As you leave the so-called Accursed Halls behind and head back to town, the epithet "accursed" seems especially fitting. An entire Pathfinder delve-team lost their lives exploring just one level, and how many others will face the same fate in future missions? But what risk is too high to refuse a chance to uncover the fantastic secrets of an ancient civilization? Such is the dilemma that faces all Pathfinders: discovery and danger in equal measure.
When you reach the Greenforest Inn, you see Venture-Captain Hestram looks flummoxed. "Did you see Rozimus on your way back? The man's simply vanished from his sick bed! I thought maybe he somehow gathered the strength to chase after you, but we can't find him anywhere." After seeing your sombre faces, Hestram realises you likely have bad news to share. He sits down heavily at a table, and Shandar hurries over with a tray containing a bottle of strong liquor and several glasses.
"I was wondering how that was going to play out..." Carina absently said before turning to debrief the Venture-Captain. "The area of the Halls that we entered was under a time-lock: It was there holding several ancient Azlanti within it, along with several constructs. We found a previous version of Rozimus within, but in the course of exploring the halls, he was killed by a magical trap duplicating Phantasmal Killer. His death also shattered the time-lock, degrading everything within immensely, and turning the trapped Azlanti into ghosts, which we had to destroy in order to leave. We also had to destroy the undead remains of 2 of Rozimus's party. We brought back the corpse of the third, as well as Rozimus's body, in case they had the wherewithal to prepare for such an end. The only other thing that we were able to salvage from the site were these..., she says as she sets a bag of the gems onto the table for him to look over. "Almost everything else desiccated to dust and bones."
"I can attest that Lady Villasani's report is a true depiction of these past events. I can co-sign her report as a witness for your records, Venture-Captain. I can also assist with the Next of Kin notifications for the departed agents."
Setare listens and is astounded about all the details provided by Carina.
“Un... unfortunately our co... companions could not be sa... saved. We are so... sorry fo.. for the loss a ... and again more names o.. on the ‘wall of names’!“ she says with a stern look on her face.
Venture-Captain Hestram listens carefully to your report. He looks sombre, but says "Thank you for your dedication, Pathfinders. I know you did everything you could, and no one will doubt your courage or dedication. As you've said, at least we've discovered the fate of our missing agents and can hold a memorial worthy of their sacrifice." He holds up a glass. "To our fallen, in service to lore!"
"To ou.. our fallen!" and takes a small sip.
"May they be guided to their just rewards in the hereafter,"the Harrower adds to the end, before sipping on her own.
"Yes. To our fallen!"
