Barlespin |
Barlespin crawls stealthily along the wall down the hallway.
GM Ietsuna |
Venturing down the hallway Morgan and Barlespin see a collapsed tunnel ahead and a pair of doors to the right.
Barlespin |
Barlespin inspects the door and, if there are any traps, attempts to disable them.

He then opens the door with the keycard if needed, and peeks into the next room, and tries to sneak in if appropriate.

Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes, just wanted to move things along a bit.

Next map is up
A large metal desk with blinking lights and strange glowing panels sits atop a raised area on the east side of this room near a circular table. Two couches covered with black material sit to the south a pair of black metal pillars. Splatters of dried blood stain the floor and walls near a pair of doors to the north, while here and there patches of rust-red mold and fungus cling to the southern wall. The room itself is brightly lit by glowing panels on the ceiling.
GM Ietsuna |
Morgan notices lines of garbled text running across a flat panel on the desk. Intermittently pictures flash up for a moment. They appear to be of strange four armed humanoids and other creatures that you don't recognise.
Barlespin |
From a safe distance, Barlespin observes the rust-colored mold and fungus, trying to discern if it poses a threat.
Knowledge(dungeoneering): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17 Another +2 to identify alien monsters' abilities/weaknesses)
GM Ietsuna |
Barlespin is unable to identify the creatures in the pictures.
In terms of Comprehend Languages, it is 10 minutes for level. You have been in here for a while at this point so it would have expired
Watanabe cannot make out the text either.
Morgan rifles the lockers in this room. Inside he finds a fully functional flashlight, three batteries, and 26 silverdisks. One of the lockers contains a small locked security bin. This bin has a white-labeled panel on its surface.
GM Ietsuna |
Flashlight - When activated, a flashlight creates a beam of normal light in a 60-foot cone. It also increases the light level in the area beyond this initial cone by one step, out to a 120-foot cone. It does not increase the light level in normal light or bright light. A flashlight has no effect in areas of magical darkness.
Watanabe Ren |
In terms of Comprehend Languages, it is 10 minutes for level. You have been in here for a while at this point so it would have expired
Keep in mind that I cast it right before we fought the zombies and that I cast it caster level 3. Magical knack for +1 CL and arcane beacon for another +1 CL. We would have had to have spent walking something like 20 minutes from the zombie encounter for comp languages to run out.
GM Ietsuna |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Fair enough. I will concede that.
Watanabe can read the text, but it is gibberish and makes no sense.
Barlespin |
Barlespin pulls out his lockpick tools and inspects the bin for traps, then, if safe to proceed, begins working on opening it.

Disable Device(unlock), free inspiration: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 7 + (3) = 19
GM Ietsuna |
Barlespin looks at the box. It does not seem to have any traps. He sets about trying to open it, but has no luck.
Watanabe Ren |
After taking 4 silverdisks Watanabe plays with the flashlight. He casts detect magic I'm sure he finds none. "Fascinating. I wonder how it works. It's brighter than any light I can evoke. Hmm... maybe if I were able to evoke several lights at once and then focus them through a lens. But that would still have an aura."
Morgan Kincade |
"I will carry this box. Maybe we can figure out later how to open it."
"Shall we continue!" Morgan opens the door on the north.
Barlespin |
Barlespin also takes 4 of the silverdisks. He points at the batteries. "May I have one of those?" He begins looking it over with curiosity.
Knowledge(engineering), free inspiration: 1d20 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + (5) = 15
Any idea what this thing might be?
GM Ietsuna |
Barelspin looks down at the battery. It is a silver disk like object. He notices that an identical disk is inserted into a slot in the side of the flashlight.
Barlespin |
But the battery is different from the silverdisk? Also, that earlier roll was to identify the fungus, not the creatures in the pictures. Assuming I don't identify the fungus as dangerous, I will head to that northern door and try to open it, after searching for traps.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
GM Ietsuna |
Yes, silver disks are expended batteries
The fungus is standard, benign fungus.
Barlespin opens the door and looks beyond. Bloodstains mar the floor and walls of this hallway, while scorch marks and smears of ash on the walls evidence some sort of altercation having taken place in this area relatively recently. Four tangled mounds of metal and other materials lie further up the hall, surrounded by strangely colored stains.
Barlespin |
"Oh," Barlespin says as Morgan walks past him, "so we are going into the very scary, blood-splattered hallway. Alright then ..." Barlespin follows, yellow eyes wide.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Sinna Trexl |
Sinna looks over the wizard's shoulder at the text, equally unfamilliar with it meaning, then joins the others in the examination of the light and silver disks, which seem to power it, Curious, I wonder if similar technology powers my body.."
As the others continue into the bloodied passage, she follows, her crossbow at ready...
GM Ietsuna |
Beyond the blood everywhere there is nothing obviously standing out in the hallway.
Barlespin |
Barlespin pulls out his hand crossbow and makes sure it is loaded as the door opens.
GM Ietsuna |
Morgan opens the door onto a bare and nondescript corridor. Several doors lead off.
GM Ietsuna |
This sprawling chamber contains many desks, tables, and chairs arrayed before a number of broken pieces of equipment and machinery. The dried residue of liquids spilled from smashed containers creates a heavy stench in the air, and pieces of glass litter the floor.
Two things scuttle around this room. The look like a taut pustule ready to burst scuttling on a bristle of slick hairs. They head directly towards Morgan.

Barlespin advances to shoot through the doorway.

Zaraith Menstina |
Having been following along behind the group so as to not impede their stealthy approach nearly as much, Zaraith now rushes forwards, moving into the room to interpose himself between the others and the Boilborn. He then readies his swords to swing at the first one that approaches him.

Zaraith Menstina |

Wiping down his sword, Zaraith sheathes it after it becomes apparent that there are no more of the things slopping around the room. When Watanabe heals him, he nods in thanks.
