GM bigboom |
Welcome to Gameday VIII and thank you for joining my table of 1-12 Ashes of Discovery! More details coming soon!
GM bigboom |
I am interested in joining this game.
Hi CoreStar. I see you've entered yourself in the sign up sheet so you're in! Welcome aboard!
Please be sure to setup your character sheet in your profile.
GM bigboom |
Hello everyone!!!! I hope everyone is doing well!! Thank you and welcome to my table of Ashes of Discovery for Gameday VIII!!!
So a few things...
First off, please take a look at my ground rules listed under my GM profile here: CLICK
Hopefully I haven't scared you off yet... muahaha!!!
Next, please enter your character details on the first and (currently) only slide here: CLICK
Let me know if you have any problem accessing the slide. I'm known to screw up my google docs every now and then...
And it looks like some of you need to set up your character sheets on your profiles. If you're new, then welcome to PBP on the Paizo boards!!! Feel free to ask questions at any time!!
As for setting up your character sheets, take a look at the document titled 'SFS Character Template (statblock and tagline codes)' located here: CLICK
This handy document explains how to set up and format your character sheet in preparation for our PBP game!
I'll require everyone to fill out your character's details on slide 1 and have your character sheet setup by August 25 so that we can get the game started on time for August 26. Any questions?? If so, fire away!!!
Morvruul the Merchant |
I'm looking forward to the game. You all should know, however, that Morvruul has a personality akin to that of a cartoon villain.
He has contemplated committing some...er...questionable acts.
He has been known to insult his fellow agents or contemplate their demise.
I don't think he runs afoul of the "no evil PCs" rule for SFS, but his motives are far from good. Fortunately, his paranoia and incompetence keep him in check.
If Morvruul's behavior approaches being offensive or ruining anyone's enjoyment of the game, please let me know and I will dial him back.
Profession (Merchant), Day Job: 1d20 + 14 ⇒ (4) + 14 = 18
Hmmm. I may be using my GM Reroll on that before the scenario ends.
Morvruul the Merchant |
Is it too soon to discuss starship roles?
Morvruul is a competent Engineer, Science Officer, and Pilot. (all +7)
Thus, he'd also make a good captain, though given his personality, I don't think anyone would want to receive orders from him. (Bluff +11, Diplomacy +9, Intimidate +3).
GM bigboom |
Certainly not too soon! Everyone please go ahead and discuss your characters' potential starship roles.
Relij |
When the scenario comes my PC will be of level 2, with regards to starship roles he can:
Be a Captain (Bluff +10, Diplomacy +7), Gunner +4, Science Officer +5, Pilot +8
Rayburn Giordano |
Dayjob: Going to mark a True Savior of Tasch for the day job.
Rayburn on a ship is pretty good at Engineering (+8) or Science Officer (+7 Computers). He can make a pretty decent Captain (+6 Diplomacy). He is kinda weak on guns (+4).
Rayburn Giordano |
Stealing from another game I am in.
Welp, looks like we've got two more weeks to prep for this one...https://paizo.com/threads/rzs42lly&page=2?Announcing-PlaybyPost-Gameday -VIII#98
Kinda sucks to not officially start for 2 weeks, but I guess we can banter around for 2 weeks....getting free RP in. We just can't start the 'official' mission :-)
Relij |
yeah, that is unfortunate news. However, Relij was involved in the quest into the unknown that we cut short due to Gameday (we skipped last space combat) so I am in the process of suggesting that we should finish it off. Then I will present myself
GM bigboom |
Yep, that's right. The start of Gameday is delayed for two weeks. Feel free to banter as you wish. I'll get the scenario setup on my end and will see you all in a couple weeks. If there are any questions, let me know!
GM bigboom |
Nevermind this. Just doing some prep....
1d6 ⇒ 2
1d8 ⇒ 1
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d4 ⇒ 4
1d6 ⇒ 4
1d8 ⇒ 3
1d8 ⇒ 2
1d4 ⇒ 1

cetx and CoreStar: You have both signed up for this game but I have not seen any replies or posts from you, updates to your profile with your character details, nor your character details entered into the slides.
I will send a PM to you both and if you do not respond with 48 hours of this posting, I'll remove you from this game and seek to have two other players take your spots.
GM bigboom |
Okay we're about a week away from the start of Gameday so I'm going to go around and do a readiness check:
Lastly, everyone feel free to move your character around on slide 3 to put yourselves into your desired marching order!
Rayburn Giordano |
Rayburn updated on slide 3. Also, Day Job True Savior of Tasch marking off a box.
Relij |
Ok, so I got my last chronicle, I've updated my PC to level 2 and most likely I will go with my Alter Ego: Catsial. For that purpose, I change the avatar (has the same size and border etc.) and filled out the rolls for Perception and Initiative.
Day job, Acquisition: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (7) + 11 = 18
GM bigboom |
Welcome aboard Seven! Glad you can join us!
cetx, looking forward to seeing what character you'll put together! And in case you didn't see it in my earlier post, here are the character sheets for pregens already formatted in BB code. You can use them as a template to input your character sheet into your profile.

Frøese |
Thanks for the help GM bigboom. I think I've got everything configured correctly. Let me know if I'm missing anything.
Day Job: Mechanic (specialist on part SKU F722EX-3). Rolled 11 +4 Profession → 15
GM bigboom |
Hi Frøese, looks like there is still a good chunk of information you're missing. Here are a list of items that I've spotted as missing or incorrect:
To serve as an example, here's a link to my mechanic Raatchet. However, his character sheet will be much longer than yours because he's level 7 but it gives you an idea of all the data that should be included on your character sheet.
https://paizo.com/people/Raatchet
Personally, I use PCGEN to construct my characters and generate the character sheet which I can then paste directly into my character's profile here on the Paizo forums. You don't have to do it that way but I find doing so saves me time.
And as for your dayjob roll, I'm guessing you rolled an actual physical die as opposed to using the forums dice rolling function?
Take a look at the forum formatting instructions in the Paizo FAQ here. The last line shows how to roll the dice on the forums. Go ahead and give it a try and experiment posting onto this discussion thread so that you get a feel for it.

I believe your stats with your current 10-point allocation would be: 12/13/12/14/10/12
Argh, you're right. I'm using a spreadsheet to build, and I forgot to factor in the racial and class stuff. My modifiers are correct, so the rest of the math is valid, I just forgot to grab the score totals.
Seeing your example character makes the PCGen advantage clear. I'll rebuild today with PCGen and paste the results into the Description field of the character profile.
I'll reroll my profession in my final(?) post with all my updated information from PCGen, and I'll use the dice func as detailed by Seven of Eleven.
This is great introductory information. I appreciate everyone's \[patient\] guidance.
GM bigboom |
No worries! We were all brand new to this at some point! Let us know if you have any other questions along the way!
Frøese |
OK, just posted my PCGen-erated char sheet in Froese's profile and I believe my header is accurate now.
Profession roll:
Profession(Electrician): 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11

Looking more complete! Nice!
At a glance, it looks like the major thing you're currently missing is your gear. It says you have purchased armor but nothing else?
You start off with 1000 credits so you should be able to purchase more than just armor.
Are you planning to pick up any weapons and ammo at least? Perhaps some toolkits as well? And a healing serum wouldn't hurt.
And by the way, is this your character with the SFS number of "-701"? In other words, is this officially your very first character in Starfinder Society?

That's weird. I purchased a gun and a grenade and a bunch of stuff. I've manually added my gear to the bottom of my profile now.
Yes, this is my very first Starfinder Society character.

Since this was put on hold for a couple weeks, I am going to just mention that I am going to likely be out of Wireless or Cell service between the days of September 27th until October 6th. I might have service when the ship docks and I can disembark for a little while. If you need to move the story forward, please Bigboom either bot my character, or have another player bot me.
GM bigboom |
@Ray No problem. If you can remind me again when we get closer to Sept 27, that would be great. Thanks for letting me know ahead of time!
--------------------------------------------------------
@Frøese For your inventory to be displayed in the character sheet, you probably need to 'Equip' the items in PCGEN first. After your inventory is equipped, like your armor, all items should be displayed in your exported character sheet. It should also list your weapon in the 'Offense' section of the character sheet. Give it a shot... see if your items in the inventory are currently equipped or not.
Inventory items aside, welcome aboard in signing up with your very first Starfinder Society character!!!! For everyone's first SFS character with the "-701" number, Paizo has provided a Welcome to Starfinder Society Boon. I've put together a copy of this boon for you here: CLICK
For a mechanic such as Frøese, either the first or second item on the sheet is probably most useful. With Frøese not being a spellcaster, the third item is probably not so useful. Enjoy!!!
Frøese |

That was hugely helpful. Thanks. Done, and done.
GM bigboom |
It see your inventory now and your weapons listed in the offense section. However, your ability descriptions are now removed, such as the text indicating that you've selected the exocortex rather than the drone.
Not a big deal, especially since you're at level 1 and your selections are simple. But you will probably need to have the full listing of character abilities as you reach higher levels so that GMs know what your build is.
By the way, if you didn't already catch it in the SFS Guide, while your character is level 1, you can rebuild your character and fully refund all your purchased equipment until you hit level 2. This gives you a chance to rework your build if you want and in case you don't like it, you're not locked down to your original build.
GM bigboom |
And we've started! Now would also be a good time for the team to decide what starship roles each of you will take. You will also need to decide which ship to take with you, the Pegasus or the Drake. Please chime in with your thoughts and decisions!
Morvruul the Merchant |
Conventional wisdom seems to be to pick the PC with the highest modifier for Pilot, followed by highest remaining modifier for primary Gunner, followed by highest remaining modifier for Engineer. Then fill in the rest.
However, I personally find it more interesting to just let the PCs pick where they want to go based on their personalities. If things get "hairy" in the battle, we can also switch up stations during combat in order to optimize if necessary.
Morvruul is out-performed by one or more other PCs in every applicable skill, so I am fine with him filling in anywhere.
If asked, Morvruul would request to take up the Science role (ideally as a secondary Science officer, so he can gather information and keep tabs on others during combat rather than contributing much to the battle).
As for starship preference, I have none. Morvruul would prefer the Drake so that he could examine a wider array of weapon systems more closely.
Frøese |
I'll third the vote for the Drake.
Froese has Engineer +7, so he could step up to Engineering role.
Catsial Drun |
I am indifferent to the ship type. With regards to roles:
Captain (Bluff +11, Diplomacy +8), Gunner +5, Science Officer +5, Pilot +9
With regards to boons I will slot:
Solar Powered Weapon System (Starship Boon): Pick one weapon with laser in it's name. Add +1 to damage rolls. Gunner can use 1 RP before the shoot to add +4 instead.
Seven of Eleven |
Seven is happy is someone would pick for him. His skill sets are:
Science Officer (COMPUTERS) +10, ENGINEERING +10, Pilot +2, Gunner +2, Captain (DIPLOMACY OR BLUFF) -1
Morvruul the Merchant |
I humbly suggest the following starship roles (assuming I did my calculations correctly):
Pilot: Catsial +9 Pilot
Captain: Morvruul +11 Bluff/+9 Diplo/+7 Intim & to Aid Eng, Pilot, Science/+3 to Aid Guns
Engineer: Seven +10 Engineering
Science: Frøese +7 Computers
Gunner 1: Ryu +5 Gunnery
Gunner 2: Rayburn +5 Gunnery
Rayburn Giordano |
Morvruul, I would be at +3 gunnery, not +5. Level 2 Technomancer (BAB +1), Dex 15 (+2). I have a +4 in ranged only because I have Weapon focus Small arms, and the only ranged I would be doing is small arms :-) I am fine if we think we need to have a mediocre gunner on something.
We can also have multiple engineers and science officers if that would be better. Especially if we need to fix something & divert power, or scan & balance, or target systems. I am decent at both (Computers +7, Engineering +8).
Boons are on profile page. I don't remember if the low level drake has tracking weapons, but I do have the analytical tracking package as a starship boon (actually my only starship boon....)
Morvruul the Merchant |

Morvruul is also a +3 Gunner. Rayburn has some training in a variety of skills (as well as giving "orders" to Ellen) and would make a decent captain. Shall we switch? I think it best to make sure that each "role" is covered at the beginning of battle, knowing that if we want to double up on other roles during battle by switching positions, we can.
How about the following to get us started?
Pilot: Catsial
Captain: Rayburn
Engineer: Seven
Science: Frøese
Gunner 1: Ryu
Gunner 2: Morvruul
Rayburn Giordano |
Morvruul, stay at Captain. Ray is decent at diplo, but not the best, which you have much better skills than I.
Since we have the same to hit, I can do Gunner 2. And if/when we need to both balance shields and target systems, or Divert and patch (or hold it together), I can jump out that round and do Engineering or Science.
GM bigboom |

Looks like these are the assignments thus far...
Pilot: Catsial
Captain: Morvruul
Engineer: Seven
Science: Frøese
Gunner 1: Ryu
Gunner 2: Rayburn
Looking forward to how exactly Morvruul will abuse... *AHEM* ...will lead the crew!
Rayburn Giordano |
Ryu, take the HE Missile launcher. I will use the gyrolaser or the coil gun for the first round. If you miss with the first attack, I will go to Science officer for the 2nd and spend a RP to get you 2 rolls to hit the 2nd (and maybe 3rd) round.
(Yeah, this is the first time I have EVER seen somebody have the Analytical Tracking starship boon in...so had to reread it to see how it exactly worked....)
