Since this scenario uses the PFS lvl 5 pregens, we'll need to work out who is playing what.
There are only 6 options: Alchemist, Barbarian, Cleric, Fighter, Rogue, and Wizard. My suggestion is that everyone post their top three choices and we see where we are, and in the event of competing interests, we let the dice decide.
GM Sparrowhawk |
I think if you look in the recent part of the Discussion page for Cottonseed lodge, GM Blake posted some stuff. Maybe not full pregrens, but formatting, and also an interesting guide on thinking about how 2E changes pbp, which I hope we can all work through together!
GM Sparrowhawk |
FYI - which might not be bad since we are waiting for 3 to muster.
From VOs:
Hey Everyone, I have some unfortunate news. I regret to inform you all that we will have to postpone Gameday VIII by 2 weeks. This would place our new dates for Gameday at: 09 Sept 2019 - 17 Nov 2019
WHAT IS GOING ON? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS? As most of you are aware, the majority of the GM’s have not received their scenario support for the Convention to include a good portion of the Specials. With Tonya occupied by other duties this weekend, we realized as a team that we are very unlikely to see the remainder of scenario support drop by Monday the 26th. Multiple avenues were discussed and what seems to be the best solution is to push Gameday back by two weeks. This will allow enough time for the GM’s to receive their scenarios and prep them.
BUT WHAT IF WE ALREADY HAVE OUR SCENARIOS, CAN WE START THEM? Please hold off until the new start date to be able to eligible for your boon rewards. I understand this is a large inconvenience, we are doing everything we can to make this work. Part of that is to have everyone one the same start / end times rather than scattered. We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause,
but we want all our GMs to have a chance to shine.
HOW DO I NOTIFY MY PLAYERS? Go ahead and post the news to your tables. Feel free to copy this email if you wish. We will be posting notices in all the PBP lodges as well as the Gameday VIII Announcement page.
I know this is not what we hoped to do, and I’m sorry. Thank you for understanding that we’re scrambling to fix this. If you have any other questions please don’t be afraid to ask. -Tyranius
SanityAWOL |
Hi Folks, Hope everyone is doing well, Sucks that we have to wait 2 weeks but I am super excited to try this out.
@Sparrowhawk I just realized when I PMed you, I did it with a character (FR10R) this is my main account sorry if there was confusions.
So My top 3 are: Wizard (most experience playing with), Barb (Some experience playing with), Rogue (No experience playing with).
(full disclosure my experience is in another game system. I am a pathfinder newb.)
GM Sparrowhawk |
Well, there may just be the 4 of you, as I've tried posting twice to get the other two to check in. Fine by me as it is written for 4 as base. To maximize first choices, how's this sound:
SanityAWOL: Wizard (1st choice)
Iammars: Cleric (1st choice)
Andreww: Rogue (2nd choice)
AgentEclipse: Alchemist (1st choice)
And SanityAWOL, we are all newbs to this version of Pathfinder. I plan on approaching this in the spirit of shared learning. Some of you probably know the game better than I do, and I am happy to be corrected. Kicking off next Monday!
Merisiel, Open Road Rogue |
Looking at the skill checks Merisiel should probably take the lead in acrobatics and thievery and maybe athletics. I would generally not reccomend trying to aid unless you have at least +10 as the 2E DC is 20 and critical fails can cause penalties. There is also no value in multiple assists as the bonus doesnt stack unless we think someone can get a critical success on assist.
Ezren, Wizard of the open road. |
I agree Meri, I do have +10 to Acro but I think it might be better if we all grab the one we are best at at first. We can team up on something if we need too later. I have Arcana +13 Society +13, Occult +11 and Survival +9, Anyone higher?
GM Sparrowhawk |
Yes, Scribing Lore and Pathfinder Lore are both called out specifically as options, but I'd take arguments if there was some other angle anyone wanted to take with it.
And thanks for the reminder to everyone about the change to what Aid entails. In my rush to get something out I didn't take the time to explain that element - I encourage anyone to chime in on such matters as we move forward.
Fumbus of the Puddles |
Yeah, I have a lot of skills but my highest aside from Craft probably are trumped by Meri. +14 Crafting/+13 Stealth/+11 Acro, Cooking, Pathfinder Society, Society, Thievery.
Kyra, Priestess of Sarenrae |
I believe I've interpreted this correctly (part of this page)...
So I believe that if you want to avoid critical failures, then it you have to wait until you have a +19 (since then the natural 1 would bring it down to a regular failure). I think that's a little absurd.
So I went through and calculated the EV for aiding another. I probably could've done something a little more efficient than this, but because of the weird critical rule, the quickest way I could think of was doing it out on a spreadsheet. It looks like there's two other breakpoints on aiding another: At a bonus of +5, the EV is positive, and at +9, there is only a 5% chance of crit failure. I would then argue that we should probably have our minimum for aiding be +5 (not that I think it's going to matter hugely in this case, but I nerd-sniped myself so I had to answer it).
So, let's look at our libraries:
Acrobatics: Meri +?, Fumbus +11
Arcana: Ezren +13
Athletics: Meri +?, Kyra +10
Lore: Fumbus +11, Kyra +7
Nature:
Occultism: Ezren +11
Society: Ezren +13
Survival: Ezren +9
Thievery: Meri +?, Fumbus +11
Suddenly it becomes pretty obvious that there is a hole in Nature. I'm at +4 on that, and I would imagine that I probably have the highest Wisdom here, unless anyone here is actually trained in it (Fumbus maybe?)
So looking at it from a time perspective, it would probably make sense to do something like this:
Hour 1: Meri & Fumbus at Acrobatics; Ezren at Society; Kyra at Nature
Hour 2: Meri & Kyra at Athletics; Ezren at Arcana, Fumbus chills (or does Lore on his own here if he's worried about an aid of only +7)
Hour 3: Meri & Fumbus at Thievery; Ezren at Occultism; Kyra chills
Hour 4: Ezren at Survival; Fumbus & Kyra possibly do Lore here if Fumbus is okay with aid of only +7; Meri chills
How do we feel about this?
Ezren, Wizard of the open road. |
Meri Acrobat is +14 Athletics is +10 Thievery +13.
Also since you pointed it out. Ezren is trained and has +9 in Nature, I didn't include it because I thought for sure someone would have better.
I don't want to be a skill roll hog though so I am good with sticking to the list as you made it if everyone else is.
Merisiel, Open Road Rogue |
Unless someone objects I am going to go ahead and maake the checks for acro and thievery. I sugest Fumbus does try to assist, while you can critically fail you can only do so on a 1.
GM Sparrowhawk |
That's correct - I'll take best roll and treat any others as Aid attempts. I'd suggest rolling all now, but putting each hour's work behind a spoiler, and then I'll give you the updates of each hour, which might change things. That'll just keep things moving in PbP format. Or you can just do it the way Kyra did - just saw that.
GM Sparrowhawk |
I'm so sorry for the slow start and I'm about to make it worse b/c I’m leaving tomorrow (Friday) through Monday to visit my folks and will have very limited internet. At the moment scrambling to get laundry done and packed, so the exciting battle will continue Monday night or Tuesday morning (US Eastern). Sorry!
Ezren, Wizard of the open road. |
I want to do 1 of two things but I am not sure which is more reasonable, either move away from yellow 1 square to prevent it hitting me with 3 attacks then cast Mirror image. Or stay where I am and cast mirror image and shield.
Does casting a spell provoke attack of opportunity while engaged?
Merisiel, Open Road Rogue |
Opportunity attacks only occur if the creature has it as a specific ability in 2e. Casting would generally provoke if it has a somatic or material component but given I have been running between these things like a hyperative toddler I dont think they have OA.
GM Sparrowhawk |
Sick kid and too much to do today - will move us forward on Monday (if not earlier), assuming you want to head to the shop you were directed towards.
GM Sparrowhawk |
Sorry all - sick kid, again. Was about to get her out the door when her whole breakfast came up on my shoes . . . that kind of day. I'll try to move us forward over the weekend. If I had known what kind of fall I was going to have I wouldn't have volunteered to GM, so my apologies for the slow pace.
Ezren, Wizard of the open road. |
I wanted to jump in and let everyone know I was still here. I missed my last action and haven't gotten to my next one so you haven't heard from me in a little bit.
This weekend is my brother's wedding. I between prep for that and work I don't have much free time and it seems the time I get doesn't really line up with what is going on in the game.
Sorry
GM Sparrowhawk |
We aren't going to finish by the "deadline" but we aren't that far from being done. Let's roll for boons now while I am thinking of it. A d20 roll from everyone pls.
1d20 ⇒ 14
GM Sparrowhawk |
Not totally clear from the email I got, but you are right that it doesn't make sense in light of ACP system.
GM Sparrowhawk |
Working on getting things organized for next encounter. Hope to have it up tomorrow afternoon.
GM Sparrowhawk |
Hi all - need to report the game even though we aren't done. If you could add the faction you want the game to give credit to, please add it to the table on the slide deck.
GM Sparrowhawk |
Just a note that I am headed out of town for Thanksgiving and will have very limited internet - apologies for the slow down here at the end. For those celebrating, I wish safe travels and too much food!
GM Sparrowhawk |
It’s the last fight. If you and Fumbus would each take one to be responsible for we could finish out before long. I’m back from holiday trip.
Fumbus of the Puddles |
Sorry if I did anything wrong as the 2E wizard is a little new to me and aside from what updates are on their profile I am not sure what all is left in their resources.
GM Sparrowhawk |
Moving in 36 hours - will try to advance tomorrow sometime. Sorry for the delay, once again.
GM Sparrowhawk |
Yeah, if you want this applied to someone other than who is listed on slide #3, please follow Merisiel's lead and give me updated info.
