Hannar the Wild

Hannar attempts to climb the staircase...

Magic Missile vs. Giant dead-looking bird thing: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 2 = 6
Bernard St. Ivre

Bernard fires another arrow at the bird, cursing under his breath.
Bow: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 261d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Xusius
|
Xusius realizes this dead, reeking bird is going to require more than a measly Magic Missile to put it down and begins to cast a more powerful spell.
Scorching Ray: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 184d6 ⇒ (6, 5, 6, 1) = 18
He fires the ray at the dead bird hoping for the best!
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Bernard's arrow passes clear through the bird without apparent effect (DR), while Hallar's arcane bolts causes it to flinch. Representing an unhappy median Xusius's ray of fire is only about half as effects as he might have wished. (Resistance.) Thick black fetid smoke rises from the thing's crown.
Conditions Deep boggy floor space. With the only light (other than the party's) coming from the room above through a hole in the ceiling 15 feet above the floor to the south much of the room is dark or dim. The worm has a blur-effect making it harder to hit.

A few rules things. First, 4' of water means very few 5' steps. Second, jumping down last time around puts Pau in a squeeze (scroll down). Pau does however flank with Yangrit already, so there's that....
One of Pau's fists connect for a squishy semi-solid hit.

The dead bird reaches out with its beak, and spears Xusius down through his collarbone, and deep into the wizard's chest. The elf folds up into the water, which quickly begins to turn red. It caws shrilly its blank white eyes tracking the cerulean glow of the voidworm.

Dang! A 20 missed! That's some nice AC on an extra-large monster.
Amazed that she wasn't able to land a hit on the giant bird *right in front of her*, Yangrit tries landing one solid blow with her kama, aiming deliberately at its side.

Once again, Hannar the Wild casts Magic Missile, this time at the Blue Blurry thing...
Magic Missile vs. Blue Blurry Thing: 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 2) + 2 = 6
SR vs. Blue Blurry Thing(if needed): 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 4 + 1 = 24
I forget...1d20+class level+spell level(?)
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
A creature with spell resistance can avoid the effects of spells and spell-like abilities that directly affect it. To determine if a spell or spell-like ability works against a creature with spell resistance, the caster must make a caster level check (1d20 + caster level). If the result equals or exceeds the creature’s spell resistance, the spell works normally, although the creature is still allowed a saving throw.
But this creature does not seem particularly resistant to magic (resistant to reality 'yes', magic 'no') so you're good. No roll needed.
Though you still do need line of sight to target it.... 10' tall bookshelves and it's flying at human chest-level. Can Hallar get into a position that allows him to see it and still have a standard action left to activate his wand?

LOL. You keep calling me Hallar. Hannar is standing on the bookcase he climbed last round and is casting the spell, not using a wand.
| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Noted, and noted, and noted! My bads. ;) Still it is pretty much impossible to see a cat-sized creature 6-feet down in a narrow rift 10-feet away. Hannar is going to have to hop over there to see what's what to target it.

Now that she doesn't see any immediate threat to her safety, Yangrit takes a moment to nab couple of potions of Cure Light Wounds from her pack. Would that count as two move actions, or one, if she's grabbing both with one hand around the neck of each bottle? She holds one out to Bernard. "Here, give him this. Pull his head out of the water first, though." Then she wipes some slimy dead bird goo off her hair.

Now what?
Yangrit Foehammer
|
Yangrit hands Xusius the potion she was trying to get to him. "Here. Take this. Now, everyone, start looking for bits of that scroll." She begins bobbing around in the water as she searches for a particular soaked piece of paper among a bog of soaked pieces of paper.

Pereception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (1) + 6 = 7

Xusius coughs out more water before pulling the cork from the CLW potion and downing it.

"Zank zou, Yangrit. I shall repay zou after ze meezzion."
He retrieves his Wand of Magic Missile and begins to search for scroll parts.

| The World's Most Interesting GM |
Xusius and Deluge both come away finding a couple of brass scroll cases floating amid the wreckage. Both are of similar make with relief designs molded along their exteriors one is of serpentine dragon, while the other is of a bird. Both look like they unscrew at one end. Deluge of course gets his container wedged with it standing upright between his crocodile jaws.

"Of course." Yangrit grunts. She grabs another one of hers and downs it, since she is still bleeding into the dark water.
Potion of CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Is it me, or do these things do less than they did before?
She then bobs over to Deluge and gingerly takes the scroll case from his jaws.
Swim: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Swimming isn't going so well with all the pulpy remains of parchment and scrolls in the water. She switches to bobbing up and down, catching a gulp of air at the apex of each jump. "This is something I never thought I would experience. Each time her mouth clears the water, she calls out to the group: "Here--someone tall--take this!"
Yangrit is 4'-1" tall, so she's having "so much fun" in this 4' deep water.
Deluge-Core
|
Deluge waits patiently and tries not to snap down on Yangrit's hand in irritation when she takes the scroll case. fortunately he is not as irritated as he might have been due to the nice snack he just ate. In spite of his satisfied tummy, he briefly considers switching back to human form to take a swig of his fermented goat's milk to wash down the meal in the appropriate fashion. But for one, something trumps his gluttony and he remains an alligator to avoid Yangrit's predicament. Alligators are made for bogs.

Hannar is still moving towards the rear of the room with Detect Magic active looking for a possible entry point from whence these creatures came.
After a few rounds of looking around the area, Hannar, detects the presence of a third scroll case with a screw-on top (like the other two, but with a fish design). All three have faint magical auras. Shaking the scroll cases reveals that there is little (if any) liquid in them. Something only a little smaller than the cases themselves does thump around in them.
