Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
"I think we are going to have to bust in and hold our on while the rest of you get shuttled over."
Deno'thar |
Well I’m confident that we can secure a foothold on the other side. Please search for traps professor. As for Otto, he has two hands, he is large, and mighty strong. Moving slowly he can probably carry Toshiro and me, and toss us into the battle if we find a fight, just as the stone giant Wallet once did with two orcish berserkers... Hopefully this time the ending will be a little better for the throwee...
Otto O'Read |
How about this?
Otto carefully carries the Professor across so that he can stand on the 5' platform and check for traps. Then he carries Deno'thar to the spot just next to the platform, so that when the door opens Deno'thar can quickly move through. Just before the door is opened, Otto will also cast (again) Lead Blades on himself.
As soon as the door is opened Otto will return across (40' movement speed) and ferry another person.
And yes, I'm fine with assuming that Allison has to stay behind while the rest of us cross the pit. Hopefully she won't be eaten by a swarm of rats.
Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
Professor is flying he has been across this whole time but otherwise a sound plan.
Take 10 for traps: 10 + 28 + 1d6 ⇒ 10 + 28 + (6) = 44
Once Professor knows it is unlocked and clear of traps her will drink a shield and reduce person while the others get into position and then kick open the door.
Otto O'Read |
In that case, Otto will ferry Deno'thar across so that he is standing on the 5' platform while the Professor flies, and Otto will be holding Toshiro in the air next to the platorm, ready to let him step across as soon as the door is open. I think this will just leave Coreleus needing to be picked up (i.e. Otto will only need to make one trip back to the other side)?
GM Netherpongo |
Professor Kaldosian doesn't find any traps on the door.
Is anyone climbing across on their own? It kind of sounded like Toshiro is going for it.
Otto O'Read |
If I understand the situation correctly: Prof is flying while checking for traps. Deno'thar is standing on the 5' platform (having been ferried by Otto). Otto is holding Toshiro in mid-air just next to the 5' platform, ready to step onto the platform and into the room as soon as the door is open. That should just leave Coreleus (and Allison, who will have to just hang out) waiting for Otto to return across and ferry over (which is presumably Otto's round 1 action as soon as the door is opened).
GM Netherpongo |
New map up!
The walls of this room are carefully smoothed into strange, organic curves, and then rounded in disturbing folds like the contours of a brain. The floor is carved in small channels, like ripples in sand.
Take one round of actions.
Deno'thar |
Deno'thar looks inside, and then steps in slightly to allow his colleagues to join him.
Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
Professor will move into the room only far enough to leave space for everybody but but he will try to be standing in the way of incoming attacks. He will look are and try to spot any danger, or make any knowledge checks he can.
Otto O'Read |
Otto will use the one round of actions to return across the pit and fetch Coreleus.
GM Netherpongo |
A low moaning begins to emanate from the walls around you just before two mummies and an emerald automaton are disgorged from the eerie folds of the walls around you.

Yes, you can just take Allison out of the initiative.
Also, since Otto used his 1 round of free activity before initiative started to return and ferry Coreleus back over the pit, is it fair to say that they (Otto and Coreleus) each begin the combat on the side of the pit closer to the door? Otto's movement is 40'/round, so it would have been a double move (albeit carrying Coreleus).
GM Netherpongo |
Otto: I hadn't been counting actions carefully, but I did say above that picking someone up would be a move action. So, probably moving back across the pit and picking up Coreleus would be your two actions at best probably? On his turn, he said he took a 5' step back, so maybe he doesn't want to go over to mummy land.
Deno'thar: your Will saves passed.
Coreleus: you had two available targets here. You really ought to declare what you are shooting at. In the interest of time, we'll start with the red mummy since Deno'thar shot it already.
All five of Coreleus's arrows strike their targets. The mummy resists the damage from his fire somewhat, but still crumples into a heap under the sustained fire. The emerald automaton is unable to get out of the way of the last arrow, and takes a glancing blow. Some damage resisted.
Emerald Automaton Damage Taken: 10
The emerald automaton moves up to attack Professor Kaldosian, but misses with its guisarme.

Toshiro and Professor Kaldosian both shake off the fear gripping their hearts and move to attack. As Professor Kaldosian moves in, he finds the area immediately around the emerald automaton incredibly cold. Professor Kaldosian takes 6 nonlethal cold damage. It's covered in brown mold, which I forgot to mention. Sorry. His first strike destroys the emerald automaton, setting off an angry clatter that reverberates through the chamber as it falls to the ground.
Toshiro moves up to strike the mummy, striking it with his katana although its toughened form seems to resist some damage.
Toshiro, if you want to retroactively challenge this thing since we're near to the end, I'm fine with that. Otto is delayed.
The mummy roars in fury at Toshiro and strikes back at the samurai. The mummy's attack hit AC 31 for 22 damage. Assuming that hits, make a saving throw vs mummy rot.
Initiative is easy now. Everyone can act!
Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
"Does anyone have something cold to deal with this brown mold."
I'm writing this based on the fact that we have identified brown mold today and we have an investigator and a bard in the group. I hope that's not an overstep.

Professor Kaldosian: Nope, not overstepping. You could also haul the corpse over and toss it into the pit or something. Or just move away.
Coreleus: you'd need to cross the pit in order to even have line of sight on the last enemy. I forgot to take the blue construct off the board when Professor Kaldosian killed it.
Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
Professor draws a flask uncorks it with his teeth and pour liquid ice on the mold. He lets the flask roll from his fingers and steps toward the mummy.

Toshiro's flashing blade sinks deeply into the mummy, disrupting much of the necrotic energy animating the creature.
Toshiro: first, I still need saving throws vs mummy rot from you. Also, I need to confirm whether you applied the damage bonuses from Deno'thar to those rolls. It doesn't look like you did. By my count, it looks like +7 damage on the first swing and +5 on the second.
GM Netherpongo |
Oh good: no mummy rot. That stuff is nasty.
With some capable assistance from Deno'thar, Toshiro cuts the mummy down.
Combat is over! That's basically the whole dungeon. I'll give you guys an option: the scenario doesn't say anything at all about how to get out of this place. If you want, you can try to tackle the doors in character. Alternately, we can handwave that and just move to chronicles.
Deno'thar |
Is the trap from the beginning resolved? If not we may need magical assistance to leave. If it is, I’m confident we can handwaive walking out.
See professor, I told you that you were the right man for the job, even though you didn’t want to miss those lectures. Glad we brought a troll who walks on air and a Samurai to cut down our foes as well. Looks like we have a lovely journey back to Absolom ahead of us.

GM Netherpongo |
That's what I'm trying to say, I guess. The module doesn't provide an obvious method of escape. (This is supposed to be a prison for Yarrix).
Deno'thar |
If its a prison for Yarrix, did destroying her earlier do anything? If not maybe the professors earlier disable device allows us an escape?
GM Netherpongo |
You would think that the section with Yarrix would say something like that, but it doesn't. Possibly the Sarenites who trapped her here weren't concerned with details? Anyway, I'm confident thatsome mix of Disable Device and/or brute force will do the job. It's just a matter of whether anyone feels like going through the process of doing so or not.
Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
I'm happy either way. Professor would obviously love to disable the traps but if there is nothing in the scenario he would take lots of notes before leaving.
Otto O'Read |
Otto and Allison take turns banging their heads against the locked doors to get out so they can return to the "comforts" of Fort Inevitable. When that doesn't work, they shrug, and watch while Professor Kaldosian works his talents upon the wards binding the doors.
Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
"You are some of the best Pathfinders I have had the pleasure of working with. I look forward to working with you all again."
Otto O'Read |
Otto nods in acknowledgment to his companions. "Although we have not - yet - found my mother's missing dog, I feel certain that it must be here. Perhaps deeper in the Spire...?"
Deno'thar |
Indeed, an excellent group of pathfinders all around.
should I tell him that dog was probably eaten on the first level of the spire... probably not
Yes,I'm sure we can continue the search for your mother's dog. Should be just around the corner Deno'thar tells a little lie to Otto.
30 bluff, if Otto cares...
Professor Baldeck Kaldosian |
"I can't abide by a missing dog. I'm willing to help you."
Professor makes no attempt to look for deceit. It seems inconsequential and may give him the excuse fight with the bard and big druid hellknight again.
