As you move through the cells you can find nothing magical or of any value.
Midway through the southern hall you come across a cell with a closed door, as you approach a pale face appears, grimy hands gripping iron bars in the door to the room.
“Oh, gods, kind faces! Aroden bless you, noble souls! I ain’t seen the jailers in ages, I think they forgot about us! We ain’t eaten in days and the water’s all but gone — my cousins’re both sick.
I swear we’d give back the boar if we could, but we ate it, starvin’ as we was. We didn’t even know it was the baron’s lands, didn’t know we was poachin’!
I beg you, we’re all gonna die in here! Kindness, noble souls, we’ve suffered awful! Good Baron Sarvo wills it!”
I've moved the rest of the party up a bit but feel free to move yourselves back/around etc.
Halders: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Shondra: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (5) + 0 = 5
Ludvic: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7
Ragnar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (20) + 7 = 27 (+1vs surprise)
Ragnar Barrowheim |
Ragnar steps up and lifts his holy symbol. Another flash of golden light followed by the crack of a judge's gavel emanates out from him."You have all served your life sentences, it is time to move on to what comes after."
Channel Positive Energy (harm undead DC 10): 1d8 ⇒ 6
Halders Isgood |
Coming upon the wretched soul Halders is reminded of his family and siblings, sometimes going without food and is filled with compassion until he sees the odd hue to the prisoner's skin.
"This wretch's sicker than a dog, cooped up 'ere."
He leans in seeing the etherealness of the prisoner; an' there's something odd about 'is appearance
Oi oi wretch, you got a bad case of being not-all-there?"
He rolls his eyes as Ragnar glows with golden light.
"Oh c'mon, even ifn this guys not right in the skin, 'e just wants water- anyone gotta a cup- Ragnar can make it holy ifn 'es worried about it.
Halders Isgood |
s'a ghost? Halders exchanges a glace with Galessa, feeling equally worried. He carefully tries the door, attempting to push/pull it open.
If the door opens... He looks forlorn, speaking with resignation in his voice;
"... After you, Ludvic"
Liam Mooney |
Halders: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21
Shondra: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (1) + 0 = 1
Ludvic: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5
Ragnar: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (6) + 7 = 13 (+1vs surprise)
The room looks to be empty, however Galessa and Halders both notice that there's a loose stone in the wall which appears to be connected to a hidden door at the back of the room.
Galessa |
Galessa’s fear gave way to excitement when she saw the loose stone. Blessed as she was by Desna, she couldn’t resist the urge to explore. Running over, she opened the hidden door.
Ludvic Hearthrend |
Ludvic had gone rather pale when the spirits had shown up, but visibly relaxed once they had been put to peace.
"First time meeting the spirits of the dead. Can't imagine what it must have been like to be stuck in that cell for 200 years. Lets just hope most are friendly. Can't fight something we can't touch."
Once it is pointed out Ludvic will move forward to open the secret door.
Liam Mooney |
You open the door.
In the room at the end of this narrow corridor is a strange
metallic contraption of gears and chains. A large lever extends
out at a forty-five-degree angle from the front of it.
Hovering above the machine is a small, roiling cloud of energy that periodically sends out sparks of electricity into the air or along the chains.
Halders Isgood |
"I was expecting more ghosts... "; peering down the hallway Halders eyes the crackling, sparking thing hovering over the contraption.
"... No, I prefer fings wiv a body. This'n looks troubling"
Ragnar Barrowheim |
Ragnar nods in agreement with Halders and grouses. "What in the Hell's Infernos is this contraption? I have not seen anything like this before." He looks up at the cloud and the chains."Humph!..this is where that odd plumbling in the ceiling led to."
Is there a chain or something that matches up with the ceiling 'tube'?
Galessa |
”I wonder what it does...well, a lever is meant to be pulled.” Galessa went over, reached out...and prepared herself to run away the second after it was pulled.
If nobody stops her she will pull the lever
Liam Mooney |
Yes, the chain disappears through a hole that matches where the pipe runs.
As Galessa reaches for the lever the lightning cloud lashes out at her.
Halders: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (13) + 5 = 18
Shondra: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
Ludvic: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (16) + 4 = 20
Ragnar: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Cloud: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11
But being ready to run Galessa is able to quickly react to it.
Initiative Order:
23 Galessa
20 Ludvic
18 Halders
11"Cloud"
9 Shondra
7 Ragnar
Galessa, Ludvic and Halders up now. I have moved Galessa up on the map but feel free to move yourselves up a bit before the fight begins if you'd have followed her though
Galessa |
Withdraw: Withdrawing from melee combat is a full-round action. When you withdraw, you can move up to double your speed. The square you start out in is not considered threatened by any opponent you can see, and therefore visible enemies do not get attacks of opportunity against you when you move from that square. Invisible enemies still get attacks of opportunity against you, and you can’t withdraw from combat if you’re blinded. You can’t take a 5-foot step during the same round in which you withdraw. If, during the process of withdrawing, you move out of a threatened square (other than the one you started in), enemies get attacks of opportunity as normal. You may not withdraw using a form of movement for which you don’t have a listed speed. Note that despite the name of this action, you don’t actually have to leave combat entirely.
Galessa took off running, fleeing from the lightning as fast as she could. She was betting on the cloud of lightning not being sentient or designed to pursue.
”Nothing’s wrong!” She yelled as she ran down the hall. ”Is it chasing me?!”
Halders Isgood |
Did Galessa get to pull the lever or is she off running before she lays a hand on it?
Halders whistles to himself as the cloud sparks at Galessa. "Well, that wasn't 'alf expected I guess. 'Ow do you fight a ball of lightning?"
Holding until someone else enters the hallway and he'll follow them in.
Halders Isgood |
Halders takes his turn...
As Ludvic moves down the hall Halders follows close behind him, remaining hidden from the ball of electricity...
stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (5) + 13 = 18
drawing two daggers...
lets see if'n this thing likes sharp fings
Liam Mooney |
It started moving before she could pull the lever, I've moved Ragnar up.
Perception vs Stealth: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
The cloud of energy moves forward and strikes at Ludvic. Who's readied action goes off.
Slam Attack: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (3) + 7 = 101d4 + 1d3 ⇒ (4) + (1) = 5
Ludvic easily evades the clouds strike.
23 Galessa
20 Ludvic
18 Halders
11"Cloud"
9 Shondra
7 Ragnar
Shondra and Ragnar up now to finish the round and then the other 3 of you are up. Sorry that I haven't posted for a few days, had a few bits come up at the end of the week and then been away at a con.
Shondra Demarkus |
Shondra nocks an arrow and sends it into the cloud, but she flubs the attack and nearly breaks her bowstring.
Shondra vs. Cloud: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 6 + 1 = 10 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
Galessa |
To her utter shock, nobody was following her out. The fools were trying to stab the ball of lightning! Knowing that she couldn’t leave them, Galessa turned around, and with Starknife in hand began running back.
Halders Isgood |
Halders will move up behind the tall folk, sneaking the last 10 feet...
stealth: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (9) + 13 = 22
... and throws a dagger at the crackling energy
attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (19) + 4 - 4 = 19
-4 for soft cover through ally
Crit!
confirm crit: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 - 4 = 9
I assume does not confirm
damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
sneak attack damage: 1d8 ⇒ 7
+1d8 if stealth is successful
It occurs to me that I'm throwing a dagger past Galessa and possible ludvic, though not sure which square he is in. Is it still soft cover?
Liam Mooney |
Assuming he's in the middle square based on the text from his first turn but soft cover either way with Galessa there.
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Halders dagger hits the cloud without it appearing to notice him but fails to find any weak spots.
The creature flies forward and attacks again at Ludvic.
Slam: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 241d4 + 1d3 ⇒ (2) + (1) = 3
Halders Isgood |
It was a precise throw, but at the sound of the knife clattering to the ground Halders' eyes grow wide with worry. oh f&*$ me, thisn beastie isn't dying wiv a dagger init!
Halders retreats a square.
I won't add the shaken condition but Halders is quite surprised that his dagger didn't cause any damage, he'll do nothing this turn.
Ragnar Barrowheim |
Ragnar holds his silver key aloft and shouts a prayer to Abadar. "Lord of the Vaults, I beseech you to steady our hands as we remove this threat to the town above!"
Casting bless: +1 Morale bonus to hit and fear saves.
Liam Mooney |
Galessa tries to dodge past the lightning cloud but it is able to get an attack in against her as she passes.
Slam: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (12) + 8 = 201d4 + 1d3 ⇒ (3) + (2) = 5
It's attack lands and sends a jolt of electricity through Galessa's starknife.
(Mechanically the metal of the knife gave it an attack bonus)
Shondra Demarkus |
Shondra launches another arrow into the mist.
Shondra vs. Cloud: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 28 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
Crit confirm?: 1d20 + 6 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 6 + 1 + 1 = 10 Damage: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 1 = 2
Halders Isgood |
Halders' steadies himself as the crackling ball dissipates.
I don't much like them lightning beasties
He'll gather with the others around the gears and lever.
perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 - still a bit rattled to notice too much.
"Ludvic, d... do ya wanna pull the lever now that thisn fella is dead?"
