Roan Corran |
Roan looses another fiery bolt at the plant.
Ranged Touch: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 + 2 = 10point blank, precise, inspired
Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
The bolt fizzles into the ground near the creature.
GM Ilmakis |
@Anwar No holy Damage, Khellec has tell you that the creature is neutral.
@August with who are you flanking? You can't make a line between you and an ally that cross the middle of the creature, and the cat was grappling so can't give you any help.
You have another turn.
August attacks don't seems to be efficient against the creature DR as nobody is able to let him place his most destructive attacks no sneak and continues to bleed a little Bleed Damages: 1d6 ⇒ 5
Zephir heal himself after bleeding again Bleed Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 2 while Khellec continues to inspire his comrades while stopping August's bleeding.
Before Anwar and his act, a Pathfinder come and heroically heals the Pathfinders ! Stopping the cat bleeding and healing him so he can continue to attack.
Unfortunately in his precarious position, the cat is able to land only one attack but it connect well and the creature is grappled again !
Roan miss the creature, and almost hit Shimmer!

Being grappled prevents you from making oportunity attacks, it does not prevent you from providing a flank. To provide a flank all you need to do is threaten which only requires that you are capable of making an attack into a particular square.
Anwar moves around the creature and calls down a pillar of flames on the horrid plant thing.
Moving to make sure there is no issue with flank or not and Casting flame strike, DC22 reflex save, it is at -2 as it is grappling. It deals 9d6 ⇒ (6, 1, 6, 1, 1, 6, 6, 4, 3) = 34 fire and holy damage
GM Ilmakis |
You don't threaten while grappled

August Dupine |
I have some questions in discussion, but I see Anwar has moved to a good position which at least answers the question of "do I now flank". If the DR is something I can recognize, I will forgoe the flurry this round to instead draw an appropriate weapon (nunchaku if adamantine is required or kama if I know silver or slashing will be more effective). Both I can use in a flurry, but I think I need a move action to draw them, so I would use that plus power attack instead.
Attack, power attack, heroism, inspired, haste, flank: 1d20 + 11 - 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 11 - 2 + 2 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 25

As August had time to see that none of the Shimmer's attack have been stopped by the thick vines of the creature he realized that he needs a slashing weapon claw are S/B.
One strike and the plant is no more.
The group has vanquished his first ennemy.

GM Ilmakis |
As you recover from the battle and advance a little further, signs of a pitched battle are obvious in this small clearing. The twisted, corrupt vegetation has been burned, and the smell of a recent fire floats through the air. Immediately to the north, an outcropping of rock rises a dozen feet over the carnage.
A half-dozen orcs mill about the clearing, finishing off the last of the creatures they recently felled
Except for Khellec and Zephyr, you are able to see on several orcs, symbols of Sarenrae.
One of the orc spots you and the leader of the band, moves toward you, weapon in hand and ready to use it but not outwardly hostile.
Greetings, strangers, I'm Grenir, leader of the Burning Sun Tribe. What are you doing in this cursed place.
August Dupine |
Have not played that one.
Sarenrae, eh? Fair enough. We are Pathfinders, here to stop a growing evil before it can expand its power and reach. Clearly, the effects in this place do not bode well for the rest of the world if we fail. Will you allow us to pass without trouble?"
Thinking for a minute, he then adds "Or would you like to join us?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (19) + 14 = 33
GM Ilmakis |
Grenir nodes to August and says You seems good with word, but words only will not save you from what awaits...
Are you really prepared? Have you the will and knowledge to face the Tyrant's allies ?
You can use, Know. religion, Bluff or Survival to convince them of your ability to face the dangers of this place.
Anwar Ibn Jad |
Anwar will apply a number of charges from his cure wand before they move on.
CLW: 4d8 + 4 ⇒ (3, 2, 8, 7) + 4 = 24
He looks over the orcs with a degree of suspicion.
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 21 ⇒ (1) + 21 = 22
Yes, we are here to stop the undead, what are you doing here?
Auto aid August's diplomacy
While this place is dangerous but we are used to travelling in dangerous places
Survival: 1d20 + 22 ⇒ (5) + 22 = 27
GM Ilmakis |
Anwar see no malice in the orc's words.
Grenir looks at Anwar and says Yes, you seems to be able to recognize the dangers of your surrondings. But when Death will call your name, what will you do?
Will you flee? Will you turn? We can't afford more minions for the Tyrant.
You can use, Know. religion, Bluff to achieve to convince Grenir of your ability to face the dangers of this place.
For now, the orc chieftain don't seem ready to answer your questions.
Varian Jeggare |
"That is an interesting hypothetical question. I will counter by pointing out that we are well-versed in necromantic lore, and consequently have a good chance of succeeding at our chosen task."
Knowledge(Religion): 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (14) + 19 = 33.
Zephyr the White |
Zephyr spreads his hands. "Sarenrae is but one of many with a stake in this matter. If we were too weak, she would have turned us away, and we would be helping evacuees instead."
Religion: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
Unfortunately, the half-elf can't keep a bit of sarcasm from leaking into his voice.
GM Ilmakis |
Grenir relaxes and don't seems to take Zephyr's spur personally. Well, you are capable. Please, follow me.
Grenir encourages you to follow her under the rock outcropping to take shelter from the mortuary tempest. There, Grenir explains what she's doing here with her warriors.
I am called Grenir Flamespite. I am a servant of the Dawnflower. The leader of my tribe, Mahja Firehair, sent me and my warriors to investigate disturbing visions she had about this place. She ordered that me and my warriors get as close to Gallowspire as possible and determine the nature of the sudden change in the area. We have learned a bit about the threats in the Catacombs, that lie beyond us, but we are badly outmatched and we were planning to return to their own lands and inform our leader of what we witnessed before your arrival.
If you have questions, I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge.
Roan Corran |
"Dawnflower, such a pretty name for such a being. I do ponder why, she does not raise the sun nor is she particularly like a flower." He doesn't seem to be particularly addressing this to anyone, but instead musing to himself.
August Dupine |
"What have you witnessed. I am afraid our own scouts could only give us the basic knowledge that we face many undead and that perhaps some sort of ritual may be going on? We want to stop it, but if you have any information that can help, it will only improve our chances. Plus, you can then report back that you helped a small army to do what you knew needed to be done."
"And, do you have a way into the catacombs that they might not be expecting us to use?"
Khellek the historian |
"Perhaps" adds the scholar, trying to get a word in edgewise. "You could tell us about what you have witnessed... in some detail. It might serve to help forewarn us of challenges to come."
GM Ilmakis |
My scouts and I have discovered that there is an easier path down the crater on the southwest side. I lost one of my scouts finding that path. Now that you’re here, I can see that his sacrifice will light the way for many others. says Grenir giving you the indication to how to get to the crater and to follow the path
she continue I wish we had gotten farther, but we were attacked by shapeless monstrosities and several constructs almost as soon as we got to the bottom. I don't know much more than that as we lack the knowledge to recognize these things.
After letting the Pathfinders taking knowledge of what they know she adds We have learned that there is much happening in the dungeons. Some great evil stirs. It is... building up to something. I don’t know what. My group was unable to get very far, and I’ve already lost half my force. We will return to our lands to tell Mahja what we know. But first, let us help you reach the crater.
You've earned 1 success by getting the info and the help from the Burning Sun Tribe orcs!
You can try to earn another success by fighting other creatures in Gallowgarden
Khellek the historian |
"Let us continue onward then." sighs Khellek.
"I suppose we should have expected constructs. More unliving things. At least they can't be turned into an undead. "
Zephyr the White |
"You have done admirably, and there is no shame in retreat."
I'm game for another fight if others are.
Edit: Seconded for A2.
August Dupine |
August looks around, heading in the general direction of the crater, wary for other plants to attack him suddenly.
Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27
Perception: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (14) + 16 = 30 +2 for traps
Anwar Ibn Jad |
Let us press on, we need to forge a trail to the crater for the others.
Khellek the historian |
"That ancient altar looks interesting. Let us see what we can learn from it." suggests the scholar.
A2?
GM Ilmakis |
As you move toward a small clearing you see some exposed stone remnants.
Some creature has been actively scrapping away the fungal covering in this area, exposing ancient stonework below...
Also, visible through the foliage of torn and blackened trees, two strange creatures stands, clearly hungry!

@Anwar Freedom of movement don't hallow ignoring difficult terrain.
If you want to do something else, feel free.
Anwar Ibn Jad |
Yes, it really does. However, I am tired of fighting with you over everything that happens in this game. I will instead cast air walk on Shimmer so she can ignore the difficult terain and charge and after this encounter I shall withdraw from this game as it seems like we are never going to agree about anything and I dislike constantly arguing about things
GM Ilmakis |
As you wish. I don't think arguing on 2 rules is that tiring, and both side have pros and cons.
I'm sorry that you feel that way.
I can also withdraw from this game and let you run it as it please you.
Shimmer almost shred into pieces the first plant creature and have it firmly in its paw.

The creature is cooked! 36 points of fire damages But still stands.
Zephyr the White |
Yeah, that. I added the bonus to attack, never remember if it goes to spell damage as well.
Roan Corran |
It doesn't, only weapon damage.
August Dupine |
Oops - I got caught up on the out-of-game discussion, I forgot to go!
August moves past Anwar (along the edge of the map) and closes in on one of the plants, the one with the blue flowers. (I wasn't sure which squares are difficult, but August has 50' move, so he is able to move the 25' even if all of them are.)
He tries his best to avoid leaving himself exposed.
