You manage to shake off the room's influence and can act normally this round. You sense the room's supernatural energy is still present at the edges of your senses and could reemerge against others or yourselves, given enough time.

The extreme cold helps, but you still feel like you burning. You're compelled to try to remain in the liquid (and you can attempt another Will save.

Regaining some measure of their senses, Puzzle looks around the pool. Noticing most of their companions exiting the pool or slowly coming around, the android makes their way over to Kit and attempts to rouse the goblin.

"Kit! Kit! It is not real. You need to get out of the pool!" Puzzle calls, shaking the goblin.

Shaking his head to clear his mind Wyrd goes through the options of permanently shutting this down and comes up empty.

Seeing Kit give in to the effects while the rest of the party seems to have shaken of what's going on Wyrd focuses his mind on Kit and tries to superimpose his own believes over what Kit's experiencing for a short time

before remembering to get out of the pool since even his own weird physique can't stand the unnatural cold without it getting distracting for that long.

I'm not sure if I was 100% clear in my previous post. My intention was that Puzzle stayed to try and rouse Kit - I'm not sure if that is possible, but will spend the actions/turn required to do so. If Puzzle has any actions remaining, I would like to use to either move or potentially an Inspiring Boost.

Does that mean they will take another hit of damage for remaining in the pool? (I am not content if that is the case)


Fire Starters Loot

Kit doesn't seem to be willing (or able) to leave the pool of his own accord. Nomyra (and others) can attempt to physically remove Kit from the super-cool liquid, but attempting to do so would involve taking more damage from being in contact with the pool. Given what Kit believes to be happening to him, he won't be coming willingly.

Nomyra can attempt an appropriate combat manuever check, such as grapple, bull rush, or reposition, to remove Kit from the liquid. Puzzle can inspiring boost Kit to take away some of the damage taken, but it seems like you're looking for Mysticism or spells to end the effect. Lacking success in those areas, the supernatural effect likely will continue to affect Kit until he departs the room, he manages to shake off the effect, or it (super)naturally subsides.

Meanwhile, Wyrd is unable to suppress the supernatural energy in the room. Vedrir shouts encouragement over his shoulder as he removes himself from the situation.

Kit:
Feel free to add +4 to subsequent Will saves thanks to the party's insistence that this isn't really happening.

Oops, just noticed my typo - was meant to say I am content with taking damage in the attempt to rouse Kit. (Had originally written "I am not bothered ..." or something like that, and then rephrased)

So this round will be: 1. Try to rouse Kit. 2. Move from pool. 3. Possibly take damage?

Sounds good. It's only a move action to move out of the pool so you can do something else with the standard if you want. You mentioned inspiring boost, which would be fine.

Nomyra reaches over and manages to grab Kit (with some circumstance bonuses) and together she and Puzzle are able to wrestle him out of the pool. You'll be able to remove Kit from the room next round even if he remains compelled by the supernatural energy of the room, effectively ending the imminent danger to the party.

"No! Sun burning!" Kit struggles, but is no match for his more imposing allies as they drag him from the room. Once out of the room, his struggles lessen, then stop. "Sun not burning anymore? That good! Now let gowa me. Kit gonna smell like Nomyra, then everything try to eat me too!"

Thanks for saving his easily-influenced bacon! Goblin + mechanic does not a good Will save make. With Puzzle's boost, Kit is back to full strength.

Sure Vedrir has 4 serums, but did the dmg go through your SP? Vedrir can attempt to heal you again with Treat Wounds, a slim chance and a 4 HP back on the success, but I was under impression that we are only down by SP.

After recovering from the haunted room, the party squeezes into the four-person elevator. With Kit's modifications, the elevator descends in a rush! After a few seconds it slows, stops, and the door opens.

The earthy stink of hot concrete fills this stark room. Overhead, a bare red bulb illuminates the area. A steel door labeled “Supply” stands closed to the north. Controls blink softly next to the elevator doors. A short weapon rack squats to the southeast.

For this level, unless otherwise stated, the ceilings are twelve feet tall. The Brass Dragons keep this basement very hot - it's about 120 degrees F (about 49 degrees C). I assume everyone has environmental protections in their armor activiated - let me know if you don't. The rooms are lit at a normal level by industrial lighting that glows an fiery red.

Coming out of the elevator, Puzzle spots two sentry guns drop down from the ceiling to the northwest and southwest, trained on the elevator!

If investigating the security camera:

After investigating the security camera, the party (aka Kit, and potentially Puzzle) realizes that there's no automatic link to the guns, meaning the guns were likely manually activated as the elevator arrived.

Now that the party isn't being shot at, a quick look at the weapons rack to the southeast (in the main area) reveals several weapons that are in need of cleaning or minor repairs. Those in working order include:
- Three autotarget rifles
- One tactical Diasporan rifle (Alien Archive 99) with a sniper scope (Armory 61)
- Two longswords
- Two uniclamps (Armory 61)

The party now has at least four doors to choose from, and looking down the eastern hallway reveals that at some point the tunnel/hall is blocked by rubble, fused in places as if by intense heat.

Puzzle, Wyrd:

You hear the faint sounds of music coming from down the hallway and then to the south. You imagine if you were closer, the music would be very loud.

Vedrir goes through the equipment. He grabs one uniclamp and mounts it on his needle rifle. Then he attaches to it a flashlight.

"Finally, you can never have enough of free hands. So where do we want to go?"

After peaking out of the elevator to check if everything is save enough now to step outside Wyrd tilts his head

"I'm hearing faint sounds of music coming from down the hallway and then to the south. I imaging that there's a loud party happening there and the only reason we ain't going deaf is because there's at least one door between us and there."

"If we rest we should do it now, I can't think of a reason why someone would play music without anyone around to listen to it so we can expect someone as soon as we open that door" Wyrd points over his shoulder at the door he's talking about.

I'm a little worried about resting re: that manually-triggered gunfire (read the 'investigating the camera' spoiler above if you haven't). I think we should at least retreat back a little ways to do it.

"I agree with Kit," Puzzle says, sounding a little winded. "Someone was controlling the guns. They know we are here."

Grabbing an autotarget rifle, the android slips it over a shoulder. "Perhaps it would be wise to move away from the music if we are seeking somewhere quiet to catch our breath?" they ask, gesturing to the northern door, palm up.

Kit picks up one of the autotarget rifles as well, hefting it and grinning before slinging it over his shoulder. The unfamiliar weight of it almost topples him, but he regains his footing and goes back to rummaging. Picking up the other uniclamp, he examines it briefly before nodding and sticking it in his pocket. Finally, he picks up the sniper rifle. "Anyone want?"

If someone wants that other uniclamp, Kit is happy to hand it over to them. Otherwise, he will use it to attach his fire extinguisher to his ice carbine. Similarly, if someone wants that sniper rifle, go for it. Otherwise, he'll tinker with it while people rest, removing the sniper scope and attaching it to another weapon where it will be more useful (his, or someone else's if anyone would like it and generally has move actions to spare).

You recognize this area as military supply depot.

In the center of the room, a small fire-adapted earth elemental stands facing the door. Two doors, one to the south and one in the southeast corner, provide exits. Another is to the west, where a hole large enough to walk through has been melted through the concrete wall, revealing a tunnel beyond.

Inside the tunnel, an azer man wearing a black collar and black-and-red graphite carbon skin armor with pauldrons with the Brass Dragons logo on them (seemingly added to the uniform after the fact) wields a thunderstrike sonic pistol.

Wyrd remembers that earth elementals with the fire-adapted quality lose their earth mastery ability but gain an immunity to fire, in addition to their normal elemental immunities (immune to bleed, critical hits, paralysis, poison, sleep effects, and stunning). Wyrd also recalls that azers are elementals from the Plane of Fire; like the azer you faced on the Breath of Embers, this azer will have immunity to fire and spell resistance.

He speaks a quick phrase and fires at Nomyra in the door!

Puzzle's shot hits the azer. An energy shield around the azer crackles as the dart hits, and a bolt of forces flies back at Puzzle!

Puzzle takes five force damage

As the bolt of force flies back at Puzzle, Nomyra rushes forward and punches the azer! Moving Nomyra to be on the enemy that attacked her from the tunnels. Likewise, Kit uses Puzzle's encouragement and Nomyra's coordinated shot to land his shot as well.

The earth elemental moves toward Nomyra, trying to protect the azer. It swings a rocky fist!

Vedrir raises his microlab and scans the earth elemental

Then he raises his Hail pistol and shoots the elemental

Wyrd draws deep from within himself and throws an orb of cold at the azer after moving to the position from which he can attack.

Vedrir's scan reveals a lot of information about the creature!

As Wyrd stated, it's a fire-adapted earth elemental. Wyrd already stated most of the relevant information, but they also have darkvision and blindsense (vibration) 60 feet, a normal move speed and a burrow speed, and typically speak Terran. The ones of small size, like this one, normally only have a small to medium amount of health.

Though his scan was successful, Vedrir's shot was less so. Wyrd, on the other hand, manages to hit the azer with his orb of cold. It's super effective!

The azer falls to the ground and is still. An instant later, a small, solid red light appears on the side of the azer's necklace.

Actually, this black collar looks different. Now that you think about it, this black collar resembles the black collar that Koshnar, the azer on the Breath of Embers wore. The party was fighting Koshnar back on page 5 of the Gameplay thread, one year ago to the day today.

"That one wears a collar," Puzzle calls to their companions. "Try to keep clear until we know more of what it does."

The android turns their attention to the elemental, watching to see how it will respond to its companion's demise.

Should it appear that it will continue hostilities, Puzzle will move into a better position and fire a dart at the elemental.
