”We are travelers to her realm. Out in our homeland, we were raised to believe her to be a monster. But in our travels, we have heard quite the opposite from those who have seen her. We come here to learn the truth for ourself. As you can see, we have with us two men of the tales. A bard of great skill, and a Skald of great...eh...inebriation. We have come to beg but a moment of her time to learn the truth. For that is a rare and precious things in days such as this.”
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (14) + 8 = 22
Polyoinos |
Polyoinos nods his garlanded head in agreement;
"Our mighty Shadow Champion has the right of it. We seek an audience with the Queen, as our quest is one of the truth. A truth she may possess and bestow..."
Diplomacy (Aid Another): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28
DM Amazing Red |
"I find that hard to believe as no one in their right mind would travel here of their own free will. No one talks to the Queen even if they seek truth. However we can pass along whatever message u like. But no, even well intentioned visitors are not allowed at this time. Now since you seem trustworthy, you may leave without bloodshed. But I would make it quick, lest my comrade here feast."
The spider-lady rolls her eyes. "You eat one person, and everyone believes you to be a cannibal."
Polyoinos |
Polyoinos shrugs, then addresses the warrior and his host;
"As our Shadow Champion said we have been directed by two tales. One paints your Queen as a monstrous threat. A threat that must be vanquished before the denizens of this realm can be freed from their would-be-shackles. However another tale presents the Queen as a victim of subterfuge, of untruths and has been wrongly blamed for ills wrought by others. Both have credence, as such we would meet with the Queen and hear her tale, and gauge her character."
The skald offers a wistful look, first to his companions, then their questioners;
"That is the crux of it. Should you deem us a threat we will fight, and both sides will suffer grave losses. That would be, however glorious, a waste of talents such as mine own. However if you value the pillars that make us Greeks... countenance, measure and civilised thought, then heed our words and allow us audience!"

”We wish you no harm.” He added. It was only slightly helpful.
DM Amazing Red |
"She is no more a victim than everyone else in this life. But she will change that story. Yes she has made a deal with that Fool-King Jason. In that 24 hour period, she will break the wheel and even the gods will tremble with fear. And once that is done, she will free everyone here and her loyal subjects will take our place on a new Mount Olympus. And I do not mean that silly building of bureaucracy." The man lets out a slight smile.
"Alright, we will take you to our queen for an audience. But you must turn in all weapons and armor. Standard procedure we assure you. We still do not wish to take any chances."
Kyronai |
Kyronai closes his eyes and starts to laugh, the sound a rasping whisper that leaves an uncomfortable feeling on the back of the neck of whomever can hear him. He raises his free hand and gently waves it at the armored warrior.
Kyronai uses a slumber hex on the man. DC 16 Will to resist.
DM Amazing Red |
Will: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (10) + 3 = 13
Kyronai casts his spell and the armored warrior falls to the ground, fast asleep. For a moment the only sounds that are heard are of his snoring. This is interrupted by an inhumane screech. "Deceitful Fools! You have crossed Arachne and you will pay with your lives."

”Stand down, for I have marked you with the Flames of Uzgul. Any hostile actions and you will burn from the inside out. Now stand aside, for it we wanted any of you dead then it would have already been so.”
Worth a shot he thought. At the very least, if he needed to call darkness upon the area the foe would be visible.
DM Amazing Red |
SR: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (15) + 14 = 29
Amphitryon is able to light up the sleeping warrior but his ability does nothing to Arachne. "Faerie Fire? That is adorable. You have the honor of dying first!"
The armored warrior continues to sleep, loudly.
Varocles!
DM Amazing Red |
Sorry about that. Fixed.
Varocles moves and prepares for a physical assault. Arachne decides to wake up her comrade and kicks him with one of her spider legs. "Get up you fool!" The armored warriors opens his eyes. "What happened? Oh good, now I have an excuse to kill them." He replies when he realizes the situation.
Everyone is up except for Varocles.

”Well, I tried to spare you.” Amphitryon quipped as he ran towards Arachne and stabbed her in the abdomen.
Kyronai |
Kyronai sighs in frustration that the slumbering warrior was woken. He fires a web bolt at the man while he's still prone.
DC 15 Reflex to negate; I know that him being prone doesn't make any mechanical difference for this spell.
DM Amazing Red |
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (13) + 2 = 15
Amphitryon lunges forward and is able to just find purchase with his weapon through Arachne's thick hide. Kyronai casts a spell trying to entangle the armored warrior who just barely rolls out of the way of the web bolt. Teledoros starts inspiring the group.
Polyoinos!
Polyoinos |
Polyoinos shakes his garlanded head as things turn violent, but never-the-less joins the fray with gusto - he readies his Longspear, and begins a (Raging) song extolling the virtues of heroism;
Move Action - Retrieve Longspear; Standard Action - Inspired Rage (13/13 Rounds): Allies accepting rage gain +2 morale bonus to Strength and Constitution and a +2 morale bonus on Will saving throws, but also take a –1 penalty to AC.
"Μπορεί να είναι ότι οι κόλποι θα μας πλύνουν κάτω:
Μπορεί να αγγίξουμε τα Happy Isles,
Και δείτε τον μεγάλο Αχιλλέα, τον οποίο γνωρίζαμε.
Ότι έχει ληφθεί πολύ, πολύ μένει. και tho '
It may be that the gulfs will wash us down:
It may be we shall touch the Happy Isles,
And see the great Achilles, whom we knew.
Tho’ much is taken, much abides; and tho’
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are;
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.

DM Amazing Red |
Varocles bravely charges and is also able to land a blow on Arachne. In turn she steps back and casts a spell. Crackling light erupts from her hands and she sends it in a line through Amphitryon, Polyoinos, and Teledoros!
Lightning Bolt DC16 for half: 6d6 ⇒ (6, 6, 6, 1, 1, 6) = 26
Kyronai jumped the gun a little so I will take his action towards this next turn. Polyoinos, Teledoros, and Amphitryon are up and all need to roll a reflex save versus the lightning bolt. Amphitryon also may take an AOO on the armored warrior.
Polyoinos |
DC16 Reflex: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14 Minotaur's balls!
Focussed on his inspiring epic Polyoinos never sees the lighting coming until it is too late! The burly skald is driven to one knee by the bolt that shocks him to his core...
"Zeus' beard that stung! The spider-maid commands the lighting of the gods themselves!"
Undeterred he bellows the chorus to his song anew; (Raging Song - Free Action 2/13)
"Έγινε αδύναμη από το χρόνο και τη μοίρα, αλλά ισχυρή κατά βούληση
Να προσπαθούμε, να αναζητούμε, να βρίσκουμε και να μην αποδίδουμε."
With a roar, Polyoinos advances on the risen warrior and brings his longspear to bear;

Taking the full brunt of the spell, Amphitryon nevertheless turned his full attention to the enemy warrior. He stabbed out with his spear, seeking to end the threat as quickly as possible so they could focus on the monster.
Teledoros |
Reflex: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (18) + 8 = 26
Teledoros twists out of the way, avoiding some of the lightning. 18/31 hp remaining
He keeps on singing, accompanying Polyoinos. Then he takes two shots at Arachne while stepping out of line.

Arrow 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 171d8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
DM Amazing Red |
Kyronai's arrow bounces off Arachne's thick hide while Polyoinos and Amphitryon work together making quick work of the warrior who falls down. Teledoros lets loose with a pair of arrow, one of which embeds itself into Arachne who screeches.

Teledoros |
Teledoros keeps singing. While he does so, he moves up behind Amphitryon and taps him with some healing magic.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Polyoinos |
Polyoinos too moves forward once again signing the chorus to his battle song; 20ft Move Action & Free Action - maintain Raging Song (3/13)

Kyronai is the only party member to land his strike while Varocles and Teledoros do their best to heal the group.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Arachne steps back, a smile curling on her face. "I suggest you heal my dear colleague so he can stand up. You seem like a decent fellow so I think you will agree."
Teledoros needs to make a Will Save DC16 versus suggestion. It is an enchantment spell.

Kyronai |
Conscious that he needs to save his remaining spells for future encounters on their way to Circe, Kyronai opts to fire another arrow.
Realizing that he needs to change his tactic, Kyronai lowers his bow and focuses on the spider creature. Then he starts to inhale.
Casting steal breath. DC 16 Fort negates.
Polyoinos |
Polyoinos continues signing the chorus to his battle song hoping it extolls them to heroic deeds; (Free Action - maintain Raging Song (4/13)

Tele Will: 1d20 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 3 + 2 = 6
Teledoros feels the suggestion to be very reasonable. He lays a hand to heal the armored warrior.
Cure Light Wounds: 1d8 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
He then snaps out of it and realizes what he has done. Amphitryon lands with his strike while Varocles heals the shadow warrior. Kyronai casts a spell trying to take the very breath from Arachne.
SR check: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
However the monster's innate magical resistance stops the spell.
Polyoinos presses the attack but his spear only finds thick hide. The warrior wakes up from mid combat nap. He snarls, standing up and picking up his fallen weapon. Arachne steps back and casts another spell, sending a bolt of dark lightning through Teledoros and Amphitryon.

Amphitryon was lucky that he didn’t take the full brunt of the spell. If he had then it would have knocked him out cold! Still, his teeth tingled and his hair was singed. He couldn’t take another hit like that...
Kyronai |
This battle becoming more perilous every few seconds, Kyronai pulls out all the stops. As he runs forward he inhales again, but this time his spell is contingent on his exhale. His mouth opens wider than it should, and carpet of SPIDERS spews out!
Casting vomit swarm to summon a spider swarm!
The spiders hasten forth, attacking the spider-like creature at Kyronai's mental command.
