The sigil glows a bright purple as it lets off the message. The Overseer can be heard with his deep hearty voice. "Nasar my boy, it seems you've left some property out in the midway between the Abyss and the Shadow Plane. Lucky for you he had my mark on it and I did you the favor of returning him. All in a days work to further such a great arena fighters campaign for glory. But these things cost a price nonetheless no taxi ride is a free ride. When you find yourself to have a bit of free time come down to the arena with your crew and crack a few heads for me and your fans would you? And don't lose your horse again!" the sigil then fades back to black and the humming fades.
Deract looks super confused, "That guy sounded oddly familiar, I didn't know you did arena fights?"
Nigawabi |
Once Nasar meets up with the others they head off to the docks and Nasar manages to find one of the Descalers ships at the port. A few Nagaji are loading up various barrels and equipment onto it. They all have on the signature dragonhide armor and their signature symbol of the Descalers. A dragons skull facing upward with a sword through it.
I dont know if you remember but the isle the Descalers now call HQ is like 6 hours away at sea.
Nasar |
Nasar steps up to the gangplank of the ship and gives a whistle to the crew. "Sorry to interrupt your work lads but I request a word with your captain if he is on board." Nasar takes out his medallion he received some time ago. "I'm sure you lot could use a hand taking down some flying pests."
Nigawabi |
One of the deckhands puts a chest on the ship and yells to another Nagaji near the back of the ship. "Aye, Lothrund go get Yoshi. Somebody wants to charter to the isle an' we need permission!" the one Nagaji runs to the lower deck and after a minute or so a very built Nagaji rises from the steps.
His skin blue like the saltwater sea with two frill on his neck. He has one very bulky armor lined with fur and a few pieces of dragons hide. A large sword strapped to his back he definitly is heard from a distance away as his big black boots hit the deck. He looks at the party standing before him before extending his hand and speaking in a mid toned voice.
Imagine if Shia LaBeouf was talking.
"Yoshisaur, but friends call me Yoshi. Any friend of the Descalers is a friend of mine. You wanna head to the isle and lend a hand I'm hearing?"
Nasar |
Nasar accepts the handshake, with full knowledge that his hand is at risk of being smushed. "It's always a pleasure to help my friends in the Descalers, it has been far too long since my last hunt. Since you lot are already heading out I was lookin to hitch a ride for my crew too. Not yet in possession of a ship of my own."
Nigawabi |
Yoshi nods in acknowledgement, "Shouldn't be long now until we leave. Head on down to the lower deck and find a place for your horse. Wouldn't want her going overboard."
The rest of the group piles on and chills out for the moment until the ship disembarks. The sea is fairly smooth with the occasional breach of sea life to the surface. The ride is uneventful and the team makes it to the Descalers HQ unhindered.
The isle itself looks very different than when Nasar and the Descalers first reclaimed it. Over the course of 4 months a large structure has been built mountainside and can easiky be seen on the approach from the beach. Many houses sit on the beach and in the isle where the tree line begins. The beach serves as a training yard for many of the Descalers while on the left side near where the trees open to the large headquraters a large open air workshop stands. A giant furnace with a giant forge sits on the sand while different people work dragon bone and dragon hide into various armaments. A dragons skeleton sits behind the forge the size of the ship the crew rode in on.
Yoshi exclaims as they dock, "Land ho you sea dawgs!" he looks towards the traveling party. "The man your looking for is Nepal, a human at the main house on the mountain. He will help you,"
Nigawabi |
The crew follows suit and heads up the sand bank. A few faces remember Nasar and give him a wave and greet him kindly. He did liberate this island after all.
The team makes there way up the forest to the large hosue at the base of the mountain. 2 large iron doors sit closed with engravings of dragons all over the front.
Deract looks confused. "For dragon slayers... they sure use dragon symbolism allot."
Nigawabi |
The doors open easily as the interior has many pillars of wood and stone. A few tables lay around with various documents and maps laid out. A human man is currently the only one in this large room. Hes standing in front of a giant board with many red pieces of string tapered to different drawings of dragons of all different shapes and colors. Some of these pictures have dragons with no feet, others with no tails, some with different facial structures, others with different types of bodies.
The man turns and notices the door open. He kindly greets them as they enter and welcomes them in. "Visitors welcome come in come in what can the Descalers do for you?"
Nigawabi |
The man nods, "Yes I remember hearing about you. You took down the drake that held this territory, my brother Derk filled me in on all this before he left to Korvosa. Help is always appreciated, though I dont have anything thats within a weeks ship ride away." he looks at his current setup and points to a red dragon near the middle. "This is what I have been informed of as your main target. For whom you seek vengeance against. Finding his lair is not an easy task, which is why I have set up this ladder of dragon kind to find these high value targets and take them down. The main lead I have is in the deep Grungir Forest north of the Varisian Gulf. If you were to sail North for about a week you would hit land. North from there the forest lies and in that a dragons den awaits. A forest drake prowls that land in search of weary travellers and adds their wealth to his hoard at the cost of their life. he pulls a map of the Inner Sea showing them the forest and where they are. "Your duty would be to locate this drake. By luring or with expertise survival tracking skills. And slay it, its hoard will contain information regarding the location of our next target. A fire wyrm of an unknown location that appears to be in cohorts with this forest drake."
Nasar |
If Nasar had cat eyes, they would be full pupil mode while hearing about his oldest foe. Nasar speaks as if he is the only one in the room, seemingly forgetting the party. "It does not matter how many dragonkin stand i my way, I'll carve up every last one of them. Would you provide us with transport north and we can take this beast down."
Nigawabi |
He nods and hands Nasar a small portfolio of his mission. Including a map of where he needs to go, a detailed description and drawing of the forest drake. And the instructions told to him.
Deract smiles, "So like... the body? Do we bring it back here? You guys seem to repurpose allot of what you kill."
Nepal responds, "If you are able to bring the dragon back in pieces or in whole it would help the cause yes, we do utilize most of the dragonk kinds parts for various tools and weapons."
Nasar |
Nasar puts the portfolio away into his pack and seemingly snaps back into reality at the sound of Deract speaking. "I'm sure we can bring back what we find, did it before without much issue. Once the travel arrangements are ready, I think we can set sail unless any of you need something first." He directs the last statement to the party.
Nigawabi |
Everyone nods in agreement of being ready, they are taken quickly to the ship as one of the other Nagaji introduces the small ship. "Here be the Antelope, treat her good now for shes a small but fast vessel."
Lily looks around as the Nagaji leaves. "Do any of you know how to actually drive a boat?"
Deract shakes his head as does Marissa.
The boat has 2 rope ladders one of each back end of the boat. A gangplank sits on the left side of this 15 foot sloop. 2 tiers sit on the deck the main hull and a higher point where the wheel sits. A crows nest atop the single mast amd under the wheel deck sits steps to go down under deck. One cannon sits on each side of the sloop. It bobs lazily in the water with a rope holding it to shore.
Nasar |
Nasar rubs his face "I really hope that I'm not that stupid and it's just my mind still being somewhat fried that I DIDNT ASK FOR A F~#*ING CAPTAIN." Nasar turns the f+$$ back around and now with the paranoia of forgetting things, quickly head counts the party to make sure he didn't accidentally leave someone one the previous boat before paying someone to drive the ship.
Nasar |
Nasar calms down, stresses of being still mentally hurt and the prospect of getting closer to the dragon of the past getting to him a bit too much. "Ok, I it's been forever since I even pondered driving a ship...but do any of you have some knowledge of nature? Cause we can at least work with that since none of us have sailor experience. Since I'm still somewhat mind flared I don't think I'm the best candidate."
Nigawabi |
Lily raises her hand, I had to pilot a galleon a few millenia back because the captain got his head blown off. Well not blown off it was cut off... by me... it was a mutiny on the fiery seas of the Abyss but I got everyone back to the 3rd circle in one piece, except the captain of course.
Nasar |
Nasar breathes out a sigh of relief before a big smile comes across his face as now they have a way to get back to work. "I figured I could rely on you coming in clutch again. I would hug you right now but..." Nasar just kinda trails off as he doesn't want to say 'I don't understand succubi and don't want to find out the hard way.'
Nigawabi |
Deract holds in his a big smile and covers his face and turns away from the group as Lily just stares at Nasar with the deadest look. Nah nah that's fine... this is your job right its obligation being a 'fetch'ling and all. Lets go 'get' your dragon..." to which she then teleport to the ships hull and starts acquainting herself with the ship.
Deract throws a muffled, "Dude wtf"
Bean glides over to the ship and pulls the gangplank overboard to let Llamrei on. Marissa also walks on.
Nasar |
”OhhhhHHHH ok you see that’s not how it’s taught in literature. It’s usually denoted as any sort of intimate act, and it’s not like there’s much in the way of experimenting in the way of ‘how succubi take your souls’ and I’m not about losing my...” Nasar’s 80% ram finally catch up and he pieces together everything. ”oh gods damnit did I do something racist again”
Nigawabi |
Deract looks at him with a raised eyebrow and smirks. "Lets jump on board before she leaves us behind haha,"
They shove off and over the next 3 days it is an uneventful trip. Calm waters and lots of rest have healed Nasar up and his mind is fully functional again.
Wisdom damage recovered
Rain starts to pull in as they near their 4th days noontime. Marissa mans the sail while Bean and Llamrei sit under the deck. Deract pitter patters about looking for fish to shoot energy bolts at. Lily mans the wheel that shes been at for the whole time, she seems to be doing ok save for the occasional bump of waves.
Nasar wakes early enough to be there when the rain starts but now he is free to move about the cabin.
Nasar |
Nasar steps out onto the main deck and takes in the s@++ty weather. After checking around making sure everyone is alright he takes a deep breath before making way to Lily. Once he gets up to her he stops, let's out that long breath before speaking. "Lily, I'm really REALLY sorry about the last 3-no 5(?) days. On two occasions I said really suspect things at you that were neither deserving or tasteful. I wasn't able to fully think before I spoke and that led me to insinuate things about you I never, ever meant to. That however is no excuse and I absolutely deserve what you said to me before we departed. We are partners and somewhat of friends but my actions throughout the week have acted against that. I never wanted to make you think I worry about you harming me purely based on you being who you are." Nasar takes a moment to catch his breath as he has ran out of air. "I'm rambling again..I just wanted to say again-" Nasar bows in front of her, going the full 9 yards on this apology. "I'm truly sorry Lily."
Nigawabi |
Lily looks back and forth from the front of the ship to Nasar as the rain is pounding the boat and she turns the wheel all the way to the side of Nasar. She grunts before saying, "Yea I figured it was the whole mind melt thing, I wouldn't lead you on to inevitably kill you. And yea I don't just suck anyones energy by touch, dumbass." she struggles with the wheel for a second. Holding it all the way to one side, "Can you grab the wheel for a second?"
Nigawabi |
Once Nasar grabs it Lily teleports below deck for a breif second.
As its far flung to the left it tries to jerk back to the other side as the waves crash against it.
Nasar Wisdom Check (Sailor Profession) : 1d20 ⇒ 10
The wheel jerks too hard and the ship sways to the left against the wave as the wheel spins loose from Nasars grasp and spins wildly to the right. Sending Nasar stumbling to the side. Lily teleport back up with gloves now on her hands as she sees the stumble happen she quickly grabs the wheel again. "Jeez Nasar I said hold it!"
Nasar |
”I was and then a wave hit and the whole thing shifted, it’s not as easy as you make it look ya know. If you were getting cold you could havw just asked one of us to get you something...i was going to offer you one of my coats since the weather is getting bad, I don’t want you to get sick”
Nigawabi |
Lily stabilizes the ship as it threatens to throw Marissa off the front deck. Shes seen gripping the mast as if her life depended on it looking back at Nasar and Lily.
"I just needed something its fine. Be on the lookout for anything in the area that will want us for lunch,"
Deract manages to fire off a bolt that goes crashing into the water. A large scream is heard from the water!
Nigawabi |
A pretty rough looking Nagaji clasps onto the small boat as he clutches his chest in pain. He reaches into his piratey looking vest amd whips out a flintlock. He cocks the hammer and looses a shot into the waves. Looking dead at Nasar and Deract he lets go and is quickly lost under the waves.
Deract looks at Nasar, "Was that a damn pirate?!"
Nigawabi |
As Nasar rushes up the crows nest he sees halfway up the shot the pirate shot off explodes midair in a shower or orange and black smoke and sparks.
As he reaches the crows nest he immediately sees to the right a ship emerge from behind some rocks. The boat looks bigger than Nasars sloop and has 2 masts that billow in the rainy wind.
Nasar |
Nasar whistles down to his crew ”WE GOT PIRATES AFTER US EVERYBODY, ITS TIME TO FIGHT.” Nasar makes haste down the ladder and towards the cannon on the side facing the pirates ship. ”Marissa! Could you lend me a hand with the cannon?”
Nigawabi |
Marissa is currently a little busy making sure the mast is good and in proper formation to catch all the wind. She looks at Deract, "Give him a hand Deract!? Nobody eats here for free!"
Deract scampers over to the cannon balls netted down next to the cannon. He heaves one up and begins loading it in the cannon.
The enemy ship is a solid 750 feet away
Nasar |
Nasar lends a hand to help load up the cannon instead of just standing there and lines up up the shot and does the medieval yeet
cannon sound: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (6) + 6 = 12
wooden bonk: 6d8 ⇒ (5, 3, 6, 3, 5, 6) = 28
Nigawabi |
The underwhelming crew size makes it difficult to load and fire quickly. After a few seconds they finally manage to aim the cannon and shoot it. It goes off with a giant kaboom as the cannon raises in recoil knocking the aim off and needing to be reaimed next time. The deafening bang is accompanied by black powder flying out the backend. Deract and Nasar have some new black powder stains on their bodies.
The shot goes flying into the distance as it falls into the water some hundred feet away. The ship continues to move closer to meeting the sloop perpendicularly.
Add your BAB and Int mod to the next shot.
Deract begins taking his action to load the cannon once again. Lily starts veering to the left to make themselves parallel to the oncoming ship.
Nasar |
Nasar helps the best he can while keeping an eye on the ship's approach. Having an idea of the water's they are in and his connections to the black market, Nasar tries to figure out what kind of pirates they are dealing with and what they can expect from them.
Know Local: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16
After looking over the ship and trying to think about any known pirates that might run with a Nagaji crew, he chimes in realizing they might have to deal with an actual fight. "Be ready for a fight cause even if I hit every shot, I don't think 1 cannon's work can take the boat down!" Once the cannon has been loaded, he takes aim and unleashes the widowmaker's second shot.
Cannon: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 6 + 5 + 2 = 23
Cannon: 6d6 ⇒ (4, 2, 1, 4, 3, 5) = 19
Nigawabi |
After another minute if resetting the trajectory and loosing another cannonball it sails a solid 500 feet before crashing straight into the ships hull. It continues forward not sending a return shot.
Lily losses control of the wheel for a split second as the cannon shot rocks the whole boat in recoil. They stay on track but a bit of turbulence is happening.
The black powder envelopes Deract and Nasar and as it settles Deract is seen filling the cannon back up for a 3rd shot.
The ship nears at an increasing speed.
The boat seems akin to Riddleport's usual run of the mill heathens, Nagajis are often wanted on crew for their expertise in the water. And them being in Riddleport would come as no surprise since it houses many of the oppressed races in its undernet. Bandit pirates usually like to board ships without destroying them as to take all the spoils after they board.
Nasar |
Nasar lets out a couple coughs, pulling the scarf over his face. Once again helping Deract out with the loading business. "Looks like they are lookin to ram us...with this storm and those waters we better make these shots count."
Sloop shot part 3 The Sloopening: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 6 + 5 + 2 = 19
Get slooped: 6d6 ⇒ (2, 4, 6, 6, 6, 6) = 30
Nigawabi |
Nasar manages to sink another shot into the middle of the ship as it gets closer and closer. Lily maneuvers parallel to the other ships direction to prep for a boarding versus being rammed.
Make 2 more cannon shots or the equivalent of 1 minute worth of actions before something else is going to happen
The boat closes in with every passing second. The crew can be seen on the deck with grappling hooks at the ready. Others have rifles sighted for them. The crew on top deck looks to be about 7 from what Nasar can spot.
Nasar |
With nothing but fate to assist on these shots, Nasar says one last prayer to himself to the many gods his friends back home used to worship before unleashing hell. With the boat being so close, the only thing saving them is trying to take out their sails so they slow down. Nasar points the cannon towards the base of the masts, the greatly reduced distance hopefully making these shots much easier than at any other point.
slooped: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 5 + 2 = 30
slooped: 6d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 4, 3, 2, 2) = 22
slooped've: 1d20 + 6 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 6 + 5 + 2 = 26
slooped've: 6d6 ⇒ (3, 4, 3, 6, 4, 2) = 22
Nigawabi |
As Nasar and Deract fire off the shot it goes sailing right through the ships masts. Wind now billowing through the ship it still flies full speed towards them. The 2 quickly ready their last shot and loose it as it hit the mark and sends the top of the mast leaning to the side.
As the boat manages to sail next to the Antelope the pirates throw 4 heavy grappling hooks to the ship. They all land on the deck and quickly latch to the side of the boat as it slows down from the lack of wind going through the broken sails. The Antelope heaves backward as everyone is jerked forward by the sudden deceleration. The boats now sit 10 feet apart as pirates start attempting to climb across.
Nasars Init: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
2 pirates begin making their way down the line with their cutlasses in their teeth.
Nasars Turn
