Idruzi Zarshai wrote:...how is Dresden talking with his animal companion? Hunters get that, but at a later level. That is a trait called Beastkin which you can take at level 1.

You learned their ways and have more in common with your beastly kin than members of any humanoid race. You gain a +1 trait bonus on Survival checks and can use speak with animals as a spell-like ability at will to communicate with the type of animal that raised you.I can cast that once every 5 or 6 minutes as needed but it really is for comic relief. All of the other actual commands (like attack that or flank) are trained as the companion pet Tricks which Murphy knows and has a Handle Animal DC that I can't fail.
That is rad!

The options the Azers gave us are a bit confusing. If we ask them to get documents for us, for instance will they hand us the goods but not leave their posts and we'll still have to fight them? That sounds backwards.

GM Aarvid |

There is not alot of detail, but options are
1) Help all the Azer to leave/escape their stations (mainly slaves)
2) Collect treasures
3) Gather important documents

![]() |

Let's get the slaves out of the way then. This mission is already morally ambiguous enough.

GM Aarvid |

Qalkami expects the PCs to plant evidence in Emberhearth, ideally in places and in a way that both seem natural.
As long as a player can provide a compelling reason why a certain piece of evidence might fit somewhere, potentially any room might suffice.
The PCs can enter the building from a variety of directions, favoring either a kick-in-the-door approach or more subtle tactics.
How you enter the building can change the reaction and response by those inside.

![]() |

This isn't much of a sneak team, but I don't think we have to be as loud as kicking the door in (though I'm expecting this to come to a fight somehow). Natty has good Disable I think, so should we just walk up to the back door and see what happens?

GM Aarvid |

FYI - We are planning our family trip to Florida, which involves 1.5 days of driving. However, I don't know the exact days yet...but this weekend. So posts could be sparse and late at night. Christmas eve I will likely not be posting either as we have our family events. :)

GM Aarvid |

Also. For init and combat post in any order but I will try to apply actions in initiative order. Use delays or readies if desired.

![]() |

The next two weeks are generally going to be filled with holiday/vacation plans for a lot of folks. I'll try to keep up with the posts, but also having family over and generally enjoying the holiday break.
Hope everyone has some good holidays.

GM Aarvid |

Sounds good, Dresden. I am not going to advance us until you and Natty post.
FYI - We packed our van and we were ready to drive to Florida yesterday but then my wife wasn’t feeling good. A trip to the ER and we have been in hospital since with acute diverticulitis. So I may be limited on posting until we get her back home. Hopefully tomorrow.

GM Aarvid |

Indeed!
Although, I wish for all our sakes it was something more like “we bought a scratcher ticket and won $5000 too” instead. Definitely not fun. Hope your family has a speedy recovery.

![]() |

Take your time. It looks like much of the forums are slow/down during the holidays anyway.

GM Aarvid |

Spent more time traveling yesterday and with family today. I will see if I get any posts or if we want to wait or bot the two.

![]() |

Just posting that I'm still listening here. I'm not very bothered whether we wait or bot. The larger issue is what to do if they don't return on a longer time frame.

GM Aarvid |

Ok I am heading to Daytona tomorrow. With New Years Eve I do not expect anyone to post so will pick up on the 1st or 2nd. Have a happy and safe NewYears all.

![]() |

I am also ready

GM Aarvid |

Ok driving back from Florida tomorrow. Might be able to get post in but likely Saturday to get us back

GM Aarvid |

Finished drive home. Sorry for the delay getting restarted. Everyone can go again and we should be back to 'normal pace' again this week.

GM Aarvid |

FYI - we are back in ER with my wife like before. So may be unavailable for tonight and tomorrow.

I'm so sorry about the health troubles. Take care of yourself and your wife.

Question for the GM: can the efreet really 5' step upward? To my best understanding, flight rules make going up double cost or effectively difficult terrain.
Specifically, I guess the language says 'rise at half speed'. I don't see how that would be different though.
If they can 5' step upward, Idruzi's best move is probably one of:
Cast Fly on someone and hope they can kill the efreet or cast Dimension Door to remove the most hurt members of the party from the area.
I can't out-heal the kind of damage that she's putting out. I wish I'd gotten Communal Resist Energy up sooner.
Also a minor note since you are tracking damage for all of us: Idruzi has fire resistance 1.

Back online again, after 3+ weeks of Christmas and New Year without doing any piazo, facebook, twitter, emails and the like, (except work stuff). Will see what I've missed and how dead I might be!!
@GM Best wishes to you and your family.

There appears to be lots of debate going back years on the 5’ step question. It used to be more clear since efreet has perfect maneuverability
But PF dropped that part. Going up is not specifically difficult terrain but has the same movement penalty. I am open to change if there is an official faq etc. The efreet stepped back and up 45 degrees so that is not quite the same but close.I will adjust the damage on the next post.

![]() |

Did its movement provoke then? Even if it isn't officially difficult terrain, if the movement cost is double, I'm not seeing how it could 5' step up in a way that takes 10' of movement. I'm still not sure where we're coming down on how this happened.
And yeah: perfect maneuverability used to mean more in 3.5 than it does now.

GM Aarvid |

Sorry for the gaff on my part. So much for trying to post from memory on a phone in the hospital. :(
Hopefully we are back on track.

GM Aarvid |

Idruzi and others casting buffs, just for record keeping on buffs and durations, who was included in resist fire communal and what was the duration for each member? (was it evenly set for all?)
Figure about half a minute at the library room and another minute into and out of kitchen, with the short time searching, walking etc.

![]() |

Dresden doesn't need the communal fire resist as he has a natural resist of 5 and can add protection himself as needed. Murphy has the Protection from Energy (fire) up for 60 minutes (10 min/level).

GM Aarvid |

FYI - I am flying to Seattle on business tomorrow. Will be gone until Friday night. My posts will be limited/late from the hotel.
I just need two to agree on opening the door or picking another #

![]() |

Since Dresden doesn't need it, the targets would be: Idruzi, Natty, Zaigan, Umberto & Taman. I don't think that misses anyone? So a duration of 14 minutes each.

![]() |

Zaigan, can you take that thing if he starts flying around? We established earlier that this party is bad at ranged, I think. Idruzi can give you Fly though.
Thank goodness we got that fire resistance going. I didn't think we'd be taking more quickened Scorching Ray.

![]() |

Once I have used non-lethal means of taking down that azer joining fight, Efreeti is my next target. I recall using diplomacy as a fullround action is at -10 penalty, correct? Disarm is my other option.

![]() |

Just to check, this is a low tier encounter, right? An efreeti, large elemental plus an azer seems like a lot. I recalculated our APL and got 6.333, which should still be low tier.

GM Aarvid |

Yes. The high tier is much tougher. Advanced efreet, dragon and tougher Azer
Considering the entire party has resist fire/20 this is much less deadly than if you consider 3 quick scorching rays and burn damage from all opponents attacks. Dealing with flying is the only real challenge.
Not to say it is a cake walk as it is still CR8+

![]() |

Just checking that we weren't in error. Thanks.

GM Aarvid |

Getting close to the end (finally). Please validate that I have all your PFS numbers and day job rolls.
