Lady Vulpina |
What a halfling thing to say!
I'm bringing along Lady Vulpina, level 4 until the end of this scenario if I've done my math right!
Yours is mined |
Hi Lady V! It has been too long since we have gamed. Has your SO tried PFS/PbP yet?
🐱
noral, good to see you back on the boards! I trust Zaarah is well?
SV!!! always a pleasure. I’m also happy to finally be able to return the GMing favour for running Tapestry’s Toil for Antonella.
I don’t think we’ve gamed together before, Crunch? Though I’ve seen your name around the boards. I’m happy to rectify that here.
First order of business is to decide which PC you are bringing so I can calculate sub-tier. I am keen to get game play underway ASAP.
The scenario begins in the briefing room of Heidmarch Manor, Magnimar.

Good news on that front! A buddy gave me his Catfolk boon (the only way my wife will play), and she's most of the way through a run of Consortium Compact!
The downside is, there was no local PFS chapter, so I had to start my own.
I don't get to play alongside her, but I do get to be her GM! Some day, maybe I'll get to be her adventurin' buddy.
Sleeping Sword |
Thanks for the invite YIM :)
I almost applied to your Out of Anarchy game, but I'd already played the scenario and my plate was a bit too full then.
I think we're trending low tier with Trishadow's paladin and Lady V, so I would like to bring my level 4, Sleeping Sword. He's a monastic follower of the Empress of Heaven, Shizuru, trying to abide by Her teachings to master the Hunger. (He's a dhampir Hungry Ghost).
Loam Yin |
No, I don't think we've had the pleasure! I've also heard your name bandied about a few times, always in a good light. I'm looking forward to this.
I was thinking of playing Draklor, my bard 6. But now that levels are dipping lower, I could also play Loam Yin here. She's a wizard/arcanist 3 with a lot of knowledge and a gun! Her last adventure was also with Lady Vulpina, a big plus. Unless anyone else would rather have the nice bardic support, I think Loam is my preference.
noral |
Thanks a lot for choosing me GM! I hope you and all the players are well! I know all of you so I am very much looking forward to gaming with you! :-)
Yes, Zaarah is still around. :-D
I would go low tier then and play my naive and easily fooled Taarik, a third level Solar Ifrit Paladin 2 / Ninja 1 that is a follower of Irori.
I hope you all have a great Sunday!
Andor Katsu |
Oops, I just noticed that Andor is level 5 after all with one xp short of level 6 so I’ll play him after all if that is ok.
Yours is mined |
No problem, Andor.
While we wait for Kala and Korum to catch their breath after their last game, I’ll post the ground rules in case there are any questions.
If you have played with GMs like GM Doom ‘n Gloom, GM Supervillan or GM Hmm, I doubt there'll be any surprises ;)
❀ Please make it obvious what buffs you have active and what your AC is.
❀ Miss is always low if a miss chance applies. For example, if there is a 50% miss chance on a melee attack, a result of 1-50 on d100 is a miss.
❀ I roll group initiative and track character actions.
❀ If I make a mistake on the current combat round, please let me know and I will try to make it right.
❀ I generally prefer PCs to roll their own saving throws and Attacks of Opportunity (AoO). However …
❀ I like a relatively fast-paced scenario. I find when a game loses momentum, the fun is quickly sucked out of it.
As such, if you do not post an action within 24 hours from when I invite you to post, I reserve the right to take actions for your character.
❀ If at all possible, please let me know if something comes up that prevents you from posting.
Questions? Just let me know.

And while we’re at it, let’s check our APL so I can ready the correct sub-tier.
Andor Katsu, swash-empiricist 5
Kala, hunter 3 or 4
Korum, practical paladin 3
Lady Vulpina, swash-slinger 4
Loam Yin, arcane spellslinger 3
Sleeping Sword, mainly monk 4
I’m not sure if Kala hit level 4 after her last game. I will perform the calc assuming both 3 and 4.
With Kala at L3, sub-tier calculator: 5 + 3 + 3 + 4 + 3 + 4 = 22/6 = 3.67
The nearest whole number to 3.67 is 4, which is firmly in low tier with no adjustment.
With Kala at L4, sub-tier calculator: 5 + 4 + 3 + 4 + 3 + 4 = 23/6 = 3.83
Ditto, basically ;)
⛪ ⚽
With it being Sunday morning in much of the US, and... UGH! Let’s not mention Villa’s weekend … I won’t get us started in Gameplay for another 12-24 hours.
In the meantime, feel free to ninja dot gameplay and supply the usual PFS info if you haven’t already:
Player name
Character name
PFS number
Faction
Progression speed
Day job roll
Sleeping Sword |
Sleeping Sword's last adventure was with Kala and Stinky :) But unlike them he's been, well, sleeping since then.

Kala is level 3 for this scenario. She'll be happy to see Sleeping Sword again.
Pai sends her very brightest "HI!" to Lady Vulpina and Loam.
Loam Yin |
New character info:
Player Name: Crunch
Character Name: Loam Yin
PFS Number: 150618-3
Faction: Liberty's Edge
Progression: Normal
Day Job: Alchemy, Crafter's Fortune: 1d20 + 11 + 5 ⇒ (17) + 11 + 5 = 33 or I can keep the prior roll of 5 for 21

Most of the Faction Missions for this scenario are very kinda … meh. Also, being Season 4, there aren’t any faction-specific Chronicle boons for helping to progress your faction’s storyline.
However, at least one faction mission does provide some useful background info for the party (and I ♡ factions), so I have decided to provide Faction Missions for our Edgy Libertarian and Sovereign Courtier.
Please note, there is ABSOLUTELY NO OBLIGATION TO ACTUALLY DO THE FACTION MISSIONS, in order to obtain the full Fame + Prestige awards for this scenario.
Questions? Ask me here or send me a PM.
PS: I plan to kick the game off inside the next 12 hours.
Korum of the Silver-Eyed Wolf |
Player name: TriShadow
Character name: Korum of the Silver-Eyed Wolf
PFS number: 151777-7
Faction: The Sovereign-est of Courts
Progression speed: Normal
Day job roll: Diplomacy (Caravan): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 10
Andor Katsu |
Works for me!
Lady Vulpina |
You're the only GM I've ever worked with that bothered with Faction Missions and I thank you for it so much :D they're very fun!
Sleeping Sword |
Sleeping Sword is partially inspired by a character I saw in an old wu xia film. I cannot remember the name of the film, nor the character, nor can I find it online. But the fighting style can be seen here in another wu xia film clip.
I'm still trying to work out how to cram Monkey Style into the build :o
Korum of the Silver-Eyed Wolf |
“Once you’ve found the guilty party, you can have them quietly done away with …” She catches Korum’s eye. “Or brought to me in chains if you prefer, but I must have proof that you have found the right party.”
I am disappointed how inconsistent Heidmarch is portrayed scenario to scenario. While usually operating with a strong moral codes, at times she has an 'agent first' mentality. The worst is in one of the specials where she pretty much sends the Pathfinders in to essentially slaughter/murder another group. I was playing another paladin at the time and really struggled to roleplay that. In the end, the healing paly decided that he would defend himself and the team, but would not raise a sword first.
It sucks because I really like the Heidmarch character, but different authors write with separate lenses I suppose.
To be clear YiM, this has nothing to do with your portrayal. This is a SHAW issue (Sheila Heidmarch as written), box text to box text.
Sleeping Sword |
Sheila is notorious for sending pathfinders to do bad stuff. Not every mission, but often enough. That Special is particularly dodgy.
Sleeping Sword |
If it's not too late GM, I'd like to make a Prestige purchase via the Heidmarch Lodge. 2PP for a potion of remove blindness/deafness.

Question for Kala.
I was going through my tokens for another game and came across a honey badger token. Would you prefer this to represent Stinky or are you OK with his existing portrait token?
I’m good either way, just thought I'd offer a choice :)
Kala, daughter of Krokum |

Thanks for offering. I think the existing token fits better on the maps, so I'll stick with it.
Sleeping Sword |
Yup, Sleeping Sword's aphorisms are a mixture of Sun Tzu and Confucius. Occasionally I invent my own :)

Well Sleeping Sword is doing *great* at reading intentions so far :o
Silly old monk needs more Sense Motive. Or maybe his player does ;)
Lady Vulpina |
It's a Sheila Heidmarch adventure, we can be forgiven for expecting the worst.
She's the one everyone's scared of, right? I seem to recall reading that somewhere...

If I can ready to fire after V moves and before Andor comes out of delay, here's Burning Hands.
Unfortunately, Andor had already posted before you Loam, which brings him out of delay before you.
However, I have added a 'yellow, dashed box' to the Map in case you were unaware you could stand in those squares (under the eaves).
You could affect a burning hands spell from those squares, though of course Loam would also be closer to the swarm.
If that doesn't appeal, you may redo your full round of actions.
Kala, daughter of Krokum |
Kala has two alchemist's fires that she can use/share on her next turn.

Of course GM. You are right. 10 too much in there. :-)

“Can someone detect magic here please!“ he whispers.
@GM Yours is Mined: Would that whisper have traveled far enough to reach Kala out in the main hall? Depends on the acoustics, I would think.
Yours is mined |
Andor is reasonably close to Kala and hearing the details of a whispered conversation is a DC 15 perception check.
Kala has a +10 to perception.
I think it's reasonable she would be listening passively to what's going on in her surroundings, especially things involving her companions (ie. taking 10)
10 + 10 = 20>15, so I would say yes.
Yours is mined |
Just to check my description of the detect magic effect in Gameplay, I've placed the most favorable (to the PCs) 30' cone on the map from Kala's position.
(I realize detect magic is a 60' cone, but I think the 30' works for our purposes - and would be more/equally advantageous for the PCs)
It's doubtful that the cone would go through the pane-less window given Kala's position, and so I'm going to say it doesn't.
Sleeping Sword is blocked from line of sight to those in the observation room, and Korum carries almost no magic.
However, Andor carries heaps of magic and is standing right in front of the window.
Yours is mined |
Is this window raised above the chamber with people inside? I thought so, but now I'm not seeing any evidence to that. If it is...
Loam, you’re right.
The 'workshop room' ceilings are 30’ high, so the bottom of the 3’ wide window is approximately 20’ above the 'workshop' floor.
It is possible to enter the Workshop Room through the window (by squeezing), but you would obviously have to deal with the drop, as well as the reactions of the people in the room.
Yours is mined |
Andor, you can’t 5’ step around a hard corner, so it would be a move action to get to the position your token is in on the map.
Also, I don’t believe you can draw an extract as part of a move action with a +1 BAB, because it is not a weapon.
(If there is a FAQ about this, I would be happy to take a look at it)
So closing the door and a single movement ends your turn.
However, because you were not aware of this, you may redo your actions this round if you like.
Lady Vulpina |
I think you're in the wrong here, GM:
Alchemist: What kind of action is it to use an extract, mutagen, or throw a bomb?
It is a standard action to use an extract, mutagen, or throw a bomb. This action includes retrieving the necessary materials from the alchemist's supplies, in the same manner as retrieving a material component is included in the act of spellcasting.
Drawing an extract is practically in the "Not An Action" category (like drawing an arrow).
Andor Katsu |
Andor just closes the door then! :-)
Sleeping Sword |
Sleeping Sword's tactical analysis may differ from Andor's or Lady V's, but rest assured that he is no murderhobo. He is only thinking about drinking everyone's ki.
"To win without fighting is best."
