Slenk also steps forward and places his hand on the ember.

"One at a time, place your hands on the stone and recite the following: 'I swear my absolute allegiance to Archbaron Darellus Fex, Her Infernal Majestrix Queen Abrogail II of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune, and the Empire of Cheliax."

Seeing the brand on his palm, he steps back and does the sign of the Archstar. THough he had affirmed his loyalty to his nation, his loyalty to his god came before all else.

He can vividly remember the proper protocol being drilled into him as a novitiate.

Since touching fire is generally a poor idea, Veda lets several others proceed before her to see how it goes. Since none of them seem too badly affected, She steps forward to touch the ember as well.

"I swear my absolute allegiance to Archbaron Darellus Fex, Her Infernal Majestrix Queen Abrogail II of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune, and the Empire of Cheliax."

She says the words in a rote manner, showing neither particular interest or emotion. Afterward she looks at her hand, mostly to decide whether it will need a healing salve soon or it can wait a while.

Lily places her right palm on the stone and recites the oath, "I swear my absolute 'legence to Arcbaron Darelus Fex, Her Infernal Majestrix Queen Abrogal II of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune, and the Empire of Cheliax." Her hand stings from the fire but she feels this way nearly every time she gets too angry, so she's used to it. Accompanied by the pain is a foreign and familiar sensation of satisfaction. Lily finds herself smirking as she examines the scar.

Cimri returned Jerax's wink with a wan smile before looking down at her hands.

After you all swore your respective oaths, a familiar voice emanated from behind another set of curtains, "I told you they’d be up to the vow. And eager to get to work, I suspect. Which is good, considering what I’ve just uncovered."

Fex crossed the room and drew back the curtain, “There’s no need for your dramatics any longer, Razelago,” he said.

Inside the alcove sat a stool and writing desk heaped with pages. Clinging to the desk, almost unbalancing it, was a bloated fly’s abdomen of monstrous proportions from which sprouted the chubby upper body of a human infant. A neck hidden by fatty folds swiveled and a pair of black, compound eyes squinted against the light. Insectile mouth-parts flexed enthusiastically between pudgy lips and Razelago’s voice issued forth: “As you say, My Lord.”

Alixus' composure nearly breaks when he sees Razelago's true form, but he quickly regains it when he realizes he's in the presence of a devil when Jerax begins speaking in Infernal.

Alixus nods to the creature and places a hand over his heart, before saying in Infernal,

Infernal:

"I had never surmised you were a child of the Pit. I greet you then, face to face." One trained in Infernal linguistics would recognize the tone and inflection of the specific tone of deferring to a mid-ranking superior, while keeping the ultimate superior in higher regard.

As with all the others, Ameliya swore the oath aloud, speaking in perfect diction as she made it. "I swear my absolute allegiance to Archbaron Darellus Fex, Her Infernal Majestrix Queen Abrogail II of the Thrice-Damned House of Thrune, and the Empire of Cheliax."

When the fires of the orb burned a mark into her hand she suffered its pain with a slight grimace. The scar was unseeingly to her eyes, but Ameliya figured that a glove, makeup or even magic would be able to hide it away.

Knowledge (Planes): 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (8) + 8 = 16

The revelation that Razelago was a creature of the Nine Hells did not come a shock to Ameliya despite the admitted suddenness of the reveal. Indeed, the fact that the devil's natural form was a mixture of a fly and toddler seemed almost appropriate given how much the madame had come to find the creature's elusiveness to be annoying. Regardless, given the devil's relation to the Archbaron, Ameliya saw fit to give the creature something approaching renewed respect and deference.

Razelago's mandibles twitch as his lips curl upwards into a twisted smile. "Kamulyan dadi neraka," it replies in infernal. ("Glory be to hell.")

Switching to common, he continues speaking as he crawls atop the top of the desk, "I'm glad to see you are not so concerned about my appearance as some others." Forewarned from earlier conversations with Veda, even Cimri seems to have been prepared for this and doesn't much flinch. "Regardless, to business, with Your Lordship's permission..."

Fex nods with permission to proceed, and so Razelago does, "“This Angel Knight doesn’t appear to be just some fiction concocted by an overzealous priestess. A talentless local minstrel named Riley Kels claims to have met her, and has even composed a series of ballads in her honor. While the amateur’s singing is crime enough, he performed these songs at The Last Stand Tavern last night—which incidentally broke the new curfew and sanctions against gathering.

“If it pleases Your Lordship, our friends here should arrest The Last Stand’s owner, Bolgart Caggan, for defying the new law. I suggest pillorying him in front of the jail as an example to others. Additionally, see what you can find out about the Angel Knight from Kels. But, perhaps his new agents have an alternative idea in mind?"

Ameliya had to suppress wide grin as she saw a ripe opportunity fall right into her lap. The madame's eyes moved back to the tall and imposing Archbaron as she readied to make her argument. "The Last Stand is quite the profitable establishment, Your Lordship. I would be a terrible shame if one of your sources of tax revenue was disrupted because of Caggan's lack of loyalty. Perhaps you would see fit to grant me, your loyal agent, the tavern's deed as an added punishment for Caggan's crimes? Public humiliation is all well and good, of course, but perhaps a more material punishment is in order as well to truly make it known to the townsfolk of Lonagacre that such crimes will not be tolerated."

It's been 24 hours since my last post, so I will continue with my original idea that was posted in Discussions.
Jerax walked with forcefully purpose to the front door of the Last Stand tavern, with the rest of his fellow imperial agents trotting in his wake to catch up. Cimri smiles and grins a bit when Jerax insists she come along. "Alright, sounds good."

SM DC 24:
She is actually a bit worried or distracted by something, 'worried' might be a better word, but it doesn't seem to have anything to do with Caggan.

===================

While Jerax doesn't knock the door of its hinges, the crash of the door slamming open still makes for quite an entrance. Inside the last stand, Caggan is at the end of the bar, wearing a heavily stained apron but without the pot and ladle he wielded. On the stage at the far side of the tavern is a brightly dressed human male strumming a cherry wood lute and crooning an awkward ballad, which comes to a screeching halt as the door bursts open and the towering tiefling comes through. There are ten townsfolk enjoying an early lunch, and three tavern employees.

One of the townspeople, upon noticing Jerax, snickers slightly and whispers to a tablemate.

Whisper, Perception DC 12:
"I guess he didn't like the chili."

Caggan, who had been leaning on the bar and listening to the man on the stage, jerks upright and looks towards the door in surprise until recognition dawns and his expression darkens. "Get out of my place, if you know what's good for ya," he growls.

The tavern patron tries to duck Jerax's grip and nearly succeeds, but the tiefling was too fast and a dull crack resonated through tavern as the human's head met the table. Caggan stepped away from the bar, tilted his head to the side causing the vertebrae in his neck to crack, and drawled at Jerax, "I never was too smart," as he raised his fists.

Cimri replied to Lily sotto voce, "Yup, that's him."

Slenk/Jerax: Not sure Jerax is exactly waiting. I'm going to drop us into initiative. Depending on how it sorts out, if folks want to "delay" until Slenk does his hex, that's fine.

With as quickly as Caggan had fallen, Cimri wasn't sure what direction this was going to go, so she pulled her kukri in one hand and sap in the other while she advanced towards the bar.

==Bottom of Round 1==

The bard smiles broadly as Lily approaches, offering a performative bow as he steps back, "Indeed, fair maiden, none other!" He then begins to sing a rollicking tune of standing up against a bandit. Bardic Performance: Inspire Courage.

From behind the bar, one of the staff rushes over to Caggan and shoves him, "Wake up, boss! They done bewitched ya!" Caggan stirs, stands, and growls with rage. He takes a step to the side of the bar and waves at Jerax to come at him.

One of the 'maids nearest the bar grabs a ceramic flagon and flings it at Jerax, but it soars over his head and breaks against the far wall. The 'maid who had been shoved by the tiefling comes right back at him and swings her serving tray at him. "Get outta here, ya brute!"

It is a surprisingly sturdy tray... Jerax takes 5 points of damage.

Round 2
WHAM! Jerax pauses as his vision shifts from the barmaid's tray slap. Shaking off the effects, the towering tiefling looks down at the barmaid and sneers, "You're fighting outside your weight class, ßitch!!" And slams his hooved foot down on the barmaid's toes, shaking the floor beneath both combatants.

With the tavern brawl now started in earnest, Ameliya sets her cold eyes on a reawakened Caggan, preparing to blast him with her powers but wanting to taunt him first.

"You should listen to my fellow enforcers of the law, Caggan," she says with sardonic sweetness."If not, well..." the psyhic smiled as she unleashed a onslaught of psychic power on the tavern owner's mind.

Jerax pummels one of the barmaids into unconsciousness with contemptuous ease, while Slenk imbues him with good fortune. Lily eschews any effort to spare her quarry and delivers a cruel pair of blows against the bar, creating a nasty pair of wounds and eliciting a yelp of pain from the bard. Ameliya summons forth a mental stab of pain for Caggan while barbed chains appear from nothingness.

Cimri comes up to the barmaid who had flung a flagon at Jerax. The slice with her kukri goes wide, but the sap connects solidly and the barmaid is drops to the ground unconscious. "Nighty night," Cimri quips.

== Bottom of Round 2 ==

Riley looks down at the wounds and screams, "AUGH! I give up! Stop! I'm just a singer!"

Caggan sees the bloody bard on the stage and storms towards Lily with purpose, drawing a warhammer as he advances then swings with both hands, "I SAID GET OUT!" The warhammer cracks into Lily with a sickening thud.

15 points of damage

The patrons and remaining barmaid stay out of the fray, ducking behind tables or the bar.

Round 3 FIGHT!
Seconds after stomping the barmaid's tiny toes into paste, a familiar feeling washes over the towering tiefling. It was the same feeling the antipaladin had when he got two royal flushes in a row down at Dice's End, and tripled his weekly pay: he felt 'on-fire', but not elementally, but lucky!! Butt-lucky! [snort] And then.. did someone just cackle?

Jerax's head whips around to see the barkeep use his warhammer to strike the former pirate down. "Alright!" The knight of Asmodeus spat. "Weapons, it is." As Jerax walks to confront Caggan, the tiefling's lithe tail hands the antipaladin's new masterwork spiked chain into his hands.

LOL!!!

Jerax steps up and draws a rope of blood from Caggan with his spiked chain, setting up a flank for Lily who returns Caggan's blow with infernal vengeance. Shockingly, the man is not dead, deflecting the worst of it at the last second with the hilt of his warhammer, but the blade still opens a grievous enough wound the man collapses to the ground and begins bleeding out.

He's dying. Named NPC so I'm going to go with the usual death and dying rules here.

The bard begins screaming again in the corner, "OH MY GODS! THEY KILLED HIM!!!" A split second later, the patrons are all rushing for the door, screaming in panic.

Not going to move their tokens yet as it's not their turn, but offering it for narrative effect in case it influences anyones actions.

Dropping rage, assuming we're out of combat. Fatigued for 4 rounds.
