Due to a sequence of events involving me not having a correct grip on stat boosts during character creation and also missing that each class came with a boost, I had to rework every single character I've ever made.
Uncle has been updated in-sheet to correctly have +2 INT over what was originally in there, added Arcana to his trained skills, Jotun as a language, and all INT-based modifiers updated.

I've just found out about Bandolier the item, can I have purchased one before we left Absalom?

Assassin's Creed IV:Black Flag is the best.
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
We totally understand. I hope you're doing alright!
Lovely to have you back Gabros. Meet my uncle, Nazgub
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
Awesome to see Hammick and Gabros back, and can I just say thanks everyone for engaging in Inzo's little dilemma. Hope it's been entertaining while we wait to get going with this quest.
Progress has been hampered quite a lot I think by COVID and waiting for a quest only to find out its not the tier we wanted.
Looking forward to playing a game properly!

Love this group!

Hot dice!
Better keep this up when it matters...
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
Norden is actually quite a good looking fellow! I somehow have not seen his VC art.
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
You all do have some very nice synergy, indeed.
I've had the pleasure of playing in person with:
Bert: 16 yearsOrla: 6 years on and off
Nazgub: 3.5 years
I think it comes with the comfort.
Hammick and Gabros, may our history grow to similar lengths!

Artisan's Tools (Blacksmith) purchased, 5 torches offered to party / discarded to help with Bulk, sheet updated.
Orla Pfeffenpfoffer |
I'm just waiting for combat to break out so I can roll all natural 1s. I'm killing it in the non-combat stuff.
Uncle Nazgub |
I'm not actually sure whether the Climb I took as an action is part of the Grab an Edge reaction and I had another action left but whatever, let's keep moving.
Uncle Nazgub |
I'm fine with anything, although I have a degree of ichthyophobia so minimal toothy fish descriptions (sharks weirdly are fine) would be preferred.
When I went to reduce my HP I realised I had the wrong total on my statline, updated to the (correct) 14 that's been on my sheet all along.
Orla Pfeffenpfoffer |
The dice giveth; the dice taketh away, am I right, Gabros?
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
Oof, looking dangerous now!
Do any of the downed characters have slashing weapons visible, that Inzo might use? I threw my dagger, but turns out that's the one I wanted for cutting these centipedes.
We'll get both of you out, I hope.
Orla Pfeffenpfoffer |
GM, did my water spray do anything to move (i.e. bullrush) the centipedes?

Bert has a battle-axe and a hatchet if you need something to slash with.
Nice! You mentioning the hatchet reminds me that I purchased a hatchet to keep up with the lumberjack theme. I'll be slashing away with that on my next turn.
What are our heal reserves like on Nazgub and Orla?
Uncle Nazgub |
1 Soothe remaining, but given where I'm standing right now and the monster getting an action before my next there's a chance I might not be up to cast it.
(Edit) Ah, map update, I'm not as badly off as I thought.
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
I love that the downed characters are greyed out Deneve!
Oof, these centipedes are pretty nasty!
EDIT: We'll have two good slashing turns from Bert/Hammick hopefully. Put them down!
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
This run through has confirmed for me that Sandstone Secret is the deadliest quest thus far!
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
It was cruisey when I played it when it first came out...
Which encounters did you do?
GM Deneve |
I think it's a good idea that we're doing an analysis.
Please bear in mind that I'm not criticizing you or saying you played incorrectly, but how I viewed things from behind the GM Screen.
There are three encounters here, A, B and C. I avoided A as that one is the most popular and the "go-to". Encounter B was very similar to the one we did in Archaeology in Aspenthar, so I went with C, which is actually a Moderate encounter in terms of healing resources that would be consumed for 4 Level 1s but is considered Trivial for 6 Level 1s.
So why what happened?
Unlucky rolls
The scenario gives you the chance to get a really good weapon against the swarm in the embalming room if anyone had been able to identify the chalky residue. You don't need a Crafting check to make the weapon out of the residue and even if you were to obtain failures on the three uses it has, it does a whooping 16 hp of damage against the swarm! It also didn't help that poor Orla failed her Moonbeam attack at the start of combat.
Low damage output
Parting the screen a bit, I can tell you that the swarm had 30hp total. You were about to kill it, then the party split up. Although it was to the next room over, it's still minimum 1 action to three actions lost. Not that I blame you or think it was a bad idea to nab Kline, I thought it was pretty awesome, but spreading out was more difficult if you take into account Gabros is not a tank and his Precision damage is moot against a swarm, meaning most if not all the heavy hitting was left to Bert. To further aggravate the situation, your poor buffer was tossed unkindly to the pit twice! That further made him lose actions in order to help out plus forcing him to heal up or die with one hit when he came up against the enemy.
Weapon choice
Best weapon choice was Gabros' alchemist's fire. Even though he missed, he did 6 hp of damage ignoring any resistances!
I encouraged Recall Knowledge by suggesting it as an action as once I saw the resistances knew you'd better be informed of it. Unfortunately, the resistances played against you as by the time you went for the slashing weapons, the swarm was already doing its worst.
Movement
I'd need to check, but I believe Gabros and Bert elected to stay in the swarm rather than take a step back and force the swarm to use one of its actions to move to another character while at the same time forcing it to perhaps change target. I don't think it's metagaming to do such a thing, as when I landed on an ants nest many years ago my first action was to get the heck out of there. The problem with staying in is you get attacked thrice and since there's no Multiple Attack Penalty as they're Basic Saving throws and high ones at that, puts the odds against you.
Orla, Hammick and Inzo were spread enough that the swarm would have to only choose one, but not envelope more than 1 PC. Although as I was playing them as mindless, they would have probably chased after Bert and Gabros and not the others as they were doing the least amount of damage compared to both of them. If the others had done a good chunk of damage to them, they would have gone after that person.
Alternative way of ending it
I thought there were some really sweet actions by the party all around. Orla forcing Kline to drop prone was genius and having Hammick knock the poor sod senseless was even better. Hammick getting a good roll on the recall knowledge and the way he relayed the information reminded me a lot of a general giving orders to his soldiers before speeding off to another part of the frontline. Gabros using the alchemist fire reminded me of a PF1 alchemist and I really thought that was the best weapon choice so far. Having Orla wash away the bugs was a good idea as well, although in hindsight I probably should have just had her push them back five feet as the spell doesn't necessarily say that the water comes out with pressure. The part where Orla suggests closing the trapdoor was not one I was expecting, but it did have interesting results. And of course, the role play from Bert and Nazgub has always been precious.

YUSSSS. Level 2! My first level 2 PF2 character!!!
Uncle Nazgub |
My decision to body-block Kline as the first move of the combat led to me being ineffective for most of the rest of it, I made no attacks and rolled poorly on the 2nd Soothe (although it was largely over by the time that happened).
I only had 1 round of Inspire on the party, I think if I had had more then we would have overcome the DR more effectively.
I was surprised that a 14 was enough to climb out of the pit and I'm glad it was otherwise closing the trapdoor would not have been an option.
I did much better generally on the social aspects.
Thanks for GMing :-)
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
Deneve you're right on the effectiveness of the party. I find it hard when I've played/GM'd the scenario before, because Inzo wouldn't naturally buy alch fire. Maybe I could have said that he's a pyro so he buys them.
I knew that 2 of the 3 encounters would mean that Inzo being low str shuriken tosser is going to be not that effective. Did make it a bit touch and go, but nothing like a hairscraper to get Orla to lv2.
This will put Inzo square on XP so I'm ready for a scenario. I will also have played Inzo in person before we do our next one so I'll be a bit beefier!
Thanks as always Deneve.

Ugh, I fat-fingered my Paizo ID in my template I copy my characters from and I've spread the wrong one in all sorts of places. Thought I'd stomped it out, but apparently not.

Personally, I'm keen to play more. I really like the group, so if the team want to continue, I'm down.
As for 1-4's which are available for play, unless Bert and Nazgub have played a game I'm not aware of, scenarios we can all play are:
Tier 1-4
1-00
1-10
1-15
Some more options:
1-14 (Nazgub played on another character)
1-06 (Nazgub played on another character)
We've been in a real growth stage in our local PFS lodge, and as a result a lot of the 1-4's have been snapped up. We're also currently playing at 4x the rate scenarios are coming out because of isolation.
Hope that helps!

I haven't played 1-06
But yeah, my Fighter is about to hit L5 so I've run through quite a large number of the adventures.
Inzo, Frostfur Exile |
1-06 is an option then as well. I have updated my lodge played records.
Cheers Nazgub

I'm very keen to test out a scenario. I've played 1-01 (with this group), 1-02 (Mosquito), 1-06 (Spirit Road - with this group), and I'm currently playing 1-14 (Lions). Otherwise, YES, let's GAME ON!
