It is definitely unnatural.

Halden gets up early and gathers his gear. The odds aren't in our favor here. There are a lot more of them then there are us, so we'll need to be cautious. I wonder if letting our captives go will come back to bite us. Certainly not all of them deserve the mercy.

"Strange visions? I didn't see anything. Is something wrong Pyros?"

"I...I don't know. I dreamt of thick fog, fog that obscured the land. Then a, well, a fey woman appeared, as if in a vision. I askher who she was." Pyros looks thoughtful, then recounts the conversation as best he can recall.

It was just a minute ago, so his recollection is really good. Almost like he copied and pasted the below from his PM exchange with the GM. With GM permission, of course. lol

Conversation:

"Who am I? Just a tear, shed by the land itself. The bitter sigh of nature... I am a nymph, the guardian of this area. A defeated guardian all me the Guardian of the Bloom if you wish." She responds in a whisper.
"I have come for your aid. We have a common enemy, and long have I searched for someone who can defeat him. The one you call the Stag Lord... as a storm strikes ruthlessly with gusts and lightning, the Stag Lord wreaks havoc with the swords of his servants. And not just in the world of people. The land suffers from the evil he brings! My forests and my flowers suffocate in this fog. Soon, even I will vanish, as the last ray of light at dusk..."

When she mentions this, the questioning look on your face prompts her to explain further.
"The fog hides his fortress as well as his dark deeds. However, it is not of his creation, but was created by a powerful druid which the Stag Lord has some sway over. Why the powers did not leave this renegade druid, I do not understand, but he was too powerful and defeated me."

She continues.
"This fog... it shrouds, entangles, suffocates... if only I could learn how it was created! But my powers wane. I was barely able to call out to you now. All I know for certain is that somewhere in this forest lies an old house, it echoes with the remnants of a strange power. The Stag Lord and this druid were both there once. This fog hides it from me, but the bandits at Thorn Ford should know its location. Go there, listen to the echoes, catch the whispers and search for any clues as to this fogs creation. Once the fg clears, the forest will be able to breath again and you will be able to find the fortress of our mutual enemy!"

She begins to fade.
"I don't believe in fate, stranger, but our meeting seems more than coincidence!" Her whisper fades as she disappears.

Signy listens raptly, her eyes big as saucers, as Pyros describes his dream.

"Wow!" she exclaims when he's finished. "I've never had a dream anything like that before. We have to do something to help her. Do you think she's real?"

Turning around in the direction of Oleg, Signy calls out to him. "Hey! Oleg! Have you ever seen fog like this around here before? Is this stuff normal?"

Teryll listens to Pyros' story, his expression growing darker by the moment.
"The fair folk are all around the stolen lands if you know where to look. The fact this one is reaching out to us for help is very concerning. An evil that threatens the land is one that threatens us as well."
He sighs;
"They can be tricky though, so I suggest we look carefully at anything they are involved in before we act, lest we find ourselves in over our heads."

Well, at least we were already headed in that direction already.

"It definitely isn't normal, or in any way natural." Faerin says ominously. "That lends much to support what she told you."

Sovereign Court

As you prepare to leave for Thorn Ford, you notice that the fog blocks access North from Oleg's and East towards Restov. South and West seems to be clear. You head South along the trade road looking for an easy path West to Thorn River. You find a side trail after about two hours and head West. After about an hour, a jittery old man in squalid clothing shuffles up to you. His gray hair is unkempt and he continually clenches and unclenches his wrinkled hands. When he stops and looks up at you, his eyes widen and he tugs at his beard.

"Strange weather. Invisible fog, creeping out of the woods. Soars above the sky, obscures the sun and the moon... strange." The old man shakes his head, his eyes shift about, seemingly at random.

"Whats causing this fog?"

Sovereign Court

The man looks around, but doesn't really look at whoever speaks.
"Cause? Who knows? The fog is... wrong. It hinders your legs, not your sight."

Female Human Inquisitor (Sanctified Slayer) 4 / Swashbuckler (Rostland Bravo) 1| HP: 45/45 | AC: 19 (T: 13, F: 16) | CMB: +6, CMD: 19 | F: +6, R: +6, W: +6 | Init: +7 | Perc: +10, SM: +8 | Speed 30'| Panache 1/1

Signy isn’t sure what to make of the man except that he seems a little confused, or perhaps dazed. She decides he might be in need of some help.

”Hey Mister, are you lost? Are you hungry? I have some food if you are.”

Aside from his generally unkempt condition, he appears to be more or less healthy.

Signy cocks her head at the man's strange reply.

"I'm Signy. Pretty sure I still am. Are you saying you can see in the fog?"

She immediately abandons that line of questioning.

"Where did the fog start from? Have you seen it before?"

Pyros moves toward Signy. While he wants to hear the man's reply, he is careful not to alarm him.

Sovereign Court

"See in the fog? No, I will not venture into it." The man says with a shudder (perhaps the most lucid response yet).

His answers are as if he hears your questions, but doesn't acknowledge you're really there in front of him. He has a dreamy look to his expression.

Sovereign Court

@ Signy, no magic aura at all.

The old man ceases responding and just begins to mumble to himself as if he has forgotten any of you are there.

Sovereign Court

It becomes apparent that whatever prompted the old man to talk to you has passed and he idly mutters and wanders. However, as you turn to leave, he suddenly says, "You hasten? You should. Your rival wastes no time. He races, but in another direction. He searches for a power. He'll find it."

Signy wishes the man "safe travels", her voice showing both puzzlement at he man and doubt her wish will be fulfilled.

She looks around at the others as they begin moving onward.

"So... I guess we stay clear of the fog huh?"

Sovereign Court

When you all begin to leave is when he says what I posted above.

"Yeah maybe he means Tartuccio?"

Sovereign Court

When the old man hears you mention Tartuccio, he speaks again.

“He’s not tall, but he wants to climb high. Beside him are those who could stand against him… and might still. However, the power he seeks is someone else’s. Old, yet forever young. That which was taken from another. That which gave joy… that now gives death.”

For the first time, he actually focuses on you and speaks directly to you.
"He's not far from here you know."

Pyros eyes the man suspiciously. "We should be going now." he says to no one in particular.

Sovereign Court

"“He’s in an old tomb. South of here, about three hours walk.”

With that, the old man again looks dreamy and begins to wander off, muttering.

“Once stolen, the land needs to be reclaimed… once reclaimed, bound with the reclaimer it shall be. Bound, merged, joined by unbreakable ties. Claiming the land, claiming its pain, claiming its death…”

Sovereign Court

So, ford or tomb first? The tomb is closer and not really out of the way and who knows how long Tartuccio will be there.

Once the strange old man has wandered away, Teryll mkaes a quick warding sign against evil and ill luck. He then looks to the others:

"As little as I trust the words of a bizarre old man wandering in unnatural fog and speaking in riddle and half-assed portents. I don't trust that snake Tartuccio not to try and find some ancient relic of power, or some evil device and use it against us.. I'd think we have little to lose by heading there first, before we go to the river ford."

Female Half-Elf Druid (Green Faith Initiate) 6: HP 43/43 : AC: (22)19, T: 12, FF: (17)14: Fort: +8 Reflex: + 5 Will: +11 (+13 Enchantment) : Perception +11, Init +2 : Wooden fist 8/8 : Wild shape 1/1 Active effects: Barkskin (60 mins), Magic Stone (30 mins)

"I'm inclined to agree. There isn't much that I put past him given the way he tried to manipulate us before." Faerin agrees.

Sovereign Court

Heading South, you travel for about three hours and, true to the old man's word, you come across the old tomb. It would have been easily missed except as you got near, you heard the sound of horses. Approaching cautiously, you see several horses picketed near a rock outcropping. At the base of the outcropping, you see a n area cleared of undergrowth and also some apparent excavation, all fresh. Revealed is an opening into worked stonework. No one is visible or apparent.

It appears that not much thought was given to stealth or defense. It appears they considered the remoteness of the location along with the scarcity of traffic in the area to be sufficient to safeguard their horses while inside the tomb.

Signy silently approaches the entrance and peering in, sees that there is a flicker of torchlight coming from further inside. She also hears muffled and indistinct voices occasionally punctuated by loud exclamations as if people were doing work and having frustrations.

Female Human Inquisitor (Sanctified Slayer) 4 / Swashbuckler (Rostland Bravo) 1| HP: 45/45 | AC: 19 (T: 13, F: 16) | CMB: +6, CMD: 19 | F: +6, R: +6, W: +6 | Init: +7 | Perc: +10, SM: +8 | Speed 30'| Panache 1/1

Signy creeps back to the rest of the party and reports.

"They're working on something. Doesn't seem to be going all that great and it's making them grumpy."

She looks at the horses and her grin widens. "Let's add a little mischief to the mix. One of you who's good with animals, take the horses somewhere else. They'll be gald to see when they learn we can give them their missing horses back... Maybe. But first..."

Signy searches any baggage or saddles for anything that might provide clues on who's down in the barrow, what they're looking for, and what they mean to do with it if they find it.

Perception: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8

But she almost instantly becomes bored with the task and asks someone else to do it instead.

Faerin considers Signy's suggestion for a moment before retrieving an earthenware flask from her gear. Shaking it vigorous, she pops the wax seal on the container, making a face as she consumes the concoction that tastes slightly of clover and fresh cut grass.

Carefully approaching the horses, the young druidess begins to speak softly, the series of nickers, exhalations and whinnying decidedly equine in nature.

*Equine* "Come with me. Much sweeter grass over here" she says softly, but assuredly, running her fingers through the mane of the lead horse.

You enter the tomb, after squeezing through the opening. You immediately see that there is light ahead and can now clearly hear voices and the sound of digging. The corridor is short and ends in a large room. There is little danger of you being heard as the people in the room are making plenty of noise.

As you get closer, you can make out the distinct sound of Tartuccio's voice.

"Let me guess -- you're still dawdling?" Tartuccio scoffs at his underlings, unimpressed.
"Should I make some tea in the meantime? Bake a pie, perhaps? Plant a garden and harvest some cherries? Perhaps you'd be more comfortable wearing fools' caps and colored trousers?
