4th of Desnus - Day 26
Day 26 passes without any events of note. Azadi spends more time with Teenan and less with the crew of the Siren. The girl's presence seems to lighten his mood.
The work continues on the Siren around the clock. The barn is filled with torches and lanterns all night long as work crews transform the ship into something entirely new.
Nothing official planned for Day 26. If there's anything you'd like to accomplish in the day's worth of downtime, let me know.
5th of Desnus - Day 27
On this day, the sky is cloudless and the color of iron, promising another scorching day. According to the workers who live here, the Slithering Coast has been suffering under a drought for the last month and it doesn't look like it's breaking any time soon. The jungle wilts under the unrelenting sun, and the river is shallow, murky, and sluggish, with wide swaths of cracked mud exposed along its banks.
To pass the time, some of Rickety’s off-duty workers invite the Siren's officers to join in a game of ninepins in the shade of the boathouse and share a small cask of beer that’s been cooling in the waters of the estuary.
You arrive at the boathouse to find a half-dozen of the locals setting up the game in the shade and another pair pulling on the rope where the keg of beer has been cooling in the water overnight. However, the rope jerks suddenly and one man is pulled into the water with a scream while the woman has the palms of her hands burned bloody where she was holding the line. The screams and thrashing in the water indicate the man who fell into the water 5 feet below is not alone. The water itself is 20 feet deep here.

You see blood spilling into the water and slithering coils of something snake-like as it attacks the worker.
Everyone is up!
No map for this one. You're all approximately 20' from where the worker and creature are in the water and the water is 20' deep there so swim rolls are required - DC 10.

Marisan has been walking along the docks with Valeria when she hears the commotion. The brawler doesn't hesitate, running up to the water and diving in.

Earlier...
Marisan wakes up the next morning still entwined with Valeria. She kisses the other woman's cheek. "Good morning. After breakfast, I will take you to meet Tessa. She is one of the Siren's captains."
Indeed, once their bellies are full of food, the brawler tracks down the swashbuckling co-captain. "Tessa, this is Valeria. She has expressed interest in joining our crew. She says you have met before?"
Valeria Korvin |
***that morning***
"Cap'n Redbush? We go way back..."
***later on, but still before the fight***
Val tugs a little salute to the captain on the corner of her hat, and smiles mischievously.
Marisan Nkosi |
Earlier
Marisan quirks an eyebrow. "You know her? You have... slept with her?"
Valeria Korvin |
still earlier...
"Well... we didn't sleep, no... Not like you and me just did. We met a month or two ago at some backwater port where both our ships happened to be docked. She lost her shirt to me, literally, in a game of cards. It took her a couple of hours but she worked off her debt, sexually, and then she went and slept on her ship and I went and slept on mine. I didn't figure I'd ever see her again until Polli introduced her as one of the cap'ns yesterday."
Noticing the change in Marisan's demeanor, Val asks, "Why, is that a problem? Polli said she was in a relationship with the other cap'n, is she gonna be upset about that?"
Marisan Nkosi |
Earlier, still
Marisan shakes her head. "No problem. Tessa and I are lovers. Tessa and Harmony are lovers. Harmony is pursuing another woman, Sandara, as a lover. Polli slept with Jack, and Azadi slept with both Badger and Samms. Most aboard the Siren are open when it comes to relationships."
She leans close and kisses Valeria. "We are lovers now, yes?"
Valeria Korvin |
also earlier
Val's eyes open a little wider and an enormous grin slowly creeps across her face. "Besmara's titties! You all just take turns sleeping with each other and nobody gets jealous or possessive? If I'm being entirely honestly, it might hurt my feelings a little bit if people don't get at least a tiny bit jealous when I'm with someone else, but this sounds like an arrangement I could maybe get used to..."
She returns Marisan's kiss while gently playing with her hair. "Yes, of course we are," she assures the suddenly insecure warrior. "So, will Tessa join us sometimes, or do we take turns? And, is there anybody I shouldn't sleep with? Do we ever invite men to join us or is that something I should do without you if the craving strikes?"
Marisan Nkosi |
You guessed it, earlier...
"We will have to ask Tessa. Harmony does not want to share me with her, but Tessa may be more open. I do not know if there is anybody you should not sleep with, but some are more shy or uninterested in sex. If somebody catches your eye, speak to them to see how they feel."
She enjoys Val's gentle touches. "I enjoy sleeping with men as well as women. So far none of the men among the crew have impressed me, but if somebody worthwhile comes along, I may be interested in being with him. Either alone or with you, if that is what he desires."
Valeria Korvin |
almost done posting this morning, I think
"Well, it seems once we're under way on the Siren there will be a lot of exploring to do..." Val replies, her mind racing with this revelation, "but there's only one thing I'm interested in exploring before breakfast..." Leaning back down, she begins kissing Marisan again as she slowly drags her fingertips down the brawler's rippling abs and begins 'exploring' the region south of there...
Donomsail Lishoni |
Donomsail looks at the creature and has no idea what it is, her first reaction is purely instinctual."What in the nine Hells is that?!"
Her second has a little more thought behind it."I donna know what it be, but I do know it's gonna be dead right quick." She moves to the edge of the water knowing if this battle goes anything like the ones in their past some people will need healing. Meantime she shoots an ice shard at the creature.

She spends the rest of the evening curled up in Sandara's arms. She doesn't really explain what's going on, just takes comfort in being held and tries not to think too much about home, Louis and her parents.

Earlier ...
After bringing her captain back to her small room at the Common Hall, Sandara is content to hold the woman in her arms as she cries. She whispers soothing nothings as she strokes Harmony's hair.
Later in the evening when the tears have finally stopped, Sandara gives her some privacy to undress in the hot, humid night. Returning once Harmony's under the thin blankets, the red-head joins her in the bed, but stays on top of the covers.
"I want you to understand that even if nothing physical happens between us, I still consider you my friend," Sandara says softly. "And I'll listen to anything you want to talk about." Without another word, she pulls the woman into her arms again to comfort her in her sleep.

Harmony inspires the rest of her crew while Valeria sinks an arrow into the wiry creature. Donomsail attempts a sliver of ice, but the missile goes wide. However, in dodging the icy missile, the creature moves right into the path of Polli's firey one. With a shriek of pain, its scales are singed by the flames.
It turns to Polli, its almost human-like face a mask of fury.

Combat Ends!
You quickly pull the worker out of the slow-moving, muddy current and see to his injuries. With Donomsail's aid, it looks like he'll live another day.
Rickety himself shows up a few minutes later, effusive with thanks for rescuing one of his people. He explains that nagas are not uncommon farther up the river and the community normally coexists peacefully with them. Perhaps the drought is affecting them adversely. He walks away shaking his head, and you get the impression that he's hoping it doesn't escalate.
For rescuing his worker, Rickety cuts 500 gp off the price of squibbing the Siren.
You'll get a couple more days of downtime before anything of note takes place.
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV |
Polli helps Donomsail check on the hurt man and orders woman with the hands burned bloody order to either have the wounds cleaned or the cleric heal them "Not cleaned properly will lead them to be infected and may cause you to lose them." the doctor instructs.
Afterward, she yells out to their berry of a captain "Tessa!" if the other woman stops a moment to talk, Polli presents her with a belt of many delicate black leather strands and an ivory buckle of the wind across the waves. "Donomsail and I combined our magic to make this to help you." her gaze will move to DOnomsail, she'll give the cleric a small but bright smile. Looking back at Tessa, she'll frown realizing she is showing too much "It will loosen your ligaments, make you more agile. A gift as a Thank you for taking on the onerous job of command."
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV |
"Hmmm..." Polli frowns "Speechless, that is odd for you." closing the gap between them, she presses her hand against Tessa's forehead "No fever" then grasps her wrist to count her pulse. "High heart rate, but normal based on your recent activity.""
Slipping her glasses up her nose again, she studies the other woman's eyes for redness "How is your appetite?"
Tessa Steele |
Tessa takes the offered belt, surprised by the offering and awestruck that her crew is already fashioning items for her in their free time. "I apologize, I was at a loss of words for your kindness."
Looking down at the item in her hands, she remarks "Well, this is exquisite Polli. I don't really know how to thank you both. I can't wait to it to use!" She says, putting the item on.
Once she's finishing strapping it on, she does some stretching and tests it out. "Amazing! I feel fantastic in this! I can't wait to show Marisan!"
She steps up to Polli and puts both hands on the sylphs cheeks and presses her lips to the wizard's, holding her there for a five second kiss before pulling away and leaning into her right ear and whispering "Let me know if you would like to see how limber it makes me feel." before placing her teeth on the woman's earlobe and tugging on it gently.
She seeks out Donomsail to give her a thankful kiss as well before heading off to show Marisan.
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV |
Polli's worry about Tessa's health made her drop her guard. Coupled with her magically enhanced reaction speed. The sylph's eyes go wide then close, as the other woman's soft lips press against hers. While not exactly unpleasant, and Tessa's present scent is a delicious mix of sweetness and a light storm, and then there is the...
No, she did not ask or want this attention, so her blue eyes snap back open, simmering in annoyance.
As Tessa goes to leave, the wizard grabs her wrist (which she knows the other woman can break from but hopefully the surprise is enough). "I am not your Plaything, Captian Steele. Not yours, not Marisan's not ANYONE'S. Who I decide to share a moment with is My decision. If you and everybody else cannot respect that, we will start having serious issues with one another." her voice sharp but quiet enough to just be between them.
Tessa Steele |
Tessa frown at Polli's reaction. "I meant no disrespect Polli, I would never force you into anything. I agreed to that when I became your Captain, remember? I was simply offering you the opportunity is all. Please accept my apology for the misunderstanding." she says, taking her tricorn off and holding it against her chest with a sincere expression.
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV |
Polli's frown deepened but in a perplexed and then embarrassed one. (the many frowns of Polli Bog) "I'm sorry... you, them..." her blue eyes look toward Donomsail "...her" the last said with a slight sigh "All of this is just not my... comfort zone." she'll let go of the captain's wrist. giving a nod of respect, she ends firmly "I am glad you liked your gift, and I will endeavour to not be such an ass in the future, Captain."
Tessa Steele |
Tessa nods, putting her hat back on and rubbing her wrist. She nods to the sylph before departing, "Polli, you need not apologize for defending your honor, I misread the situation."
She tips her cap and heads off in search of Marisan who has been missing for far too long.
Valeria Korvin |
After a full day of ‘exploring’ Val asks to Marisan to please go get them food and drinks to restore their vigor. When the Mwangi woman returns she finds the slayer standing next to the bed in her own knee-high leather boots and bodice, but instead of the tight leather pants that normally complete the outfit she wears only a pair of small, silky, black panties taken from the stack of fancy clothes Marisan claimed from Bonewreck Isle.
”Set the tray on the nightstand and take a seat on the bed,” she instructs softly but firmly. As the brawler does so, she continues, ”you will ask me permission before you eat or drink.” Placing her pointer finger under the obedient woman’s chin, she gently tips her face upward and adds, ”you will ask me permission before you touch or kiss.” She lowers her face until Marisan can feel the warmth of her mouth, hovering just out of reach of her own, and says, ”and you will call me ma’am. Do you understand?”
When the dusky warrior answers, ”yes, ma’am,” Val closes the tiny gap between them and kisses her deeply. She spends the rest of the evening telling her powerful lover exactly what to do, how to do it, and when to do it, until they are both fully satisfied and fully spent again.
Still catching her breath, the top-heavy slayer rolls over and finishes the last of her wine. She sighs contentedly and teases, ”I release you, Shujaa*, you are once more free to live and love as you like...”

Valeria Korvin |
While Tessa is looking for Marisan...
...the brawler tracks down the swashbuckling co-captain. "Tessa, this is Valeria. She has expressed interest in joining our crew. She says you have met before?"
Val tugs a little salute to the captain on the corner of her hat, and smiles mischievously.
Tessa Steele |
Tessa was quite occupied when she ran into Valeria a few days ago, but that is not the case now. She had been looking for Marisan since yesterday and had nearly given up hope that she would locate the mwangi woman before it would be time to leave. Running into her and Valeria again was quite a coincidence, wasn't it?
Tessa nods to Marisan "Indeed I have. She swindled me at cards awhile back and put me in a rather ... compromising position. Polli brought her to me a few days back and I okay-ed her joining the crew."
Nodding to Valeria she acknowledges her salute "Valeria." before turning to Marisan "Where have you been? I have been looking for you for quite some time now, I was starting to get worried."
Valeria Korvin |
”The only way I swindled you was letting you bet when I knew you were bluffing,” Val protests, ”and I seem to recall both us being in more than one compromising position that night, cap’n.”
Donomsail Lishoni |
After the battle. Donomsail watches the exchange between Polli and Tessa, how could she miss it she's standing right there and refuses to get upset by Tessa's version of saying "Thank you." She smiles at Polli, not finding amusement in her discomfort but happy at her ability to stand up for herself in a way that doesn't offend their Captain. "Well handled, and she does seem ta appreciate the belt. Donna let her bother ya, I'm not allowin' her ta take away what we did. Speaking o' which we make a good pair fer creatin' magic items, s'long as we donna allow ourselves ta get distracted." She slips her hand in Polli's, interlacing their fingers and giving them a gentle squeeze. "Along with anythin' else ya'd like ta work tagether on."
Polli Andalaysa Bog IV |
Polli's hand welcomes Donomsails own sliding into hers, thankful of her support. "She perplexes me... " saying as she watches the berry swish away. "Most people do, but she especially." a quirk of a frown "Annoys me a good bit too."
Shaking off her thoughts she turns her full attention to the lovely tiefling she's holding hands with. A grateful and happy smile, "I do still have a lot of work to do on your pearl..." a pause followed by a wide-eyed yelping blush "Of Power! I mean your pearl of power! The spellcas-" she starts to explain in-depth to cover unattended her blunder, trying to show she was NOT talking about the last couple of days together.
Marisan Nkosi |
"Where have you been? I have been looking for you for quite some time now, I was starting to get worried."
"I did not mean to worry you. I have been with Valeria. I did not know Polli already spoke with you about her. I guess I do not have to any more. But I can say, at least, that I approve of her addition to the crew." Marisan grins.
"We have made love several times," the brawler adds without guile.
Tessa Steele |
To Valeria, Tessa nods in affirmation, winking to the slayer "Ah, yes. It is as I remember it as well. It would appear that you recall my card player skills are the less of my talents than evening then."
Tessa grins at Marisan's statement "Ah. Of course you have. That's where you've been. I take it you didn't lose in cards as well? No. That's not your style, now is it."
She nods approvingly. "Well I'm glad to see you stayed warm yesterday. Have you assessed her combat prowess yet?" she asks, turning away from Marisan to look at Valeria.
Marisan Nkosi |
Marisan nods. "She is a skilled archer and would serve well as an artillery leader among our crew."
Tessa Steele |
Nodding to Marisan she turns back to Valeria "We'll need to introduce you to Captain Vi and make sure she's onboard with you joining the crew, but you have our two votes which should be enough for her."
"What about non-combat activities. What are you proficient with for day to day work on the ship?"
Valeria Korvin |
”I’m a skilled rigger,” Val answers, a bit surprised that the conversation turned so quickly to ship business, ”and I know how to handle a helm. I can navigate some, but probably not as well as I can work the sails or the wheel if I’m being honest.”
The slayer almost ends her answer there but her curiosity gets the better of her and she adds, ”and I can help provide distractions during the long nights at sea...” She delicately runs her fingertips across the top of her ample bust and says, ” I’m sorry that I kept Marisan distracted from you for so long, cap’n, perhaps you’d like to join us tonight and we can both make it up to you?”
what has gotten into me... no wonder they call it the Siren, I haven’t even set foot aboard yet and I’m already angling for a threesome, and with the cap’n no less... I guess I have slept with both of them separately already... that makes it a little better, right... still, I need to keep my wits about me or I could lose myself here sure enough...
Tessa Steele |
Tessa nods approvingly at the slayers talents "Excellent. Aside from Azadi, we are quite short in the rigging department. Thank you for your assessment."
She looks back to Marisan and asks curiously "You would be returning to Valeria's bed this evening then?" Her words are not laced with jealousy or content and she merely asks as honest a question as she can. Turning back to Valeria, a large grin begins to spread across her face "Peeeeerrrrrhaps. Let's try our hand at a game of cards in the meanwhile, shall we?"
Marisan Nkosi |
Marisan nods in response to Tessa’s question.

7th of Desnus - Day 29
A couple more days pass and you're getting to know the workers of Rickety's Squibs better. The heat continues, however.
You're outside in the early morning, attempting to accomplish a few minor tasks before the sweltering heat makes it too uncomfortable to be out in the sun, when a peculiar sight meets your eyes. From the jungle beyond the construction barn, you see a flock of birds rise from the trees and move over to the dry dock. The workers there suddenly begin to run for cover, some even risking serious injury as they leap to the ground below.
As you move to get a better look, you can see that the villagers run for cover, you see that creatures are birds. They're wasps - giant wasps. The horse-sized insects dart among the villagers stinging and attempting to drag away those paralyzed for food.
