Witch's Winter Holiday

@Flora - Ah, gotcha! Let's see what happens!

GM Screen:
1d6 ⇒ 1

Flora's wand produces a shower of sparkles that twinkle around the airborne woman before winking out of existence. The woman frowns for a moment, then laughs again as Daathiel's scream is sucked up by something, leaving only a whimper behind that she easily brushes off.

To clarify - Daathiel's spell was effective, but she resisted all the damage. And Flora did successfully dispel something, though it is not immediately apparent what that was.

The Twin's Revenge!
Round 6! Bold may act!
Red (-47, Underground)
Blue (-42, 35 ft above ground)

Mal (-10, Grounded 2/??)
Jeras (-11)
Daathiel (-5, Fatigued, 20 ft above ground)
Flora (-11 lethal, -97 nonlethal, Fatigued, Greasy) (includes burn)

Active Area Effects:
- Crowd Status: Helpful
- Naturalist +3 (human)
- Haste (6/12)
- Cyclone requires Fly check to pass through safely in air and blocks ranged attacks

What do you do?

Flora - Jeras still has one potion of fly you just need to ask for it.

Jeras tries to fly into the cyclone again in hope that he will stab the woman.

Fly: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23

GM yesterday when you rolled a fly check instead of me you added +2, I don't know what it was for, but I didn't add it to my roll now. If I can add it than my roll is 25

+3 dagger adamantine - insight bonus-haste: 1d20 + 20 + 3 + 1 ⇒ (15) + 20 + 3 + 1 = 39
damage: 1d4 + 11 ⇒ (4) + 11 = 15

Witch's Winter Holiday

@Jeras - the fly spell grants you a bonus on Fly checks equal to half the CL. So for a CL 5 potion, that's a +2 bonus.

Unfortunately, there is also the challenge of such a steep ascent:

Jeras Fly vs DC 20: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 8 + 2 = 13

EDIT: Well, it's either go through the cyclone and then straight up (assumed scenario), or Jeras could fly around outside the cyclone for a while to gain altitude and then pass through - but then we'd have to figure out all the checks required by that movement (which means determining the flight path and how many "sacrifice 5 ft of movement to do X", which is more trouble than it's worth TBH). So I'm proceeding with Jeras inside the cyclone - you'll need to make a DC 20 Fly check to ascend straight up this round, but you should easily make it to her height given your boosted speed with haste. Does that sound reasonable?

Jeras makes it through the wall of wind, but can't get high enough to attack the woman above. She doesn't seem to notice him as she points her staff at Mal. "So we're going to do it that way, huh? Well, two can play that game - and I think you'll find I'm better at it than you!" Similar sparkles appear around the priest, but larger and in much greater numbers than Flora's casting...

So the active spell effects I have on Mal currently (in order of CL) are:
- GMW (CL 13)
- See Invisibility (CL 12)
- Haste (CL 12)
- Heroism (CL 6)
- Divine Favor (CL 4)
- Mage Armor (CL 1)
- Long Arm (CL 1)

Blue Dispel: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (11) + 13 = 24

Updated list of active spell effects:
- GMW (CL 13)
- See Invisibility (CL 12)
- Haste (CL 12)

- Heroism (CL 6)
- Divine Favor (CL 4)
- Mage Armor (CL 1)
- Long Arm (CL 1)

The crowd gasps and points as the other woman rises from the sand next to the water pyramid, her form warping and twisting strangely. She laughs at their reaction, then flicks a glowing spark in Flora's general direction...

Spellcraft DC 23:
She's casting fireball!

Fire damage: 8d6 ⇒ (5, 6, 5, 3, 1, 3, 3, 2) = 28
Flora Reflex: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (4) + 16 = 20

Flora dodges the worst of the resulting explosion, but the repeated injuries are clearly taking a toll on her.

Because fatigue is terrible, could Daathiel and Flora double-check their carrying capacity for encumbrance?

The Twin's Revenge!
Round 7! Bold may act!
Red (-47, blurry)
Blue (-42, 35 ft above ground)

Witch's Winter Holiday

Oops, sorry for the confusion Jeras. She's not flat-footed against you, just not paying attention to you.

Jeras Miss Chance, 1 = Miss: 1d2 ⇒ 1

Jeras shoots up like a rocket inside the cyclone, his dagger cutting through the wind like the the prow of a ship cuts through water. He swings at the woman as he reaches the apex, but only catches more air as his blade cuts through where her side should be. On the ground below, Mal rushes through the hot air and kicks at the other woman...

Mal Miss Chance, 1 = Miss: 1d5 ⇒ 3
Red Fortitude vs DC 19: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (14) + 13 = 27

...and his blow lands solidly again - but this woman also shakes off his stunning attack. As Daathiel and Flora restore their strength, Mal's opponent grins. "Let's see how you deal with this, worm," she mocks as she sinks down into the sandy surface of the arena again. Suddenly, her stony fists fly out from directly underneath the priest and catch him by surprise!

Red Stunning Fist vs Mal FF AC 24: 1d20 + 16 ⇒ (9) + 16 = 25

Miss Chance, 1 = Miss: 1d2 ⇒ 2
Bludgeoning damage: 1d8 + 8 ⇒ (4) + 8 = 12

In essence, a 5 ft step on a downward diagonal and a flurry of blows. I'm ruling Mal as flat-footed against these attacks because his attacker cannot be seen (just as if he were being attacked by an invisible opponent). However, neither can she see him - hence the miss chances.

Amazingly, most of her wild barrage strike true! Mal tries to withstand the stunning assault...

Mal Fortitude: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (1) + 19 = 20
Mal Fortitude: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (9) + 19 = 28
Mal Fortitude: 1d20 + 19 ⇒ (19) + 19 = 38

...and stands in a stupor, dropping the carpet (which stretches like a cat waking up from a nap). In the air, Jeras's opponent laughs in his face and swings her staff in a wide arc...

Quarterstaff vs Jeras AC 27: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Adamantine Bludgeoning damage, Electric damage: 1d6 + 4 + 5d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (1, 3, 6, 2, 6) = 28

...and catches the elf squarely in the side! Sparks rush down the length of the staff, jolting him and leaving his wind-swept hair standing on end. With a smirk, the woman flies away with the cyclone obediently following. The crowd shrieks in surprise - this is the most exciting match they've watched all day!

Jeras, Blue provokes an AoO from you due to movement. I'm going to say that the cyclone moving through your space doesn't require a Fly check from you to stay airborne - though if you move back through it, you will need to make the Fly check.

An excellent use of a reroll! And yes, the carpet is responsive again.

Also, don't forget that Inspire Greatness only affects targets within 30 ft of the bard. With Daathiel's current elevation, Flora is outside of that range.

The Exchange

Mal steps onto his carpet, flys slightly up 5’ and readies to fight defensively if he sees his foe.

I say this, not trying to be argumentative, but I think this interpretation of earth glide would make a small earth elemental, or any incorporeal creature an insurmountable foe, since it could use tremorsense or life sense and attack indefinitely with total cover, rendering it immune to counter attack

Botting Flora

Feeling more steady on her feet, Flora follows Mal's lead and also prepares to blast the earth-bound woman if she attacks again. The halfling and angel-kin don't have long to wait as the woman rises from the sands like a goddess from the ocean, fury and hatred blazing from her eyes. Mal, preparing to attack just a fist poking up from the ground, is thrown off balance and strikes only sand. Flora, on the other hand...

Kinetic Blast, Haste: 1d20 + 18 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 18 + 1 = 39

...sends a spear of wood flying across the arena straight at the woman's chest! It splinters on her rock-hard skin, but the shards embed themselves in her chest. The woman looks at Flora in shock, a dribble of blood falling from her mouth. Through the shimmering heat waves pouring down from the sky, the halfling watches her opponent slowly crumple to the ground.

"NOOOOOOOO!!!"

A shriek of terror and anger echoes across the stadium. Like a comet racing to earth, the other woman dives towards her fallen companion - not caring as both Jeras and Mal lash out...

Jeras Dagger, Haste: 1d20 + 20 + 1 ⇒ (19) + 20 + 1 = 40

...but only the priest strikes true. Ignoring her cuts and bruises, the woman places a hand on her fallen companion and glares at Mal with fury in her eyes. Mal has a strange sense of deja vu - he would have sworn he just saw those eyes and that face glaring at him just a few moments ago from the other woman.

"You think you've won, heroes - but I'll kill you for what you did to my sister."

Her voice rises from a hiss to a guttural shriek laced with magic...

Flora (+26, -8 lethal, -80 nonlethal, Fatigued) (includes burn)

Don't bother using resources to heal - tournament's over. For reals this time. Pinky promise.

After almost a minute of stunned silence, the crowd roars again in celebration! The Emissary and his entourage again step forward, thought they wait a few seconds this time to see if any more surprises happen. Satisfied that it is safe, the Emissary raises his hands for silence. "The Pathfinder Paragons are victorious!" he declares. "I present to you the champions of the thirty-first Ruby Phoenix Tournament!"

Marthysan descends to the arena and gives each Pathfinder a single phoenix tail feather. "The title of champion is yours now," he says with a beaming smile. "And to think, you even defeated the Wu sisters who were thrown out of the tournament last time for cheating! You truly are something special! You'll be invited back to this island in ten years to pass the title on to someone else, and tomorrow the priests will escort you to Hao Jin's legendary collection of wonders to choose your prize. But tonight, we feast in your honor!"

Witch's Winter Holiday

Feel free to roleplay your celebrations - this is just to wrap the official story up.

After a night of drinking, dancing, and seemingly endless bowls of Yon Loi's noodles, the Pathfinders are invited to the temple of Abadar. They follow the high priest down semmingly-endless stairs to a massive vault hidden miles underground. The priest unlocks the door with a golden key hanging around her neck - the holy symbol of the Keeper of the First Vault, Abadar. She pushes the massive doors open and snaps her fingers. Lights pop into existence, illuminating a legendary collection of countless items and artifacts of incredible beauty and value from throughout history that stretch further than the eye can see.

"You are permitted - as a group, mind you, not individuals - to take one item from the vault," the high priest instructs. "Which will you pick? Choose carefully."

Hopefully she learns between now and the next tournament, clearly the last 10 years the sisters came up with a lousy plan.”

He continues, a glint of greed in his eye when he sees the dwarven relics in the vault, but he remembers why they are there ” My thanks emissary, we’ll be choosing the Hao Jin Tapestry!”

That night Mal celebrates with his teammates and Marthysan, glad for their triumph.
