Gronkh raises an arm to block the scarecrow's attack - then too late realises that he's not wearing his buckler, and gets slashed badly. He resists the scarecrow's fear-mongering, and retaliates with a powerful sword blow that cuts through the construct's wood-and-straw body.
Golthwur succumbs to the monster's eldritch gaze, and stands idly by.
Jeskit will: 1d20 + 2 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 2 + 4 = 23
Jeskit looks into the face of the scarecrow, and whirls his sansetsukon in a frenzied attack that snaps the creature's wooden back in two! The scarecrow collapses in a head, once more nothing but wood, straw, and a hollowed out gourd.
Your companions recover their senses.

"Are we all together again? Is the danger not now averted? Can we not, then, take the time to do some proper preparation?" Golthwur inquires.
Golthwur Strath |
"I would hardly refer to my quarterstaff--the stalwart melee weapon of choice of many a mage--a 'stick'!" Golthwur huffs. Then, conceding that he will not get the rest to which he believes he is entitled, he follows the reptilian Pathfinder.
Gronkh Maha |
"Aye, there'll be time to heal wounds and read books later! For now, we must rescue Byron!" growls Gronkh, who stands ready to rush in the door as soon as Jeskit kicks it open.
GM supervillan |
Jeskit not wanting to lose the edge that his bloodrage gives him, kicks in the vine-choked door. A deformed humanoid skeleton falls forwards, having been held to the half-rotted boards by nothing but the thick mess of vines that formed a curtain over the portal.
A cold hearth dominates this large room. Between the mostly collapsed internal walls and separate jumbles of crumbled furniture, it seems that this large room may have once been several smaller rooms. A rickety ladder leads to what looks like an upper loft above, visible through several large holes in the overhanging ceiling above. A large wooden cage sits in the southwest corner of the room. A supine form is imprisoned in the cage.
Three masked humanoids lurk near the cage. Their masks are crudely fashioned of sticks and gourds, and give them the appearance of monstrous mosquitos. They are armed with rusty old sickles, and they are clearly expecting you.

GM supervillan |
There's a sickening snapping sound as Jeskit's attack breaks the neck of the first mosquito man yellow, smashing in the side of his gourd-mask and revealing strands of long, golden hair. "Noooooo!" scream the two mosquito men close-by in unison. One scream is masculine, the other one feminine.
Angela Isafira |
Angela gives a few small blinks as the fascination wears off. She stands straight, and wipes the drool from her face. "What the- I was standing back there... The scarecrow got me didn't it? Damn it Angela you're better than this!" She gives a small huff and gathers around the front door with everyone else, as Golthwur starts complaining about not being able to prep. "If we take an hour for you to get ready, Byron would probably be dead... or worse. We need to go now or possibly lose him forever."
Still feeling the blood loss and a little off kilter from her mind being drawn in, Angela stays behind the wall of the three giant green men. When Jeskit smashes down the mosquito man with the golden hair, her brain kicks into overdrive. The only one with golden hair in town we know of would be Shel. Not a great loss to the world, but those cries must have been her parents! I can use this... She pops her head into the door way and looks at both of the two men who'd cried out. "Saul Lupescu, Ana Lupescu I presume. Shel might still live. If you put down your weapons, back away, and give us back Byron we can try saving her, but if not, I doubt you'll be able to get through this brute right here much less Gronkh over there either."
Not sure if I should roll for anything or if this will even help, but it's worth a try. Hate to kill people if not unnecessarily. Also Angela will ready an action to move forward if Gronkh moves into the building.
Gronkh Maha |
Gronkh hurries past Jeskit and swings his falchion at the nearest mosquito man. (Trying not to attack the two that Angela suspects might be Shel's parents, though I'm not sure which tokens those are on the map, so please move me if I'm in the wrong location). Also, Gronkh's movement will provoke from Red if he has Combat Reflexes.

"You have dared disturb the rest and preparations of a wizard, a most serious error, and now you shall face the ire and furry of Golthwur Strath, Rebuker of Rousers and Destroyer of Disturbances!"

Angela follows in Gronkh's wake and pleads for a peaceful resolution whilst Golthwur gets angry and puts the frighteners on.
"You! You killed our daughter!" says the mosquito man nearest the cage blue evidently Saul Lupescu, whilst the next masked cultist red - Anya Lupescu wails. "Byron was supposed to replace her!"
"You've taken our daughter from us - give us your elf now! Blood for Blood!" Anya adds.
The Lupescus raise their sickles - but wait for a response before striking. Their fellows do not wait, but step over Shel Lupescu's body to engage Jeskit.

Jeskit attempt another DC14 Fort save vs Poison.
Jeskit must also make a new poison save at the start of his next turn. DC14, but see also spoiler above.
Golthwur continues his tirade. "Shut that bloody old fool up!" says Papa Lupescu.

Mama vs Jeskit: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (19) - 2 = 17damage: 1d6 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0

Unfortunately, it doesn't appear that Gronkh has an antitoxin for Jeskit, though that's usually one of the first things I buy. And I'm too low level to have purchased a scroll of lesser restoration yet.
GM supervillan |
Gronkh rushes to the cage and opens it - sure enough that's Byron, and he doesn't look good. Easy to open from outside - but the latch would not be reachable from inside; you don't have time yourself to get Byron out as well.

Sorry long weekend where I had a guest over! Wasn't thinking I wouldn't get access to the computer though.
Angela rushes up to the cage, taking her hand off her longspear and starting to search Byron for his wand of CLW. "Anybody remember where Byron kept his wand? Or Jeskit can you uswe your infernal healing wand on him? Or does anyone have a wand they can lend me right now?"
Dangit, I really need to get Angela her own wand. Move to move and standard to search Byron for the wand he has.
GM supervillan |
Delaying Golthwur
Angela sees that Byron's gear has been slung in a small heap amongst the general detritus of the room, opposite the cage on the northern wall. That's an adjacent square. She grabs a wand from amongst the mess.
Byron has 4 wands, and all his possessions have just been dumped in amongst a load of rotten wood and other rubbish. I'll assign a 1 in 4 chance that you grabbed the healing wand Angela; if you get one of the others you'll know and you can take a full round action that provokes to retrieve the healing wand.
which wand?: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Angela picks up a wand that she sees poking out of all the mess on the floor - but it's the mage armour wand, not the cure spell.
As Golthwur ponders his next move, there's a noise above your heads. And then a voice: "Oh m' dears, what 'as 'appened here? I 'opes yer alrigh', good Sir Knight. A knight mus' 'ave a damsel's favour, hmm? An' a King to serve."
The voice sounds familiar. It's surely the village weaver.

Thanks for delaying Golthwur. Apologies for my own delays in posting.
Emerging from the fog of battle and his lack of proper preparation, Golthwur looks up in response to the somewhat familiar voice.
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
"The hallmarks of a charm person or some sort of mind-control." Golthwur mutters to himself, more a recitation of scholarly observations than the provision of any sort of warning. His elderly eyes now turning from the magic effects to the caster itself.
Knowledge (arcane): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
"An Aranea!" he declares. "That certainly explains this beast's use of arcane magic and its affinity for our motionless mage. No doubt, this shapechanger seeks to capture us within his sticky webs, perhaps as subjects of magical research! We must refrain from huddling together, lest it entangle us all within its webbing!"
With a wave of his hand, the wizard sends his staff toward the creature from the safety of the doorway.
Ranged Attack (Hand of Apprentice), quarterstaff: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (10) + 6 = 16

Angela grumbles at Byron's improperly organized wand collection. "Having multiple wands and not properly labeling them! The horror. I am going to sit Byron down after this and make him organize them! HUMPH!" She looks up from the pile as the spider comes into view. "Ah, should have known there would be a big scary creature pulling the strings. It makes sense no why the Lupescus would be willing to risk their daughter such."
Spellcraft: 1d20 + 7 + 1d16 ⇒ (17) + 7 + (1) = 25
Knowledge Arcana: 1d20 + 7 + 1d6 ⇒ (13) + 7 + (5) = 25
She glances over at Gronkh as she recognizes the spell being cast. The little halfling frowns as the man starts his spiel about his 'friend.' She calls out to Jeskit. "Jeskit, be careful, it looks like our other big green friend has been Charmed. His 'friend' is not friendly to us. Do not be surprised if he attacks us, hopefully only to subdue."
She nods at Golthwur's words before adding in, "The Aranea also has strength sapping poison in it's bite! Careful to avoid those jaws!"
She thinks about going back through the inadequately labeled wands but hems and haws over whether to help deal with the spider lady...
Urgh, not sure if I should get the wand try getting a UMD off next turn, or is she should help take down spider 'friend' first. Given the chances for failure, I think I'll go with spider friend.
Angela steps ion closer to the rest of the party, longspear in hand and 'accidentally' catches the but of the weapon on the floor teetering forward precariously, the tip of her spear weaving around the spider woman, hopefully pushing her closer to Jeskit. "Woah! Dammit, that floor board really sticks up! Oh my Abadar! I nearly cut you there, weaver."
Not sure if I can try using a bluff check to make the aid another look accidental but if I can, I'd love to try to convince Gronhk if nothing else.

If it succeeds then Angela gives Jeskit a +4 on his next attack against spider lady
Possible Bluff: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 Another +4 if this counts as telling a lie
Gronkh Maha |
Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Gronkh easily sees through Angela's ruse and since she is standing the closest he tries to deal with her first, though he is equally bothered by the actions of the others as well. "All of you, no, stop this, no fighting! I mean, you know me, I love a good fight. More than anyone. But not now. Can't you see that Byron is hurt? And Spider is the only one who could probably help him."
Gronkh drops his falchion and attempts to grapple Angela. He doesn't have Improved Grapple, so this will provoke an AoO from Angela.
CMB: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (4) + 6 = 10
Angela Isafira |
Sadly Angela is carrying a longspear, so both hands are busy and no attacking adjacent.
Angela gives a small 'eep' of surprise and fear as Gronkh's weapon clatters to the floor and the big green one rears up behind her. She drops low and tries to duck under his lunge for her. "Gronkh, She's not shown any healing magic! If you let Jeskit by he's got a wand he can use just fine! Now stop trying to bear hug me you big oaf! You'll snap me like a twig if you aren't careful!"
GM supervillan |
"O' course, I could 'elp yer frien' Byron if'n I wasn' bein' swatted at!" says the aranea as she evades Angela's spear and scuttles across the ceiling towards the chimney, and from her abdomen sprays a mess of thick sticky web at Jeskit.

Hearing the sounds of battle continuing from within the building and the aranea sounding quite healthy, Golthwur resolves to try and use trickery to give his allies a reprieve.
With a wave of his hands, the footfalls of eight armored, humans can be heard approaching the doorway from the east.
Casting ghost sound
His confidence renewed, the wizard again appears at the doorway. Steeling himself up to make a declaration as the footfalls approach, he instead pauses upon spying the webbed nagaji.
"They were specifically warned of the webbing, but do they heed the mage?" he mutters in lament, "Of course not and, thus, to their own peril."
With a deep sigh, he steels himself up once again. Now, with the sound of footfalls sounding less distant, he announces to the magical beast, "Hold your further actions! For your deeds this night have drawn the attention of those villagers of both higher moral character and the will to act! Behold, a group of armed now approach! Surrender and your life may be spared!"

Gronkh Maha |
Gronkh seems to drift off into another place, some place far removed from the hideous goings on of this forsaken hamlet. His eyes are glassy, as if he is seeing, or recalling, events from another time and place, and the din of the battle around him seems, at least for the moment, to mean nothing to him.
At the end of Gronkh's round 6 turn:
Will: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 4 = 6 Yeesh, not meant to be! And I already used my reroll against the scarecrow. Sorry, y'all...
As the cloudiness of his vision recedes, Gronkh startles awake, dismayed at what he sees around him. "My friends, my friends, this is no way to treat our friend Spider! Please, let her minister to Byron - I'm sure she knows what ails him..."
Angela Isafira |
Dangnabit, let the halfling help! ... though with that low of a roll, not much but divine intervention could help. ;P
Angela gives a small sigh as the only person even remotely capable of doing damage gets caught in a web. She steps back from the skittering spider and tries to wave her spear in a way to menace her away. "Stay back creepy spider thing. I am tiny but I PROMISE you I am not tasty!"
Aid another to Jeskit may he end this once and for all!: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 24
She then starts calculating how long it would take her to grab the right wand and get Byron up. Maybe the wizard would have an idea?
Though her thoughts get cut short as she realizes that Gronkh, who'd been oddly quiet there for a moment, is still under the spider's charm.
"We Iomedae Damn know what's wrong with him. Too much blood loss and blunt force trauma. Some healing is all he needs. I'd let her take a look at him, if she can prove she has some form of healing."
