PFS 2 GM ZD |
Each attempt to disable the hazard is an action. So, you can attempt to disable the ritual multiple town.
Bubba and Broch manage to contain part of the flaw. Emdi comes up short.
Masigonde tries to snap Tavvar out of it, but he doesn't get a response.
As the PC's try to contain the ritual, a pules of negative energy rushes through the room. The assistants and Tavvar take the full brunt of the negative energy. Bubba and Broch take 9 damage from the negative energy and Emdi takes 4.
With the pulse of negative energy, a shadowy wisp appears from the rift. it floats toward Bubba and extends a shadowy tendril. It tries to then attach itself to Bubba's shadow, but fails. Bubba takes 2 neg energy damage.

Bubba growls out an orcish curse and casts magic weapon upon his falchion.
Two actions to cast magic weapon
He then takes a mighty swing at the shadowy wisp.
Third action to attack
To Hit: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (3) + 6 = 9

Emdi will use his Glimpse of Redemption reaction as soon as anyone gets hit by the wisp.
"You don't have to go back to the Shadow Plane, but if you stay here you can't be hurting people!"
Broch |
Broch will use one of the Heal Scrolls received from Pathfinder Training in the 3 action version, targeting all living and undead creatures in a 30 ft emanation, which I guess means everyone.
Willing living creatures will heal 1d8
Undeads will receive 1d8 damage, with a basic DC17 Fort save
"Back away, foul beast!"
Broch's self healing: 1d8 ⇒ 7
Masigonde |
No, you shouldn't. The cast rolls, and everyone gets what it is. However, given that it is 1 action to retrieve a scroll, that doesn't leave 3 actions for the 3-action cast.
GM: Yes, that is what Masigonde was doing.
Masigonde leaps in front of Tavaar, taking a powerful blow from the wild energies lashing the room. Once the shadow demon appears, he strides across the magic circle to engage it. He raises his hands in mimicry of claws and releases a loud hoot as he strikes at the shadow.

Imiriax |
Imiriax tries to understand what he is seeing and to interfere with the ritual.
PFS 2 GM ZD |
Shandra fails to disrupt the ritual and Bubba misses the wisp completely.
Emdi pierces the wisp right in the soft spot. deadly: 1d10 ⇒ 1
Masigonde moves in and delivers a deadly tiger slash to the wisp. It disperses into the air and gets sucked back into the rift.
Imiriax recalls that these are shadow wisp. They are tiny undead. Weak to fire and light, also light weakness. Immune to death effect, disease, paralyzed, poison, unconscious. If they hit you with its shadowy tendril, it can enter you shadow and then stretch it.
Imiriax is able to point out to of the flaws in the ritual. As he corrects them, the swirling energy comes to a stop. Each of the rifts begin to close.
Tavvar is able to bring the failed ritual to a close.

Tavvar looks at the mess that the ritual has made and frowns. "Thanks for the help. It kind of got out of hand"
Emdi Emmay |
"Shadowtongue is not to be trifled with. What were you trying to do?"
PFS 2 GM ZD |
"A ritual obviously. Trying to connect the plane of shadow with this one. I must have had some flaws" Tavvar answers sheepishly.
Emdi Emmay |
"Well, such things are better attempted in controlled environments. We have people in the Pathfindr Society who could help you ..."
Bubba Payne |
Bubba does not relax immediately but looks about the room for a couple of seconds before resheathing his weapon.
He tries a couple of different chords with his harmonica, looking for a start to "Mama, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Wizards!," which he reckons will be his next composition.
For the moment, he's happy to let the "experts" talk this out while keeping an eye open for any new rifts to hostile planes of existence.
PFS 2 GM ZD |
"Well, we have been trying it for a bit now. This is the first time something has actually happened." Tavvar says shrugging her shoulders. She then points to a book, bound in human flesh. "From that book right there."
"I do not see why you could not have a copy of it. I will have one of my assistants scribe you a copy. It should take a day or two."
Bubba Payne |
Noticing the material out of which the book's cover has been made, Bubba frowns, seems to concentrate for a second, and mutters ...
"The first thing to remember .... , no. The second, the third ..."
Then more loudly ...
"Aha! My big's sister fourth rule of adventuring, if it's bound with human flesh, Don't Read It!"
PFS 2 GM ZD |
"Shadow demons? No that was not the intent. I was trying to create partially real shadow illusion manifestations from people, places and things."
This "quest" has ended. Will move us forward shortley

Next up, the Haunted Mansion
The agents leave the Blakros Muesem, with the promise of Tavvar delivering a copy of the text when it is complete, and make their way to the Precipice Quarter. The begins to ask around the area about The Mavedarus estate and its previous occupants.
Those of who wish to do so. Give me a secret Gather Information Check (Diplomacy)
Bubba Payne |
Happily leaving behind museums, shadow demons, and books bound with human flesh, Bubba chats with the good citizens of Absalom as the party strolls over to the Precipice Quarters.
Shandra Redclaw |
After the haunted museum, the haunted mansion... may be joining the Pathfinders wasn't such a good idea.
Shandra tries to ask people of the Precipice Quarter about the place
Emdi Emmay |
Imiriax |
Imiriax knows his limitations. He stands aside and tries not to get in the way of the more social Pathfinders.
Emdi Emmay |
Emdi will Lay on Hands himself and then rrave in an alley to Refocus.
Bubba Payne |
In between chatting up the locals, Bubba remarks.
It is only a flesh wound, but it's on my harmonica hand.
Would like to get a little healing before going into the haunted house.
Broch |
Let's see if Emdi is a better patient.
It takes 10 minutes for each Treat Wounds attempt.. GM: can I go on treating the others or should I wait until something else happens to move the time forward?
Treat Wounds on Emdi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (13) + 7 = 20
Healing for:: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 7) = 15
PFS 2 GM ZD |
It takes two hours to gather information, so you would have had plenty of time to attempt first aide again.
Bubba hears that the previous owners were crime lords who used to dispose of bodies in the ground below the house.
Shandra hears that they also were slavers who stored their merchandise on location.
At the mansion
This old home might have once commanded the respect and envy of its neighbors, but the remaining story is cracked and crumbling. Whatever upper stories it might have once had have long collapsed, scattering stone and debris across gardens grown wild and weedy. Two curving staircases lead to a broad veranda bereft of its railings. Two openings that might have once been doors lead into the faint remnants of a solarium, while two more doors lead further into the creaking house itself. A whiff of rot and decay seeps from the structure.
Heading inside
The tiled floor, ornate columns, and sweeping staircases of this once-grant hall evoke a distinctly Taldan aesthetic, though the finery has suffered greatly over the past years. The marble floor tiles are cracked and filthy, and the statuary lining the walls has been smashed. None of the three staircases climbs beyond head level before ending abruptly, debris from their fallen upper reaches scattered across the floor.
Before moving on, what exploration activity is everyone using?
Bubba Payne |
"Many thanks Master Broch."
Bubba passes on what he's learned to the others.
"Murderous crooks, and lazy ones at that. Couldn't be bothered to bury the bodies elsewhere."
Bubba will search while in exploration mode.
Broch |
Since we have time I'll attempt to cure everyone that needs healing
"Masigonde, let me take a look at that wound. Even if minor you never know what can happen."
Treat Wounds on Masigonde: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (2) + 7 = 9
"Maybe I should try to fix my wounds before tendings to others"
Treat Wounds on myself: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
Starting the second hour of healing
"Still some wounds to heal, let me continue the work here."
Treat Wounds on Bubba again: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (19) + 7 = 26

Treat Wounds on Masigonde again: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13

Treat Wounds on myself again: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (9) + 7 = 16
Healing myself: 2d8 ⇒ (8, 7) = 15
Shandra Redclaw |
@Broch Bubba's healing is a crit ;) so you can add 2d8 to his healing!
Shandra is looking for secret passages that could lead to hidden goods.
I'm not sure we will find goods things here...
Shandra has her two sabers out.
Imiriax |
Imiriax will be using detect magic continuously.
"Abasalom is huge and its constabulary quiet small," notes the mage, alert for anything out of the ordinary.
PFS 2 GM ZD |
Will keep us on train tracks for now, easiest way to get through this dungeon crawl portion
Drawing Room
Everything this room once held now lies jumbled over the floor in a soggy mess: torn pages, scraps of fabric, and splintered remnants of furniture. Doors hang askew in the north and east walls, but the door to the south has been smashed from its hinges.
Masigonder: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
Shandra: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (8) + 6 = 14
Broch: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (1) + 7 = 8
Bubba: 1d20 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 5 + 2 = 20
Bubba manages to find a hidden compartment in the wall behind a collapsed bookcase. It contains a stack of notes containing the names of several businesses that were operational fronts for organized crime.
Imiriax locates a potion of some kind in an overturned desk. It is a vial of ruby red liquid.

Bubba Payne |
"Were" or "are" "operational fronts...?" Is this currently useful information or only of historical value? Or can we even tell?
"Interesting stuff here, smuggling pesh inside holy symbols of Iomeadae. Oh that will make her clerics cranky!"
Emdi Emmay |
This layout looks familiar to Emdi.
"CHOP CHOP SQUAD!" he instinctively yells. He runs to the closest door and throws it open.
PFS 2 GM ZD |
"Were" operational fronts. Long time ago
On to the next
Ivy has overgrown the empty window frame, casting this room into cool shadow. A low shelf, its wood warped and cracked, stands against the south wall, and a desk has been overturned and smashed in the eastern part of the room.
Just before Emdi pushes ahead, Bubba hears whispers coming from the room. He hears voices begging and pleading forgiveness for betraying the family.
Bubba realizes to be a haunt.
Need a Trained Religion check to exorcise the haunt or Trained Performance to drown out the whispers. Or you can just avoid this room since it does not lead anywhere.
