Arratoi |
"Sorry we weren't able to save Red over there but of course we'll bring you back to Izalraan. I sure am glad we were able to save you. As Soyval said, be sure those you love get their shots and it'll help your loved ones avoid, well... y'know... death."
"Laser-shooting ooze, eh? Seems to me that the smart thing to do would be to leave it be. But no one's ever accused me or my friends of being intelligent! Lead the way to possibly certain death!!" Arratoi shoots a wink at Elminar. (hehehe... sorry, couldn't resist...)
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Elminar, do you need a couple of healing potions? I can give you two mk 1's if you want. I already did treat deadly wounds, so can't do that again to get your HP back.
Sovyal |
Seeing as we're jumping into more combat:
Sovyal takes a 10 minute breather to refocus himself and brainstorm appropriate ways to mock and belittle an ooze. (-1 RP, healing SP)
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Prima knows nothing about the ooze, I take it?
Elminar |
Elminar takes the moment to meditate before battle and using some of the serums to restore himself before the fight.
Short Rest spending an RP
Gab, thank you. I'll start by drinking my own healing serums to avoid running you out of yours.
2 Mk 1 Serum of Healing: 2d8 ⇒ (1, 3) = 4
With that roll, if it is alright, I would appreciate one of your serums to get me to a healthier total. I would also take the last, but I rather not run you out with this.
1 Mk 1 Serum of Healing from Gab: 1d8 ⇒ 3
Elminar does his best to predict the nature of the ooze before heading down from Gab's descriptions of the creature.
Could I have made a check to Identify despite not seeing it, or will I need to have a visual before being able to identify it.
Life Science to Identify: 1d20 + 10 + 3 ⇒ (11) + 10 + 3 = 24
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Gab goes to put on the x-ray visor to look through the door to the north, then glances from it to Prima. "Oh, yeah ... Guess this is technically yours, isn't it? Mind if I borrow it long enough to scope out the silo?"
GM Skeemo |
Oh nuts! I forgot to mention that the case of vaccines also had three mk 3 serums of healing. Use those before burning your own resources.
Mk 3 serum of healing: 6d8 ⇒ (8, 2, 5, 8, 6, 7) = 36 So just one will get Elminar back up to full HP.
Prima refuses the visor, saying it was of Ralveen's design and keeping it would be a constant reminder of her murder, which she could not handle. She knows nothing of the ooze.
Using the visor, Gab sees the mounds of garbage he fell into before, but sees no sign of the ooze. HeeNee opens the airlock and allows the rest of you to enter the pit from the south. It doesn't take long for the metal-encased ooze to reveal itself.
Eminar recognizes this as an immature specimen of a scavenger slime, a stowaway creature that instinctively kitbashes shells of discarded tech. You get one detail about it.
Gab: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Sovyal: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
Elminar: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9
Arratoi: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (16) + 7 = 23
HeeNee: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (5) + 10 = 15
Ooze: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
Round 1 (bold may post)
Arratoi (-4 HP, -1 RP)
Sovyal (-1 RP)
Scavenger slime
HeeNee
Gab (-6 SP, -5 RP)
Elminar (-3 RP)
Elminar |
Oh! That is nice serum! Thank you!
For the slime, Does it have any resistance to energy?
Arratoi |
Life Science to identify: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (17) + 12 = 29
Arratoi opens fire while yelling, "Get that bulbous orc-faced hopeless cheese-eating piece of garbage!!!"
Swagger Hand Cannon vs KAC: 1d20 + 8 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 8 + 1 = 27
Piercing Damage: 1d12 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Get 'em placed on the ooze!!
Sovyal |
Here's another place where being able to draw weapons on a trick attack would be very nice.
As Elminar imparts his knowledge of oozes, Sovyal clicks his tongue in irritation. He quickly draws a skinny black pistol from his coat and points it lazily towards the ooze. "No fire? Not a problem. We'll have this thing on ice in no time." Drawing a calignous shadow pistol. Going to use its entangling fusion to try and entangle the ooze.
Calignous Shadow Pistol: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (4) + 9 = 13
Calig. Shadow Pistol damage (C): 1d4 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
If a hit, enemy is entangled for 1d4 ⇒ 4 rounds. Entangling wep rules: A creature hit by an entangle weapon becomes entangled until it escapes with an Acrobatics check (DC = 19) or a Strength check (DC = 24). An entangled creature can attempt such a check as a move action. See the entangled condition.
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Well, trick attack has to have *some* downside. ;)
HeeNee |
Oh, I forgot to explicitly say, but HeeNee would have replaced the battery in her arc rifle with a fresh one after that last fight.
Elminar |
"On ice? How many times have you used that line Sovyal?" Elminar keeps his eyes focused on the ooze even as he ponders whether any part of the creature matches Arratoi's orc comparison. "Be careful, the creature uses whatever it finds. We know it at least has a laser on hand, but who knows what other gear has found itself at the bottom of this pit."
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Gab looks around on his belt. "What happened to my thermonuclear detonator? I hope it didn't fall off when I fell down there ..."
Bluff, expertise (pass secret message): 1d20 + 16 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 16 + (3) + 1 = 25
He is totally kidding
GM Skeemo |
Damage (E+F): 1d10 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15
Your confidence falls some as Sovyal's shot hits only junk and Arratoi's hand cannon round bounces almost harmlessly off the creature's metallic shell. It slithers forth and produces a plasma rifle from its sticky folds, firing a beam of energy into Elminar and the ysoki.
Round 1 (bold may post)
HeeNee
Gab (-21 SP, -5 RP)
Elminar (-18 RP)
Round 2
Arratoi (-18 SP, -4 HP, -1 RP)
Sovyal (-1 RP)
Scavenger slime (-1 HP, get 'em until Arratoi's turn)
HeeNee |
HeeNee hones in on the ooze.
All right, Muncher, there's just one and it shouldn't be moving fast. Let's get some tracking data.
Static arc rifle, combat tracking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 2 = 26
overcharged ouch!: 1d12 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (9) + 6 + (2) = 17 electricity damage
Arratoi |
"Just a light surface burn, Gab! Ain't a thing!"
Arratoi then moves west and takes cover behind some debris.
IB to heal Gab for 18 SP. Do the map features Arratoi's token is hiding behind provide cover?
Sovyal |
Sovyal gives Elminar a broad, unsettling smile "Line? You can be assured that everything that leaves my mouth perfectly unique. And hand tailored in class and sophistication to my current companions. Low effort ice puns are typical in elven circles, are they not?" He waves his pistol in a rough circle in the air as he gestures towards Elminar. Mid-gesture, he pulls the trigger and sends a surprise shot towards the ooze.
Trick Attack (Bluff): 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 15 + 4 = 34
Cal. shadow Pistol: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (20) + 9 = 29
Cal. shadow Pistol damage (C); 3d8 is trick attack damage: 1d4 + 2 + 3d8 ⇒ (2) + 2 + (4, 2, 1) = 11
If Trick Attack is successful, enemy is flatfooted until my next turn.
Bonus crit damage (C), though I doubt it applies: 1d4 + 2 + 3d8 ⇒ (1) + 2 + (4, 2, 4) = 13
He gives the ooze a sidelong glance. "Ah, how clumsy of me. You didn't need that pseudopod, did you?"
Challenge (Demoralize): 1d20 + 16 + 1 ⇒ (10) + 16 + 1 = 27
If enemy is shaken, the shaken penalty also applies to their weapon damage rolls. Also, they are off-target for all attacks except those made vs. Sovyal for the same duration as shaken. As far as I can tell, oozes don't have immunity to fear or mind-affecting in starfinder.
Elminar |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Elminar shakes his head at the further antics as he tries to ignore the burning laser to his armor, "I wouldn't know how the elven families would react. I haven't spent much time with my kind. Although I suspect they would favor that kind of chilling wordplay given how cold they they are." Elminar scoffs immediately in response to his own comment. "Now you have me following your lead. Lets give your weapon more power and end this before we take this much further."
Elminar motions across his datapad and directing the system toward the queried specs of Sovyal's weapon. With another invocation he channels more power into the shadow pistol.
Extra 4d6 damage on the Sovyal's next attack with the shadow pistol.
Move to Sovyal.
Standard to cast supercharge weapon on Sovyal's weapon.
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Gab moves up into a front position, pulling his ghost killer gelid hail pistol and bringing it up to fire on the creature. Now that he's closer, he tries to see if he can recognize any additional features of the creature.
I know Elminar used Life Science, but if Engineering works I'll try that. Specifically looking for any vulnerabilities or special attacks.
Engineering(identify creatures): 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (9) + 11 = 20
Life Science(identify creatures): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (15) + 4 = 19
Gab fires shards of ice toward the creature.
I am assuming that Sovyal's trick attack was successful. If so, then standard attack below. If not, then the Clever Attack roll ... and I'll spend 1 RP if failed to turn it into a success.
Clever Attack (Bluff, if needed): 1d20 + 16 + 1d6 + 1 ⇒ (11) + 16 + (3) + 1 = 31
Gelid Hail Pistol attack vs. flatfooted KAC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (17) + 6 = 23
Gelid Hail Pistol damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (5, 4) + 3 = 12 6 C & 5 P if it hits
GM Skeemo |
Oozes aren't immune to mind-affecting effects, but mindless creatures are, and this is one. However, Elminar's supercharge affects your hit, since Elminar moves first.
Supercharge Damage (C): 4d6 ⇒ (5, 3, 1, 4) = 13
Damage (F): 2d8 + 7 ⇒ (4, 5) + 7 = 16
Attack vs. Sovyal EAC (full): 1d20 + 17 - 4 ⇒ (5) + 17 - 4 = 18
The ooze rounds on Gab, whose attack inflicted the most harm, pumping out two shots with its artillery laser. One narrowly misses, the other catches the ysoki's shoulder.
Round 2 (bold may post)
HeeNee
Gab (-19 SP, -5 RP; IB received (Arratoi))
Elminar (-18 RP)
Round 3
Arratoi (-18 SP, -4 HP, -1 RP)
Sovyal (-1 RP)
Scavenger slime (-54 HP, flat-footed)
HeeNee |
HeeNee fires again.
Static arc rifle, combat tracking: 1d20 + 9 + 2 ⇒ (15) + 9 + 2 = 26
overcharged ouch!: 1d12 + 6 + 1d6 ⇒ (4) + 6 + (3) = 13 electricity damage
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Not sure about trick attack, but Clever Feint is sense-dependent not mind-affecting, so it should be flatfooted from mine, I think.
Sovyal |
"Always happy to lead, Elminar. Especially if it earns me more magical augmentation for my pistols." He chuckles out loud as he sends another quick shot at the ooze, twirling the gun between his fingers after the shot.
Trick Attack (Bluff): 1d20 + 15 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 15 + 4 = 26
Cal. Shadow Pistol: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18
Cal. Shadow Pistol damage (C); 3d8 is trick attack damage: 1d4 + 2 + 3d8 ⇒ (3) + 2 + (5, 2, 4) = 16
If Trick Attack is successful, enemy is off-target until my next turn.
I should have thought about this earlier, but Gab has such easy access to flat-footed, I should be applying off-target instead with my debilitating trick.
Elminar |
"After the blows to the head I've taken today, I won't argue with you leading into the next."
Elminar focuses on the magic, holding the spell from before and channeling the last of his energy into Sovyal's weapon before falling back.
Standard action, 2nd level spell into supercharge weapon on Sovyal's pistol.
Move back to wall.
Supercharge Damage: 4d6 ⇒ (6, 4, 1, 4) = 15
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
I can only do it once per enemy, though, not every round
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
"Take this, you laser-blasting slimeball!" He runs around some more and fires again.
Gelid pistol shot vs. flat-footed KAC: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (16) + 6 = 22
Note: The flatfooted from Clever Attack goes away at the end of my turn.
Gelid Pistol Damage: 2d6 + 3 ⇒ (6, 5) + 3 = 14 C/P
If anyone could move me up and around to the top of the ooze - 40 ft of movement - it would be appreciated.
Arratoi |
Arratoi opens fire while yelling, "Get that ignorant butt-scratching gemless gnat-ridden abomination!!!"
Swagger Hand Cannon vs KAC, improved get'em: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 = 18
Piercing Damage, improved get'em: 1d12 + 3 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 + 2 = 16
Oops, I forgot Arratoi has improved get 'em. Will spend 1RP this turn to provide everyone +2 to their attack and +2 to their damage against the ooze!!
GM Skeemo |
Not sure about trick attack, but Clever Feint is sense-dependent not mind-affecting, so it should be flatfooted from mine, I think.
Referring to shaken, not flat-footed. Although kind of an odd term, since oozes don't have feet.
With your combined firepower, you quickly lay waste to the ooze. You salvage the functional gear from its remains and also find a number of UPBs among the trash. Having completed your exploration of the Repository, you gather the survivors and treasures and return to the ship before the radiation takes hold again.
***
Upon your return to Absalom Station, First Seeker Luwazi Elsebo is ecstatic. With the Tear in the Starfinder Society’s possession, she knows that the rescue of the Starfinders behind the Godshield is near at hand. Thanks to your performance of this critical task, you have put yourselves at the top of Luwazi’s short list of agents who are capable of assisting her in this endeavor.
During the return trip, it's only a slight detour to drop Prima and her son off at the izalguun home world. The izalguuns are excited to reunite with their lost kin and they praise you for your resourcefulness.
Arratoi, Sovyal, and Elminar mutations: 3d3 ⇒ (1, 3, 2) = 6
That's a wrap! Chronicles are here! Give it a look and let me know if the sheet looks good. Once everyone gives me the nod, I'll remove the PDFs and mark the thread as inactive.
This was an exceptionally fun group to GM for. I hope I get to run for/play with you all again in the near future! I'll be sure to give you all the heads up next time I put together a game, I'd love to keep this team together if it's possible.
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
I take it back! At the last second, I turn off my environmental seals!
Just kidding ...
Sovyal |
Thanks Skeemo! Everything looks good on my chronicle. This was a very cool adventure. Felt really overwhelming when we got there and had to deal with so many dangerous things at once. And then big story revelations when we got inside. Loved it.
And thanks to the rest of you guys too for a great game. I hope I managed to make Sovyal come off as a charmingly vile scoundrel rather than an unpleasant jerk. Working on the characterization to try to hit a sweet spot in each group. He sometimes ends up really goofy too, which seems to be where we went this time. :>
Elminar |
Elminar does his best to focus on continued arcane digital inscriptions on the trip back to station as he tries his best to ignore the continued mutations to his body. Once an errant application begins blasting through his datapad jarring metal though he opts to turn off his technology and return to meditation.
There are some changes for my chronicle sheet purchases that I listed in the discussion thread. Let me know if you rather I append those on my end. The sheet looks good aside that.
I'm glad to been in this group, it was a very fun game as I continue to figure out where I am at personality wise for the character and also what spells I bring. I wasn't entirely happy, but I have a better idea what I want to do next time though!
I did enjoy Sovyal's personality and I was happy to try to play off of it through the game.
Gabbers "Gab" McTalkington |
Yeah, Sovyal was great. This was a really good group, with lots of personality ... although a few extra Hit Points wouldn't have hurt. But we made it through! Hope to play with you guys again sometime.

If it isn't some major purchase, you can go ahead and list it yourself on your sheet with my blessing.

Will do. Thank you again!
