There are two kingmaker recruitments going right now. Both are looking for an arcane caster. One is 5th level and the other is 6th level. Maybe we could grab one of the players from those recruitments to fill in our missing arcane caster.???

Sounds like a good idea. I will keep an eye on those recruitment threads for potential arcane casters.

In the Kingmaker recruitment that just ended, the characters who were not selected include an elf wizard, an elf arcanist (who seems aimed towards being an eldritch knight), a half-orc witch, and a changeling sorcerer.

I can extend an invite to one of them. Who do you think would be a good addition?

Year, no idea, but I believe the month is Sarenith. Which, for some reason, I thought was earlier in the year.


The month is, indeed, Sarenith - placing us in early summer. Rostland had hoped to have the first allied settlement founded in the spring, but the discovery of the Whitehollow brothers' treachery delayed these plans.

The year will be set as 4718 to coincide with the Exaltation Massacre in Oppara. This political turmoil in Taldor affected the Whitehollows and resulted in them prematurely tipping their hands and losing the support of Rostland.

I was looking for surnames from the same culture as Syretia, and it stuck out as a name that felt like it went well. It led me to learning about the House of Courtenay, which has been kinda neat.

It is your character...I do not like to tell players how to play their own creations. I am fine with it as is. It will be just an added twist to the game. Might be of importance might not...we will see.

I think Magister is a perfect fit for me, thank you!

My vote for first building (besides replacing the Tenement with a House, which apparently doesn't count toward our 1 building per turn limit) would be a Shop. Like Vayelan said, Garess is a solid candidate for Warden. That'll mean a pretty substantial boost to Loyalty and Stability, but Economy will lag behind.

A Shop adds +1 to Economy and increases the settlement's base value by 500, so we'll be able to buy stuff (and have someone to buy them from!). Plus it adds +1 to the settlement's Productivity, so everybody gets a boost to their earn income checks.


Selecting the former bandit fort as the site to found your capital gives a couple bonuses, if I haven't mentioned them before. First off, the centralized location and ease of defense automatically gives +1 to Economy, Loyalty, and Stability. Second, the fort (itself built on the ruins of a Iobarian keep) provides a 50% discount on building a castle in the settlement.

The Kingdom Building rules themselves recommend choosing an Inn, Shrine, Monastery, or Watchtower as your first building. The Inn would provide +500gp base value (representing peddlers stopping in the village, I imagine), +1 Economy and +1 Loyalty for the kingdom, and +1 Society for the settlement.

Other NPCs available for leadership positions are Oleg and Svetlana Leveton (the trading post owners), Narthropple, and Sapphira.


You also need to set the kingdom's initial Holiday, Promotion, and Taxation edicts.

Holidays are general celebrations or observances that take place across the kingdom. The BP expenditure includes lost revenue from citizens not working during the holidays, preparations and logistical arrangements that occur year-round, and the cost of the actual celebrations. The benefit is increased Loyalty.

Promotion edicts are events and actions the kingdom uses to attract new citizens and increase the well-being of the kingdom, such as recruitment campaigns, advertisements about services and goods, and propaganda to improve the perception of your kingdom at home and abroad. Promotions increase Consumption, but also increase Stability.

Setting the tax level determines how much revenue you collect from taxes in the Income Phase. Higher taxes increase your kingdom’s Economy (making it easier for you to succeed at Economy checks to generate revenue) but make your citizens unhappy (reducing Loyalty).

Nevermind the Shop, an Inn makes a lot of sense. :P

Without necessarily giving us their stat blocks, can you tell us what Sapphira and Narthropple's strongest stats are?

I don't have strong feelings on the Edicts other than we should do at least 1 Holiday and Token Promotion so we don't eat any stat penalties.

Completely ooc I think an Inn is a good idea. IC Brandt will advocate for defense over economy. I’ll reread the holiday and tax thing again and put some thoughts up too


Narthropple's strongest stat is Dexterity. Furthermore, if you ask him to join your council, his desired role is Marshal.

Sapphira's strongest stat is a tie between Dexterity and Charisma.

I think Sapphira would be a good pick for Councilor. Diplomat isn't as essential right now and I would feel icky making our resident friendly medusa into an enforcer.

I have the feat Natural Ruler for my charisma. So my modifier would be +6 and we would get a +2 to stability. Not sure if that was added into the kingdom sheet or not.

As far a s Leadership roles go...
I think Narthropple would be good for marshal
I think that Svetlana and Oleg could make a great tag team at councilors.
I think that maybe having Sapphira as a royal enforcer would be a good fit.

BUT
I also feel that it is hard to add a Medusa into a any role that will not be look favorably by the populace. She is a Medusa after all. That is why I think the sneaky Royal enforcer just might be the best fit for her. I am not sure how the royal assassin would fit in here.

So Sapphira is a wild card for me right now...not sure where or if we should use her as a leadership role.
