Ðak is quiet upon returning. There's much to do, and likely more that I don't even know about.

He spends time sipping whatever is good, scribbling away in a journal.

Cabaguil is pleased to find that the Great Dreamhouse can cater to his immediate need and he collects his formula. He takes his meager change (5cp), and palms a few coins to various beggars, or if none, random children. Might buy a bit of good will perhaps, he thinks warmly to himself, but truthfully he does it just for the happy feeling it brings.

At breakfast with the group, he lets Spooky out, nudging her awake. She wanders the tavern, looking for mice. He also agrees to sell everything they can. ”Sure, let’s get rid of everything we aren’t going to keep. I’ve a few things in mind that might help.” He mulls over some possible purchases though most are far out of his reach.

He breaks into his own thoughts, smiling, ”Oh, also, I’ve got a gift for each of you. These will only last the day, so don’t hesitate to use them.” He hands everyone in the party their own Elixir of Life, minor.

”So how does everyone feel? Up to delving back in? My skill with the medicinals is ever improving. If anyone needs further assistance, I’m ready to help.”

(I took Continual Recovery early to speed our healing a bit. That said, happy to have help so I can do other things as well during the little rests between battles.)

Nice Cabaguil. That'll help a lot

The next morning Kelvin returns to Cayden's Keg, for food but also so he can speak with Brynne once more. "I've not told many why Dori and I are here, but I suspect you'll understand. You see, I've had dreams of fire most of my life," he begins, breaking off a piece of bread to dip into the porridge. He takes a bite, chewing slowly to let curiosity build. "Always indistinct, until recently. I saw a place, a I was finally able to understand enough of it to identity it. It was this town, and it was burning. Strange, right? What's worse was that dream, and every other one before it, had signs... Symbols and metaphors of the dragon god Dahak. And don't look at me strange, I know how it sounds."

He lifts a mug, taking a big drink before continuing. "So I'm here because I need to be. But I've done everything I can to learn about the dragon god. Did you know he is said to have transformed Hell into a place of agony and flame? He is also believed to be the creator of the metallic dragons, which he formed solely to hunt as sport. Pretty savage, right? The dragons that worship him he sees as prey. Not a nice god. Anyhow, so Dahak is also known for..."

Kelvin spends the rest of his morning talking to the tavern keeper and worshipper of the Lucky Drunk, hoping to make a friend in his favourite drinking establishment.

Dori is up early as always. It takes a bit more to get out of bed. His joints don't recover like they used too. He get's up and washes in the provided basin. Being careful not to wake his younger companion who stay up to late the night before spinning yarns that were mostly true. He makes his way to the Quarter and Bits. He heard they have a forge or two in the back and being near them and hearing the clang of the metal work being him closer to Torag. After his morning rituals are completed. He makes his way back to the dream house and wakes Kelvin. "Time to get up, Son. We have work to do this day. make sure you make yourself presentable. I don't want your morning breath offending our new friends."
Seeing Kelvin stirring, The older dwarf makes his way out of the room and down across the way to breakfast.

Raspar accepts the gift in his two hands, his face in a smile. He has no return gifts of value for the human, but does have a hug, which he offers freely...if Cabaguil will accept it. If allowed, he hugs the man's waist strongly, perhaps too strongly with the corded muscles around Raspar's workman's shoulders.

He releases the hug and looks up at Cabaguil, another smile unfolding. I will bleed for you.

With the coins from the shared split, Raspar runs around town to do the things he needs to do with his luckily earned goods. He races to Lamond's Lament, to offer some tithing to Renatta. And then to the Dreamhouse to check on his chores and his gnome friend, also to leave tithings.

Will put tithings (and buy list) in Discussion.

He will crawl into his cot at the Dreamhouse, happy to have helped serve the town and his salvation, waking early to serve again. He is the luckiest halfling in the land.

As morning comes the shops begin to open. It takes the entire day milling about to completely sell off you haul and buy what you need.

With items sold you each get 20 gold 3 copper each.

Kelvin spends the day speaking and drinking with Brynne, getting to know the human woman a bit better. She sets her mug down and gasps slightly. "You say that was a dream." She downs the rest of her drink and slides him another. "Dreams like that, you are gonna need another one of these. On the house." She leans in closer. "You need a room. food or booze here I'll give you a good rate." She tosses him a wink.

Kelvin beams a smile. "I knew this was my favourite establishment for a reason. And it's not just because you've the best beer in town." He leans in conspiratorially and adds, "Good enough to compete with dwarven brews, but don't let Dori hear I said that. He's a touch sensitive about all things Torag. Very dwarven of him, if you get my meaning."

He settles up his tab, counting off his fingers before he slaps down 3 gold and 25 silver pieces. "That's for the meal, for the beers last night, and a week's worth of lodging in my own room, paid up front. I'm no expert on numbers," he comfortably lies, shrugging, "But if there's extra it's yours. Or consider it a tithe to the Lucky Drunk."

Cabaguil hugs Raspar readily enough, though perhaps with less fervor. ”Yes, you’re welcome.” he smiles.

He happily spends the day with his new found friends, selling off the various bits and pieces they’ve accumulated. Taking his share gratefully he quips, ”This adventuring isn’t too bad. Not too bad at all.”

GM Tyranius:
I had assumed, for role play purposes, that Cabaguil had a small, but respectable, family home here in town. I don’t want that to put me ahead on the wealth though if we’re tracking our dailies that closely. So I’ll plan on 8sp a day in expenses if that’s cool.
- - -

Cabaguil takes some of the money and sets it aside. After all his home needs work, the family has not had real money for quite some time, and things have gotten a bit, well, run down. Very near collapse some of it, if he’s to be honest.

But there is one thing he seeks. During the course of the day, Cabaguil keeps his eyes open for a Crying Angel Pendent (7gp). Should he see one, he marks it well, and returns just as soon as his share exceeds the purchase price - and buys it. He takes some of his change in coppers so he can dole it out among the children, and other beggars, while he finds a nice quiet poor box, to stow the silver or two he’s accumulated in this way.

He keeps the rest of his cash for now, saving to pick up even larger purchases, should such thing be imagined! Smiling, a part of him thinks too that it’ll make a nice nest egg should the rest of the trip come to naught.

He also tries to spend a little time with Cuthberwyn, learning about performance, and also a different way of casting spells.

Dak spends his time in solitude for the most part. It's not that he's uninterested, it's that his focus is on study. He is happy to talk when people visit, happy to discuss things when they ask, but he doesn't seek out social interaction.

For the moment he hangs on to his earnings. After a fair bit of introspection and reflection, he rejoins the group.

"Indeed Mr. Hobnil, there is something to this. While I don't experience dreams the way our friend does, I do have aspirations. I think mine take me back in."

That bit about 10% off services at Cayden's Keg for Kelvin was more of a roleplaying for his befriending a local. If you have homes around town you can certainly stay there free of charge. In the end the amount for your rooms will be minimal. I will leave it to you all to track your own gold

Brynne beams at Kelvin. "With Dwarven Brews huh. I dunno, that Snakebite #9 over in Trunau is pretty good. Dwarven family over there make it. Steelkegs I believe."

Throughout the day each of you has no problem looking for the minor items and attachments that you hunt down in Bits and Quarters. Resting up for another night Alak meets you down for breakfast. He looks well rested and nearly all of his injuries have healed. He beams a smile. "So where to today? Another sight seeing tour?" He grabs a sausage and snaps off a bite.

Lol. +1 for Snakebite #9 from Trunau.

After his unbelievable payday (after all, he would have done it all for free), Raspar runs to Renatta to offer her another donation: a full gold piece. "It isn't much, Renatta, but you know how hungry I was when I first came to town. And I remember your kindness to me. I remember the first full belly I had in weeks. And I will never forget it. When I get more money, it shall be yours," Raspar says, his eyes welling with tears at the memory and the kindness. "I will bleed for you."

He will offer a hug, but not be annoyed if it is refused. It's okay that some people don't want to be touched. He doesn't mind. He smiles anyway.

Next he runs back to the Dreamhouse, having limited time to do so much.

*knock*
*knock*

Raspar raps on the doorway to Kellen Carondil's chamber, not wanting to be rude or interrupt the High Priest of Desna. Raspar is as grateful to Kellen as anyone else, for it was the Dreamhouse who gave him lodging and healing when he needed it.

They had allowed him to work in the gardens, and pray with Desna. He also wants to give the elf (Kellen) a tithe. When he does gain audience with Kellen, he will explain what had happened over the past few days, and all about the undead in case the head priest has some calming words or sage advice to offer.

"...and when the wight struck me, I felt a deep cold within my bones, but then I remembered the warmth of my bed here at the Dreamhouse, and the cold seeped away, unable to find purchase in my heart. But I could tell it wanted to drain away my love for Desna, but I would not let it..." Raspar explains further.

And if he has time, he will check in on his gnome friend, leaving him a few coppers in payment for the chores that the gnome had been working as Raspar was away. He's somewhat worried that the gnome will take away all his hard labors to do, but that's okay, he would give them to others if it would make them happy.

At the proper time, Raspar will be ready to return and finish the job. He is chipper and eager to clear out the home so the goblins can live safely.

Rejoining the party, Dak jumps in on the conversation, "I too have heard of the Oakfists. Additionally, I'd be remiss if I didn't make mention of the Upturned Cup in Korvosa. Nevertheless though, we've got a task at hand."

Raspar nods agreeably with Dak’s suggestion, using his very long halberd as a walking stick as they move back and into position. When they get closer to the first location, Raspar no longer clonks it on the ground, but carries it and moves more quietly. He’s just not a naturally loud person, and blends in with his louder and dwarfier fellows.

On approach, he will look to see if the goblins are okay and if they need anything or if there was any trouble during the night. After all, there are wild bears about.

At the first location, Raspar will open the door when others are ready.

"Aye, makes sense," Kelvin says to Dak, not intending to speak for Alak but doing so anyway. "Let me lead, in case there's any traps. I've a nose for these things."

As they approach, Kelvin notes Raspar's change in movement. He nods approvingly before speaking to the rest of the group. "If you want to do as Raspar and I do to keep quiet, just follow my lead. I can show you how best to step, how you should hold your weapon sheath so it doesn't rattle, and a few other bits so you avoid making noise. Just let me know. With a hand gesture like this," he says this last bit while holding up his index and pinky finger. "I'm not saying we need to right now, but in the future when we want to sneak past something."

Quiet Allies:
You’re skilled at moving with a group. When you are Avoiding Notice and your allies Follow the Expert, you and those allies can roll a single Stealth check, using the lowest modifier, instead of rolling separately. This doesn’t apply for initiative rolls.

The dwarf then steps to the front, pulling out his newly acquired morningstar from its hanger.
I've arrayed the group on the map based on the formation on slide 2, with a small adjustment of Kelvin and Dak swapping positions to account for Kelvin's trap searching.

Renatta clasps the gold piece in her hands a little startled and shocked. "Thank you for your generosity Raspar." She says with a kind and warm smile.

Leaving Lamond’s Lament Raspar books it across town and heads off to the Dreamhouse in search of wisdom and a friendly face. Upon hearing of the wights Kellen shows a flash of concern on his face. "Nasty, vile creatures." He pauses in though as his brow furrows. "I witnessed in my youth a single wight's touch nearly decimate an entire village." Hearing of the Dreamhouse and Desna's thoughts keeping Raspar from succumbing to the coldness causes a smile to begin to creep across his face. "That is wonderful to hear. Seems there is more that the Goddess wishes for you to explore. In a way you freed those wights. While evil and vile, they were trapped on this world, unable to pass on in peace. You allowed them freedom."

"Yes, there was also a Vael Oakfist in Trunau. Trunau definitely has little shortage when it comes to brewery's." Brynne tries to think on the subject as she is definitely not an expert on Trunau. "Well I should get back to work. This place isn't going to run itself."

Alak joins in just as the conversation seems to come to a close. "Of course I'll come along. You all helped retrieve my family ring. It is the least i can do. If you don't need me I can head on out early?"

I'm guessing it takes that long to do the cursory search that warrants the perception check. But yeah, after that it'd be on to the next door I think. IDing stuff can probably wait until the next round of healing.

Cabaguil picks up some signs of magical items in the room and gets to work. as Dori finds the wand that seems to have been producing the effect. With the southern chamber cleared out the group heads to the eastern section.

A splintered table stretches across the center of this room, while broken chairs, moldy books, and general detritus litter the floor. Two bodies that appear to be frog-like humanoids lie sprawled on the floor near the center of the room. Kelvin pads in on quiet feet. Reaching the table he glances around and listens with Dak. Once it becomes clear that nothing will spring out he waves the group forward.

"I think we've had a tussle with these things before," he gestures at the frogmen corpses. He gives each a search, rifling through pockets for any valuables. "Maybe they were doing some funeral preparation?"

Raspar moves into the room, looking around at the doors.

Starting with the left door, he will open it when others are ready.

Cabaguil moves slowly into the room, and casts Detect Magic before examining the bodies. He's trying to find out how they died, and why they might have been just left here...

Medicine: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13

Unsure (probably) he shrugs his shoulders, "That's a good question Ðakaþos, let me think on it. Seems unclear to me."

If the others also find nothing, he lines up a bit behind Raspar at the next door.

Ðakaþos kicks over one of the frog-like bodies and recognizes it as another boggard. Cabaguil inspects the bodies as he scans the room. There is nothing of value on the cultists’ bodies, but some polished obsidian figurines scattered throughout the debris in the room are worth some coin. The figurines are shaped like Nail Hellknights in full plate, Hellknight signifier spellcasters in robes, and more general featureless humanoids. Altogether, the figures should collect roughly 20 gp.

More importantly the group has little idea how they dies as they are covered in a pool of their own blood. While Cabaguil and Dori look over the room for anything useful, Ðakaþos pulls the wand out and rolls it over in his hand. A thinly etched phrase is scribbled across the wand in elven. "By warmth of heart, your pain I feel, grant me the power, your wounds to heal." Ðakaþosrecognizes this wand as a Wand of Healing Wand of Heal (1st)

As the group gives the all clear Raspar quietly opens the north-western door. These entry halls on either side are still decorated with the remnants of homages to the Order of the Nail’s most storied deeds. Tall oil paintings, many of which are damaged but still recognizable, depict Hellknights gaining the upper hand in clashes with bandits, opposing armies, and terrible monsters.

The painting depicts three Hellknights battling a black dragon in an ominous swamp. A fourth Hellknight leaps from a rise behind the dragon with her halberd raised, ready to bear down on the dragon’s back, while a robed Hellknight in the background attends to a wounded knight. In the corner of the painting, the artist has signed their work: “R. Stagram.”

Alak looks at the painting with reverence. "This was made by my great-great-uncle. He was a talented painter, but I thought all of his works had been destroyed once the Hellknights abandoned this place. It would mean a lot to me if I could take this with me."

Listening in on the north-eastern door, Ðakaþos hears small bits of quiet movement from within.

Raspar steps forward to help Alak carry his family heirlooms if he wants.

"I can help you carry them. I have a strong back and room in my pack...or we can leave them here for now and come back for them," Raspar smiles helpfully to Alak.

He will take a moment to carefully roll up and stow the painting if Alak wishes.

When finished (or not), he will join Dak to open the next door.

"Alak, it is yours to take. Meanwhile this wand will be most welcome to our fight."

It's time to learn a little more about the rules. We're still in Exploration mode, so Dak will Scout. While scouting, I'm thinking of drinking my potion of invisibility and moving into the room with movement.

Male Human

Cabaguil wholly agrees with Dori's assessment, and says so, "Quite Alak, it's yours. Consider it payment for helping us down here if it helps, but it's yours either way."

He smiles at the wand. "Excellent! Can anyone use this? If so, perhaps someone other than me should carry it for emergencies as I can cast the spell already if the need arises."

Smiling at a good deed done for Alak, he approaches the next door carefully, keeping well back so the warriors can do their thing. He waits for it to be opened.

Alak helps gently roll the a painting up and secures it in a couple of scroll tubes on either end to help keep it from getting damaged.

Gathering at the door Ðakaþos downs a potion and vanishes from sight at a gasp from one of the dwarves. Opening the door Ðakaþos quickly rushes unseen into the room leaving Kelvin and others standing by and gawking.

Empty weapon racks line the walls of this room. Repair forges long abandoned and cold sit in a lonely row toward the back, along with a crude lean-to seemingly made from bits of rope and ripped leather.

After a few seconds, two small reptilian humanoids emerge from the shelter, screeching, "We are dragons and we wants your meats! So... give it up!" Society to ID.

”Hey there, uh, little guy.” Cabaguil checks his pack for his rations, ”I think I have some jerky, will that do for a start? Are you hungry? My name is Cabaguil. What's yours?”

While Kelvin doesn't recognize the kobolds, Cabaguil surely does. The kobolds shrink back and wince, cowed by Kelvin's harsh words. They perk up again when Cabaguil steps forward with a handful of jerky. "Yes, we is very hungry! I am Pib," says the green-scaled one, "and this is Zarf." The red scaled kobold's (Zarf) eyes begin to move in opposing directions of each other as they seem to swivel independently on their own. He grins. "We used to live next to the Bumblebrasher goblins until those stupid Cinderclaws showed up and chased us away."

"They claim to worship dragons, and yet they do not respect us, mighty as we are!" Zarf declares puffing his chest out proudly. "We are to be awed! Feared for our power! Would you not agree?"

Raspar smiles at the kobolds, hoping they are new friends. He's quite happy that Cabaguil seems to be making inroads without a fight. He leans on his halberd as he looks about the room.

"Oh yes, you seem very mighty," Raspar agrees, as size and might are only loosely correlated.

"Tell us more about the mean ol' Cinderclaws, please," Raspar asks, wanting to know more.

Male Human

"Yes, I am certainly awed by you. In many ways." he gives the pair more of his rations. "But yes, my friend Raspar here is correct. Tell us more about the Cinderclaws. Everything you know..."

He takes out two pieces of scrimshaw. Teeth, if he can find a pair in his pouch. He shows them to the kobolds. "I'll trade you these for what you know. Speak clearly now, quickly, and be honest!" he ends grinning as he holds out the art.

Pib gets a nasty gleam to his eye. "But if you going to kill Cinderclaws here, we can help! We kill two froggy guys already!" Alak's eyes go a bit wide at the mention of the kobolds help.

Cabaguil laughs pleasantly with their new friends as he hands over the scrimshaw, "Yes, they were bad tunnel diggers weren't they. Look, I don't think we're going to need your help. We're a large enough group already don't you think?"

He does stop to think a moment, "In fact, it might be a good idea for you to head on home. The goblins will be moving back here I think, or the keep, I'm not sure which, just as soon as we're done with our searching. OK?"

Mindful of Ðakaþos' invisibility, Cabaguil suggests to the group, "Let's try the next door quickly huh? We can come back and search this room after the next."

If everyone agrees, he lines up by the next door, ready to go.

”Yes, we will be back. And will bring back any meat we find too!” Raspar says, following Cabaguil out to the next door.

When others are ready, he will open the door. Moved on map.
