The Bot Behind the Screen |
This sort of nanotech is far beyond your expertise as far as fixing is concerned... but at the very least they are unconscious and safe. Looking just a bit deeper into the site however reveals a much more grisly scene: dozens of Starfinders are currently comatose and held in secure statis chambers.
Vecro |
Vecro star energy diminishes just when the last starfinder is down. He lowers his pike bowing to the enemies and reciting a phrase in kasatha thanking for a fair fight.
"We should take their weapons and restrain them. "
Which he does, if there is any equipment on their ship that allows that.
Then he pulls out his communicator asking
"Raven, we encountered starfinders controlled by some nanotechnology, any ideas how to break that bond?"
Life science, hireling : 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Yet it seems that communication is so choppy that Raven can't understand a thing.
xaric214 |
Xaric begins examining the starfinders in stasis life science: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Telepathy to group From what i can determine it may kill or permanently damage them if we try to remove them. We should probably report it in and continue our investigation.
The Bot Behind the Screen |
Historia-7 listens to the report. "Good work. Make the subdued starfinders comfortable and make sure you leave them in a safe place. I'll be immediately dispatching a team of medical experts to start analyzing their condition, and the conditions of those in stasis. For now, check in with the other leaders."
Success reported! Go ahead and decide on another mission. As last time, 2 votes for a mission and I'll kick it off.
~Mission list~
Agillae-2: Planet of the Dinosaurs - Survival Mission, Standard Gravity
Bastiar-4: Lifeless Spaces - Investigation, Standard Gravity
Bastiar-7: The Third Kind - Starship/persuasion
Callion-2: City of the Ancients - Investigation, Standard Gravity
The Bot Behind the Screen |
Fitch nods a quick greeting as she approaches on the floor of landing bay deck. “We’re getting emergency transmissions on a Starfinder frequency from Agillae-2, a habitable planet nearby. Your mission is to investigate the signal and bring back anything that might help us find survivors. The source of the signal appears to be right in the middle of a large swath of treacherous wetland that’s covered in thick vegetation, so finding a suitable spot to land on may be a challenge. Also, our bio scans indicate an incredible amount of biodiversity, so be careful out there!”
A couple hours later you are back at Agillae-2. As Fitch predicted, there are few spots where you can land safely without getting branches and vines int he engines. Thankfully, a few enormous rock monoliths jut out from the steamy swamp and jungle terrain, the largest being 2 miles from the signal location. A smaller rock is just 1 mile from the signal, but it may prove difficult to land on.
Your ship's pilot can attempt a piloting check to land on the smaller rock, and I'd accept up to 1 aid another check (as though in the Captain role) as well. Alternatively, you can go straight to the larger rock and land with no check required, but deal with a longer hike through the rough terrain.
"Surge" |
I suppose this might be a good time to figure out ship roles? I'd personally like pilot with a +8 modifier to piloting, but i know we have THREE aces on this team. lol. And for the ship itself, is everyone cool with using the Sunrise Maiden? it has more armor and shields than the Pegasus, as well as more armor and speed than the drake. everything else is pretty close to the same.
i'll hop in the pilot seat for this one, but i'm fine giving it up if someone else wants it
Sliding smoothly into the familiar chair, Surge glides the ship towards the smaller rock.
Piloting: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 20
Helios-4 |
I don't mind at all, Helios also usually pilots, but since your bonus is higher than mine you might as well do it. I think Helios would make a fine Science Officer / Engineer
Helios approaches Surge as he maneuvers for the landing.
"Lemme get a few scans for ya. Smooth and steady." He scans the landing area to prepare for the ship's arrival.
Piloting, Aid: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
The Bot Behind the Screen |
Surge makes a nice clean landing on the smaller rock, and you're able to disembark without any issues. The flora and fauna both appear to be fairly hostile to traverse however. As you begin to push forward towards the beacon, many kinds of flying and crawling creatures buzz you, several landing on you to take a bite or three.
You can each attempt one of the following checks:
Medicine to treat any bites quickly
Survival to avoid them altogether
Helios-4 |
"Gah! Bloody bugs!"
Medicine: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (9) + 5 = 14
xaric214 |
Xaric raises what constitutes an eyebrow for Shirren and pointedly looks at Helios at the bloody bugs comment before continuing on.
medicine: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (11) + 4 = 15
The Bot Behind the Screen |
Surge/Vecro Survival: 1d20 - 1 ⇒ (13) - 1 = 121d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13
The swarms of bugs grow larger and larger as you approach the bog near the beacon. Their repeated bites begin to leave rashes and hives on you.
Everyone needs to make a Fort save DC 11 or be sickened for a few hours (the duration of this mission)
The murky water is shallow, but full of vines, mud, and roots making it a tiring obstacle to cross.
You can each attempt (or aid) with an Engineering or Survival check to make a raft to avoid trudging through the bog by foot. If you fail, you'll need to push through the hard way... swimming and walking with an Athletics check. Please give me both checks (Engineering or Survival, and Athletics).
Helios-4 |
Fortitude DC11: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Despite Helios' constant swatting, the bugs rapidly overwhelm him and he starts feeling sick.
He grimaces as they reach the bog. "Ugh. We'll be better off with a raft. Let's see what we can do."
Engineering, Sickened: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (1) + 8 - 2 = 7
Athletics, Sickened: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15
Horribly failing where it matters lol
Ardoc Tessere |
Fort Save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 3 = 12
Survival: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Athletics: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25
Ardoc holds his weapons clear of the muck and struggles on as best he can.
The Bot Behind the Screen |
Success from Ardoc! Moving forward.
While Helios is busy vomiting up corrupted nanites, Ardoc is able to lash together a simple raft large enough to fit everyone. The path winds through valley teeming with wildlife... some of which is friendlier than others. After a half-hour of rowing the valley opens up and you disembark from the raft. The valley appears to be home to several varieties of megafauna, all of which appear to be herbivorous... you hope.
You can attempt a Life Science or Survival check to steer clear of the more aggressive dinos. If you fail, you'll need to avoid being noticed with Stealth checks. As before, please give me both checks.

Life Science, Sickened: 1d20 + 8 - 2 ⇒ (6) + 8 - 2 = 12
Stealth: 1d20 + 2 - 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 - 2 = 7
Helios' barfing is making stealth pretty difficult.
Vecro |
Fort save: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (16) + 3 = 19
Vecro slaps few bugs when they sit on him but he seems to show some resistance against them. When he boards the raft he again tries to reach Raven to help him deal with the matter at hand
Life science, Hireling: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (10) + 4 = 14
"Raven, I am sending you a few pictures of animals in our way, any advice on how to deal with them would be appreciated. Over."
The Bot Behind the Screen |
Going to push a bit while I'm free.
Andromeda Fort, Survival, Stealth: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 111d20 + 7 ⇒ (7) + 7 = 141d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Xaric Life Science, Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 61d20 + 3 ⇒ (12) + 3 = 15
The party cautiously slips through the valley but find themselves a bit too close to several grazing long-necked dinosaurs. They are docile... and herbivorous... but seem to take as much heed of your passing as you would to an ant.
Everyone except Xaric:
Accidental Stomp Damage: 1d6 ⇒ 4 Reflex DC 11 for half
Finally you arrive at the swamp containing the beacon... and the dinos here look much less friendly.
Everyone place yourselves in the yellow circle on slide 10. You don't see the combatants at the moment, but you all know that you're in a place where you probably want weapons drawn.

As you approach, Xaric notes the telltale clawed footprints of much more dangerous animals and motions for you all to advance with caution. Once you get within sight of the beacon, the reason becomes abundantly clear as two bipedal serpentine dinosaurs with rattling frills and small forelimbs come slithering out of the muck. They seem fixated on Andromeda and Vecro however and are taken off guard by the sheer number of people encroaching on their territory.

~~Hazards~~
Bridges: The rickety bridges require a successful Easy Acrobatics check to traverse safely. If a creature fails the check, the bridge breaks, and all creatures fall 5 feet and land prone in the water.
Rocks: The large, jagged rocks are 10 feet tall and grant cover. The rocks require a successful Average Athletics check to climb.
Water: The dirty green water is shallow and counts as difficult terrain.
Helios-4 |
Reflex: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
Helios gets stomped on a few times, leaving quite a few bruises. Grunting, he pulls out his laser rifle and waits for enemies to approach.
Andromeda Nyx |
reflex save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Andromeda dodges the stomp a little but some still connects.
Its still the same day right?
The Bot Behind the Screen |
Ardoc and Xaric open fire on one of the dinosaurs as it crawls out of it's nest, wounding it... and infuriating it. The dinosaurs rush forward at amazing speed, ignoring the rickety bridges and leaping the gaps as they rush towards the starfinders.
Athetics: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (20) + 10 = 30 Easily clears the larger gap
One of them gets right up into Helios-4's face as the other spits a caustic gob of venom at Surge.

Reflex DC 11: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
Vecro looks at the dino charging in recalling all the times when he hunted the animals with fellow kasathas. He always preferred to know what he fights but now is not the time to dwell on that. He observes the closest enemy looking how it positioned itself next to Helios. He focuses on the star energy flowing through him and giving him strength directing it towards his pike, which starts to burn with steady yellow flame.
Vecro waits for the moment when the dino will be visible from behind the Helios and takes a stab.

Vecro attempts to slice at the dinosaur, however the creature is very nimble and ducks under the blade as Surge flails blindly.
Ardoc turns and fires off 2 rounds into the other incoming dinosaur. With the smell of acrid smoke and burnt flesh, it collapses.
Xaric and Andromeda unleash a pair of spells, one tearing at it's mind and the other pummelling it's hide with force. They both seem to have great effect and the dinosaur is quite the worse for wear.

The Bot Behind the Screen |
Ardoc's shot fells the last saurian, giving you unfettered access to the swamp.
You close in on the site of the beacon and find it littered with bones, destroyed equipment, and signs of a long since destroyed encampment. The beacon however, is still functioning... albeit encrypted. But on the bright side, it's portable! Probably best to get this to Historia-7... she'll know what to do with it.
Another success reported! Those of you who were sickened are now fine. What mission would you like to embark on next?
The Bot Behind the Screen |
By rule of GM is about to go to bed and there is 1 vote... we'll go with Bastiar-7! You all have plenty of time to take a short rest if needed and recharge your weapon batteries.
Zigvigix, leader of the Exo-Guardians, gestures at a screen behind them. On the screen, several derelict ships can be seen drifting amid the ring system of an ice giant planet. “Look, look at that! So many ships. They all look pretty badly banged up, so we don’t expect to find any survivors here, but there must be a reason why they’re there. If you can find any intact data modules, we may be able to uncover what happened. Something destroyed those ships and we don’t know what it was, so choose a functional ship for yourselves that you think can handle any trouble you may find.”
Go ahead and select which starship you wish to head out in, along with your roles. If you're using the Sunrise Maiden, can you go ahead and post the stat-block? I don't have it available.
After a few hours of travel you arrive at the icy rings of Bastiar-7. The field is littered with derelict ships and ice chunks.
As you decide on your positions, feel free to move yourselves on the map to investigate any of the derelicts.
Helios-4 |
Coming back from the dinosaur planet, Helios takes some time to relax a little bit. Burning one RP to replenish SP.
He then can be found in the briefing room, chewing gum vigorously while listening to Zigvigix. "Gotcha. Let's get to work then."
As the ship closes the distance to Bastiar-7, Helios familiarises himself with the consoles, the lab and the engines room. Then, he goes over to Andromeda and keeps an eye on the piloting, eager to see the planet appear in the window bay, legs crossed on a console all the while.

Andromeda will spend an RP to replenish SP also
Telepathically in Common to the group <I think I would be best suited for Pilot since Surge and Helios can be helpful in other areas of the ship where I can not.>
Helios-4 |
Helios-4 shrugs and blows a bubble with his chewing gum.
"Sure, you're doing a pretty fine job so far. I'll work at the science lab, it'll make for some change." He looks at the radar and sees the derelicts floating lifelessly. "So, whaddaya say we go see this one?" He proposes, pointing at the nearest vessel.
For the sake of getting this under way, I've moved the starship next to a derelict, if that's ok with you all
"Surge" |
Sitting in the captains chair, Surge looks over to Andromeda.
”The... uh, fourth toggle sometimes sticks. So, you know....”
He turns his attention to the screen displaying the derelict ships.
”Sunny, you ready in case there’s any trouble?”
The ship A.I. speaks cheerfully over the ships speakers.
”Ready, Steady, Cap’n”
