They backtrack up the road and find the horses did not go far. Their war training apparently kept them from bolting outright even though the stench of death when they had no rider drove them back.

You are about half-way to Magnimar. Do you continue or do you head back to Sandpoint?

The next morning, Lavanor feels horrible and his wound is burning up. He does not think he needs the spell to know but better to be sure. He goes through his daily meditation and then finds that he does indeed have ghoul fever. (1 CON dmg 3 DEX dmg, make another save for day 2, FOR DC 13)

I'm not sure what order those should go in. I either get a +4 to save for the heal check or failed the heal check but saved if order is reversed.

Lavanor doesn't sleep well as his wound continues to get worse. After confirming he has ghoul fever, he collects some plants to help treat the bite. It lessens some of the pain and burning sensation.

"Since we were able to retrieve the horses, we can try to push forward. Although, we may run into additional trouble during the remainder of the trip or on our return. We might be better off returning now and then travelling as a group to Magnimar. Is there a specific time you need to deliver the prisoner? I imagine the Pathfinders would rather wait a little longer to receive her than to have us killed in the process. At least I would hope so."

At the Temple...

The Yaenit ignores Runt as she steps away and turns on Orik. The demon hits Orik and then takes a swipe at the soldier next to him. Orik manages to avoid the worst of the blow but the green soldier goes down in a fount of blood.

"Alright, let's get going then," Lavanor says as he finishes breaking camp. He struggles a bit getting on to the horse with his injured leg but is eventually ready to go.

In the forest...

The group continues south toward Magnimar. That evening they set in to make camp and rest. Lavanor's been struggling with alternating fever and chills most of the day but the ache in his leg seems somewhat less that yesterday evening most likely due to the herbs he used on it.

@Lavanor: make another heal check for bonus to save and then FOR save DC 13

The next morning they get up and ride out noting Lavanor's condition and grateful to be finishing up the ride. As Forest suspected, the group meets the first Magnimar patrol around midday. They are not friendly but not overly rude either. Both parties ride past one another and it is a mere four hours until you reach Magnimar.

At the temple...

Camil's strike lands true drawing a little blood, Orik however, misses. Then the guards each jab at the beast with one of them actually nicking the thing (6pts rolled dmg). Father Zantus continues to support Runt and casts cure light wounds on her (12pts healed).

Runt steps back into the thick of things, feeling all blessed and favored, and it shows. She never did like demons or idiot priestess. Father Zantus sure is growing on her though!

Camil's got longarm active, so he's going to avoid close contact with the demon at all costs, next round he'll use the studied strike, and then go back to trying to trip the demon once he recovers his scarf. Camil =/= melee powerhouse.

At Magnimar...

The team heads to the Pathfinder lodge. The lodge acts quickly to provide assistance. First, they escort Lavanor to their healers. After finding them he is treated and feeling tip top after a couple of potions. It turns out his own treatments allowed his body to fight off the disease but the potions allow him to recover his health (Dex and Con) in moments what would have taken days. Although her crime was against the lodge, it is Minister Faust who is holding the bounty for her. They recommend Zherxikas turn her in directly to Faust as the city matches bounty funds provided by the aggrieved party. Last but not least they ask for the opportunity to copy Zherxikas' journal so they can add it to the local archives.

At Sandpoint...

Isabella stabilizes the fallen soldier. Runt steps in and slashes the monster, its fiendish nature resisting the blow to a degree. The yaenit steps over the fallen soldier and strikes at Orik viciously (two hits, one crit, 36 dmg). Orik stumbles and appears ready to bolt.

Camil's dagger appeared to cause full damage.

Zherxikas lets them copy the journal. "Well looks like we go to Minster Faust" he says to his companions. He pauses to ask the pathfinders, "Is there any documentation we need from you to provide to Minster Faust?"

Zherxikas is informed that he should only need Lyrie herself. With that, he heads out with his prisoner (will Forest and Lavanor join him?). Zherxikas and those with him are shown in once they reach the defense ministry. Faust comes out to meet them. He appears as he did the first time Zherxikas met him; a thin tight lipped face that showed no compassion for anything with a presence of authority.

"Ahh, Zherxikas, you have brought us our prize. Good job. I suppose you will want to be paid." He motions with his hand and two hellknights who had been standing nearby move in to take Lyrie. Upon seeing them she begins to scream for help. "See my secretary for the bounty." Faust says and motions to an open door down the hall. Then he turns and walks back to his office.

"Enjoy your stay Lyrie... I'm sure its been well earned." he stays flatly. With that he turns and heads towards the open door to collect the bounty.

The secretary, a lady in a high collared, plainly decorated gray dress, is not chatty. She acts as if she has been expecting you and pays out 300 gold for Lyrie's return. Obviously, her crime was seen as exceptionally egregious. By the time you get back to the lodge it is about sundown. The Pathfinders offer you a room at no charge, they are rather full or they would have given you a room each.

Did anyone want to do anything while Zherxikas dropped off Lyrie? Any actions in the evening? Are you headed straight back or looking around Magnimar on the following day?

At the temple...

Father Zantus casts doom on the demon. The beast shudders and gets a wild look in its eyes (it is shaken). The guards maneuver giving Runt space to step in. They all attack with their spears and two of them manage to score a hit. Orik steps cautiously away from the demon and takes a defensive posture (full defense).

Forest is nearly awestruck by the sheer size of Magnimar. And I thought Sandpoint was big. The journey to Sandpoint to pick up a horse had turned in to quite the adventure. He uses his free time to tour the city and see the sights.

I dont think for has anything meaningful to do in the city since he's just kinda tagging along at this point.

Lavanor is relieved to see the city and is appreciative of the healing from the healers. After Zherxikas drops off Lyrie, he walks around with Forest exploring the city.

"I've never been to such a large city. Is there anywhere we should go?" he asks Zherxikas.

"I'm not really a tour guide... I spent my time in study at the libraries and mage guilds" he says and shrugs. "perhaps we best head back once we are rested and join our companions?"

In Magnimar...

When Zherxikas returns to the lodge, he is approached by Venture-Captain Canayven Heidmarch. "I know you have been gone a while and away from your studies but I was hoping you could return to Sandpoint for me. There are a couple of young Pathfinders who went there to study the Sandpoint light and to see what their local sage had on other local Thassilonian artifacts. I have some other things I wish them to pursue and since you are familiar with the town, I was hoping you could deliver them a message for me." Assuming Zherxikas agrees, Heidmarch thanks him and hands over a letter for Valtyra and Wrath. He assumes they will still be with Brodert Quink or at least Quink is likely to know where they are.

I was thinking Zherxikas did not really have a reason to return to Sandpoint with his current mission complete.

In Sandpoint...

Isabella steps back and channels positive energy sending it washing over her allies (heal 9pts, showing all but Orik at full). Camil slashes the beast again with a nasty strike.

The Yaenit begins to pant with the combat going against it and the doom spell working on it. It slashes at Camil to try and take out the dreaded cold iron dagger wielder. (23dmg to Camil unless Runt kills it)

"They were specifically sent to study the "Old Light" there in Sandpoint. There are other ruins around, not as numerous as here in Magnimar but still in the area. Also, Brodert Quink was a notable scholar of all things Thassilonian. He left Magnimar when his idea that the "Old Light" was actually an ancient weapon was derided. So, he set out to prove his doubters wrong. That's been several years though, and if he has found proof he has come forward with it." Heidmarch responds.

@all: Having been in Sandpoint it would be nearly impossible to miss the partial tower on the northwest side of town. Its base, about 120' across , suggests it was once huge. The walls still stand between 60 and 75 feet high with the top having been lost an age ago.

"There is the remains of a large lighthouse there in Sandpoint. It has become known as the "Old Light"." Heidmarch responds to Forest. "I haven't visited it myself but I have read a little about it."

The Yeanit is getting desperate. It moves yet further away from Runt and Camil, then draws on its innate powers of darkness. The nearest soldier attacks but is unable to disrupt the demon's magic this time. It's clawed hands glow green just before it touches the nearest soldier who crumples to the ground.

Father Zantus moves to help the man (CLW 6pts). The soldier does not attempt to rise or crawl away and waits to see if the others can distract the beast sufficiently for him to scramble back to his feet. One soldier steps over his comrade and attacks but misses. The other soldier steps up and jabs the demon with his spear.
