There's a hard thud and the door flies open! The crate skids out of the way.
The sound only gets louder, now that it's not being held back.
Although the fellow in red has a move action, he's not about to give up his cover to get himself surrounded before he has a chance to fight back.

GM Nine-Tuiles |
"Big an' slow, ain'tcha?" asks the nimble-looking man as Butch steps in. He holds a dagger in one hand and a slightly longer blade in the other; his voice is a low, drawling affair. "That mask can't be a good idea, either, can it? Be fun showing it to my boss when we're done wit'ya, though. Eyeholes that big, we could probably have two men look out it at once! Like one'a them fairground murals, innit."
GM Nine-Tuiles |
Of course, it's hard to hear him (or for them to hear you) over the shrieking sound of a mushroom in apparent peril.
Cillian Subtiliter |
Moving through Butch's space
Cillian repositions to prevent the Aspis (?) from being to move in to the warehouse proper. He jabs at the leader to keep him back in the room.
Glaive {Reach/Bless}: 1d20 - 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) - 2 + 1 = 8
Yulau |
Yulau moves to under the closest skylight, giving her line of sight if the baddies break through their small room.
Would someone move me right under the skylight, please?
Raimei |
The tengu priestess moves into a spot to hopefully catch the party in the chaotic healing energies of her patron should it be necessary.

Will Save DC 13 vs. Daze: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (7) - 1 = 6
The Aspis folk get ready to hold their position... but the man with the two blades seems distracted, suddenly!
Not sure what to do about him, his fellow reaches a tall, Taldan-style longbow just into view and with a twang, looses an arrow at the biggest target in the room.
Longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Butch, you're Enlarged, which gives you a -1 to your DEX mod and a -1 to AC due to size. That puts you at... exactly a hit. Let me know if there's any math I'm missing! If not...
Longbow Damage: 1d8 ⇒ 5
Butch tries to twist to the side, but her increased size makes her slow. The arrow manages to find a weak spot between the plates of her armor in her thigh, and sticks out at an angle.
The Party is up!
The Pale Butcher |
The Pale Butcher curses under her breath, snapping off the arrow in her thigh to get it out of her way, and swings her blade in a low whistling arc for the swordsman in the doorway!
Falchion (Bless, PA, Enlarge): 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (7) + 8 + 1 - 1 = 15
Slashing: 2d6 + 6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (5, 5) + 6 + 3 + 1 = 20
Raimei |
Did Raimei's readied action go off? Regardless, assume she's getting into position and actively selective channelling this turn. Am on tablet and unable to see map. No healing for Aspis!
GM Nine-Tuiles |
Raimei's readied action would have went off, yeah; Butch took 1 damage instead of 5, more or less!
The massive falchion comes down, but Butch only succeeds in making a chip in the wood of the doorframe!
Always thought it was kinda BS that being dazed doesn't interfere with your AC at all...
Cillian, Dominic, and Bethany are up!
Dominic Radzi |
Dominic steps up, trying to hem the Aspis in if they emerge. He prepares to strike with his scorpion whip.

The investigator jabs at the figure in the doorway.

GM Nine-Tuiles |
The Aspis folks seem to have decided staying in cover is much better than approaching the gigantic masked figure and her bevy of blade-wielding friends-- especially as another one hits the floor between them, courtesy of Cillian.
The more roguish-looking fella snaps out of his trance and, seeing he is quite unprotected, steps behind the wall. He flings a dagger from his covered position--
Dagger Throw: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 3 = 20
Dagger Damage: 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
--where it, like the arrow before, manages to find a weak spot in Butch's armor. The same weak spot, in fact! They're really doing quite well here, considering the circumstances. Pity their buddies have been torn apart by dogs, but that's life.
The fellow with the bow has much the same idea--
Longbow: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
--but is no William Tell. This one goes far too high, above even Butch's elevated head, and rips the cloth covering the skylight before bouncing off the glass and clattering to the floor.
Moved the irrelevants (downed and doggos) from the initiative order to make it easier to keep track!

Butch feels exactly as good as she has ever naturally felt! No more, no less. All things perfectly balanced.
"Can you cut that out, mate? Tryin' to get some work done here," growls the dagger-tosser from the cover of the doorway, who I forgot to mention grabbed a second dagger after throwing the first but I doubt that will change Raimei's action choices, so.
Raimei |
"Paid to die? I'll double your pay to live!" Raimei quips back.
Raimei really doesn't expect them to take up that offer, it's more banter than real meaning behind it at the moment. But who knows?
The Pale Butcher |
"Enough!" The Pale Butcher shoulders into the door frame as she swings for the bowman's head in a lethally practiced blow.
Falchion (Bless, PA, Enlarge, BoG): 1d20 + 8 + 1 - 1 ⇒ (20) + 8 + 1 - 1 = 28

Extra damage: 2d6 + 6 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (6, 4) + 6 + 3 + 1 = 20
GM Nine-Tuiles |
Yeah, he dead.
Butch’s sword cleaves right through the scout’s neck, thoking into the wall. In a grisly bit of comedy, the head balances on her blade before she yanks it out of the wood and sends it tumbling across the room.
Haha, gross.
Dominic Radzi |
Dominic laughs as the Aspis is beheaded. He calls out to the last one. "How was the show on that side of the wall?! Let us know where you want your body mailed. We'll promise to try and find all the parts, but it'll be a small box..."
Demoralize: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21

I think that's everyone!
So, this has been an extraordinarily poor few seconds for our remaining Aspis guy.
On the one hand, his buddy was just killed pretty definitively.
On the other hand, Dominic rubbed it in quite thoroughly, and the warm, then cool sensation in his breeches gives him the shivers.
On yet another hand, that mushroom is still making an infernal racket.
And on the fourth hand of our kasatha, an elf just slipped in, moving and twisting too fast for the man to stick a blade in him, and managed to get a good slice in along the man's middle.
Desperate, he makes a lunge forward...
Cillian and Butch, you both have an AoO.
Grapple: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Gripping Cillian tight, he growls through the doorway:
"Toss your weapons down or I'll gut 'im!"

Slashing: 2d6 + 6 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (1, 2) + 6 + 3 + 1 + (5) = 18 Lol nope :-p
The Butcher takes a carefully measured half-pace back, and her blade catches the Aspis Snake mid-leap!

The Aspis's fingers close around Cillian's throat as he successfully makes it across the doorway!
Both halves of him, even.
His legs slump to the floor.
His hands lose their grip pretty quickly as his eyes roll back in his head, and upper half falls to the ground.
Butch, girl, you nasty.
COMBAT OVER~!
I'll give a lil bit for reactions, then move us forward.
Dominic Radzi |
"One and two becomes three and four!" Dominic chuckles as he walks over. He grimaces and grabs the shrieking mushroom to stuff it in dark crate. Then he goes over to check what is left of the bodies.
Cillian Subtiliter |
Trying to dodge the growing pool of blood, the elf looks a bit shaken. He slipped passed my guard...that dagger. That would have been the end without a doubt.
Cillian steps to the side and empties the contents of his stomach. After taking a moment to compose himself, he nods thankfully toward the vigilante. "You have my gratitude. If there's every anything I can do for you, just name it."
Raimei |
Raimei blinks at the swift action of the enlarged butcher -- living up to her name most vigorously -- and slowly puts away her sword.
"Is anyone hurt and in need of healing?" she offers with a subdued tone.
The Pale Butcher |
The Pale Butcher shifts uncomfortably at Cillian's thanks, her nervous fidgets only magnified by her current stature. "You don't- I'm... You would have done the same for me. Think nothing of it." Gratefully she seizes on Raimei's actions and busies herself with cleaning and inspecting her blade before resheathing it.
GM Nine-Tuiles |
It's another hour or so before, under the cover of night, Delroya appears with a few capable-looking folk; pulling their hoods off as they enter the warehouse, you recognize a half-orc, two kobolds, and a human man who bears an uncanny resemblance to Charlie Cutter from the tale of Uncharted 3, who the GM likes enough to throw in this scenario at the last minute in the background.
Looking around, she smiles. "You have done well," she says, noting the nock on the wall where Butch's blade dug in. "If this is the worst of it, I think the Kortos won't have much to complain about. Excellent."
As she speaks, her folks are already moving toward the elevator... and returning.
"Big dogs, boss. Not a pretty sight," says not-Charlie Cutter from Uncharted 3. "Gonna need those handled before we can start stacking things in the elevator. Boatman's gonna be here 'fore too long and we haven't got all night."
Yulau |
Yulau heads over to try and calm the poochies. She coos at them as she gets close...but not too close. ”Who’s been a good bunch of puppies?”
Handle animals 1d20 ⇒ 4
GM Nine-Tuiles |
Sorry for the quietude, I was kinda hoping someone else was going to try... a 4 ain't great.
GM Nine-Tuiles |
Good news!
Untrained: If you have no ranks in Handle Animal, you can use a Charisma check to handle and push domestic animals, but you can’t teach, rear, or train animals. A druid or ranger with no ranks in Handle Animal can use a Charisma check to handle and push her animal companion, but she can’t teach, rear, or train other nondomestic animals.
This would count as Handling a Domestic Animal.

I'm not gonna look it up, but that seems like it should work. Good job!
While the dogs don't even seem to notice Yulau, Raimei has better luck, and soon the dogs (all with red muzzles) rise up from the fallen Aspis members and are all waggy-tailed and kind of adorable if not for the... grossness.
The ex-Aspis* help you to move the crates and free the canines, and they quickly get to work moving crates to a small, sleek-looking ship. "Excellent. I'll leave a good review with Valsin."
*To be clear, I'm referring to Delroya and her squad, not the men who are now considered "ex-Aspis" because they're also "ex-alive."
I'll be working on your chronicles! Expect those as well as a wrap-up post with Valsin… hopefully tomorrow.
Raimei, remind me if I forget!
GM Nine-Tuiles |
Once you're all set at the warehouse, the lot of you set back for the Sixwing Drake. You find Ambrus ready for you in his cabin, grinning ear to ear.
"You don't look like you have bad news to tell me-- unless The Pale Butcher is hiding a grim face behind the mask, anyway. How did it go?"
