Scarab Sages

You and Zigvigix wind up trapped as the last line of defense of the Starfinder scanning tower as a mob of jinsuls descends upon it. The tower’s outer defenses hold back the brunt of the horde and Ziggy provides artillery support from an elevated turret, but the PCs must thin the jinsul forces and beat back the ones who slip past the defenses until the army disperses

Meta crunch

H1. Terrain Cannon
Here a PC can load chunks of stone into the purple vault on the southeast wall, which launches them outside with deadly force.
Loading the cannon requires an average Athletics check and deals d12 damage to the horde.

H2. Barrier Pulse
A PC who sits in the contraption in the room’s eastern track can overcharge the force field and expel the excess energy in a lethal blast of electricity. Using this device requires a successful average Computers check, and it deals 7d8 damage to the horde.

H3. Computer Terminal
A PC who uses this computer can attempt a Hard Computers check to add one die to the damage inflicted by all other tower defenses activated that round.

H4. Stone Supply
This room contains stones that supply ammunition for the cannon in area H1.

H5. Atmosphere Control
This room maintains the tower’s atmosphere, including the supercooled gases that power the freezing spray controlled by the
reactor in area H6.

H6. Freezing Spray
The reactor in the northwest corner of this room can be set to envelope the entire area surrounding the tower in dangerously cold mist. A PC can use this device against the jinsuls with an Average Engineering check, dealing 9d6 damage to the horde.

H7. Security Mainframe
The screen along the southern wall of this room provides manual control over the tower’s internal security protocols. A PC who uses the screen can see the occupants of every room in the tower via security cameras, remotely close any door such that the door requires a full action to open (or a move action with a successful Average Athletics check) using a move action, and make ranged attacks against jinsuls inside any single room using their ranged
attack bonus to fire a laser rifle set into the room’s ceiling (1d8 F damage)

H8. Power Core
This room holds the central power cell that fuels the tower’s outer
force fields, its surface visible as a flat green plane.

H9. Perimeter Breach
Perception check prior to the encounter.
H10. Tunnel Entrance
Perception check prior to the encounter.

Everyone needs to pick a location to start as the horde of Jinsul will try to take down your tower.

Forgot to mention;

Each defense can only be used once per round, and requires a standard action to activate.
All tower doors automatically open when approached unless locked from area H7, and the whole structure has normal light.

Tania will think about seting up in Atomsphere control to use the freezing spray on the horde unless the team has somewhere else they want her. She'll do what they prefer.

Tania doesn't spot anything out of the ordinary at first until her survey brings her to;

The holes in the ground here bypass the outer force fields, allowing jinsuls to climb inside from underground. Jinsuls can emerge here from the southern and western crevasses.
The breach is too large to readily patch.

In case it isn't clear to anyone this means that besides using big weapons on a large horde (swarm) of Jinsuls outside you also have to deal with individual Jinsuls getting inside the building and sabotaging your efforts/straight up trying to kill you

The goal is to kill the swarm outside by dealing enough damage to it btw

This room contains an access point from the outside, allowing jinsuls swarming over the tower to infiltrate. Jinsuls emerge from the northwestern corner.

@Aravon; No,it's like a belt feed cannon type thing with the ammo (rocks) being in a different chamber. But if someone (let's say an invading Jinsul) was to get to the H4 room they could shut down the supply of rocks to the cannon so it couldn't be fired anymore

A Medium or smaller creature can squeeze through the narrow passage (both ways) which is used by the automated system to deliver rocks from H4 to H1

Qwyn can fire the Barrier Pulse (H2) at the swarm until the Jinsuls penetrate the facility; then I could run to the Security Mainframe (H7) which is not far away to man the ceiling laser rifles as my ranged weapon mod is pretty good (+6)…

Qwyn will man the Barrier Pulse Room (H2); he'll fiddle with the computers to get it to fire at the oncoming Jinsul swarm...

Sorry....had to go into work today, and was dealing with almost losing an instrument...able to get back to it now. Also...trying to figure out something. Do we need to have somebody in H4 to load rocks on the conveyor to get them H1? If so, Bar will be willing to do that, and to keep an eye on H10 as he does.

Bar Unless I am wrong on this will go into the place with all the stones so he can make sure the conveyor belt gets loaded for Aravon to launch. And to keep Jinsuls from sabotaging it.

"Does anybody have a grenade or two they would be willing to loan me? If I have a moment, I want to rig up a few grenade traps in the tunnels if possible."

While not proficient in grenades, I would hope that with a few moments I could rig a grenade to go off...even if it doesn't hurt anything, it will notify me of intruders. I have engineering to hopefully do this.

Silas, I don't think you have to make an Athletics check to fire the lasers; I think that check is made for anyone trying to open a door that's been locked down from H7...


Another transmission alert comes across your screens. "Our pilots captured a jinsul ship and traced its flight coordinates to a secret command base hidden on Bastiar-3. The base is well defended, but destroying it will disable the jinsuls’ communications network. This mission calls for agents ready to storm jinsul defenses to win us a crucial advantage."

The Starfinder Fleet kicks on their thrusters rushing to Callion-2 as the Jinsul Fleet shifts further back into Bastiar-3

Table GMs, the Scout Hunt mission is closed, and the Trench Assault mission in Part 2 is now unlocked.

@Bar, it's automated and doesn't need an player action. It can how ever be stopped by a Jinsul causing the cannon to stop working

@Bar; I'm fine with you using a bit of string and a grenade to cause it explode if a door opens. Just mark the door(s) you want to trap on the map and use a grenade. But unless a party member uses an action to disable the grenade it will also explode when they go through the door

@Silas; what Qwyn said; athletics is just to open locked doors. Also the gun fires _inside_ the complex so at the moment there's nothing to fire it at. I'll use it a readied action for the first Jinsul to enter a room inside the complex

Not sure if I missed a question since you asking again; but yes. At the start of the combat you could have. If you do it's for this the entire party for this encounter though.

Unless somebody has a grenade they are willing to lend me it was mostly a pipe dream. With that, and since it isn't needed for H4, Bar will go to the computers and attempt to help by making a crazy hard roll for his +6 to Computers

I am fine using the one boon we got to get weapons and consumable... ((Edit)): If we do pick this, I will get a mark 1 Riot Grenade (tier 2 grenade)

When to goes to weapons, you could take grenade launcher ;) It has a capacity of 6 grenades, drop the launcher get out the grenades and yo are set ;) And yeah I asked the team, as I need more healing serums. If we go with it I will take Handcanon Bravado and a healing serum

After setting up some quick defenses inside Don't forget to mark any doors you've attached a grenade too you spread out through the complex to fight of the Jinsul

Qwyn fiddles with the computers near the barrier to get it to fire at the oncoming Jinsul swarm sending a pulse out from the barrier by overcharging it. The pulse slams into the wave of jinsuls killing a few instantly and hurting a few more causing them to limb to the back of the line.

If I understand correctly, I need to move to the belt or container with rocks, pick up the stones and move to the pink space? If so then it means that another being can be here as Aravon will not be able to keep the thing shooting each round.

@Aravon, all you need to do is roll an athletics check to lift a large rock that is delivered from the automatic convener belt in the next room into the cannon which will then auto fire. It's a bit vague on where you need to be in the room, but as far as I can tell as long as you spend your standard action doing it you're fine

Aravon loads the big cannon which then fires the rock crushing into the horde

Tania unleashes the cooling spray all along the perimeter dosing the jinsuls and causing massive damage

On the monitors Silas sees - from both weak points in your walls - 2 emerging jinsuls (so 4 total) which start to roam around. Silas let's the internal defenses shoot at one of them, but the shot misses. It does cause them to move around a bit more cautiously.

Since it doesn't effect the flow of combat for now I'll just take the next actions as well so that the entire party can act at the same time
Zigvigix unloads his big blaster from a elevated position and blasts a few holes in the invading forces

The horde outside keeps throwing themselves at the fortifications and start to blast away at your force field

Okay, First off...apparently it never took my previous post (which is from here on down).
I will spend my first round of tower defense getting the grenade attached to the doors (it is the white rectangle on the double doors) it is hanging right on the inside of them, so when the doors get flung/ripped off, it will go off. The rest of my action would be to get to H3 to fiddle with the computers after this round.

Once Bar gets back to the computer, he will see if his computer skills are great...or no better than a monkey.

Aravon drops the stone on the floor and has to spend some time picking it up again

Bar pushes some buttons, but they turn out to not be the right buttons in the correct sequence
I'm sorry, but I don't see a white triangle? But there's only one set of double doors so I'll assume it's there

Since this was everyone but Tania I'll NPC here in for now to keep things moving and she can take her next action normally

Approaching one of the doors (which as far as I know haven't been locked) a Jinsul watches in surprise as it opens in front of him and it and it's buddy move further into the compound while 2 others make their way closer to the rock convener after scouting through the room first

Zigvigix fires away with abandonment again blaster holes in the horde of Jinsuls outside

Aravon has some troubles as he's working up a sweat and the stone he's trying to life becomes too slipper to hold on to and it almost drops on his toes.

From deep within in the compound Silas sees an explosion on one of the screens

After being informed that his grenade has exploded and that the compound is invaded Bar moves quickly towards the invading Jinsuls

Silas shoots again hitting the same Jinsul once more.
After that Silas locks the doors.

The Jinsul surprised by the explosion tries to force their way past the bent metal
Athletics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15 and using his alien strength manages to make it to the next door.
Athletics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
where he and his companion are stuck trying to get through the next door.

On the other side of the complex one of them tries to force open another door
Athletics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 = 23
and has no troubles getting further inside.The last one finding only empty sleeping area's double times it back to another door

but can't manage to pry the door open.

Bar hears scratching sounds like large blades scraping across the door from the other side.

Aravon manages to load another stone which goes into the horde slamming into multiple Jinsul.

Bar readies to shoot at the first Jinsul that he sees.

Silas sees another Jinsul crawl through one of the holes.

One Jinsul moves closer to a door and tries to force it open

Aravon hears the Jinsuls getting closer so he abandons his post and rushes towards Tania. He pulls out his pistol and attempts to open the doors.

Assuming Silas gives us a rundown on where each of the Jinsuls are at vs. us....Bar should know there is one around the corner...right? And if so, will attempt to do a trick attack....if not, consider it just a move and shoot

After hearing from Silas what is happening, Bar runs around the corner, attempting to bluff the Jinsul in believing he is suprised to see it there.

Bluff to trick Jinsul: 1d20 + 10 + 4 - 20 ⇒ (5) + 10 + 4 - 20 = -1<--to equal orbeat CR of Creature....sigh....never mind....
Shot at Jinsul (KAC): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7

Apparently Bar was so good at fooling himself...he really was surprised to see the Jinsul.

And this is why I only have one Operative....slinging 1d20 is bad enough...2d20 for anything seems like playing the lottery...

@Aravon, I mentioned it 2 rounds ago but didn't include in my last update after that. Athletics DC 15 to open a door as a move. Otherwise full round action. I'm fine with your coordinating with Silas on which door you want opened in front of you btw so you can get there more easily

@Bar; yeah you know it's there you saw it open the door, walk in and shot at it last round (your readied action was to shoot the first one you saw)
Bar is surprised that a Jinsul made it this far and his aim if off.

Tania is clearly flustered and frustrated and just keeps trying to cycle the machinery against the horde. Her efforts pay of and she unleashes another stream of coolant liquids over the hordes while some individual Jinsul are closing in on her position.

Ziggy keeps blasting away..he's having trouble spotting large areas of them to fire into and is down to trying to take out individual ones now

Bar get's pounced by a Jinsul, it;s sharp leg blades leading the way as it tries to bite

The same happens a few rooms away to Tania
To hit KAC Tania: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20

While the other Jinsul is stuck behind a door that Silas closed on it.
