Bringing this to discussion.

Flanking vs Large creature.

The line through the centers of our squares did not pass through opposite corners, which is how I interpret the requirement.

In looking at it again, I now believe Tridyn is correct. I was expecting it to work with any square of a Large creature, but that doesn’t appear to be the case any more. It is also different in that everything is from the center of a figure now.

Still working to understand some of these rules.

I can roll it, but we can reevaluate if I keep missing it!

That's my understanding as well.

The horse went down when Tarbh hit it, so we can retcon people's actions accordingly and fold any adjustments into my next post.

Adrian, I don't understand if you are using exact initiative order or posting order. Since Tarbh posted next to last, is Tarifi the only one who needs to retcon? And can he just send that spell to another target?

Hmm

Escaping the Grave

Ah, I'll swap to posting order. My bad, folks!

The way Initiative is often run in PbP is weird to start with, but you get used to it.

As a PbP GM, I use grouped initiative and here is the explanation I give in my opening Discussion post.

——

Initiative in PbP

I will roll all Initiative checks for PCs and NPCs, sort them, and organize them into blocks. I will bold the names of characters that should act. I will take the NPC actions in order and reserve the right to delay an NPC in order to make them act with a group of other NPCs.

When it is your turn to act, please post. Do not wait for someone else to post just because they had a higher Initiative. If you know what you want to do but want to wait for someone else’s action to go off first, just say that.

Here is an example of how you could post before another player but have it go off after another player:

Quote:

Sir Cumference waits for the elven archer Mister Oakleaf to get done firing his arrow before charging the Wily Snark.

Attack with Pointy Stick: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Piercing Damage: 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4

I (and most other PbP GMs) do grouped Initiative in order to keep the adventure moving. In PbP people will have different posting schedules and often live in different time zones, Waiting for posts in order could make a single round of combat take days to resolve. Even in a normal game, that slows things down too much. In a special, you would never have time to complete anything.

Within the rules, it is as if everyone within the same Initiative block delayed until they could post.

——

This really helps speed up combat as you are no longer waiting for the next person in Initiative order to post before resolving things. It also helps prevent retcons.

I have seen a couple of other ways of handling things, but for me the above method works best.

It looks like we are in a situation where we have to hunt for the next encounter. In face to face, this moves pretty quick because everyone is around a table and it only takes seconds to find out there is nothing interesting in a room. In PbP it can take days to get anywhere interesting just because of posting delays.

Would it be alright if we established a route and a procedure so that we don’t waste a lot of time with empty rooms?

We could draw arrows on the map to indicate route.

Since in game we have limited time as well, I would suggest we try to deal with two rooms at a time. Procedure could be something like this:
1. Try to keep the two groups within 50’ of each other so if combat breaks out they can get to each other.
2. We ascend the stairs to second level together.
3. Locked doors call for Salliss.

I would suggest Tarbh be in one group and Trildyn the other. Maybe put Pip in one group with Sallis in the other and Tarafi going to the group that has the most stuff he can use his skills on.

What do others think?

For this round, let's go with Tarafi and Trildyn going to the southern rooms and Salliss, Pip, and Tarbh heading to the north. We can rearrange in the next one if you'd prefer a different configuration. I've put in a route for the Tarafi/Trildyn group, so feel free to alter based on where you'd like to go.

Hey Adrian --

Tyranius just sent out the note about pre-reporting games that are going to go past the end of the Gameday (so that the Online VO team can close out boons and such). Since we know this game is likely to go over the deadline, you might as well report it now, giving the VOs more time to process the reporting.

Generally speaking when reporting early you assume that reporting conditions go in the expected manner. If the players surprise you, you can write Tyranius an amendment after the fact by replying to the reporting email you get from us. It does not hurt to note in the notes section that this is a game being reported before conclusion.

I'm going to be doing the same thing today with the SFS game that I am running, because I think it's possible that we will go past the deadline by a day or two.

Hugs,

Hey, Adrian! I know it's tough to keep a PBP going when things get busy. I don't know if this would work for this scenario, but I got Dennis to act as an assistant GM for Ruins of Azlant when I had trouble keeping the pace up. Could one of us help by resolving some of the minor actions and leaving the big narrative posts for you?

I took a little bit of time to put together notes to help us track what has been done.

I’ve made it so others can modify the document. There are probably things I missed and maybe someone can figure out a better way to organize it.

Hey all - Dennis asked me to pick up this game and get you to the end of the scenario, and I'd love to do that. I just got the scenario this evening, so I'll get to reading and get us going again in a day or two.

Thanks for the notes you put together, Bret - that will be helpful in getting me oriented to where we are in the timing aspect of the scenario, as well as tracking treasure bundles.

Okay, gang, a few housekeeping items, since it seems there was some confusion about who was where doing what:

The rooms on the current floor are now all numbered on the map, in case we need to reference where things are happening.

The arrows showing the planned path are now dashed lines for areas you have already visited.

I moved the green arrow team back into the office, where their most recent actions took place.

I’ll try to remember to put headers in my posts to indicate where things are taking place and who’s there when they happen.

Also, as a minor retcon, you would have recognized the cultural significance of the Iomedan wheel that served as the sign for the tavern, so I’m going to say you loaded it into the cart. This did not take any additional time.

Edit: I have updated a few things in Bret's notes, but I'd appreciate it if you all kept them up moving forward.

Not really, was just leaving a moment for a decision on the cart, but that can wait. I'll move your group along.

That statue is heavy!

Are there allowances for creative solutions, such as ripping out a window and lowering the statue on ropes? The college is in pretty bad shape as it is.

Since carrying capacity appears to be a big part of this, are we using the errata?

I built this character before the errata and so the bulk values are higher. I think it only makes a difference of 1 bulk for the stuff my character is carrying, but I would need to double check.

DM | Blakros Matrimony

I don’t recall what the new bulk errata says, except that I also think it makes a difference of 1 bulk. But yes, we’ll use the errata, since it reflects what the rules actually are now, right?

It seems it shouldn’t be too hard to find 16 spare bulk amongst you, though there are some not-strong characters in the party. And you only have to manage it until you get to the cart. I’ll check on Larazz’s strength and bulk too.

Alright, I picked up 2 bulk (Adventurer’s pack and Spellbook) but then lost one when double checking the count of L items. I am at 5 Bulk 3 L of 6 Bulk.

I have 1 bulk to spare, or 6 if going for maximum encumbrance. I can pretty easily hand over a few L items in order to get another Bulk free.

With the new backpack rules, if he stows his weapons in his backpack Tarbh can carry another 11 bulk before he's overburdened. I don't think it's worth trying too hard to stay under the encumbered limit, as we can always set the thing down.

Vigilant Seal

I forgot to account for the backpack! Guess I have 3 bulk available without encumbrance, 8 with.

Regardless, it sounds like we can carry the statue with just two people then, allowing others to Scout and be ready for bad things to happen during transport.

So, who do you want helping you Tarbh?

Grand Lodge

|| Spell Templates

Whoever else is well-prepared to have weapons and implements stowed as they carry the statue. Tarbh can do that without issue, since his anger creates his weapon. Trildyn is the other big strong type, but I think it makes sense, here in hostile territory, to have one of our front-line types to be armed and ready to fight. How do you feel about carrying something heavy, Pip?

The party looks at the back end of the statue, which only has a pair of striped gnomish socks and some snazzy looking shoes sticking out.

I haven't really dealt with the ability, at a table or via PbP, so I'd welcome suggestions. Since it doesn't require a reroll from me or really change the result of an attack roll (besides modifying the damage), I'd say you could do it after an attack connects or give me an if/then statement about how you'd use it.

Thought I would mention that the only Hero Points given out so far were the one per player at the beginning of the game.

Thanks for pointing that out, Salliss. Hero point distribution is definitely a part of PFS2 I have not yet internalized.
