The pantry has been recently looted. The office next door is a shambles, with paper strewn about haphazardly. A trapdoor in the ceiling has a folding staircase descending from it, but several steps on the ladder are broken and stained with blood.

Climbing up, you emerge into a study. Two overstuffed sofas sit facing each other in this room, while a round table with a few stools nearby sit opposite. The spicy scent of coffee and tea lingers in the air.

A human man and woman are hiding behind a sofa, but they emerge when they see you. "Thank the gods! We were attacked by Nidalese agents! They abducted the rest of the staff! Please, you need to inform the authorities!"

Cabaguil is happy to see some still alive, ”Are you OK? Either of you hurt?” He’ll see to their injuries if they are wounded.

Then he’ll continue, ”How do you know they were Nidalese agents? We’ve had some trouble with people spreading falsehoods. Also, where did they take them, do you know? And how long ago?”

He’s sure he has more questions, but he stops, impatiently, to allow them to answer before plowing on.

Ever the cynical elf Dakapos gets the sense that the pair are not quite telling the truth. They appear to be quite nervous and twitchy to him.

That halfling woman tried to save some of her people, but we quickly overwhelmed her." He smiles. "They took her and after that we came up here and found all of this! Dakapos has all the confidence in his blade as he believes these creature to be common catfolk. Full of luck, well-groomed and always able to land on their feet these catfolk will bite and claw their way through enemies.

Dakapos' confidence wanes as his bastard sword seems mostly resisted by the hulking cat before him. DR Raspar's starknife seems far more effective as it pierces into the soft, furry body. Dori makes a move against Cheetara, his axe nicking her slightly. DR as well

Kelvin's battle cry frightens the southern catman as he focuses his spear on Dakapos' target. The catfolk slash claws at Dakapos and Dori. As they do so a burst of shadowed energy erupts in the middle of the room injuring everyone within. It slashes as if the cat's claws are everywhere all at once.

He weaves a tale of a cat's tail caught beneath a rocking chair, hopeful that this is as worrisome to these cats as those he has seen elsewhere. (Dirge of doom cantrip, 30' emanation, foes in the area are Frightened 1 and cannot reduce their Frightened value below 1 while in the area.) The gnome draws out his whip to use at his next opportunity.

The group is sliced and diced by the magical claws as they strike all around the room at once. Raspar protects Cabaguil as much as possible. Cuthberwyn frightens the pair of catfolk as the group remains standing strong.

Due to being weakened Dakapos is able to pin point a weak spot in its defenses and strikes quickly. Over and over again he slashes into the mancat. DR Raspar's starknife sticks into its ribs before magically disappearing into the halflings hands once more. The catfolk looks tetters like he is about to collapse.

Dori's axe doesn't seem very effective at all as the cat's claws absorb a lot of the blow. DR

Cabaguil's flame burns the catfolk as her fur melts back. Following Cabaguil's lead Raspar and Kelvin pile onto her. Even with vampirically sucking the life force from Kelvin they pair still manage to drop her to the ground.

With the fiends dispatched, you continue looking around the handful of bunk rooms upstairs. The beds in these dormitory-like rooms are all askew, and several dressers and desks lay on their sides.

A halfling hides in one of the rooms behind an overturned bookshelf. When she realizes you aren't here to try to enslave her, she crawls out of hiding and sobs, "They took her! They took Laria! Please, you need to find her and save her!”

Kelvin chuckles at Cabaguil's tone at first, then thinks better of it and stops himself. "Okay friend, take a deep breath," he says to the previously hidden halfling. "We're here to help, even if it might not sound like it. Why don't you talk us through things. What you know can help us get Laria back safely."

You guys are able to handwave and roleplay out a lot of your outside of combat healing if you wish. You have folks that can do medicine checks every 10 minutes to 4 people at a time as well as 2 champions that get free heals every 10 minutes. I will let you know if we are in a time constraint that wouldn't be advisable to do it.

Cabaguil brushes off the little halfling for a moment to deal with injuries. She begins to explain everything to Kelvin.

The halfling introduces herself as she gulps in some fresh air to calm herself down. "My name is Elianda, a new junior pastry chef at the coffeehouse." She goes on to describe "I was up here alone when she heard fighting break out below." She sobs in shame at having hidden here, "but when the fighting was over I crept downstairs, I saw Laria and several others had been chained up by a group of strangers who fit them with gags and hoods and bundled them into large sacks for transport." Elianda's hands begin to shake. "hat is when I saw “Barzillai’s ghost.” and then two of those “monsters with tiger heads” came in and started upstairs. I ran up here and hid."

Elianda has no idea who the attackers are, but she does have an idea of where they are going: she overheard one of the attackers joking about “how handy it is that halflings are so portable—makes it so much easier to hall them back to Tanessen Tower and up all those steps!”

Cabaguil knows that the Tanessens are one of Kintargo’s noble families, and Tanessen Tower is in fact located in Alabaster Academy.
