Yep! Just finished the enemy's ship's actions.
Statuses
Range = 1 * 10"
Ship's status :
+2 Gunner bonus (next round)
Soak 1 incoming Wound
+4 to be hit (RATN = 8)
+2 to Toughness
Enemy status :
-2 Piloting
+2 Boost Gunner
+2 to be hit (RATN = 6)
+4 to Toughness
2 Bennies
RATN is a spec that I invented, for when someone has a positive bonus to being hit by ranged attacks. RATN = Ranged Attack Target Number, which is usually 4, but changes when the target has a bonus to be hit by ranged attacks. Compare your Gunner roll value vs. the target's RATN to see if you hit.
Belter Blackjack |
That +2 to Gunner is for this round, right?
I'm going to target their reactor, if I can. If not, I'll got for the engines.
Gunner (Heat Ray, Designated Target, Going after a subsystem) v. Reactor: 1d8 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 4 = 51d6 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (4) + 2 - 4 = 2 *5* That's a miss.
A sharp, violent, vile curse comes from the gunner's station as the shot bounces off the shields.
Kara "Imagine" Luthor |
"Y'know if you're just gonna keep pooping on all my awesome target-lockingness by always trying to give their forward nacelle a french vasectomy, Imma just try to mess with their locking instead.
I need job satisfaction too you know!"

That +2 to Gunner is for this round, right?
Yes. Sorry, posting the Statuses in the announcement for the beginning of the next round was confusing, but it was on a new page so I was trying to keep you from having to flip back and forth between pages.
The enemy ship tries to avoid the Spoofing :
Sensors & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 3
My house rule on ties on opposed rolls is that the *instigator* wins, so Kara succeeds.
Bryce shouts "I can also help Belter with his shots, if I've got nothing better to do, which for the moment I don't!"
Erebasto - you're up!
Statuses
Range = 1 * 10"
Ship's status :

"Please and thank you," Belter says, his normal bluster gone with Kara's jabbing words.
ZenFox42 |
The enemy pilot tries to out-maneuver Erebasto :
Piloting & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 3 = 9
And manages to avoid Erebasto's attempted line-up.
Erebasto - the +2 to Gunner is only for Gunner rolls. Since you're using your Piloting for a Piloting maneuver, it doesn't apply.
Bryce says "Ok, I'm helping out Gunner!
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 71d6 ⇒ 1 = +1 to Gunner next round
======================================================================
The enemy pilot tries to help his Gunner :
Piloting & Wild: 1d8 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 11d6 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3 = no effect
Ops tries to Designate a target for the Gunner :
Ops & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 2 = +2 to Gunner next round
The Engineer tries to help his Gunner :
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 10, +2 to Gunner next round
The Gunner takes his shot :
Gunner & Wild, -2: 1d8 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 31d6 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3 = miss
Statuses
Range = 1 * 10"
Ship's status :

Gunner (Heat Ray, Boost From engineering, Targeting subsystem): 1d8 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 1 - 4 = -11d6 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 1 - 4 = 0 Miss
Belter goes very silent and fumes as his shot goes way wide.
Kara "Imagine" Luthor |
"Hey guys, is this whole 'fight for our lives things' getting kinda boring? Everyone just taking nappie naps now?"
Kara keeps trying to save the ship, doing everything herself.
As usual.

ZenFox42 |
Sorry for dropping out for a few days, I got involved in a personal project...
The enemy's Ops tries to avoid the Spoofing :
Sensors: 1d8 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 4
So, -2 to Gunner roll next round.
========================================================================
Bryce tries to help out Belter :
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 1 = Failure
========================================================================
The enemy pilot tries to help the Gunner :
Piloting & Wild, -2: 1d8 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 31d6 - 2 ⇒ (5) - 2 = 3 = Failure
Ops tries to help the Gunner :
Sensors & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 81d6 ⇒ 2
Sensors ACE!: 1d8 ⇒ 4 = 12, so +2 Gunner next round
Engineering tries to help the Gunner :
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE! ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 5 = 17, so +3 Gunner next round
The Gunner takes his shot :
Gunner & Wild, +4: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 51d6 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9 vs. RATN=8 is a Success (Shaken)
Erabasto - make a Piloting roll or go Out-of-Control (roll 2d6)
Statuses
Range = 1 * 10"
Ship's status :
Soak 1 incoming Wound
+4 to be hit (RATN = 8)
+2 to Toughness
Enemy status :
-2 Piloting
+3 to Gunner next round
-2 Spoofing to Gunner next round
+2 to be hit (RATN = 6)
+4 to Toughness
2 Bennies

Not too bad, just a -2 to your next Piloting roll. But that doesn't matter, because...
Ok, so I'm "rebooting", which is to say that all current modifiers to both ships goes away, and only +2 Toughness Shield Pods are available.
While we're at it, the Shield skill is renamed to Ops, and "Ping/Designate Target" is renamed to "Lock on Target" (sounds much more like sci-fi TV shows and movies).
Everyone gets back their Bennies. The current Status is :
Statuses
Range = 3 * 10" (so Graviton Beam is -0 for Range, Heat Ray is -2, Ray Gun is -0)
Ship's status :
Enemy status :
3 Bennies
We can use the last Initiative above, so everyone post their actions!
Belter Blackjack |
Belter goes for the engines.
Gunner (Ray Gun, Targeting subsystem): 1d8 - 4 ⇒ (8) - 4 = 41d6 - 4 ⇒ (3) - 4 = -1
ACE!: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
That's an *11* to hit 'em! That's a raise, isn't it?
Damage(Ray Gun, Raise): 2d6 + 1d3 ⇒ (5, 6) + (2) = 13
Damage ACE!: 1d6 + 13 ⇒ (4) + 13 = 17
And that's *17* damage.
ZenFox42 |
Erabasto, I think you meant "Line up a Shot". The other pilot tries to avoid it :
Piloting & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 5
So Erabasto, you can fire the Fixed Weapon next round with no penalty.
Belter, why did you use a d3 for the Raise damage? It should be d6. I'm going to add 2, for a total of 19 damage.
The other ship takes a Wound.
The other pilot rolls to not go Out of Control :
Piloting & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 1 = 7, Success
Critical Hit: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4 = Thrusters
Piloting rolls incur a penalty equal to the number of Wounds.
Kara?
Statuses
Range = 3 * 10" (so Graviton Beam is -0 for Range, Heat Ray is -2, Ray Gun is -0)
Ship's status :
Fixed weapon, no penalty, next round
Enemy status :
Piloting -1 (until Wound is removed)
1 Wound (Thrusters)
3 Bennies
Belter Blackjack |
that was a typo.
Kara "Imagine" Luthor |
Apologies. Been working 14 hour days this week. Had a light day today, only 5 hours, so I'm just getting caught up now.
"They're powering up weapons captain! I'll lock on!"
Sensors Lock!: 1d8 ⇒ 5
WILD Sensors lock!: 1d6 ⇒ 2
ZenFox42 |
Bryce says "I'm powering up the shields!"
Ops & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 71d6 ⇒ 5
So +2 Toughness.
The pilot of the other ship tries to get closer, so that his Gunner can fire the heavier weapon without a penalty :
Piloting & Wild, -1: 1d8 - 1 ⇒ (6) - 1 = 51d6 - 1 ⇒ (5) - 1 = 4
So RI = 2, and the Heat Ray has no penalties.
The Ops tries to Lock on :
Ops & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 1
But he fumbles at the switches, and shorts out the sensors. He'll have to make an Ops roll next round to repair the damage (NEW RULE).
The Gunner takes his shot :
Gunner & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 10, a Raise
Doing
Damage + Raise: 2d8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8, 8) + (3) = 19
Damage & Damage ACE!: 2d8 ⇒ (4, 6) = 10 = 29, 3 Wounds --> 2 Wounds (cap)
If the Wounds take effect :
Critical Hit: 2d6 ⇒ (5, 1) = 6 = hull hit, no special effects
The Engineer tries to fix the damage to the Thrusters :
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 81d6 ⇒ 3
Engineering ACE!: 1d8 ⇒ 1
And the Wound is removed.
Statuses
Range = 2 * 10" (so no penalties to any weapons)
Ship's status :
Fixed weapon, no penalty, next round
2 Wounds (maybe)
+2 Toughness
Enemy status :
Ops is off-line
3 Bennies

Round 2!
Your ship : 4C
Enemy ship : 3D
Everyone's up!
Erabasto - I'd strongly suggest you spend a Benny to use Ace to Soak those Wounds before they take effect (Piloting roll - 0)! If any Wounds are left over after you try, make a (Piloting roll - #Wounds) or go Out-of-Control. If you do go Out-of-Control, your main Piloting roll will be at (-#Wounds - 2).
Erebasto Geta |
Seeing trouble beaming in, Erebasto retorts as he desperately tries to keep the ship intact with his moves:
"Oh no you don't!"
Spend Bennie for a soak attempt using Piloting. Bennies: 2/3
Piloting to soak: 1d8 ⇒ 81d6 ⇒ 3
Piloting Ace!: 1d8 ⇒ 2
*10* - Success with a raise! So no wounds I believe!
"Let's see how you like it back!"
Piloting to fire graviton beam, thanks to line up a shot last turn: 1d8 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 1
*6* - Success!
Damage: 3d8 ⇒ (8, 2, 5) = 15
Belter Blackjack |
Okay, so Kara rolled to get a sensor lock and looks like she succeeded. That's a +2 to gunner rolls, right?
Gunner(Heat Ray, Locked on, MAP): 1d8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 - 2 = 51d6 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 - 2 = 3 *5*
Damage: 2d8 ⇒ (5, 2) = 7 *7* Damage!
Gunner(Ray Gun, Locked on, MAP): 1d8 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 - 2 = 61d6 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 - 2 = 1 *6*
Damage: 2d6 ⇒ (6, 2) = 8
Damge(Ace): 8 + 1d6 ⇒ 8 + (1) = 9 *9* Damage!
Taking advantage of Kara's lock, Belter Blackjack swivels the guns about to line up on the ship and hammer away at it. Beams of searing energy spew forth and strike the ship, though not doing as much as Erebasto's shot.
"Great job Cornball! Now keep on 'em! can't let these Feddy Toadies get the better o' us!"
ZenFox42 |
Okay, so Kara rolled to get a sensor lock and looks like she succeeded. That's a +2 to gunner rolls, right?
Oops, I missed that in the Summary. You're correct.
Erabasto's shot Shakens the ship, so the pilot must roll to stay in control :
Piloting & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 2
Out of Control: 2d6 ⇒ (1, 4) = 5 So -2 to Piloting this round.
Belter's shots, while they hit the ship, don't penetrate its hull.
Kara?

ZenFox42 |
Bryce says "I'm going to try and help out Belter!"
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 61d6 ⇒ 4 So +1 to his Gunner next round.
The enemy ship's Ops tries to counter the Spoof :
Ops & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 1
In case of a contested tie, the winner is the instigator, so -2 to Gunner next round.
The enemy pilot tries to help out the Gunner :
Piloting & Wild, -2: 1d8 - 2 ⇒ (8) - 2 = 61d6 - 2 ⇒ (3) - 2 = 1
Piloting ACE!: 1d8 ⇒ 8
Piloting ACE! ACE!: 1d8 ⇒ 2 = 16, so +3 to Gunner next round
Ops tries to fix his station :
Ops & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 41d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 2 = 8 so Ops is on-line
The Gunner takes his shot :
Gunner & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 3 And misses wildly
The Engineer tries to get the Shields on-line :
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 31d6 ⇒ 1 And fails
Statuses
Range = 2 * 10" (so no penalties to any weapons)

Gunner (Ray Gun, Engi's Special Sauce, MAP): 1d8 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 - 2 = 41d6 + 1 - 2 ⇒ (5) + 1 - 2 = 4 *4* again?

The enemy Ops tries to counter Kara's Spoof :

The pilot tries to assist the gunner :
Piloting & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 11d6 ⇒ 6
Wild ACE!: 1d6 ⇒ 4 = 10, so +2 to Gunner
Ops tries to Spoof Kara back :

Engineering tries to raise their Shields :
Engineering & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 81d6 ⇒ 4
Engineering ACE!: 1d8 ⇒ 7 = 15, so +2 to Toughness

Gunner & Wild ACE!: 1d8 ⇒ 21d6 ⇒ 4 = 11, either way

Erabasto - I'm not sure if you rolled 2 d6's on the damage because of the 2 Raises, or because the first d6 rolled a 6. You only get 1 extra d6 on the Damage regardless of the number of Raises you got on the attack roll, but that d6 *can* Ace as usual. Also, your first d8 Aced, but it doesn't matter that you didn't re-roll it because of the 2 Wound cap.
Kara - I had updated my master document to change the -4 back to a -2, since in most cases the enemy opposer would be an Extra, and so a -2 was more reasonable. Then I referred to that document for this game, and used the -2. Yes, for this game, it's -4.
The enemy Ops tries to counter the spoof :
Ops & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 51d6 ⇒ 3 So -4 to Gunner next round
The enemy ship takes 2 Wounds (capped). The pilot spends a Bennie to use his Ace to Soak the Wounds :
Piloting & Wild: 1d8 ⇒ 81d6 ⇒ 4
Piloting ACE!: 1d8 ⇒ 4 = 12 So all Wounds are Soaked

Belter's second shot "Shakens" the ship (not really), forcing the Pilot to make a Piloting roll or go Out-of-Control :

Since ships can't really get "Shaken" (I just call it that for brevity/convenience), the "Shaken if Shaken causes a Wound" rule doesn't apply here...
