Assuming that Matheus tells us sooner than later, Petronia will suggest the marketplaces where Runa was. We should also find out who this Graal is. I'm sure he'd have a bone to pick with Runa. What Petronia won't suggest is going back to the inn to wait while the authorities do the investigating.

It does seem that the marketplace to see if we can spy on this Runa is our best bet, finding out who Graal is comes a close second, and investigating the 'slaughtered village' being a very distant third. Neither Runa nor Graal seem like wholesome sorts so subtlety seems called for.


Are you continuing to carry the chest around? Or dropping it off somewhere?


If I don't hear differently, I'm sending you to a rough market with the chest.

Marketplace seems to be the only clue, so off we go. Once outside, Matheus will bring the rest up to speed what the guards spoke in Skald. And since there was been nothing to suggest it wouldn't be a good idea to keep the chest close, let's continue to carry it.

Oh Angie... I just realized Erikson is writing a continuation series to Malazan Book of the Fallen. Although it won't be out until next August. I didn't find myself too captivated by the Kharkanas Trilogy, but hopefully this will mark the return to the excellence of the original series.


Oohhh...exciting! I'm just finishing the Crippled God, having finally got through them all for the second time.

I think Matheus would realize that by sticking to the letter of his promise, he's breaking the intention. After all, the "don't let it out of your sight" was for the travel, not a murder investigation. But I'll leave it up to you.

On the other hand, we were intended to hand over the chest to Herr Skagni as soon as the journey was over, so while following the letter of the agreement we could perhaps forgot about the chest now, Matheus would see that as breaking the intention of the promise, which he considers to be the safe delivery of the goods to Herr Skagni's hand. If we were certain he was dead or beyond our reach, that'd be another thing, but things still remain mysterious enough we can hope to find the missing man eventually.

Anyway, back to books... if you hadn't had time to finish the Tales, I assume you haven't picked up Ian C Esslemont's books either? Those are worth reading, as they double back to flesh out some mysteries only hinted at in Erikson's main series, and the last ones extend past the Tale's end. Lots of goodies about the Crimson Guard, the Stormwall, Dancer's and Kellanved's forays into Shadow and the founding of the Malazan empire. Good stuff.
