I'm just going to remove these awkward spoiler blocks. No great secrets hidden therein beyond samey room layout.
Picking the southeast door at random, you push through.
Toppled armor racks are scattered throughout this wide room, as well as anvils, hammers, tool sets, and other supplies that were once used to repair the Hellknight’s iconic armor.
Alak, who maintains a rear guard, peers in over your shoulders. "Armory, maintenance and repair. We tend to keep the weapons and armour separate to ensure there's space for maintenance and repair. Weapons are probably nearby."
Aramil Wellys |
"We should take a quick look around the room, see if we can find your family's ring in here."
Aramil suited action to words.
Perception check, please.
GM SpiderBeard |
You all start filing into the room, and then something tries to grab you. It's hard to spot at first - you just see a weird transluscent shimmering in the air.
However, the human skull floating in this thing is impossible to miss. Any adventurer worth their salt knows a gelatinous cube when they... well, kinda see one.
Found underground or in dungeons, these quivering cubes of slime continuously scour their domain for food. The acid in their bodies is weak enough that many gelatinous cubes still contain the gear of their victims, as they’re unable to break them down.
Gelatinous cubes are notorious for their ability to paralyze their prey.

@Lenna - yep!
Turns out this cube is an -extremely- easy target and it just kind of jiggles as Omari beats on it and Lenna fires arrows again and again
Varook is up!

Varook moves up and slashes at the jiggly cube.

Whoops, something key I forgot with the gelatinous cube. It's AC is -TEN-. Every roll above a 20 is a crit. I'll do flat double damage for pervious rolls. It just has a ton of hp.

Varook stabs in the cube repeatedly as it orients at the largest mass of humanity and charges northwards. Alak and Omari find themselves totally overwhelmed as they are shlupped up into the gelatinous cube and find themselves suspended in its mass. Raff dives out of the way at the last moment.

GM SpiderBeard |
Seeing their companions trapped inside of The Blob, the group rallies, and after a volley of arrows and stabulations, whatever infernal surface tension holds the cube together collapses, and it falls apart. Omari and Alak 'blurp' out onto the ground, covered in a strange-tasting slime.
End of Combat
After a little bit they regain movement. Along with them, an extremely nice shortsword clanks onto the floor - a remnant of long-ago eaten hero.
Aramil Wellys |
"That cube seems an odd choice to leave as a guardian. I suspect it moved in after the Order of the Nail moved out - although how it closed the door is beyond me."
Omari Oparal |
Omari spends several seconds coughing up bits of slime before standing and healing themselves with a short prayer to Nethys.
"That was certainly unexpected. Thanks for the save."
Little Lenna |
"That cube seems an odd choice to leave as a guardian. I suspect it moved in after the Order of the Nail moved out - although how it closed the door is beyond me."
"Someone probably closed the door behind it to keep it trapped within. Hey, Varook, what do you think of that sword?"
She will return to the search of the room now that the threat has been dealt with.
GM SpiderBeard |
Unfortunately there is little else of value in the room, it has been quite thoroughly ransacked and everything behind is broken or rusted. Alak wipes the goo off of himself disdainfully as he falls back into line. "Poor choice of houseguest."
Omari's excitement in finding magical goodies leads him to the sword, which does register as magical.
As you look over the room, Lenna hears an excited jabbering from the northern door.
Omari Oparal |
Omari will study the item in an attempt to identify it.
Read Aura and whichever knowledge skill is necessary. Trained in all of them with the Int based ones at +5, and the Wis ones at +4.
Varook Fist |
Varook let the half-elf examine the weapon before he takes a look.
"There must be something special to this sword if it was not dissolved in the cube. Can you detect anything about it?"
GM SpiderBeard |
There's a moment of silence before a high-pitched voice calls out.
"BEWARE! WE ARE DRAGONS AND WE FIND MORTALS VERY TASTY!"
"WE WANT YOUR MEATS!"
The door doesn't open though.
GM SpiderBeard |
You hear some muttering behind the door.
"You think they respects us?"
"We must slaughter their families and hear the lamentations of the cattle!"
"I just want meats though."
Little Lenna |
Lenna listens, but she doesn't understand what the 'dragons' are saying. She looks back at her friends, eyebrow raised, and shrugs her shoulders.
She steps back from the door and readies her bow. Dragon it might be, but I'm going to sting it once before I die. She nods to herself with that thought and waits.
Omari Oparal |
"They feel disrespected and wish to slaughter our families to gain our respect. One of them just wants something to eat though. Preferably meat. We might be able to talk them down."
Aramil Wellys |
Aramil looks at Omari. ”Dragons are usually big, right? That room probably isn’t bigger than the armory we were just in. If there’s more than one creature in there, I don’t think they’re real dragons. They might be easy to talk down. We can give them some jerky if it might help.”
GM SpiderBeard |
There's some awkward silence.
"Ah... are you bringing us meats?"
"OR YOUR FLESHHH!!!"
"We will accept both!"
GM SpiderBeard |
It's a simple matter to head back down the hallway and grab a couple of bird corpses. You return to the door.
Push p ush. Whatcha doing?
Little Lenna |
Lenna will move to the side so she's not immediately visible to whoever or whatever is behind the door.
Her bow is ready so if necessary, she can move to get an angle, but she doesn't want to appear to be a threat until it's necessary for her to be a threat.
GM SpiderBeard |
Raff bulls through the door with the group hauling two brightly-coloured and probabyl delicious birds behind them.
Empty weapon racks line the walls of this room. Repair forges long abandoned and cold sit in a lonely row toward the back, along with a crude lean-to seemingly made from bits of rope and ripped leather.
Within are two mighty... kobolds. A green and red kobold stand in the centre of the room and both of them call out.
"BEWARE FOR WE WILL SUP UPON MORTALS! YOU ARE CRUNCHY AND WILL TASTE GOOD WITH GRAVY!"
"Wait... did they bring meats?"
The kobolds stop, not attacking.
"SHOW US YOUR MEATS, HUMANS AND UH.. OTHER!"
Aramil Wellys |
Well, they definitely weren't dragons. They were vaguely dragon-like, but that was where the resemblance ended. As Raff pushed the birds to the kobolds, Aramil asked, "So, what brings two mighty creatures like you here?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (16) + 8 = 24
Little Lenna |
Hearing that the others weren’t immediately engaging in combat, Lenna relaxes and takes the arrow from the string. She peeks around the corner, bow and arrow held in one hand out of sight, as she sees the ‘dragons’ for the first time.
Can I try to recall knowledge or study a target outside of combat?
