Nonalwe
|
Nonalwe initially is drawn, as with the rest of the crowd, to the showmanship of the knight, but quickly recognizes the opportunity. "Quickly... we can sneak in now!"
She begins studying the altars and arches, looking for writing that might line up with the clues they have.
Koruda
|
Koruda will follow the others inside. She wasn't very sneaky, but hoped the distraction would be enough.
| GM Cwethan |
Luckily none of the guards are paying the slightest attention, and you are able to quickly vanish into the gloom.
It's dark in the shrine, any illumination needs to be provided by your wayfinders, cantrips, or torches.
There are several small stone altars in the small chambers. Each stands upon a raised dais and bears a small brass nameplate with the name and intended portfolio of the Aspirant.
The different Aspirants with altars here are:
Plokkis - Intended God of Spoiled Food and Wastefulness
Oggo - Intended God of the Sixteen Poses
Silmar - Intended God of Blades
The Muted God - Intended God of Silence and Serenity
Spuchasta - Intended God of Hallucinatory Incense and Herbs
Yepyari - Intended God of Clouds and Tornados
Zimpar - Intended God of Screaming Fear
But none here to anyone named Karina Clamp...
Wesley Hoggins
|
"Ah, what did the wall say Karina died of? Screaming in fear... no, no, it was spoiled rations, which is fancy way of saying she shat herself to death. Anyways, lets investigate the intended god of s#!!ting yourself, Plokkis or whatever."
| GM Cwethan |

A cursory search of the altar doesn't reveal anything new...
| GM Cwethan |
Nonalwe's examination of that altar likewise bears little fruit.
| GM Cwethan |
A cursory examination here finds nothing untoward either...
Maybe a longer search or tools other than eyes could help?
Nonalwe

Nonalwe returns to the center of the main room and casts detect magic. She moves to different locations, investigating each room from outside, trying to get a sense for if magic emanates from any of the rooms. She completes one full rotation before investigating further.

Carlin and Nonalwe's divinations find a wall with a magical aura resting in Plokkis's nook. More specifically directed, Moyen, Gali, and Wesley are able to pierce the illusion and find a cunningly concealed door - though one with no obvious means of opening it!
Perc(Koruda): 1d20 + 1 + 4 ⇒ (2) + 1 + 4 = 7

Perc(Carlin): 1d20 + 5 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 5 + 4 = 12
Perhaps the words of Adolphus, Fimbrik, or Arkath might help provide further instruction?
| GM Cwethan |
The illusion dispels and the stone door slides open with a light grinding noise.
Behind the secret door is a natural stone cave, pitch black except for the illumination you bring with you. The passage winds unevenly as you continue to explore, eventually revealing a pool of light in a back nook of the cave.
Several desks are arranged along the northern and eastern edges of this small stone alcove. Whereas the stonework leading to this chamber is rough, the walls in the alcove are polished. A single gem rests among the neatly filed papers on the desk, the source of the soft luminescence that spills out from this small room.
Nonalwe

Nonalwe approaches the desk and begins examining the papers. Are these all the answers we've been seeking?
Perception: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
| GM Cwethan |

The papers are hard to decipher, it's like they're written in some other crazy language!
Even so, the maps, and some of the snippets you're able to decipher suggest that this is a treasure trove of information never collected by the Society proper about scads of otherwise unexplored sites.
A great find to bring back to the lodge!
As you are on your way back out of the Shrine though, you hear the echoing sound of footsteps, and realize you're not alone.
Standing at the foot of the stairs with weapons at the ready, you can see three swordsmen (two halflings and a dwarf), as well as a robed half-orc.
Hopes that they might be friendly are dashed when you recognize a symbol of Norgorber in the dwarf's hand, and the badges of the Aspis Consortium on all of them!
"Looks like the diviner was worth her coin," one of the halflings snickers. "Hello little Pathfinders," the dwarf grates, "Care to share?"

Nonalwe quickly moves into the room, locking her gaze on the probably spellcaster. Peeking around the pillar to keep the half-orc in view, she readies a spell to send off in response to any spellcasting that she notices.

Moyen doesn't have a sneak attack anyways, so I'll just delay him for now.
The half-orc creeps closer, but instead of casting any kind of spell that Nonalwe recognizes, does nothing more than stare Carlin down...

Moyen, you could shoot the half-orc with a 5' step around the pillar to get a better angle. I went ahead and adjusted that for you, but sing out if for some reason that's no good.
Nonalwe's great blade flashes through the air to the great alarm of her target! The halfling flings himself out of the way, eyeing the elf with much greater care. Meanwhile Carlin crosses blades with the other slicer, her greater size winning out as she beats aside the halfling's guard and opens a long slice down his side.
Moyen creeps around and looses an arrow at the strange half-orc, managing to find his mark despite the pillar she shelters behind!

Wesley and Nonalwe still need to take Will saves against the negative channel.
Carlin, clearly off balance from the burst of foul energy, is easily parried by the dwarven priest, but that just gives an opportunity for Wesley to smash The People's Elbow into his temple!
Moyen's arrow is likewise on target, despite the pillar the half-orc hunkers behind, but all it does is graze a thin line down his arms.

The two wizards train their arcane fury on the dwarf, and he quickly falls!
Recognizing that only the most unbelievable of circumstances could lead to victory, the half-orc legs it for the stairs.
With the ambush foiled, the Pathfinders are able to leave the lodge just in time to watch Sir Reinhart's valiant attempt to vault the chasm...
But despite the pageantry and excitement, the lingering enchantments on Sir Reinhart and his horse suddenly wink out partway across, and they fall, another Aspirant who didn't even make it within the Temple itself.
The crowd disperses quickly, grumbling in disappointment as they go, and no one notices you leaving the shrine as the keepers stand vigil over Sir Reinhart's Fall.
Upon your return Drandle Dreng personally thanks you all for the wine, which he appears to have forgotten about, and is delighted that you shockingly found something else on your visit to the Wounded Wisp. He offers to speak with Kreighton Shaine, the Master of Scrolls, to expedite the Confirmations of any of you that haven't received them, and offers to find other rewarding assignments for the rest.
"Well done, Pathfinders!"
