This will be the gameplay thread for those searching for the elf Atreus.

As the two made their way along the path towards the rock, several times Corso had to pause to catch his breath. It was clear that long periods of walking robbed him of the ability to breathe freely; the wheezing sounds more than proved that to be the case.

During one such break, Corso asked "So, Lady Tia, how did you come to be a wanderer amongst our people? I do not mean offense, but it seems that those among your kind that I have met here have tended to be outcasts from their society."

Without any additional preparation the pair of new friends leaves the White Wolf Inn, and head to towards the river. There they find the troop of dwarves working busily on the bridge which will soon span the flow, but for now, like it has been, they must rely on the ferry, Old Tanner himself, to cross.

"Lots of folks crossing this morning," remarks Tanner as he helps you aboard and starts the crank that pulls the raft across despite the heavy current. "And where are you folks off to, then?"

Out of doors again after leaving the inn, the elf somehow seems to grow a little perkier still. There’s a bounce in her step that is equal parts energetic and graceful, and in order to take in as much of Tanner’s Crossing as possible she keeps turning round and round as she walks, as though performing a very slow dance.

“Hello!” Tia greets the ferryman. She smiles as she turns down his helping hand with a shake of her head and lightly leaps aboard the vessel on her own. “We are off to Point of Rocks to look for an elf! I suppose you will not have seen him? His name is Atreus and he comes to the tavern here often,” she says.

~

The tattooed elf doesn’t seem to mind going more slowly to account for Corso’s pace. Whenever he pauses to catch his breath she wanders around a little, straying off whatever path there might be to crouch amid the grass or peer off into the distance, though never venturing too far.

When the priest asks about Tia’s reasons for mingling with the colonists she walks closer to him, clearly not offended in the least. “I am an outcast of a sort, I suppose,” she replies, briefly sounding thoughtful. “I have no magic, you see, at all. This makes me special for an elf, but in a way many don’t care for. So instead of living with the tribe, I am trained to be a dhenna fech. Which makes me what you would call a…hermit, maybe? We live alone, away from tribal life, and have our own kinds of skills and wisdom.” The elf smiles. “And because we are not elves of a tribe, we do not need to live like they do. So we can look at the world freely as we like to – and me, I am very curious about all you people from distant lands.”

She then extends one lean, bare leg, indicating the complex tattoos that wind and flow across it virtually all the way from her hip to her toes. “Also, we learn to make these,” Tia says. “Life-etchings. Other elves can have them but only we make them. There are stories in them but they are often very hard to understand. It is not the point, anyway. What matters is that they are, yes?”

"Interesting. So those who society has shunned have found a way to contribute to society and not be cut off from it. I find your people fascinating; the adherrance to a magocratical governance is not something that exsists where we are from."

‘Magocratical governance’ takes her a little while to make sense of. Once she has done so, Tia smiles. “But you see, Corso, magic is only one part. It is also important to be close to the gods and the spirits if you wish to be somebody in a tribe. My mother, she was the foremost priestess of Qhintarro. She saw futures yet to come, she spoke with Aradia and Peren. There is magic in that, yes, and yet something else too. Gifts I did not have or did not want.” The elf gives a small, indifferent shrug.

After idly strolling up and down the path for a bit, she turns to regard the priest again. “Now, you! How did you come to Terrigan? And why are you here and not across the great waters? Other than talking in these lands about your god?”

"My brethern would tell you that coming these lands to bring the word of the eight IS the reason we are here, but our people came because wild magics had died out on our ancestral homelands."

Corso dramatically gestures to himself and says "I would say that I came because the art of warfare knows no cultural bounds, and that teaching it to any who seek it is the calling of my brotherhood. Then again, most of my faith who know of me view me with....confusion, if not outright disdain. For you see, I have always been sickly of body. My training in the temple helped a bit, but I doubt I will ever be free of the frailty of my form."

Corso shrugs but says nothing further on the subject, instead changing the topic by saying "Does your people have a deity of warfare or tactics?"

The elf nods. “Yes, I have seen some who talk always of the Eight. Do all of them think they know better which gods are right than anybody else? It is annoying.” When Corso speaks of the real reason for his people’s coming to Tirn Wydd, she raises her eyebrows and uncrosses her arms. “How can the magic go out of an entire land? I am thinking you may be pulling my leg, Corso!” she exclaims, though her tone is less accusatory than her words.

“Oh! You talk about war but you cannot make it,” Tia next observes with cheerful bluntness. “No wonder you like this game you teach me so much. It is a thing of the mind, not the body.” She considers Corso’s question for a few moments. “The closest thing would be Peren,” she then says. “He is the god of magic, but also of power. Our hunters and the guardians of the tribes pray to him for strength and success. But I think it is not the same idea as what you are asking.”

Corso begins to respond to her questions regarding the gods, then visibly winces at her unintented insults. He then says "It's true, I am not a warrior who can run into the fray, swinging his blade back and forth; it is also true that all armies need a general to lead them, and that is where my expertise lies; for you see, the game is a form of training to understand combat formations." Corso then stands and says "I feel well enough to continue; shall we?"

“Yes, I can see that this game may so be of some use. Even if living warriors and little figures of wood on a board are not very similar.”

In response to Corso’s words Tia nods, adjusts her pack, and sets off again.

Apologies, but it looks like one of my posts did not take. Sorry if it seems i have been neglecting you.

The ferryman, Tanner, nods. "Aye, I have seen the elfish lad. He comes to town once a week or so from who knows where. I ain't seen him today, though. You all are lookin' for him at Point of Rocks. Careful now, I hear there is goblins on the loose in them parts."

Once the ferry docks on the other side, Tanner bids you good-day and pulls for the town-side of the river again. You hear some shouts and cursing from the dwarves building the great bridge, but it just seems to be workmen's talk, and soon you are set off into the treeline into the wilderness.

Point of Rocks is about a 3 hour hike up the bank and after the first hour, you stop for a short rest, mainly so Corso can rub his aching feet. As you start up again, you hear the babble of voices coming from the woods on your left.

"Those might be the aforementioned Goblins. Do you know anything about them? I must admit that they did not exist on the continent that we came from."

Even without proper Lore, Tia will know the basics about goblins. They are a common humanoid pest and the elves have dealt with them plenty.

F Elf Monk 1 | HP 17/17 | AC 19 | F +6, R +9, W +7 | Perc. +5 | Spd 30' | Hero Pts 1/1 | Focus Pts 1/1 | Reactions: None | Conditions: None | Effects: magic weapon (7 rnds)

She comes to a halt again and tilts her head, listening to the chattering voices. “Goblins, maybe, yes,” Tia agrees. “They are small and often green, but not harmless. In fact they rather are – how do you say? – a new-sense! Many tribes celebrate the hunter who collects the most goblin ears in a year. It is not wise to let their numbers grow too big.”

The elf produces a somewhat crudely-made sling, then carefully places a small stone in its pouch. “It is possible our Atreus has run into a few goblins. I think it may be a good idea to go look if they are not eating him right now. Can you walk very lightly, Corso?”

I was going to ask for a Recall Knowledge about goblins using my whooping Nature +2 (which the GM is supposed to make in secret), but I’m not about to object to a few freebie lore facts!

"I can try." offered Corso, who then began trying to creep forward.

Stealth: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2

Unfortunately, it appears that "stealthy assassin" was not in Corso's Wheelhouse, as he managed to step on more twigs than he avoided, and not by a narrow margin.

Tia grimaces when Corso proves about as graceful as a troll. “It is a good thing you only said ‘try’,” she murmurs, a wry look on her face.

For her part the dhenna fech does a better job of moving quietly, barefooted steps taking her into the woods and towards the source of the chattering without producing too much in the way of noise.

I actually don’t know if trolls even exist in Terra Nova! If they don’t, feel free to substitute your favourite lumbering monstrosity.

Stealth: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Remember, I will also roll things like Stealth for you, since don't know if others can really hear you or not...Either way, Corso is a critical failure.

As Tia and Corso try to creep closer to the sound of voices, Corso catches his pack on a tree branch unknowingly. As he presses forward the branch cracks like a gunshot and then the pack falls from his back with a thump and a clatter. The sound of voices stops immediately, and as Tia peers down into the valley, she sees a troop of four small, lizard like humanoids armed with crude spears with stone tips advancing up the slope towards you.

The party of kobolds stops about 25' away, making menacing motions with their weapons. One of the little fellow, who wears a necklace made of stones of some kind, calls out in a language you can't understand. His intention is clear enough however - Get Lost!

Sighing, Corso scooped up has pack, gesturing for Tia to stay back, then moves out into the clearing.

He tries speaking Elvish first:

Elven:

"Oh, that goodness you're here. Can you point me towards the road? I seem to have gotten all turned around."
Deception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

If Elven doesn't work, then Corso will try both Sylvan and Celestial, repeating the same message.

Though the look on her face is very much a dubious one, Tia humours Corso and steps back to let him try his luck at talking to the goblins.

Not goblins, see above

Corso tries communicating with the lizard types, but no matter which language he goes to, they cannot fathom what he is saying but its clear he is trying to speak nonsense instead of moving out. As this is in direct contradiction to his shouted commands, the lead kobold gets rather angry and menaces the pair with his spear, making exaggerated stabbing motions to underline the point.

GM Screen:

Corso deception: 1d20 + 5 - 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 - 5 = 9

Remember, I am rolling most influence checks secretly as well. If you want to try, you can post the request, plus your modifier rather than die-rolling, please. Will give you one more reaction if you want to try something else before this deteriorates, if you are ready to fight, go ahead and roll your Perception/Initiative.

Alas it seemed that these creatures lacked the ability to communicate effectively, so Corso was forced to rely on the language that all creatures understand: violence.

“Time for making some war,” the elf murmurs when Corso’s efforts to communicate with the kobolds fail…somewhat predictably, in her none too humble opinion.

My apologies – I need to stop making posts when less than fully awake.

Corso traced a sigil in front of him, then channelled power into his touch before reaching over and touching Tia, which caused one of her fists to glow.

"Go get them!" he then called out.

Casting Shield on myself and magic weapon on Tia.

Kobold Showdown - Round 1 - continued

Corso shouts the words abrenunatio clypeum and a disc shield of pure force appears in front of him, giving a bit more protection from attacks. Knowing Tia will be a more effective combatant, he makes the proper hand motions and chants magicae telum transmutio and her fists glow with striking power, radiating magical energy that tingles up her arms.

The kobold leader advances leading his squad into battle with bared fangs. He launches a javelin at Tia, and the poorly made weapon just does graze the elf, drawing a small line of bllod along her arm.

Tia is hit for 1hp dmg. She may act now before the rest of the kobold horde goes.

Tia stares at her hand in astonishment as it begins to glow. After a moment the warm, tingling sensation disperses throughout the rest of her body, leaving her grinning. “Now this is a thing I could get used to, Corso,” she tells the priest – but even as she does so, a javelin flung by one of the kobolds grazes her arm.

She frowns briefly at the cut now marring the inked lines of her Clouded Dream’s Crest tattoo before darting off without further ado. The elf leaps through the grass as lightly as a doe, coming up on her assailant and throwing a palm strike at the creature. It is followed immediately by a neat hook kick before she withdraws just as swiftly, having no desire to let the entire pack of kobolds descend on her.

Action 1: Stride.
Action 2: Flurry of Blows!

Strike 1 vs Kobold Leader: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 122d6 + 2 ⇒ (6, 6) + 2 = 14
Strike 2 vs Kobold Leader: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (14) + 4 = 182d6 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 2 = 8
Action 3: Stride.

Kobold Showdown - Round 1 - concluded

With her newly magical fists, Tia swiftly strides up to the kobold leader but he avoids her palm strike and blocks her hook kick with his off hand before it can damage him. As Tia slips back away, the leader laughs a feral bark of a laugh.

He waves his arm and the rest of the smaller kobolds advance, throwing light javelins and readying their spears to engage the larger intruders. The form a defensive line around their boss. The javelins are poorly made and the throws are pretty feeble and the rain of projectiles comes close to hitting nothing.

End of Round 1

Blue kobold javelin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Green kobold javelin: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (3) + 5 = 8

Kobold Showdown - Round 2

27 Corso

4 Red Kobold

The second round starts over with Corso up.

Corso moved up and unleashed a Roar that was almost antithetical to his existance.

Cry of Destruction: Basic Fort Save for Green and Red: 1d8 ⇒ 1 Sonic damage.

Kobold Showdown - Round 2 - continued

Striding into the fray, Corso roars his disapproval of the kobolds aggressive nature, and while the magical cry can kill, this time it is little more than an annoyance to the kobolds in the field of fire.

Sensing that Tia is the more potent combatant, the kobold leader advances on her, attacking with its short-bladed sword, stabbing twice. Moving lithely, Tia is able to barely avoid the first strike and easily avoid the second.

Tia is up now.

While it’s tempting to trade blows with the kobolds’ ringleader, Tia feels that thinning out their ranks might be a better idea. As such, she nimbly dances away from her adversary and slips up behind the kobold currently harrying Corso, aiming two swift kicks at it in hopes of snapping its neck outright. Having done so the elf steps behind a sapling, putting it between herself and her prospective attackers in an almost uncannily effective manner.

Action 1: Stride to the square to the left of Red, flanking it with Corso.
Action 2: Flurry of Blows! I’m targetting Red with the first blow; if that should somehow kill it I’ll aim the second Strike at Green, otherwise Red gets attacked some more.

Strike 1 vs Kobold: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 262d6 + 2 ⇒ (2, 6) + 2 = 10
Strike 2 vs Kobold: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 72d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 6) + 2 = 12
Action 3: Take Cover to gain standard cover, which I think my Woodland Elf heritage permits me to do here (“You can always use the Take Cover action when you are within forest terrain to gain cover, even if you’re not next to an obstacle you can Take Cover behind.”). If it doesn’t I’ll Stride back to where I started my turn, directly to the right of the kobold head honcho.

Also, it’s hard to narrate taking cover when there is technically no cover to take. :P

I think I'll just keep buffing Tia. Apparently it's much more effective!

Kobold Showdown - Round 2 - concluded

Tia's decides it is smarter tactially to thin the ranks before taking on the boss, so she leaps into the fray, kicking repeatedly. Her first kick catches the Red Kobold in the side of the head, delivering a bone-crunching impact, she smiles grimly as the little lizard's neck breaks and it falls in a heap. Her second kick is just too far from the Green target to make a solid connection, but she has already started to even the odds.

The two remaining kobolds move to attack the whirling elf monk, stabbing at her with their crude spears. But neither of the feeble warrior is skilled enough to harm the agile Tia.

End of Round 2

Blue Kobold spear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (10) + 5 = 15
Green kobold spear: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (7) + 5 = 12

He then draws his club.

Kobold Showdown -Round 3 - continued

Casting another spell that fills his touch with necromantic energy, Corso reaches for his draconic adversary. The chill touch succeeds, damaging Blue Kobold and draining away most of his life force. Additionally, the victim has his strength sapped for a limited time.

Critical failure on the save means the target has the enfeebled 1 condition for 1 round.

The kobold leader is quite concerned as his minions are getting ground up. But he leaps into the fray with Tia once again, striding and striking at the elf. This time the top kobold scores a hit stabbing Tia in the side.

Tia takes 6hp dmg, and is up now.

Her satisfied smirk as she feels the kobold’s neck snap following her heel’s smashing into its head gives way to a grimace when the leader’s blade leaves a gash just beneath her ribs. Still, while she might not be the most thoughtful of dhennaa fech she knows better than to mindlessly retaliate. The elf instead whirls around the pack of kobolds and lays into the remaining two minions, hoping to drop at least one of them.

Kobold Showdown - Round 3 - concluded

Tia spins into the horde of kobolds. Her first hand jab misses, but her second uppercut connects with Blue Kobolds rib cage and the shattering of bones and organs beneath is clearly heard over the din. Blue Kobold goes down dead.

Green Kobold looks to its leader for guidance, its will clearly wavering, but presses the attack instead, slashing and stabbing at Tia once again. One attack just misses nimble Tia, but the kobold drops his spear with the second thrust and steps back towards his leader, now unarmed.

Knowing that Tia is taking some wounds showing off her combat prowess, Corso calls forth a blessing that mends her wounds, healing the elf back to pre-combat state. He then closes with the kobold leader.

Exposing himself to attack, Corso is the recipient of an assault by the lead kobold. The blade stabs the sickly cleric, hurting him, and then the kobold leader begins to withdraw, circling around the elven monk.

Tia grins approvingly at Corso when the priest’s magic causes her injuries to knit; barely a moment later she winces as he draws unwanted attention and takes a wound himself.

Chasing after his attacker seems unwise, however, so she instead darts after the spear-less kobold seemingly abandoned by its leader and tries to put it out of everyone’s misery.
