Hmmm... go on a plane, and you beat up poor Fairbeaks! He'd be attacking at reach... not sure why he's right up in the guy's grill! Shouldn't have been an AoO =)

Theo says a few choice words in Tien, as Fairbeaks falls, and angrily steps towards the enlarged bugbear, laying into him with his club in retaliation.

5' step, then full attack, focused on the enlarged red guy, and shifting to white if red happens to fall over.

Melee vs red, PA, bard, haste, goblinoid: 1d20 + 15 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 15 + 2 + 1 + 1 = 33, for 1d10 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 16 + 2 = 24 damage.

@Theo: completely missed that Fairbeaks had reach; I suggest you include that in his stats or botting instructions! this is quite unusual (and powerful) for an animal companion! :)

Theo makes short work of the large brute with two nasty strikes, then he puts an end to the archer with the white bandana as well.

Nyloth and Rallas fall upon the remaining blue-booted archer and end his days permanently.

Aram Zey stands once more before the tapestry, a renewed light in his sunken eyes. “The Hao Jin Tapestry is stable at last. While you were performing your duties, I have reached a better understanding of the chaos you faced. The tapestry is still in dire condition. Lacking Hao Jin’s own magic, the tapestry has been using small pieces of departing souls to maintain itself over the centuries. This mechanism is depleting the tapestry’s water sources and spawning undead horrors. However, thanks to you, we have time to search for a more permanent fix. For now, get some rest, and—”

The former Master of Spells staggers back as a three-foot tear down the center of the fabric gouts sudden flame. Pathfinder agents flock around him, scrambling to assess the damage. A vein pops out on his forehead, and he yells sharply, “Pathfinders! What have you done?” He cuts himself short, taking a deep breath and muttering to himself, “Keep it together. Don’t take it out on the agents.” Frowning, he returns his gaze to the tapestry, his eyes darting wildly across its surface. When he speaks again, his voice is low and determined, “This new rift is no accident. Something is attacking the tapestry from the Astral Plane. Damage of this magnitude must have spawned hundreds more undead. Quickly, re-enter the demiplane and fend off the invaders!”

GMs, please begin part 3!

During this part of the adventure, you can choose either to confront the undead or to beat back the invaders from the Astral Plane. What do you do??? (either option takes 10 minutes of travel for the purposes of spell durations - announce all buffs via ooc tags in your next post)

Astral Invaders here we go...

The heroes witness the following as they teleport into the tapestry:

A gaping hole mars the sky of the tapestry. Beyond the rift, dozens of strange vessels float in the Astral Plane, crawling with invaders. Every surface of the tapestry realm stretches and tears as it tries to repair itself, creating more rifts in a slow but devastating chain reaction. The vessels deploy invaders to wreak havoc as the demiplane disintegrates, in seemingly three main directions: the Temple Empyreal, Round Mountain or the Desert Ruins you just fought the bugbear in.

Which group do you decide to intercept first?

Nyloth doesn't cast any buffs for now. Being last out of the PCs, my turn is a little dependent on what others do.

If another PC engages them in melee:

Nyloth runs forward (with the run feat) to get into melee range as well, readying himself for any of the Giants attacks.

If no one else is quite in melee range yet:

Nyloth keeps pace with his allies, not wanting to immediately rush ahead and draw the all of the combined attacks of two giants

Moved him forward 30ft for now, but he can make it 150ft if he runs

"Giants." Theo spits out, clearly not a fan. He quickly... or as quickly as his short dwarven legs can go... moves to catch up to Rallas and Hamish.

He calls a command to Fairbeaks as he goes, though the bird remains where it is, quivering slightly, as it squawks in response.

Handle Animal (push): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29

Double move, then command Fairbeaks to do the readied attack thing (thus the push, if needed)

Axebeak Animal Companion

Fairbeaks crouches, like some land-bound bird of prey, eyes fixed on the giants up ahead, ready to leap into action, his entire form tense from excitement.

Fairbeaks stands ready to charge the first giant that gets within reach of Rallas or Theo. (He can charge up to 60' (with 10' reach to get a little further)

If readied action triggers:

bite, PA, charge, str, bard: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 8 + 2 + 1 + 2 = 28, for 2d6 + 14 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (3, 1) + 14 + 2 + 2 = 22 damage.

(backs up like the others and readies an attack for any giant coming his way)

Knowledge Checks

Nyloth and Hamish backpedal out of the fog, and a few slow seconds later, Rallas stumbles out, a massive gaping hole under his left shoulder, his armor and clothes soaked with blood.

Styfis takes a step forward so as not to risk catching one of his two elven brothers by mistake, and finalizes the complex geometric thought construct he had been building in his psyche. The magic is suddenly unlocked, shaping itself in front of him in a fist-sized bead of fire, which sings and zooms forward and into the fog cloud, only to explode dead in its center, lighting the fog in red and orange hues and momentarily painting the silhouette of the two giant against the semi-opaque backdrop.

Screams of pain and rage are bellowed by the giants who would much prefer to stay moist and damp, as opposed to fried into a crisp.

Fog effect:
The fog obscures all sight, including darkvision, beyond 5 feet. A creature within 5 feet has concealment (attacks have a 20% miss chance). Creatures farther away have total concealment (50% miss chance, and the attacker can’t use sight to locate the target).

The Exchange

N Dwarf Ranger 9

Ah, boo... fireball doesn't disperse fog cloud, like it does obscuring mist!

Seeing Rallas' wound, Theo moves up in front of the elf, so the giants have other concerns when they come out of the fog. He stands ready to defend himself and the others, motioning for Fairbeaks to circle around the side and be ready.

Single move, then ready to smack anything that gets close enough, defensively, though its unlikely to happen as they have reach.

readied attack: 1d20 + 15 + 2 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 15 + 2 - 4 = 22, for 1d10 + 16 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 16 + 2 = 24 damage.

Axebeak Animal Companion

Fairbeaks' head perks up at Theo's gesture, and the giant bird darts around to the left, circling around the ruins there, before stopping, his entire feathered frame quivering in eager anticipation of prey.

Charge in if something comes out of the fog and gets close to Theo

bite, charge, PA, bard, str: 1d20 + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 8 + 2 + 2 + 1 = 22, for 2d6 + 14 + 2 + 2 ⇒ (5, 1) + 14 + 2 + 2 = 24 damage.
If it hits: Sudden Charge (Trip): 1d20 + 14 + 2 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 14 + 2 + 1 = 20
