The watch order is probably something like: [HUMAN] [HUMAN] [CHANGELING, DWARF & HALF-ORC in some combination] [HUMAN] [HUMAN]. We definitely want the folks with darkvision in the middle, but other than that, the exact order doesn't really matter all that much.

I don't think taking watch should interrupt your rest vis-à-vis spell preparation, or at least I have yet to play with a GM cruel enough to rule so.

As for the marching order, I suppose we want the squishier casters near the middle, sandwiched by bulkier types. Anyone with at least passable ranged capability should bring up the rear, so they can hold back if the frontline gets crowded. Bragi would be best in the front, but he won't be completely useless further back, either.

EDIT: Bragi isn't much help while travelling, at least not right now. He'll get Song of Marching at third level, and I'll definitely invest more in wilderness-appropriate skills and spells when levelling up, but his low Wisdom makes it so that he'll never be more than a passable outdoorsman.

I've never had a GM say taking watch kept people from preparing spells, but I have had GMs say that a class like wizard that actually specifies uninterrupted rest needed to take first or last shift instead of splitting their sleep up.

How's this sound -
1st Shift: Bragi / Klaus
2nd Shift: Dyrm / Ingrid / Livanna
3rd Shift: Thorfinn / Kinnith

(Split up the humans so the two best perception are on different shifts, and we have the ability to let someone rest all night if needed and swap someone to still have 3 shifts of two)

Travel Order:
Scout: Livana (via Crys)
Tracker: Ingrid
Main Group: Bragi and Thorfinn, then Kinnith and Klaus, with Dyrm in the rear (might not even need an order as long as we have scout and tracker specified)

Dungeon Order:
First / Scout: Kinnith (best stealth)
First Line: Bragi / Thorfinn
Mid Line: Livanna / Klaus
Rear Line: Dyrm / Ingrid

This works for me. Kinnith is a competent tracker and scout, as well as being stealthy. And he has low-light vision. But if there is a better tracker I am fine with him bringing up the rear with his now and his decent up for a rear guard action. I also like the idea of him being a scout in a dungeon situation.

The nice thing here is that we have several scouts and trackers. There’s no reason we can’t double up on survival tasks, so even with a poor roll we have a decent chance of success.

Yep. That way we can have 2 on shift at all times with one "floater" who is on mid shift but can swap if someone is injured or can't do watch for some reason.
RAW says you need 6 hours rest/sleep, so this way we can do 3 hour shifts and everyone still gets their 6.

Checking again - that good for everyone? Speak up if you have a better or different plan.

I got on the map and put icons down. For good luck, used an icon of unlimited power for the bear traps.

Plan is to have Ingrid step out into the open. The orcs will likely charge her, and if they do may trigger the traps. And if they don’t charge she can step around them safely, given that she knows their placement.

Feels like we could be moving this game along a little faster. Do the PCs need to communicate to the GM more? Do we need to bot sooner?

Yeah, this is a bit too slow for my tastes. Even with seven players, it shouldn't take more than a week to get through a single round of combat.

I am okay if the GM can't post every day. Complete GM updates are a lot of work. 3-4 a week should do it (although intermediate posts like "you hit" or "you missed" are great) but the players shouldn't take more than, say, 36 hours to get a post in when the GM says they are up. Barring circumstances, of course; I've had my share of those the last two weeks.

Yeah, you stealthed on your turn, and the first round isn't up yet. I just went back to the initiative post and then read through all the responses. We've been waiting on Orc 1 and Orc 3.

GM, can we get an update on how you are doing? If there are RL issues we all will understand and will stand by. If time/stress/etc mean stopping the campaign, that would be good to know too. Just wouldn’t want another campaign added to the list which started and stopped without any word.

Agreed. There is no shame in needing a break because something came up. OTOH if you need to cancel the campaign just let us know.
