Female Half-Elf aka Katherine Weaver

"Well, let's go talk to something in person." Kamari starts to descend the stairs confident with the knowledge that she can activate her boots and fly back up if necessary.

Roll20 Map - Tracking Sheet

Major Kort:
”I am unimportant, the naga Clacosic is the danger. You must wait until she comes and we can take her together! She’ll be here soon, just be patient.”

Lie, lie, lie. Well, he does believe she’ll be here soon, but that’s what he’s waiting for. He’s stalling you.
- - -

Kamari descends the ramp of rubble. You can still see her, just, some 60’ down in a cave. Any who cares to follow her may read the spoiler as well.

Kamari (at least):
As mortal cities expand and renovate, they build atop old foundations and slowly rise. Axis has existed for eons, and Sayashto sits atop hundreds of past construction levels that have gradually compressed into their constituent quintessence. The city’s sewers carve through these old foundations in an orderly fashion, but countless passages snake off from the main thoroughfares.

Something recently dissolved a small complex of caverns beneath the cemetery. From here, several tunnels wind back to the main sewers hundreds of feet away. There's also another cave to the east.

Will save please, upon descending. And let me know your light source(s).

Female Jininese Elf Lvl 15

”I wonder if that naga is what I sensed back in the sewers in Zimar.” She looks at Major Kort. ”It was invisible.”

She dons her ioun stone of continual light and follows after Kamari.

Muri fumbles for a torch, standing on the edge of the rubble ramp. "Can't you ask it to come up here? We head down there, and we're dealing with it where it wants to." When Kamari heads down, Muri saddles up, only after instructing Underfoot to bite down on the safe part of the lit torch.

Underfoot is nonplussed. Her eyes pierce the darkness well enough without torchlight. She looks down the ramp, her eyes aflame, then proceeds to navigate the slope. The first chance she gets, Underfoot will try to drop the torch. Likely when the halfling in the saddle tells her to come to a complete stop.

"Lots of tunnels down here. Some of them very new." Kamari shout up to anyone who did not follow.

GM Rolls:
1d20 ⇒ 11

Will save DC was 19.

Those who failed their save:
You see a marvelous sight! Beautiful mats of mushrooms - all sorts and sizes, and even a few subdued colors here and there. It all leads to a chamber in the east where there lies a fungal node the size of a halfling which pulses like an evil heart. Thrum… Thrum… Thrum…
- - -

Those who made their save & true sight:
The floor of this whole area is covered in a few feet of sewage water making everything difficult terrain. Ugh. Further it emits a toxic, opaque gas that fills the area within 5’ of the water. The fumes do indeed look poisonous (Fort save if you enter the gaseous area - you can try to hold your breath also) and will grant concealment to anything medium sized or smaller (20% miss chance beyond 5’).

From the east is a pulse which causes the water to ripple a bit and stirs the gas. Thrum… Thrum… Thrum…
- - -

You all hear, telepathically, ”Come, join me and we will wait for the naga. We will fight him together!” The voice coos. ”The mushrooms will support you. Come, come.”

Sense Motive DC 15:
Liar!! Well, the voice does want to wait for the naga, but you doubt the creature will be fighting on your side when the naga does arrive.
- - -

I’ve placed you on the SE corner of the map where the tunnels are. However, I’m assuming you’re all still on the ramp for now.

Remember, anyone who enters the pool, needs to make a Fort save DC 18 or suffer 1 con drain, and further saves as the poison settles through your system. You can also hold your breath (con x2 rounds - but remember attacking costs an extra round of breath).

Elen double moves toward the wall of gaseous death - and yes, you can keep the save taking half damage when you eventually go through the cloud, so con damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 halved = 2. Kamari double moves through the cloud of death also getting con damage: 1d4 ⇒ 4 halved = 2. Edelmira notes that there are pockets of fresh air near the ceiling, but the tunnels are rough, and there’s no passage at that height. So the best you could do is wait while the gas passes you by. Muri suffers as he and Underfoot move up. Muri please continue to make Fort saves for the poison running through your system. Major Kort also double moves closer.

As you slosh through the water and enter the area more fully, everyone please make a reflex save DC 25 vs disease (even those flying). Yes, reflex vs disease. Odd combo. Fail and the disease immediately takes effect too for extra cheating, instead of waiting 24 hours to incubate. It drives up your temperature and weakens your body almost instantly (1d3 dex damage and 1d3 con damage if you fail), nothing if you succeed.

Though relatively small in size, the sewer blight seems to command the refuse around it! Those tentacles rise up out of the garbage, lengthen (15’ reach!), and lash out at Kamari.

tentacle on Kamari: 1d20 + 23 ⇒ (9) + 23 = 32 damage: 2d8 + 11 + 2d6 ⇒ (8, 2) + 11 + (6, 4) = 31 (2d6 is acid)

Round 2, AC 30 with Kort's sometimes forgotten blessing

REF save: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (12) + 17 = 29

Kamari floats 5' closer and draws on her scarf for that extra 5' of reach before trying to stagger the creature with a targeted strike to its torso.

Targeted Strike:
(Ex) (Advanced Class Guide pg. 58): At 7th level, as a full-round action the swashbuckler can spend 1 panache point to make an attack with a single light or one-handed piercing melee weapon that cripples part of a foe’s body. The swashbuckler chooses a part of the body to target. If the attack succeeds, in addition to the attack’s normal damage, the target suffers one of the following effects based on the part of the body targeted. If a creature doesn’t have one of the listed body locations, that body part cannot be targeted. Creatures that are immune to sneak attacks are also immune to targeted strikes. Items or abilities that protect a creature from critical hits also protect a creature from targeted strikes.
Arms: The target takes no damage from the attack, but it drops one carried item of the swashbuckler’s choice, even if the item is wielded with two hands. Items held in a locked gauntlet cannot be chosen.
Head: The target is confused for 1 round. This is a mind-affecting effect.
Legs: The target is knocked prone. Creatures with four or more legs or that are immune to trip attacks are immune to this effect.
Torso or Wings: The target is staggered for 1 round.

Roll20 Map - Tracking Sheet

Elen double moves into position, drawing an AoO but ducking under the anticipated blow. Kamari attacks with reach after a 5’ flap closer and she connects (no DR). Unfortunately, as an ooze, it is immune to critical hits and precision damage (including the staggering effect). Edelmira takes some care with the cloudkill. Muri sweeps in Muri con dam: 1d4 ⇒ 1 halved = 1 (?), Underfoot con dam: 1d4 ⇒ 3 halved = 1. Then he connects, planting the arrow firmly. Major Kort learns the creature has no DR, it’s special attack is the terrain changes it has made here, and it has no particular weaknesses. Oh, if attacked in melee, without a reach weapon, it’s acidic blood can burn you and your weapon but it hasn’t used that ability yet. Oh and he hits with his bolt.

The ooze lashes out at Elen and Kamari. It seems to be enjoying itself splashing around in the water and making as much noise as possible.

The blow crumbles Kamari in mid air - I think Kamari has fallen into the water (I'll say face up to be nice) and is down. Maybe even worse...

After lashing out the ooze seems to heal a great deal of the damage dealt (fast healing or regeneration 10). It chuckles a deep throated warble as it slaps Kamari.

Lastly Muri, Fort DC 18 or suffer con drain: 1d3 ⇒ 2 from the poisons affecting him. The disease in Underfoot has taken a firm hold, but no further issues until tomorrow on that front.

Elen blocks the critical blow! And then lands a blow of her own. Kamari gets up and menaces the creature. I think picking up your blade might provoke, but maybe it’s in a locked gauntlet… Either way Edelmira is correct about the turn order, but she does manage a blow as well - chipping away at the monster. Muri finishes with three hits on the beast, bringing it down! Major Kort has an action in addition to below’s note.

The thrashing of the garbage throughout the room stills. The writhing tentacles fall back into the sludge, inert. Even the general odor of the place seems to lift. A bit.

However…

Your many perceptive ears hear, in the silence after the battle, a sloshing in the sewers. Something is coming from deeper down. Something large. Perhaps the naga!

If you’re relatively quiet, you’ll have 11 rounds of actions before we continue the battle. We’re technically out of initiative, but time is short - pending your actions - and there’s some healing to be done. There are several wands of CLW floating around, but fewer who can use them.

What do you do with your minute or so?

Oh, the poison still coursing through his veins, Muri, Fort DC 18 or suffer con drain: 1d3 ⇒ 1 (last save).

The party smoothly pulls out wands for those who can use them, passing them around as needed. Muri even channels a few times - perhaps for the first time ever? All told, the party readies themselves quickly and efficiently - ready to face their new threat. Clacosic the naga!

The first thing you see though is an immense, three-eyed frog-like creature rearing up on powerful hind legs. In place of arms, four huge tentacles thrash and writhe looking for targets. It is massive, scraping the ceiling in parts as it goes along.

Knowledge Dungeoneering DC 24 Froggy:
You face a Fiendish Froghemoth. N Huge aberration.

Thankfully rare, the froghemoth is one of the deep swampland’s most ferocious and monstrous predators. Capable of catching and eating dinosaurs and even dragons, the froghemoth is a frighteningly effective ambush hunter. When lying in wait for prey, the immense creature secrets itself in deep marsh pools and mud so that only the top of its eyestalk emerges from the surface. The froghemoth’s eyes are incredibly keen, but even more impressive is the monster’s tongue. Like a snake, a froghemoth can “taste” its surroundings with extraordinary accuracy.

One question for each five you beat the DC.

Behind the froggy behemoth, is the naga (image), slithering up through the muck like he was born to it.

Knowledge Dungeoneering DC 20 Naga:
You face a Slime Naga. NE Large aberration.

At home in the muck and filth of the sewers beneath large cities, slime nagas prey upon the weak and dejected of urban society. They lurk beneath the surface and carve out their domains in the darkened tunnels, fighting with other subterranean denizens for territory. Though they live belowground for security and safety, they have no aversion to light and occasionally sun themselves in rancid cesspools. Their scales range in color from green to brown and are often a mottled combination of various shades that is difficult to discern beneath a thick coating of putrid slime. A slime naga stretches 12 to 14 feet long and weighs 250 pounds.

Kort ponders his response.

Female Half-Elf aka Katherine Weaver

Surprise Round

Unsure what they are facing and awaiting Kort's sage shouts from the other side of the cavern once things explode, Kamari activates her winged boots for the last time today. Her stomach tightens as her options seem to be dwindling quickly.

Roll20 Map - Tracking Sheet

Froggy - no DR, swallows whole so yeah, one bite. It has a lot of attacks to boot.

Naga - no DR, no SR, but resists acid, it's bite has poison, it controls oozes with a whim, and can spit a glob of entangling muck - so surprising it was a good move.

Kamari, how long do the boots last? It's only been ~3 minutes tops since you activated them in the last battle. Probably more like 2.
