Ezren moves away from the statue to put some distance between himself and the club before unleashing a volley of Magic Missiles into the golem.

1 action to move, 2 actions for Magic Missile.

Ezren's missiles slam into the construct. The missiles, though robbed of some of their strength due to the contructs hardness, still manage to push through some damage and dent it.

"Silly, Longshanks. Got to throw bomb at moving statues because moving statues not as easy to hit as other statues. Also, moving statues still tough to break, just like less moving statue are. At least, until cracked." Fumbus explains as his vial of acid flies toward his target.

"See! Book safe! Statue not." the goblin declares as he waves the book about by one of its pages in an effort to show it is presently undamaged.

Fumbus's acid splashes dead center on the statue. The acid seeps into the cracks, and begins to eat away at the moving figurine.

Fumbus deals 4 immediate damage

Despite the damage it has taken, the broken statue turns and begins to swing its arm at Merisiel!

fist attack vs AC22: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 HIT! - Merisiel gains grabbed condition

It manages to slam itself into one of Merisiel, and with a unyielding hand grabs hold of one of Merisiel's arms, even as the acid dissolves the stone within!.

In addition, Merisiel's troubles just doubled, as another statue makes its way into a flanking position!

Meanwhile, our other two heroes have their own problems to deal with, as each has their own opponents to deal with!

One of the Statues swings at Kaneda with a blunt but still heavy stone blade!

However, thinkiing quickly, Kaneda uses the heavy book he is holding to deflect the statue's attacks!

Meanwhile, the statue Ezren is fighting advances and strikes!

Merisiel, if she's being honest, is not loving her current position between the two statuettes. And as a born liberator, she enjoys being restrained even less. Her body aches from the blow, but it's not debilitating. After withstanding the body slam, she mutters, "I applaud the effort marble-mouth, but you'll have to do better than that. My name is Merisiel. Prepare to die."

She twists her arms up, and then pulls sharply down and out, in an attempt to escape the stony grip of the statue.

Acrobatics: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (11) + 14 = 25

She grins as she breaks free, and she makes a quick thrust with her rapier, attacking the same creature that she previously damaged.

Rapier Attack: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (2) + 14 = 16
Rapier Damage: 2d6 + 4 ⇒ (1, 1) + 4 = 6 deadly d8, piercing

She follows that with a graceful sidestep out from between the two statuettes and makes her way west, past Fumbus, to stand with her back to the west wall. She catches her breath and prepares to survey her current situation.

1st action: Escape Grapple using Acrobatics. 2nd action: Attack with Rapier. 3rd action: Stride (35 move, risking AOOs by statues) to the west wall, to arrive in square B-21.

Perhaps it was her earlier attacks, or perhaps it was because it was because of Fumbus's acid, but Merisiel notices that the statue's toughness is noticeably weaker, as the blow which was slightly off the mark still pierces the stone, inflicting damage.

When Merisiel attempts to move away, the statues don't appear nimble or skilled enough to take advantage of the opening. Well, they are mindless statues after all.

Merisiel giggles as Fumbus is waving the book around and shouting "I told you so's" and ... encouragement to Ezren. She also appreciates that even though she's in the center of the splash zone, the acid and frost spray barely miss her. She considers that it's the goblin's doing, but ultimately credits her own agility for nimbly avoiding danger.

I kinda figured I was safe from AOOs, but just wanted to make it clear I wasn't doing any weird Acro stuff to explicitly avoid it.

Also, can I borrow someone else's d6s? Out of 10 damage rolls, I've rolled five 1's & three 2's ... pretty pathetic. :(

Though the damage didn't actually do any damage, the cold appears to freeze the statue's joints a bit, making it much harder for it to move.

The other bomb, however, manages to detonate in the middle of the other statue. The explosion of ice and frost shatters the statue into chunks of rock and ice!

Sure. It certainly is thematic.

Mersiel lands on the golem's shoulders, perfectly balancing on them. She noticed a rune on the back of its head. Going with a quick hunch she thrusts her rapier down upon the rune, piercing its protective shell and breaking magical insignia! With the rune destroyed, the statue collapses!

Critical hit confirmed.

Acid splash damage is wrong. The cantrip is heightened to 3rd level, so you deal 1d6+4(int)+1(splash) damage. The extra damage is pretty important, as otherwise you wouldn't get past its DR.

You can't get to K11; that would involve climbing up 10 ft. What you can do is move on top of the table at Q13. From there, you should be able to see the animated statue and throw bombs at it next turn (albit against cover). Would you like to do that?

Since this would clearly be a surpris-ing attack: an arrow flying from 55' away from an opponent he couldn't possibly have perceived, could I have considered Sneak Attack damage? Technically, I didn't use Stealth to get there, and no one's flanking for me. But this feels like the spirit of true surprise: an arrow piercing him from out of nowhere.

I should only stretch the rules so far. There is a feat to sneak at full speed that so that one could have made it to the balcony while hiding. Since you couldn't sneak, you made some noise when you decided to get up to the balcony that "alerted" the statue; such as when you dropped your rapier onto the floor, for example.

He then shouts to the Ezren, "Fumbus still have book!" The goblin waives the tome for emphasis. "Which pages should Fumbus rip out for safe keeping?"

Stride toward nearest steps to get toward Ezren, which I think gets Fumbus to M12.

P.T. Fumbus wrote:

"See!" Fumbus shouts, as Ezren dodges repeated blows and thereby avoids getting himself pummeled. "Fumbus gave Longshanks good advice!"

Listening to the elf's advice, Fumbus struggles to catch a glimpse of a mark on the back of the statue's head form his vantage point. He eventually decides that rather than striking a particular part of the head, it is probably easier just to cover the whole head, so the goblin retrieves a frost vial, which he flings toward the undamaged statue.

If the moving statue is still moving...

Fumbus follows up with an acid vial.

Both bombs successfully detonate on the statue. Frost and ice crystalize around the statue, while acid eats away at its internals. The goblin then jumps off of his perch atop the desk, maneuvering to better support his companion.

"Oh just crumble already!"

Ezren moves back closer to his approaching party and invokes another acid orb and hurls it at the animated statue.

Acid Splash Attack: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (2) + 11 = 13
Acid Splash Damage: 1d6 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 4 + 1 = 10

I'm gonna spend my Hero Point to reroll that.

"Why are you so far old man!!" Kandea shouts.

At a full sprint up and down the stairs, Kaneda seeing the statue makes the decision to leap off the table grab onto the ledge and lift himself up onto the area next to Ezren.

"Another rock to add to my "things that almost killed me" box" Kaneda smirks.

Three actions to move, and one using one Athletics that I automatically make it to as long as the jump is lower then 13 ft. to jump on to the ledge to place myself to P11. Very movie like if you ask me lol.

Ezren's acid splash connects with the statue. The acid hisses and bubbles as it eats away at the stone.

Kaneda sprints toward's Ezren's aid. He valiantly leaps onto the table that Fumbus vacated, and he jumps at the ledge 10 ft away!. Grabing the ledge, he hoists himself up and over the railing, preventing the statue's pursuit of Ezren!

The statue swings his club, but Kaneda skillfully angles himself in such a way that his armor deflects the monster's blows!

Party is up.

From her position on the raised landing, Merisiel crouches low and furtively moves 5' to her left to find cover, and to get a better angle against the statue. From her new position, and hopefully with the element of surprise, she takes aim and fires twice.

Stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (8) + 13 = 21 Meant to be Sneak/Hide

Shortbow Damage + Sneak: 1d6 + 2d6 ⇒ (1) + (5, 2) = 8 deadly d10, piercing

Not sure if the GM is supposed to do Stealth roll in secret, and compare to monster's perception. If Sneak damage doesn't apply, adjust accordingly.

Merisiel's attack hits the rune dead center! The bullseye immediately deactivates the last remaining construct and it falls to the floor.

A silence comes upon the library as the last enemy falls, only disrupted by your heavy breathing.

By the way, I forgot to give this handout right before combat. Here you go:

The goblin looks down at the remnants of the last statue, then looks at Merisiel with some concern, noting, "Better hope moving statues not part of collection. Old Langshanks will be mad."

"Well if they ask the statues came after us, and we were just defendin ourselves." Kaneda shrugs as he put's his weapons away. "Looks like it's rock collectin time."

Kaneda grabs a piece of the statue, about the size of his palm, that is by him and heads over to the other statue that he destroyed.

Ezren takes a deep breath and composes himself before turning back to the party.

"Well, I suppose that could've been worse," he says while applying pressure to his wounds. [b]"I specifically asked her if this place had traps or magical wards! Did she forget, or is something else going on here?"

We are short a proper healer, so Ezren will just drink his lesser elixir of life to get back on his feet.

Lesser Elixir of Life: 3d6 + 6 ⇒ (5, 5, 1) + 6 = 17
Also grants a +1 bonus against disease and poison for 10 minutes.

Well, there is a reason why I approved Scott's request to swap out Merisiel's intimidate skill for the Medicine skill. Go and ask the rogue for some healing people! ;p

Merisiel watches Kaneda picking up rocks, and grins at Fumbus' remark about statues not being part of the recovery. "No worries, my height-challenged friend. It appears good Kaneda has us covered by collecting the statues, bit by bit."

She climbs down from the balcony, brushing off marble dust as she goes. She finds a nearby table and pulls out her Healer's Tools from her pack. "I studied with a good friend of mine named Kyra, who some of you may know. We went through initiation together ... wish she was here now, because I just dabble. I'm no expert, but I'll do my best."

While she's laying out her ointments, she asks, "So what information has everyone found?

She starts bandaging herself up. "It'll take about 10 minutes or so for me to finish and I'm happy to help the rest of you."

As Merisiel is about to begin, a thought pops into her head and she turns to the goblin, "Fumbus, weren't you telling me that you have some medical training as well? If you wish, feel free to use any materials here to heal thyself. We'll get this done in half the time if you can help."

While Merisiel is applying ointment and bandages, she waits to hear about her party's findings. When no one immediately chimes in, she relates what she's uncovered. "At the top of that bookcase there, I found some city permits that were drafted by Adolphus, involving his founding of this Nexus House. These might be the documents Kreighton Shaine wanted." She points them out if anyone wants a closer look.

Merisiel stretches and flexes to assess her handiwork. Feeling as good as new, she turns to the goblin and says, "Okay, Fumbus, your turn. Stop squirming ... hold still!"

Treat Wounds: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29

Based on the Preview roll, I think it's a Crit success. If so, Fumbus gains an extra 2d8 healing.
Extra Damage Healed: 2d8 ⇒ (7, 5) = 12

While tending to Fumbus, Merisiel looks to the others: "So just before the fight, what information did you guys find?"

We all got "hidden" notes just before the fight broke out. We should share that info with the group, right?

With his own wounds healed, and having previously attended to those of the wizard, Fumbus turns his attention to the fighter.

"Okay, this won't hurt... much." warns the goblin.

"Uh, Longshanks still not look good." Fumbus says loudly to Merisiel as he points toward Kaneda. "Might want to check Fumbus' work."

Merisiel - Scott wrote:

"Fumbus find leather book with shiny lock on it!" he announces, holding up the book that he dragged around during the battle, it being only slightly less worse for wear. "Fumbus remove lock and considered leather snack, when Fumbus notice book itself talk about food. Spices to be exact!"

Fumbus gives the book a deep sniff, then offers it to the others. "When Longshanks White-Beard shout about books, Fumbus knew then probably not to chew on leather and Fumbus kept pages safe. See!" Fumbus swings the book around to show the others that it is still in good condition, only have the margins of a few pages catch on the corner of the table, resulting in the distinct sound.

***rrriiPPP!***

Like snowflakes, a small flurry of corners and edges of pages blow about.

After flashing a quick, unconvincing grin, the goblin quickly slams the leather book down on the table that had just torn the pages and frantically dives to the ground in an effort to get a meaty fist around as many of he tiny pieces as possible.

Once satisfied that he had done so, the goblin begins to rise, not realizing that his efforts had now placed his head beneath the table that had torn the pages previously. Bumping his head with a prominent ***THUD***, Fumbus dislodges an open candle that had been placed on the table, which then falls over and begins to singe a portion of the leather binding on the book.

Alarmed, Fumbus begins to pound on the book in an effort to extinguish some of the still red embers. Licking his finger, he then places it upon a final glowing spot of the book and, with his other hand, holds the book upright before holding it out as an offering to his fellow Pathfinders.

"Erm, there is a good chance that this just might be the cargo manifest of Selmius Foster that Pathfinders were sent to find." he says, unable to mask a somewhat apologetic tone in his voice.
