  • C) There are many eldritch runes scrawled around the portals, which appear to conjure hotter flames than usual. You carefully find and scratch out the most important ones.

  • D) Large power cells have been improperly fit in the portal housings to boost their output. You use brute strength to wriggle them out or find a way around magical adhesives holding them in place. As less integral pieces, you could also smash them, but it could be perilous.

    Where are you dropping that? I'm not good with 3D, but I think the only way you can hit all three enemies is to catch some allies in the effect. Also, shouldn't it be 7d6 damage, plus the bloodline and school bonuses before empowering?

    Fingalad lines up a shot, but it bounces off the salamander just before coming into contact. He knows that fire mephits sport a weak breath weapon and a few heat-based spells.

    I'll wait on Kitani for clarification, as it could end the fight pretty quickly. May bot the reroll and positioning tomorrow night otherwise.

    damage is 6 dices from caster level, +2cl from specialized spell and 2 cl for the dungeon, for a total of 10cl, the bonus to damage is from crossblooded sorcerer i have +2 dmg per dice rolled and 1/2 point damage from evocation caster level

    Ah, sorry. The dungeon is only giving a +2 to CL checks, not CL proper. Now I realize that gave you the extra Scorching Ray, but Tig-0 nearly died to the first one anyway. I didn't realize your sorcerer level was adding to your CL. Looks like you rolled 1d10 d6s as opposed to 10, though. So I think it's 8d6 plus bonuses and empowering.

    I figured we'd get this all squared away considering it's the last fight and could one-shot the whole thing. We've got time to spare, but I'll roll this as I think it is correct.

    Damage: 7d6 + 16 ⇒ (6, 6, 2, 2, 2, 1, 2) + 16 = 37 empowering will bring that up to 47, and vulnerability will take the total to 70.

    Reflex: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (2) + 9 = 11

    2d6 ⇒ (5, 6) = 11

    Kitani's ice freezes the two mephits solid, leaving them to fall to the floor and shatter. Jethzerai doesn't look much better. He tries to fire back at the evoker with his gun, which fails to do anything. Ashara's flock of birds appears fighting, but doesn't manage to do much to the salamander.

    Devoid of their failsafes, the portals continue gaining energy. Several let loose bursts of flame, two of which burn Kitani slightly. The first also solidifies a connection to the Plane of Fire. From it, a current of lava flows through a channel underfoot to the southern portal! You aren't likely to be hurt unless you fell on it, but the Forge is getting quite hot.

    @Ashara: Do the birds bypass DR/magic? I looked at the rules and celestial creatures don't seem to ignore it all like a paladin does.

    @Kitani: Can't quite tell your HP, but you're down 36. You can tell the higher-charged portals are dealing damage every round (no save) to those adjacent.

    "Pointy hats, what can be done about the lava pouring into the room?" Imperia asks, a little surprised, but ultimately unswayed by the development. With mechanical precision, she fires two arrows at their partially frozen foe, but, alas, her training to date hasn't accounted for a flock of birds harrying the target.     @GM: They normally don't but these celestial eagles used smite evil so they should bypass any DR as long as the target is evil. Smite evil is smite evil I believe

    Jethzerai is given the split-second view of a gigantic hammer and more freezing cold before being slammed against the ceiling by both. Either would have been sufficient, and he goes down hard. His jetpack and other gear spark wildly upon impact.

    The portals behind you are still active and gaining power. However, pressing the salamander's big red button again causes them to snap shut. The lava now flowing through two gates reaches the main gate, but it harmlessly drains through a grate underneath before stopping entirely.

    Combat over! Good job! Anything you'd like to do?

    Mylvwara believes the most sure way to keep the gates shut would be to destroy them, which is obviously off the table. Most power sources could be removed. In the time it took others to gather new ones, the Society could likely divine a problem and send countermeasures against it. Or a guard could be set up in the Forge. There will certainly be an increased Pathfinder presence here, with how much more is left to explore!

    Ashara and the others look over the very dead Jethzerai. Most notable are his jetpack (which was empowering him via an arcane bond) and his ice gun (drained of all power after trying to shoot Kitani). There is also several other broken pieces of tech and a spellbook. Amateur, compared to the team's resident wizards, but holding some niche bits of magic.

    Finally, you find that a drive on the console can be ejected. It contains most of the information the Forge has to offer. This includes further information on the portals and their function, schematics of the Red Redoubt, records of power usage (mostly from 3637 AR and before), and data related to robot construction.

    Little more remains to be done here. Venture-Captain Iorae will be happy about this!

    Unless anyone has other ideas, we'll return to the Grand Lodge shortly.

    Marw and his choker allies are waiting for you as you come out of the Forge's main elevator. While grateful, they don't ask for details and are quick to usher you from the Red Redoubt.

    Shevala Iorae waits for you outside the Grand Lodge. She is still reading, but is free to do so outside with Marw gone. She looks up. "Pathfinders! You're back quickly. And not looking much worse for wear, either. I'll assume this means good tidings, but what did you find down there?"

    Shevala listens intently as you recount your adventure. She doesn't react much until the end, but practically jumps for joy at the artifacts you've brought back.

    "You have all outshone yourselves today. I shudder to think what would have happened if you hadn’t been there to stop the Forge from self-destructing. These discoveries are fascinating," she says. She holds the experimental battery without a care to the extreme chill it produces. "We suspected that Karamoss had attempted to destroy the tower when the siege turned against him, but I never realized he was insane enough to try unleashing a volcano on another plane against Absalom! Your actions today saved not just an incredible trove of scientific and historical data, but possibly all of Absalom as well.

    "Considering all that, you deserve a break! Spend your earnings, toy around with some of these relics if you'd like to buy them. You've done good work today."
