Outside the container:
I'll give the cargo-bot an AoO on Theo and, then, all of you can have initiative for the round. It will take another swing as its regular attack at the end of the round.

As Theo strides to the door, the cargo-bot swings a giant magnetic clamp at him. Att; Dam+grab: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 81d8 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12.

Nissa could be heard, muffled, through the door, but it would sound like you're in a tin drum and comprehension would be iffy. Ju-t pu- a da-sh -or -ver- thi-d le-tte-

Greer is dead.

Whoever it is talking to L.C. was going to give her one more chance to answer first, and starts to say so before Nissa knocks the laser over. Nissa sees a masked figure on the screen sitting in shadows. Knocking the camera over effectively blinds them. "Ah, I see our time is up." says the woman in the mask.

L.C. sees Nissa and says, "N- Ni- Ni- ... It's you!"

Regarding Nissa's knowledge of the cargo-bot, it depends how cautious she was being. Did she go straight through the wall or scope out the container first?

Come to think of it, probably not cautious at all. Her emotions are out of whack between killing four men and fearing for L.C.

She shuts off the camera, hoping that deafens Ms. Gray to what is happening.

If the masked woman is no longer on-screen, Nissa rushes over to L.C. and starts undoing the ropes. Hers first, then Moore’s.

If Ms. Gray is onscreen…?

Assuming the bombs are the size of digital clocks, this should work…

Nissa sees the bombs.

“I love you, L.C. And if my powers can only save me or only save you, it’s an easy choice.”

Nissa considers how a gun in hand simply goes away with all her clothes when she changes forms. She doesn’t know where they go. They just do. And when she changes back, the guns are still in hand.

So she grabs both bombs—one in each hand—and becomes a mote, knowing the bombs will be gone, and therefore harmless, until she changes back. Then they will be gripped in her hands the moment she reverts to her normal self.

GM call: are the bombs going to explode in some pocket dimension, destroying all of Nissa’s gear? Or, will the bombs be in a state of suspended animation, meaning when she turns back they are about to blow?

I don’t know what I can do while remaining in this form, but as long as I have the wings you’ve given me, I’ll find a way to help save our world from FATE.

Nissa already has an idea, but she’ll need to see Greer gets a proper funeral.

Assuming my powers work as I believe they do, meaning the bombs don’t go off when I touch them because of the immediate transformation/melding, I want to try to get in touch with that psychic friend of Greer’s.

I have another thought on this — PM sent!

Between Verve's crystal and Charles slashes the cargo-bot falls to pieces quickly. One clamp is still holding Theo tightly, but he will be able to remove it.

When you open the container, Nissa is gone.

Schrodinger's Nissa:
As you said, you do not know where your gear goes when you shrink, but it does reappear when you return to normal size. Until you return to normal size, you cannot communicate with them normally. GM:
Yay, it worked! Buuuuut I think you misunderstood one part of my post.

Nissa shrunk to her mote (fairy-sized) form, not subatomic. She can communicate (and fly) in this state, but she’s too weak for combat.

Two Nissa-posts above, I wrote:

Nissa considers how a gun in hand simply goes away with all her clothes when she changes forms. She doesn’t know where they go. They just do. And when she changes back, the guns are still in hand.

So she grabs both bombs—one in each hand—and becomes a mote, knowing the bombs will be gone, and therefore harmless, until she changes back. Then they will be gripped in her hands the moment she reverts to her normal self.

I didn’t go subatomic because subatomic size doesn’t last long, so that would be unnecessarily suicidal when mote form can rid the bombs as long as Nissa doesn’t become human (I mean halfling).

1 person marked this as a favorite.

With the screen dark and the camera off, fairy-sized Nissa is the only thing lighting the inside of the container now.

Dr. Moore, who appears heavily drugged, rouses a little and lets out a little scream when he sees your silhouettes at the entrance, then realizes it is you, and his fear diminishes slightly.

What you see:
• L.C. Preston - alive, no gag, tied to chair with ropes partially undone
• Moore - alive, gagged, tied to chair
• Col. Greer - dead, tied to chair, toppled
• Tripod with laser rifle - toppled, fired once
• Tripod with camera - toppled, turned off
• Screen - turned off

Nissa flutters up from behind L.C. She points out the toppled tripods. One has a laser rifle attached; the other, a camera.

She says to the others, “Please untie L.C. and Moore. I was in the middle of removing the ropes, but two bombs were activated. I… came up with a way to get rid of them.”

Her voice is quite shaken. She doesn’t explain where the bombs are. But there are no bombs on the chairs now.

There is a third chair, tipped over on the floor. It’s Colonel Greer.

Nissa’s voice cracks when she finally gets the words out. “She killed him. It was Ms. Gray on that screen.” Nissa points out the screen, which is currently turned off. “She killed Colonel Greer.”

As upset as she is, she warns her friends, “Please get L.C. and Moore out before you attempt to move Greer’s body. And please get them on the bus immediately—before Ms. Grey has time to realize her bombs did not explode.”

Ah, yes, thanks. I always assume everyone reads under the spoilers anyhow, but I should have given the description.

The three chairs were set up at one end of the container with a screen, camera, and weapon facing them. Col. Greer's chair is tipped over. He has a laser burn on the side of his head. Dr. Moore is semi-conscious. L.C. Preston is about to scream with frustration and relief. The screen and camera are now off.

“I thought of that. I was undoing the ropes, and Ms. Gray snapped her fingers and—in L.C.’s chair I saw lights flash. Moore’s too. A bomb in each chair. And I’m the Bombshell, well, ain’t I?” She lets out a nervous laugh. She doesn’t find this funny at all.

“What’s a Bombshell do but contain bombs? The idea just popped in my head!—reach out, grab both bombs, and change!

“So the bombs are gone… and should I become my old self again, I’ll have a bomb in each hand.”

This would be an easy job for Easily Ignorable Girl....oh, wait, we left her back there, didn't we?"

Nissa replies, “Well… the bombs wouldn’t explode in my hands, in that case. My gear would be blown to bits and… I don’t know if that would affect my body. Maybe. Maybe the matter that re-forms me or whatever is…”

She decides not to dwell.

“It was all so fast—everything! Greer was lying dead like that, I stopped Ms. Gray from killing Moore, and then that bomb just lit up, right in front of my eyes. I don’t know if there was a timer, or if L.C. getting off the chair would detonate it, or if it was going to explode in the next second.

“I just knew my powers could do one of two things: get me through the wall or make the bombs disappear. Save myself or L.C.” She places her tiny hands on L.C.’s thumb. “I didn’t need half a second to choose, and if I have to stay like this forever, I will never regret my choice.

“Even if I somehow find out there was time to get you and Moore away from the bombs, hindsight doesn’t change a thing. I wasn’t going to gamble with your life, even if that means altering or ending mine.”

Assuming L.C. and Moore are untied and safely out of the container…

Nissa meekly asks Charles, “Can you release Greer too? I… I didn’t check for a pulse. I think he’s… but we should make sure.”

Nissa wants nothing more than to cling to L.C.’s hand, but she is a light source. If Charles can examine Greer to determine whether he’s dead or dying, Nissa will light the area.

If he’s confirmed dead (which I expect is the case), a visibly upset Nissa will check to see if Greer’s belongings are with him. If apparently not, she’ll ask L.C. what happened to their possessions, and can she contact Greer’s psychic lady friend?

There was no bomb attached to Greer's chair. The chairs were close enough that two blasts would kill all of them anyhow, and they had a laser rifle pointed at Greer.

Greer is indeed dead. Scarlett Meadows can be contacted through the infosphere. She keeps a low profile as she is not that kind psychic, but her information is out there.

They said it would have the 'address'," L.C. pauses, takes a breath, focuses her thoughts, and says, "I think they want to come here. Or, at least, do what you do ... like, jump."

Verve moves belowdecks, looking for any sort of information that would be useful in determining where this ship had been, who owned/rented it, and so on.

Much of the cargo is in containers on the deck. Most of the area below deck is taken up with engines and machinery. Verve finds a below-deck cargo hold though. It's locked Once she busts her way inside, she finds it full of crates originally shipped from half a dozen different tech companies. From the names of the companies, it would seem to be largely computer equipment.

"I'm fine. I will be. But ...," she looks over at Greer's body. "...but those f$~$ers killed Greer."

Nissa says, “I guess our friends prevented Portly from sending that other data.”

She introduces L.C. to the other heroes. “I told you about Flex Luthor before. And if you read that comic, you might remember Enyo and some men chasing us by car. As soon as we get the prisoners back, we have a lot to talk about on the ride home.”

Nissa flies up so she and L.C. can see eye-to-eye.

“For now, I just wanna tell you how proud I am of you. I believe Greer was proud of you too, in his final moments. It’ll make sense when you hear what the men have to say.”

Nissa nods sympathetically when L.C. says ‘those f+!!ers killed.’

“Then I hope you’ll understand… we can’t afford to play nicely with these f$@@ers.”

She then turns to the masked man, and says, “Of the two escaping, we need at least one alive. Please kill one now if it makes it easier to catch the other.”

“Yeah… that’s a good thing,” Nissa says. “There’s still the question of whether their current location is a where or a when.

“The sooner we get back to Portly, the sooner we can get some real answers.”

Nissa knows that her companion’s super-friends are still at Boston Scientific. She hopes nothing goes terribly wrong.

Any manifests or documentation of any kind on the cargo here? Have we found a crew for the ship, or was it the people we dropped in the water?
