keep up. The trip to the windy cliffs takes a mere two hours.
You all arrive at a high cliff that curves along one edge of the plateau. Here, the wind is noticeably quite strong. The ground here is a strange field of uniform shallow depressions, each about 10 feet long, 5 feet wide, and about 1-1/2 feet deep.
At scattered intervals throughout this strange geological feature, the shallow depressions are replaced with long, low, mounds equal in size to the depressions, but rising about 1-1/2 feet above the ground.
It also appears to you the troughs or depressions that dot the area look geologically unstable and that, if subjected to even a slight disturbance, they could close off.
With a successful Life Science or Survival check (DC 18), you may open the spoiler below:
Once snapped shut, the depression would closely resemble one of the nearby mounds.
You believe that you could safely trigger one of the depressions to snap shut to test this theory if you so wished.
No map for this area, just theater of the mind.
Setting up the tower requires the same process as before, but with some wrinkles:
First, I need an Engineering check (DC 17)from the party to construct the tower.
Second, I need one Medium or smaller creatures to ascend to the tower's top platform with an Athletics check (DC 12) to climb due to the wind and calibrate the instruments with a Computers check (DC 17). However, the lightweight tower was built to withstand only rough weather or a technician at the top, not both. A Medium PC atop the higher platform needs two other PCs on the lower platform to help brace the structure until the work’s done. A Small PC needs only one other PC to brace the structure. A PC perched at the top platform must succeed at an Acrobatics check (DC 10) to avoid falling partway through the calibration process.
PCs can use the aid another action to assist a primary character. Due to the need to combat the wind, a PC may aid the Engineering check with a successful Athletics check (DC 10) or may attempt an Engineering check to aid another untrained by using the instructions.
The instructions also allow a PC to attempt an Engineering or Computers skill checks to prepare the tower and instruments untrained, though doing so requires repeatedly referencing these instructions and takes twice as long as a check by a character trained in the skill.

With Elisan and V'lors bracing the ladder in the high winds, Dr. Rosilia-14 manages to make it to the top of the tower. However, the high winds threaten to send the tower, along with the android, toppling to the ground. The lightweight tower was built to withstand only rough weather or a technician at the top, not both. Maximus climbs to the lower platform to help brace the structure, but more support is needed.
As a Medium PC atop the higher platform, Dr. Rosilia-14 needs a second PC to climb to the lower platform with Maximus to help brace the structure until the doctor's work is done. The PC must make a successful Athletics check (DC 12) or fall from the tower. Then, from her perch at the top platform, Dr. Rosilia-14 must succeed at a DC 10 Acrobatics check to avoid falling during the calibration process.

With allies properly bracing the tower, the android it to the top.
It may not be clear due to the asynchronous nature of PbP (which meant the aids were posted after the initial Acrobatics check), but Dr. Rosilia-14 had already succeeded in making it to the top of the tower with her prior check.[ooc]
[ooc]The second Acrobatics check was to stay up there.
This is going well.
It did not go well.
Perched atop the top platform, Dr. Rosilia-14 begins the calibration process. Partway through the process, a huge gust of wind strikes the tower. The android is unable to remain atop and falls from the tower. So powerful is the wind that it pushes the her falling form into one of the open fissures, which does not remain open.
