Hey Everyone,
I have some unfortunate news. I regret to inform you all that we will have to postpone Gameday VIII by 2 weeks.
This would place our new dates for Gameday at: 09 Sept 2019 - 17 Nov 2019
WHAT IS GOING ON? WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS?
As most of you are aware, the majority of the GM’s have not received their scenario support for the Convention to include a good portion of the Specials. With Tonya occupied by other duties this weekend, we realized as a team that we are very unlikely to see the remainder of scenario support drop by Monday the 26th. Multiple avenues were discussed and what seems to be the best solution is to push Gameday back by two weeks. This will allow enough time for the GM’s to receive their scenarios and prep them.
BUT WHAT IF WE ALREADY HAVE OUR SCENARIOS, CAN WE START THEM?
Please hold off until the new start date to be able to eligible for your boon rewards. I understand this is a large inconvenience, we are doing everything we can to make this work. Part of that is to have everyone one the same start / end times rather than scattered.
We apologize for the inconvenience that this may cause, but we want all our GMs to have a chance to shine.
HOW DO I NOTIFY MY PLAYERS?
Go ahead and post the news to your tables. Feel free to copy this email if you wish. We will be posting notices in all the PBP lodges as well as the Gameday VIII Announcement page.
I know this is not what we hoped to do, and I’m sorry. Thank you for understanding that we’re scrambling to fix this.
If you have any other questions please don’t be afraid to ask.

To those of you who haven't read up on the Medium class, here is a quick summary of how it will go for this scenario.
I can channel a different spirit each day to have a different set of abilities. My default, if nothing else is indicated, is the Marshal spirit with the 'Good of the Many' taboo. Since we have plenty of martial prowess, 2 divine casters, trap finder, face skills, and knowledge skills pretty well covered; that is probably what I will go with for this scenario.
In the mornings, I will have a seance to channel a spirit. If any of you want to take part, I can give you the Seance Boon for the day. If I am channeling the Marshal; during the seance, you can pick which boon you wish to use for that entire day. Your choices will be:
a) Archmage - Gain +2 to damage for spells that cause hitpoint damage.
b) Champion - Gain a +2 to non-spell damage you cause.
c) Guardian - Gain a +1 to CMD (very niche utility).
d) Heirophant - Gain +2 to healing spells or abilities (not magic items or fast healing).
e) Trickster - Gain +1 to any skill and it becomes a class skill if it wasn't already.
With the Marshal I will also have a limited number of times (3) each day that I can give you a d6+2 to a failed d20 attack, save, or ability check (after 3 times, I start suffering bad effects). Usually I save those for dangerous seeming failed saves.
However, if we know we are likely to need something else on a given day, I can channel a different spirit. For example: if we find it likely we are going up against something that is vulnerable to cold, I could channel the archmage and take ray of frost and snowball spells.
Halunzet "Hal" Methrigum |
I will break the trend and take Trickster, applied to Acrobatics, which brings my mod up to +8.
Nevedno de'Morcaine |
If these are boons more than one of us can possess at a time, Alarien will take the Champion bonus as well.
Yup. Any number can take any boon.
Oh, and since he is usually channeling the Marshal he sometimes tends to be kinda bossy and assume he is in charge. The folks I usually play with have learned to just ignore his orders. (Especially since they are sometimes horrible orders, depending upon who I feel like he is channeling that day!)
The Armenian Man |
What can I say? He's built for melee, and I guess has never been in a situation yet where that's been a problem. Guidance every round isn't a bad use of his actions, though.
Nevedno de'Morcaine |
I can't remember the last time a low level scenario had opponents out of javelin range. I get my strength bonus to damage with those. Though I thought I also had a sling, for a bit more range. Apparently not.
DoubleGold |
About the gold. Yes you found gold in game, but when you spend it in game, you too spend it on the chronicle. If you would not have found that gold in the pirate ship, you would receive less gold on your chronicle. Any gold you spend comes out of your pocket or chronicle funds, but it is still noted on your chronicle as a purchase. You definitely have the funds to cover it, see bottom note. Now any items you find and use are not counted against you.
I'm just asking, cause there would be that one player that doesn't want to lose 3.3 gold or so and would dare to sleep outside and risk a bunch of stuff on the streets while eating a trail ration.
Halunzet "Hal" Methrigum |
Ah, I see. I didn't realize that's how it worked with modules, since generally the rewards found in the adventure don't directly match up to the Chronicle. Does it work that way for found consumables, as well?
Alarien Amankiir |
I have to admit that I'm a bit lost now. We have a couple of people who want to try infiltrating by pretending to join the cult. We have a paladin who has vetoed that idea, and the paladin and one other (Alarien) want to attack at night.
We started to approach at night, but apparently got cold feet. What are we doing now?
Bluffing our way closer before we attack, or trying to infiltrate by pretending to join the cult? I can't speak for Edwin, but Alarien suggested the night attack because it seemed like infiltrating by pretending to join the cult could be a paladin code violation (at least, I assume that's why Edwin objected to begin with).

Yes, that is pretty much why I objected. But I can go with the flow.
Halunzet "Hal" Methrigum |
I would imagine attacking a temple with no evidence of wrongdoing, and thus running afoul of the city guard, is also a paladin code violation. Since we can't talk to the cobbler or anyone else to find out any information, we literally know nothing about what these people are doing, other than that this guy we just met says he thinks they're up to bad stuff that he has no evidence of.
I get the impression that the module pretty much just railroads the group into the infiltration plotline, and so I'm trying to go along with the flow of the module. The GM basically told us - which I appreciate - that an attack plan is likely to fail, so even if we decided that we just wanted to attack them based on the information we have, it doesn't seem like that's going to get us a resolution we want. There are no other investigation avenues open, it seems.
DoubleGold |
Yes the module railroads you into infiltration plotline but says other ideas are possible which is why I took you inside the temple, therefore if you attacked them inside the town guard wouldn't be there. But taking on the early bad guys is very hard cause of the numbers involved if you were to try to assault them. Cause you are fighting a boss along with plenty of men with the assault route (not those six guys), vs the infiltration route you fight a boss along with few men in a single combat. It is also hard to make the assault route work, which many of you wanted, which is why I was giving you possible stealth attacks from the outside.
The Armenian Man |
Hi all,
I'm overextended for GameDay and so I'm bowing out of this game. Sorry to downsize the party; best of luck to all of you. @GM, when you get a chance, can you remove The Armenian Man from the list of characters so this game drops off my Campaigns tab?
Thanks!

Okay, so the real world reason why most people join cults and hate groups is cause they want a longing for this world.
Like those who join the KKK usually do it because they were bullied at home or by their friends. Or the those people were rejected by others and the feel the need for acceptance and sometimes power. Not everyone who joins the KKK were bullied or rejected by others, I would say almost everyone is though and that applies with any cult or hate group, but that is basically how Elvar feels.
Most people who join aren't ordinary racist white people.
Most people who join are white people who were abused, bullied, has low self confidence, etc. They become racist to make themselves feel better, cause they then believe they are now apart of a superior race which is what the KKK teaches, when really all men are created equal.
Halunzet "Hal" Methrigum |
Yeah, but most cults don't start drugging you and putting you naked in a cell on day 1. I was in the Freemasons for a bit, so I get weird arcane induction rituals ... but no reaction to "Hey don't worry about the dead acolyte" 5 minutes after joining sets a tone of what to expect from this from Elvar.
The Sentinel |
True, but that just leads me to believe that the cult leader has alternative motives for keeping this cult going. Enough alternative motives that the deaths of acolytes means nothing to him.
Halunzet "Hal" Methrigum |
Right. I know the guys in the masks are psychos who are going to have to die. I'm trying to figure out if we can get the other recruit on our side, or if we're going to have to kill him too.
Nevedno de'Morcaine |
Maybe I'm missing something on the map ... but the dining room is *more* secluded from calling for aid than the hallway is, isn't it? We have already gotten the acolytes out, so if we jump the priests, we'd want to do it in the dining room.
I was thinking game mechanics. By the PF rules, you only get a standard action in a surprise round. You are a shooter, so it's ok for you. Melee guys can move or attack. Makes it hard to close and fight unless you have an open charge lane.
But if they walk out in our ambush, no one has to move to get within reach of them.
DoubleGold |
I doubt we will finish in time, but I'll report the game on the 16th. Definitely finish before thanksgiving. I'm almost positive everyone will survive and find everything.
Emails, I use to have them from some of you, but I did get a new labtop about a month ago and forgot to transfer that document. I need emails to get chronicles from you.
