As you suspected, the cultist leads you to the foundry; he opens the front entry doors and you follow him inside...

Quiella, if you brought your mount, the cultist will insist you leave it outside. The Wise & Beautiful Mvumbu is in miniature form, so she's good...as long as Tiny is a black robe, he's good as well...

This large open-plan building has stone walls and a high ceiling supported by curving wooden rafters. The floor is covered in fine gray sand. A foreman's office along the south wall has a commanding view of rows of molds, stacks of coal, wood, and metal; the enormous gears that link the waterwheel outside to the bellows. The room is dominated by a titanic furnace, a wall of stone with a huge triangular notch that takes up the entire east wall. At the center of the triangle is a massive black door leading into the furnace body. From under the door, a trench dug into the floor lets excess molten metal flow out.

Knowledge (Engineering) DC15:
You recognize that, despite this chamber's large size, it only occupies approximately half the space that the building's exterior should hold; there is more to the foundry than meets the eye.

You see a dozen cultists in black robes standing in a circle in front of the furnace trough. The cultist that led you from the standing stone is apparently waiting for a signal before proceeding forward.

Another post will follow a bit later...just wanted to give you a chance to make the spoiler check and any other subtle checks you might think prudent before I post...

The Black Circle on the map represents the circle of cultists...

Quiella, if you want to bring your mount you can use one of Kiboko's scroll castings of Carry Companion - it's a paladin spell too, and the scroll is CL3. If our friendly GM is happy that you do that before approaching the meeting place anyway ;)

Inside the furnace, no doubt. A cunning hiding place.

Kiboko studies the room and the cultists as they wait.

The cloaked guide nods to Fendel. "Yes...all is not at as it seems, my friend...as you will find out shortly..."

Quiella, there was plenty of time to take advantage of Kiboko's scroll if you wish to carry your mount/companion...

Kiboko and Teric notice the cultists clearly appear to be fervent in their duties; Teric senses blind devotion. It's also clear to Teric that the new initiates are excited, and maybe a bit nervous...

Your guide gets the signal he's awaited and brings you into the circle of cultists before leaving you and joining the circle himself...

The cultists begin chanting a prayer to Lissala in Thassilonian. As they do so, they hold hands and draw a series of intricate runes in the ground with their feet in an ancient, almost festive dance that writes words in an arcane script into the ground around you. One cultist, a woman, raises her head and speaks loudly to you while the other cultists continue their chanting...

"I am Indiria, I speak for the Master and the Mistress. You have come to serve the goddess, but she has no need of the weak and no need of those who know not obedience. You must prove yourselves worthy, and in return you shall be granted enlightenment, power, the promise of eternal life, and the honor of serving. If you would kneel before her, then you must willingly bear her symbol of power upon your flesh. Her holiness will be your holiness, and her blessing will aid you in the tests to come. Who will wear the Sihedron and know the power of the goddess?"

With her speech complete, the cultists cease their chant and the circle opens on the eastern end to provide access to the trough of molten slag running from the furnace. Indiria calls forth each initiate and asks if they would bear the mark of the Sihedron upon their flesh. The two initiates that came with you are called forth first. Clearly frightened, the man replies in the negative and is sent back to the center of the circle. Unafraid, the woman answers in the affirmative; Indiria draws from the trough a white-hot brand in the shape of a seven-pointed star. With this she brands the woman in a place of her choosing - the heated metal apparently causes no pain and leaves behind a magical tattoo. The woman then returns to the middle of the circle...

Indiria then turns to each of you and calls you forth to ask if you'll accept the symbol...

Each of you may either accept or refuse the symbol...

I assume one of us will have to do it. Well, here's hoping whatever this is can be fixed via magical healing later.

Indiria smiles and brands the tattoo onto Fendel's (you pick the spot). He feels no pain...and notices afterward that the tattoo appears to squirm like a worm under his skin...but you feel nothing of the sort so it appears to a be a visual effect/illusion...

Fendel:
You identify this permanent tattoo as the holy (or perhaps unholy) symbol of Lissala; you detect it will enhance your endurance and otherwise affect you in the following ways:

A character marked with this arcane tattoo receives a +2 profane bonus on Fortitude saves. Once per day, the character may activate the tattoo to receive a number of temporary hit points equal to twice their character level. Displaying the arcane tattoo grants a +4 circumstance bonus on Bluff and Diplomacy checks against worshippers of Lissala.

Fendel is then directed back into the middle of the circle and the next one of you is called forth...

Spirits of Bounty, do not forsake Kiboko for what he does today!

GM, is obtaining this tattoo classed as an Evil action? Kiboko has a boon that turns bad on him if he commits three Evil actions, and he's done one already.

Grand Lodge

Moonscar

Kiboko, while the tattoo itself gives off an faint aura of evil (abjuration & transmutation), nowhere in the scenario (nor on the Chronicle you'll receive) does it mention receiving it to be an evil act...so I'll say no, it's not an evil action, especially considering y'all are undercover. Even so, it's easy to see why a paladin, like Quiella, would refuse it...

I have to work onsite this morning, so I may not be able to move us forward till a bit later...

Grand Lodge

Quiella struggles a bit, but manages to turn down the symbol without giving herself away. Kiboko accepts and when both return to the circle, the cultists again begin to chant and Indiria speaks above the din.

"Serving Lissala is not a simple task, and one must be willing to suffer and sacrifice to attain the benefits of rule. The fire in your heart must burn brighter than this furnace. In this place, metal is separated from dross and given new form. Who among you is ready to be remade in the image of the divine? To join us, to become one of the Feasters of the Heart, you must walk through the furnace. In that hellish chamber, your devotion will be your armor. So come and tell me: whom do you server above all others? At whose command would you walk through flame?"

Indiria poses her last two questions to each initiate in turn.

Again, the two initiates who came with you walk up first. The man nervously, says "Lissala" and the woman, much more firmly, answers the same. After each speak it, Indiria says, "May it please the goddess," and ushers them into the furnace.

Then Indiria turns and calls each of you up there, one at a time...

Quiella:
Just an FYI...as a paladin, I know all of this is repugnant to you. Before you decide what to say, I just wanted you to be aware that this part of the 'initiation', unlike the tattoo, has no evil aura/spell tied with it, and Quiella can sense that...

After about 30 seconds, the flames die down, and a secret door pops open in the middle of the eastern wall and you and the two initiates make your way through the door...

The furnace's secret exit opens to a twenty-foot-square room with two exits in the northeast corner. It is empty save for two large barrels in the southwest corner. There is a single cultist there, also dressed in a black robe, hood pulled up and covering his face. As the last one of you enters the room, the secret door to the furnace shuts. The cultist then speaks and, by the voice, you're reasonably certain he's a male...

"You have shown yourselves to be worthy of what your are about to receive. You have been asked to wear the rune of the goddess on your flesh, and have put yourselves in mortal danger to obey the command of Lissala. The furnace has burned away your old life. Your fears, you weaknesses - those things are gone now. In the furnace, Lissala saw the strength of your dedication, and she was pleased. But now she must see the force of your will. You must decide among yourselves who is the most worthy of the goddess's honor, and who's the least. The most worthy will receive power beyond imagining. What happens to the weakest should be none of your concern. There are no rules save this: You have five minutes. In five minutes, you must present the greatest and the weakest among you, or you will all return to the furnace. And this time, it will not be so kind."

"The question is not about strength, but worthiness. Every time she has been faced with a challenge, she responded before Kiboko. She clearly has more faith in Lissala. You believe your faith in the goddess more? I cannot makes such a statement. "

"You reveal only your own weakness, small man" Kiboko glowers in response to Fendel.

What is Fendel thinking? It may have made sense to allow the two strangers to be chosen, but by consigning one of our own do we not doom her?

Quiella being weakest was Quiella's idea. Fendel proposed that the other rando dude was the weakest.

Just to be clear, Fendel IS focusing in the two strangers. I am trying to protect Quiella.

If Quiella is intent on protecting the two strangers by putting herself forwards as weakest, then Kiboko thinks that one of the pathfinders (ie himself) needs to be the strongest/greatest - because surely some horrible fate is in store for the weakest. Kiboko doesn't care for the strangers though: to his mind they are corrupt and attempting to join a vampire cult.

Kiboko looks to the two strangers for their response.

The male initiate breaks down. "Yes...I am the weakest...this is not what I thought it was...I don't belong...I want to go home..."

The female looks at him with disdain. "Well that part's settled..." Then she looks at Kiboko. "You may be stronger physically, but I'm stronger spiritually and I will not be DENIED! Callista spurned giving me power but I will have it NOW!"

Kiboko resists the urge to bite down on the woman's shoulder and thereby show her the error of her assertion. Instead, he growls and looks to Quiella to see if the gnomish pathfinder is willing to relent...

Basically, if Quiella is OK with letting the two strangers be selected then Kiboko also allows it. If Quiella wants to be chosen as the weakest, then Kiboko prefers to be chosen as the strongest rather than the female stranger and he will force the issue.

Quiella takes pity on the man and shakes her head. "No. I am the smallest here and clearly the weakest."

Kiboko grunts. "Yes, gnomes are pathetic" he snarls, and then turns to the ex-calistrian.

"So you seek revenge against the cult of Calistria? What use does Lissala have for one rejected by a gang of elven prostitutes? You sicken Kiboko! Kiboko should take your head off your shoulders right now!"
