Bandits of Immenwood | Before the Dawn

Wherever you were on Golarion, near or far, you each received a missive from Kreighton Shaine, Master of Scrolls. In so many words, it asked you to report to the Nexus House in Quantium, the first Pathfinder Lodge built away from Absalom. The purpose of your mission? delivering a magical sapphire (enclosed in Kyra's letter) and obtaining other age-old information in exchange.

Your journey to Nex was likely quite long, whether you arrived separately or as a group. Thankfully, it was paid for by documents and coin included with the letters. Now you stand as a team just outside the Nexus House. What strangeness lies within?

Ezren | Human Wizard | HP 53 | AC 21* | Perception +9 | Saves: FORT +10 / REFLEX +12 / WILL +11 | Spell Attack +11 (DC 21) | Spells per Day: 5/3/3/2

Ezren arrives in Nex and makes his way to the Nexus House. As he arrives, he withdraws the missive to ensure he is at the right place. He also ponders the meaning behind the summons and the purpose of the task at hand.

"I'm sure someone will shed more light on this. No sense trying to answer questions you don't have answers for." he mutters, more to himself than to anyone else in earshot.

”Droogami”, Kaya's Companion | Female N Medium Kitty Companion 7 | HP 39/39 | AC 24, T 21, FF 18 | CMD 20 | F +7 R +11 W +13; +4 vs. enchantment | Init +6 | Perc +6; low-light vision, scent | Speed 50ft | Active Conditions: Barkskin (+3 AC, 64m), Bull's Strength (+4 str, 5.5m), Greater Magic Fang (+1 hit/dam to all attacks, 5hrs)

Fumbus arrives as well, but stands back a bit as he sees Ezren there first. He mumbles to himself, "I'm as good as dem, def as good. I gots the smotts, I gots the booms, dey need me. Maybe I new, but I gots da same missun, dey gotta lemme help."

The small goblin walks up, his new hair flopping around back and forth. It is quite apparent that he took the mane of some creature and has had it sown into his scalp in a long strip down the middle. But other than that, his signature goggles are pressed tightly around his bulbous eyes and his sharpened teeth jut at odd angles. He nods at the other bookworm, "Hey dere Ezren, travel safe?"

Ezren | Human Wizard | HP 53 | AC 21* | Perception +9 | Saves: FORT +10 / REFLEX +12 / WILL +11 | Spell Attack +11 (DC 21) | Spells per Day: 5/3/3/2

Ezren looks to the new arrival then back to his paper. He then does a double-take to ensure he eyes aren't deceiving him.

"Hmmm...yes. Travel? Ah yes, it was good. Yes. You?" he stutters a bit, caught off guard by the outlandish appearance of the tiny goblin. On his second look at the goblin, he looks him up and down slowly with a look of...curiosity?

”Droogami”, Kaya's Companion | Female N Medium Kitty Companion 7 | HP 39/39 | AC 24, T 21, FF 18 | CMD 20 | F +7 R +11 W +13; +4 vs. enchantment | Init +6 | Perc +6; low-light vision, scent | Speed 50ft | Active Conditions: Barkskin (+3 AC, 64m), Bull's Strength (+4 str, 5.5m), Greater Magic Fang (+1 hit/dam to all attacks, 5hrs)

Fumbus gives a bit of a surprised look that the tall human is actually engaging him back in conversation.

It takes him a second but he blerbs out, "Uh... yer twas fine. Well mebbie nawt, pak o worgs tacked carevan. Hadta tossa cuppla bombs scare em way."

Merisiel shows up twirling her rapier. "How delightful. Never been to Nex before!" She glances around the room. "Where's my GF? She get sent on ANOTHER mission somewhere else? That girl is so popular for how moody she is." Merisiel makes a show of looking around the room in places someone couldn't reasonably fit, gently pushing people aside with the flat of her rapier. "KYRA? Darling? Where did our Pathfinder buddies take you off to now?"

Whistling is heard and then Valeros is seen approaching. Hello, friends! Ah, Quantium... Nothing like a port city. Have you seen the hanging gardens? His question doesn't seem addressed to anyone in particular. Port cities always seem to have some of the best taverns. Maybe it's because of the sailors. He shrugs and then seems to notice the rogue for the first time. Merisiel! You're looking lovely as always. He makes a half-bow.

”Doc Featherton” | Female CN Medium Human Gunslinger (Way of the Drifter) 3 | HP 32/32 | AC 20 | F +7 R +11 W +9 | Perc +9 | Default Exploration (????) | Speed 25ft | Active Conditions: None | Hero Points: 0/3

"Ah, you all again." Amiri says walking into the room. She then catches a glimpse of the goblin. "You are new to the group. Just make sure to toss your bombs at the correct targets and me and you will get along just fine." She says patting the goblin on top of the head.

"Seems pretty straightforward this time doesn't it. Deliver jewel, make nice with a VC and gathers some books. Seems perfect for you Ezren. Try to contain your excitement when you see all of the books." She says chuckling to herself.

An impish smile on her face, Kyra sidles into the room behind Merisiel.

Bandits of Immenwood | Before the Dawn

As most of you talk among yourselves, Kyra searches for Merisiel and vice versa. The Qadiran finds the elf looking for her in a tiny broom closet. But they aren't alone! A bronze-skinned gnome with bright streaks of gold in her dark hair is also hiding inside. She wears a vibrant red tunic and enough glittering earrings, bangles, and necklaces to supply a modestly sized jewelry store. "Oh, hello there!" Her own grin is impish enough that you wonder about using searing light. "You can't be the only Pathfinders to come along. Let's meet your team!"

The gnome leads Kyra and Merisiel back into the massive antechamber, where everyone else stands. "There are my honored guests! I was concluding some urgent business here, or I would have met you at the dock. Sebnet Sanserkoht, at your service." She gives you a gracious bow and another large smile. "Alas, my last-minute business didn’t permit me to review Kreighton Shaine’s letters to me. If you don’t mind, please remind me how I can help you and — oh! — I ought to know your names as well. Rude of me to have omitted proper introductions."

Picture of Sebnet is now on the slides. Introduce yourselves as nicely or otherwise as you'd like, but you can try to Make an Impression.

Hello, Vash-Vatom Sanserkoht! I am Valeros and am pleased to make your acquaintance. Valeros bows. Forgive me for saying so, but you're even more beautiful than I was told. We're here to conduct some research on the Pathfinder history. Specifically, uh... He nods at the wizard. Ez, you were going to share the details I think?

Ezren | Human Wizard | HP 53 | AC 21* | Perception +9 | Saves: FORT +10 / REFLEX +12 / WILL +11 | Spell Attack +11 (DC 21) | Spells per Day: 5/3/3/2

Ezren nods at Valeros.

"Thank you, my friend." offers the wizard, nodding at Valeros. "I would be more than happy to elaborate further on our mission at hand."

Turning to Sebnet, Ezren offers a greeting in line with her background and society. He ponders the intricacies of proper etiquette to ensure he doesn't slip and deliver a faux pas.

"Greetings esteemed and honorable Vash-Vatam Sanserkoht. I am Ezren and these are my colleagues from Absalom. We have traveled long and far to seek an audience with you at the behest of our Venture Captain Kreighton Shaine. We hope our meeting proves to be mutually beneficial as Master Shaine offers information you seek. In exchange, we seek your aid in recovering information in your archives here in Quantium. We humbly beseech your hospitality and assistance to fulfill our quest." offers Ezren in a most diplomatic manner, bowing respectfully at the beginning and end of his oration.

Diplomacy check: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (14) + 9 = 23

"I believe a member of our group has the information in the form of a gem that is to be proffered to you." offers Ezren as he looks to the group to produce the sapphire.

Fumbus just stands there like a stone, mesmerized as the gorgeous mane of the lady flows so naturally as she moves.

When Exren ends his careful oratory, Fumbus's fingers gracefully retrieve the note and he opens it, finding the gem inside. He glances through and sees the section about her title.

Attempting to fit in, he holds the gem up and his head down while speaking the following slowly, "Here the info, oh great and maghty Vash Vatahm."

Merisiel spins around as she notices Kyra behind her. ”My GF!” She says it as one word, like “geef.” ”There you are! You’ve gotten better at hiding. My influence, I think.” She follows up with a peck on Kyra’s cheek. Her “GF” found, she finally turns her attention back to the rest of the room. ”Hi to you, too, Val! Mullet’s looking good today.”

Merisiel waits for her turn at introductions, then crosses her arms and leans against a pillar, brandishing a cockeyed smile. ”’sup.”

Your shorter responses don't look to impress the Vash-Vatom. However, she seemed happy to see you anyway, and Ezren's tact only reinforces that. At the gem's appearance, she is most excited. "Why, thank you! No doubt Shaine sent his most experienced and eloquent. Now, let me see what I can get for you..." She snatches a proffered letter and reads it quickly.

Sebnet taps her chin with a ringed finger. "Those records are likely quite old, which would put them in our Orrery Archive. Please come this way." The Venture-Captain strides through one of the archways off the great hall, gesturing for you to follow and chatting as she goes. "There was something of an astronomy craze around here about three hundred years ago, but the apparatus at the center of the rooms that became the Orrery Archive has been gathering dust for quite a while. That is, it would, if we didn’t have enchantments to repel dust." Sebnet runs a finger along a decorative table as she passes, then holds up her clean digit to showcase her point.

"I’ll take you to the archive entrance and leave you to perform your research in peace. Gather any records you need, and we’ll have scribes transcribe copies of whatever you find. The records might be something of a jumble, I’m afraid. As I said, the Orrery Archive is where we store older records, and they might not have been accessed in quite some time. While we’re walking, do you have any questions?"

"Have the upheavals north of the Inner Sea affected you here?"

Sovereign Court

I might not be totally on top of all that (played Siege of Gallowspire and am working my way through Passing the Torch). Are there any other big developments? I assume the ones I know of are the prominent bits.

"Less than many other places, but as much as you might expect. The whole world is bracing for new struggles." Sebnet looks ready to chuckle, but hangs her head a little instead. "The Society in particular is reeling., obviously. I assume your being sent here is relevant, as the damaged yet unbroken Grand Lodge is seeking aid from others."

Ezren | Human Wizard | HP 53 | AC 21* | Perception +9 | Saves: FORT +10 / REFLEX +12 / WILL +11 | Spell Attack +11 (DC 21) | Spells per Day: 5/3/3/2

Ezren nods as Sebnet states the obvious fact. He looks solemn as the task of rebuilding seems monumental at the moment. But no time for being melancholy.

Fumbus speaks, breaking Ezren from this thoughts. He cocks his head at the question.

He quietly asks Fumbus, "Do you mean Durvin? Durvin Gest?"

Kyra nods somberly, memories of the fallen haunting her. "The Whispering Tyrant left his mark on all of Absalom. For now, knowing that this place still stands and thrives is enough." She brightens a little. "The information we've come for will help us a great deal, though."

"Droven? The half-orc? Oh, I've heard good things about him. I believe he returned from his mission at sea, heard tell you were on your way here. But like many other agents, he was sent to the Gravelands! Don't worry, if anyone could make it out there, it's him. I assume he'll be gone for some time, though."

The Graveland huh. Now that is a place I would like to go. A bunch of undead to make dead again." Amiri says a bit too loud, following behind the other scholarly types. Nice trick with the dust. You got something that can repel blood?"

Hanging back with Amiri, Valeros chuckles at the idea of repelling blood. Now that would be something. Maybe it could even blind our enemies. He occasionally lifts a hand and straightens out the hair covering his neck when it seems no one is looking.

"Our enchantments slowly wick away at the byproducts of battle. Quite useful, considering how often some agents track blood inside after a mission. Ah, here we are!" Sebnet stops at the end of the narrow passage, which widens into a massive open space. In the room's center lies a gigantic model of the solar system, complete with details as fine as moons and moving comets. Statues of scholarly humans (and one scholarly ogre) dot the floor. The chamber is a mishmash of different architectural concepts, and bears bookcases, stairs, balconies, and curios. "Pathfinders, the Orrery Archive!"

"I'll admit to not being much use in here. I had an assistant for this up until recently, but he's moved on to another position. Still, do shout if you think I can help!" The Vash-Vatom jangles away, leaving you alone in the Archive.

Okay, here’s the deal: As you can see on the map, sections of the library have skills assigned to them. In each phase (an hour long), you can each go to one section and perform the relevant check. Once anyone has tried a specific check, regardless of success, no one can try that section again. You can, however, double up using Aid if you want.

In each phase, please place your mini in the general area of the check you’re doing. I doubt you’ll have many bonuses that last the full hour, but sound off if you do and want to use them. And of course, ask questions when this inevitably gets confusing!

List of Skills:
  • Acrobatics: Balance on stone worn so smooth as to be slippery.
  • Arcana: Activate an enchanted table to help you find relevant text.
  • Athletics: Heft up collapsed bookshelves in search of pertinent information.
  • Lore (Scribing, PFS, or similar): Pare through poorly organized shelves dedicated to similar topics.
  • Nature: Operate the orrery to make its arms swing towards what you seek.
  • Occultism: Piece together disparate pieces of information.
  • Society: Navigate a series of confusing filing systems.
  • Survival: Look for clues on recent library use where the dust-busting enchantments seem to have broken down.
  • Thievery: Disable a complex latch protected a magical case full of books.
  • Phase One: (bold may act)
    Amiri
    Ezren

Fumbus has the following skills at good modifiers: Acrobatics +11, Athletics +8, Lore (PFS) +11 w/ a one time +2 bonus for an hour, Society +11, Survival +7, Thievery +11.

Fumbus quickly zips around, looking at the options. He stops and points excitedly at the bookshelves, "Oooh, Oooh, Oooh! I wanna look threw dose." He wrings his hands in glee, "Most gobbos are idyut an dun have clue how much good in book!"

He would like to do or attempt to Aid the Lore section. I believe Aid's are often DC 20, right? Do we know how many hours we have to do this?

Valeros walks around a bit and whistles. Ez, we're never going to be able to get you to leave. I'm happy to help, but I'm not sure I'll know what we're looking for when I see it... "Unfortunately I must be quite selective in the studies that I pursue, good Valeros. I have no elven blood and my years on Golarion are stretching quite thin. If I had an abundance of time, I would study at by leisure, but alas..." begins Ezren as he pontificates on his mortal coil.

As Ezren sees Valeros casually lift the bookcases with apparent ease, he reacts quite excitedly. "God's teeth man! That bookcase must have weighed hundreds of pounds. You lifted it with ease!" offers Ezren, clearly impressed at the feat. He simply shakes his head and offers his leave of Valeros. "You obviously need no further aid. I will be off then."

Ezren makes his way to a room more suited to his skills and aptitude.

Kyra follows Fumbus, helping the goblin reach taller shelves and passing him relevant material.

    Scribing Lore (Aid): 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11

The shelves Valeros picked up with ease bear fruit: they hold the location of the material related to Durvin Gest’s Mwangi expeditions! These are the specific records Kreighton Shaine wants, but they also include references to the Open Road Pact: some sort of agreement between Durvin Gest, Selmius Foster, Gregaro Voth, and Kerinha Napsunar when they were all in the Mwangi Expanse together. None of you have heard of this Open Road Pact in the Grand Lodge, meaning Shaine will likely want to know more about it. Unfortunately, the referenced folio detailing the Pact isn't here.

Merisiel easily bypasses the simple mechanism. Several files behind the now-unlocked glass case are also pertinent. Namely, a catalog of the records here that reference “Kerinha Napsunar”. However, none of the associated files with the name inside are in the area.

After being notified of their existence, Amiri digs up the location of the Open Road Pact folio. She zeroes in on exactly where it should be filed, only to find it isn't here either! Not likely due to clerical error, though: a large swath of files is missing from the same shelf. The others that should be there are all related to Nexian ooze-crafting. Perhaps they were unwittingly taken as a group?

You're about to be interrupted, but I'd like to know everyone's actions, for placing and to reduce complication. Fumbus is gaining no bonus or penalty from Kyra's aid.

Ezren, hearing clashing sounds nearby, heads for the nearest confrontation. He hustles as quickly as his tired legs will take him. As he approaches the elevated railings near Valeros and his recently righted bookcases, he sees the cause of the din. A statue come to life?!?

Thinking quickly, Ezren launches his staff using a clever focused attack he learned as an apprentice. The weapon hurls at his foe with tremendous force!

    Cast Hand of the Apprentice, Focus Spell, 1 Action: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28

    Damage from Staff, 2-Handed, Bludgeoning: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (8, 8) + 4 = 20

Move Action, Move Action, Focus Spell Attack on Green Statue (1-Action)

Valeros grunts as the statue's fist smacks into his side and then laughs. Now this is more like it! He draws his longsword in one hand, his shield in the other and slashes at the statue.

    longsword: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (2) + 16 = 18
    damage, slashing: 2d8 + 4 ⇒ (3, 8) + 4 = 15

Draw sword, Draw shield, Attack with longsword
Will use Reactive Shield reaction if attacked again.
If Ezren's attack takes out the green statue I'll move to the red statue.

Ezren's throw strikes true, denting the construct but but not breaking anything vital. As such, its still-intact armor turns away the sword swing by a hair.

    Merisiel
    Amiri

    Statues (green -14)
    Kyra
    Ezren
    Valeros
    Fumbus -10 (grabbed)

Merisiel moves into a flank with Valeros, striking at the statue twice.

She has quick draw, so she can draw her off-hand weapon as part of the Strike action

    Strike with +1 striking rapier: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (7) + 14 = 21
    Rapier Damage (sneak attack): 2d6 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (1, 6) + 4 + (3, 6) = 20

    Strike with +1 striking dagger (second attack, agile): 1d20 + 14 - 4 ⇒ (2) + 14 - 4 = 12
    Dagger Damage (sneak attack): 2d4 + 4 + 2d6 ⇒ (4, 1) + 4 + (5, 1) = 15

As he is struck and wrapped up, fumbus just does what he does... set things on fire. Squeezing his little warty hand into a pocket and retrieving a small explosive device, he lights and flips it at the nearest enemy. He starts cackling at the expected explosion.

Quick Bomber, Strike Purple if up, Red if down. He chooses to only hit the one targeted with the splash. If attack misses, the target is still hit by the splash.

    Alchemist Fire: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17 for Fire: 2d8 + 1 ⇒ (8, 8) + 1 = 17 + 3 Persistent + 4 Splash

    If grappled:
    Flat 5 to use interact while grabbed: 1d20 ⇒ 14 Then Fumbus attempts to break the grapple with Acrobatics to Escape - MAP: 1d20 + 11 - 5 ⇒ (5) + 11 - 5 = 11

    If not grappled:
Step back away from enemies before throwing bomb.

Amiri turns another statue into a dummy by breaking it into a hundred pieces! Fumbus hurls fire, but his target doesn't even seem to mind the splash. Merisiel's rapier stabs through her foe's armor, while her knife just bounces off.
