Raseri Whitescale |
Raseri huffs and brings down the lightning again.
Damage, DC 13 Dex for half: 4d10 ⇒ (10, 10, 3, 5) = 28
She then calls for Deimus to get back on his feet.
Healing Word (2nd): 2d4 + 2 ⇒ (2, 1) + 2 = 5
Deimus is healed for 2 after getting halved since he's a gearforged.
Action to call down the lightning again.
Carnadine |
Carnadine shakes his head when Deimus gets ripped to gears. He should have stayed with that brave warrior. The knight captain incorporeal leaves Lexi and moves adjacent to Deimus and the Alemaiden preparing to attack in case the creature flies by.
When the crack of a second lightning bolt thunders, he smiles his toothy wolf-like smile. Hopefully, Thor's power can knock some confidence back into his Thorsdottir to get her groove back.
Deimus |
Under a buck... Precious!
Deimus fizzes back online as the magic heals enough for its tubes to function: "That fancy dear is sure sensitive about its privates..."
He gets up on his feet, feeling what must be anger spark through him as he focuses again on the creature and says: "They are smaller than usual, no?"
Vicious Mockery, Wis DC 16 psychic and disadvantage on next attack roll: 2d4 ⇒ (2, 2) = 4

Lexi moved closer and flung another dagger at the Peryton.

Hrungnir's magics manifest as a duo of frosty hammers, spiraling in a bizarre random pattern before seeking direct into the heart of the beast without fail.
Below you watch Kjeta and Raseri, now quite accustomed to working together in such situations, get the weight on the end of a lever spinning again inside the life siphon...while their prayers funnel a dose of pure positive energy to the kobold's soul.
But Raseri's eyes (full of a strange light) never leave the monstrosity above, bringing down another surge of electricity from what you can only assume is Thor.
Dex vs Raseri: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (9) + 6 = 15
Carnadine uses the blinding flash of Raseri's bolt to shift his tactics, joining the team from the side and readying a strike for any opportunity. Lexi meanwhile makes another desperate throw straight into the air that ultimately goes nowhere.
Deimus, awake again, can only add injury to insult as he shifts the topic of conversation to the size (rather than the economics) of the deer's balls...
Wis vs Deimus: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
Another Legendary Resistance to succeed
...but the subtlety of the joke is lost in translation perhaps. It eyes over the group in irritation before pulling its wings in tight, falling with tremendous speed...

Wrath of the Storm!
As the monster crashes into her, Raseri lets out a howl that is drowned in thunder. Arcs of lightning crackle all around her before flashing blue-white and casting the shadowy forest into stark black and white.
Wrath of the Storm (DEX DC13 for half): 2d8 ⇒ (3, 1) = 4 And Raseri's abysmal luck returns.
Deimus |
Deimus moves over to where Kjeta and Raseri are standing, not wanting to be left an isolated target. Meanwhile, he maintains his hatred focus at the Peryton, making it feel small and inadequate for reproduction.
Vicious Mockery, Wis DC 16 psychic and disadvantage on next attack roll: 2d4 ⇒ (1, 1) = 2

Timing the crash, he slashes back and forth with his terrible silver sword drawing a bit of blood.

GM Infinity |
Hrungnir, its the Peryton's turn...about to fly away again. I was just waiting for Carn since he readied, then fell asleep without posting last night.
Carn, unfortunately when you Ready an attack you only get one, since its a reaction. Extra Attack can only happen on your turn, similar to OA.
As the peryton descends upon Raseri, the knight swings...but his timing was just a tad too short. This beast...it moved with tremendous, unnatural speed.
With everyone bunched up together, it spreads its carnage over all...
Gore Carnadine: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20

Talons Raseri: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (8) + 9 = 17
Slashing: 2d10 + 5 ⇒ (1, 9) + 5 = 15
...but after a lot of claws and antlers, it leaps back into the sky, only cutting open a large slash across Raseri's face as it ascends.
Back up 60 ft. Hrungnir, go ahead and change your actions. Deimus, I will assume you dont change yours. So all but Deimus up.
Kjeta Strongmalt |
Kjeta watches the great fey beast closely, and takes a slug of ale to quiet her nerves.
In a whisper, she says "I'll try to confuse it, next time it dives down low. If it works, let's dogpile the thing!"
Use object: Blessed Brew for +1 to DC of Charms.
Ready action to cast Confusion (DC 17 Will) after it has flown down next round, but before it gets to actually gore or claw.
*Lexi |
Watching how the creature behaves, Lexi readies herself to move and leap onto the creature's back.
Carnadine |
Think that gore attack against Carn hits
The dhampir grits his teeth when the creature gores him drawing his thin blood. He shakes his head refusing to abandon his favorite fighting tactics.
He readies to strike the creature when it attacks again.
Raseri Whitescale |
The Peryton also needs to make a Dex save versus Ras's Wrath of the Storm reaction.
Raseri staggers on her feet as she is gored and clawed by the beast.
Concentration 1 DC 10: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Call lightning fizzles.
Raseri looks up as the stormclouds fade, scattered by the winds. Fine, if this monster wants to mock her by flying over her head, she'd fill it with arrows. Lightning crackles around her as she prays for strength. She takes aim at the creature, then lets fly.
Dropping her maul and drawing her longbow.
Healing word (2nd) on herself.
Bow shot on the creature.
Longbow v. Peryton: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (2) + 3 = 5
She watches with dismay as the shot flies off into the night.

However, Kjeta's trigger was to happen before it came close enough to actually gore.

Thanks...missed the first -19 in the accounting. 3 it is. I should just stop trying to DM. *burns DM screen*
You're fine. I've been having a blast, which is more than I can say for another game I'm in.
GM Infinity |
Hru, when you Ready you can't take bonus actions or Extra attack. So just using first attack from up there.
Having seen Carnadine's wise tactic played out, the others joined in the fun...Hrungnir had wound up his massive swing before any others, cracking a few rib bones as it assaulted Raseri.
Peryton 30/230 hp, AC 17
*Lexi |
Athletics: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21 I'm presuming this is a grapple check, opposed by it's choice of str (athletics) or dex (acrobatics).
Lexi snatches at one of the Peryton's wings and tries to hold on, using her weight to slow it down.
Carnadine |
The creature returns within reach of the knight captain incorporeal within reach of his sword. Timing the crash, he slashes with his silver sword missing completely.

Lexi, roll another contest using Athletics. If successful, the peryton is grounded and the party will likely slaughter the beast... ;)
Raseri Whitescale |
Raseri draws her greatsword and lightning crackles all over her as she raises it up to behead the beast.
Attack (Greatsword, Booming Blade): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16 ... Are you kidding me.
Kjeta Strongmalt |
"Great work, Lexi!" Kjeta shouts.
Her flying tankard hits it in the ribs, knocking the Peyton flat on the ground. The Alemaiden takes advantage of the moment, lifting up her Tankard-lellagh and bringing it down on the stag's skull, crushing it in splinters of bone and blood.
"There. It's done."

This vile creature had no place stalking the Queen's forest...but will certainly sate the hound's appetite for venison. Perhaps better washed down with a swig of brew.
Oh ho ho! The hunter is victorious. :)
Unless there's anything else you would like to do out here, we can return to the palace. It will be early evening and we can play out the tournament scene. I believe Lexi challenged the roachling.
Deimus |
"I'm no longer into those kinds of thingsz, but I bet the meat on that beast will attract wanted attention, no? In any casze, I suggest we make a grand entrance when returning with our legendary creature. I mean, it's legendary parts, not those that are subpar..." offers Deimus looking at the defeated foe that almost brought him low, if not for his clutchmates.
"And thank you. I wasz done but for you."
Raseri Whitescale |
Raseri is quiet as he Peryton falls. It was only thanks to the actions of the others that she is still standing. With shaking hands she grabs the holy symbol around her neck and tries to mend some of her wounds.
Cure Wounds (Level 1) Raseri: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 2 = 10
Cure Wounds (Level 1) Deimus: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Is anyone else hurt?
Hrungnir |
Hrungnir was silent as he regarded the fallen beast. ”If this is what they hunt, what chance does anyone have against their invasion?” He said, quietly. ”This is...” He shook his head and stopped before he said anything he would regret.
Kjeta Strongmalt |
Kjeta nods to Deimus. "I wager this was the 'venison' that Kolya, the prince's kennelmaster, sent me looking for...though now I wonder if he thought we'd really bring it back. At any rate, perhaps it'll win us a new ally.
"...And it was Ninkash's blessing that brought you back; I'm just grateful that she allows me to be her channel...and that she shares with me her Good Brews."
Seeing Raseri's mood, the Alemaiden places a hand on the Thorsdottir's back. "The God of Thunder is great, and you do him proud. It filled me with awe to see the way you called his might down upon that Peyton."
Turning to all, she says, "We can drink to our victory back in the Court, surely...but why wait, eh?" Who could use a glass?"
I'm ready to head back now. Kjeta will want to bring the meat to the kennelmaster.
.
Before we go, does anyone trained in Nature (or whatever is the appropriate skill?) who wants to see if there's anything of value to harvest from the body, aside from the meat? (Or have I just been listening to too much Critical Role...I don't know if that's common in 5e, or just in Mercer's games.)
*Lexi |
Lexi releases the creatures wing as it faults, but not before quickly and quietly pocketing a handful of feathers.
Carnadine |
Carnadine wipes his barely bloodied sword on the carcass to clean it before sheathing it. "Good job everyone. Shadow, that an impressive take down. I thought that creature would carry you away for a moment. Thorsdottir brought the lightning. Alemaiden killed with her brew. And, Deimus you are a brave warrior."
He comfortably stands around waiting. While he hunts many times, servants take care and dress the carcass while the nobles praise each other's skill.
Second Wind: 1d10 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
*Lexi |
"Everyone helped equally, and everyone did a good job." Lexi said, the same sickly sweet smile on her face.
GM Infinity |
As you drag the carcass back through the gates, a swarm of goblin and brownie attendants hurry to prepare a wagon to help carry it across Guard's training grounds and back into the Librarium where the kennels (and already salivating pups) await. Kolya the kennel-master is there among the archers training, and spotting the catch with at first only a cursory but satisfied nod he remarks "A 14 pointer...not many left this late in the season...I see you--"
He is cut short as the other men at arms get a closer look and gasp with shock and awe. One corrects "Ha! That's not a stag, Kol, those Midgardians bagged a monstrous old peryton! Goodness f##+!"
From rolling high on survival check and not TPKing of course. +2 Status all.
Deimus |
Deimus picks up on the momentum gathered and says: "It was a worthy foe. Oh, if only you had witnessed our Lexi jump on its back and wrestle it from taking to the sky, so that we could pummel it into submission! Did you know that these creatures are rare mainly because of physiological limitations? I wouldn't have thought so until I witnessed said limitation as it first took to the sky. And they're sensitive beasts too, as it gored me mercilessly to within an inch of my death just because I made an observation about it... Quite the hunt!"
Kjeta Strongmalt |
Earlier
As she helps to prepare the body to bring back to the Court, Kjeta looks it over for anything that might be useful or valuable, beyond the meat.
Survival: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Now
Kjeta grins at Kolya. "Damn right it's a Peryton! Only the best venison for the princes dogs, eh? And beside, we needed a bit of exercise."
OK, seems maybe he wasn't trying to set us up. Good to know.
Raseri Whitescale |
Raseri doesn't feel like a hero or some great hunter as she follows the others back to the castle. She'd nearly died again, and her inability to land any blow is wearing on her. She feels off. True, she is hurt, but this went beyond the wounds suffered.
It is probably nothing, she convinces herself. Nothing more than her own nervousness.
"You give me too much credit. It was not my strength that wounded and slew the beast," she tells the others as they heap praises on her.
Do you mind if I go ahead and kick off the thing we discussed?
Carnadine |
Carnadine watches as the Thorsdottir tries to sneak off. She wasn't very good at pretending to be confident. Nor did she explain her suspicions the ghostly figure that smelled like her of forge smoke and lightning.
With a smile, the knight captain incorporeal points at the peryton, "Look at those two charred marks. The Thorsdottir hit it with two lightning bolts, so the meat underneath there should be well-cooked and ready to serve."
