You are about halfway to the courthouse when you all see a small bird flying towards you. It seems agitated and speaks in a jumble of languages including Common but its words are so hurried and jumbled that it comes out as gibberish
Knowledge planes to find out about the creature or Diplomacy if you want to try and calm it down.
Canetor
|
Being completely scared by a panicked talking bird which is clearly not natural, Canetor instinctively points an arrow at it.
| Audi ibn Jad |
The gnoll watches the bird? fly toward the group. It sounds as if it is actually speaking, although a bit nonsensical.
Anyone else seeing a f@@~ing talking bird?
| Daniel Penfold 351 |
Navir and Izora you recognise the creature as a nosoi pyschopomp. These are tiny outsiders that are often used as magical familiars. They have damage reduction except against adamantine. They are immune to death effects, disease and poison. They also have resistance to electricity and cold. They also have a song ability that can fascinate living or undead creatures within 60 feet.
The bird calms down at Rhade and Navir's words and takes a breath.
"My name is Qasin, I am a friend of Ptemenib, a priest of Pharasma. He was at the auction earlier and told me that he had seen an agent of the Silver Chain at the auction so he decided to follow him. However the agent saw him and led him into an ambush and now he has been captured by the gang. I was unable to really help. I remembered your bravery at the attack at the auction so hoped I would find you so I could request your aid.
The Silver Chain is one of the oldest criminal organisations in Wati. They are grave robbers, although they don't traffic in mumia."
Canetor
|
Canetor relaxes as the little bird gets friendlier. He puts his arrow away and says "How can we help?" He realizes he is offering help from the whole group even though he can't speak for them, but he got worried about the priest.
| Navir |
"Oh this sounds like a rushing type mission so my crutches may be an issue."
Navir casts fins to feat turning his merfolk tail into a pair of legs. "For a while, I can hustle a little more freely." Then he puts his crutches away.
| Vernon Tauls |
Vernon rocks back on his heels when he hears the news. "One of the grave robber gangs kidnapped a Priest? Stupid, Stupid, Stupid! I would say what were they thinking, but.... obviously not. Well, they ain't undead, but my chain doesn't discriminate! Where are they? We'll find your priest and bring him back. Does the temple want any of the gang members alive for questioning?"
Canetor
|
Canetor tells Vernon "Most likely, they need him to try to open one of the tombs. It is obvious why we need to go. Another evil might be set free unintentionally."
Canetor
|
Canetor tells the little bird "Lead us to them." He is blunt even when he is not pressed for time, which is the case.
| Daniel Penfold 351 |
Rhade, you know that mumia is an illegal drug made by boiling down the remains of ancient mummies.
Qasin leads you to the ancient brickworks (see map on right of Slide 3). It is clearly rundown although there are some faint signs that it is being used.
I have put you coming in from the west in case anyone wants to do some scouting/reconnoitring first
Canetor
|
Slide 4?
Canetor says to the others "Stay back, let me take a look first." and he moves carefully towards the building, trying to hear, see or even smell anything that might give them a clue about what is beyond.
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (16) + 9 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
| Vernon Tauls |
Vernon glanced around as Canetor directed everyone to hold. He knew that he wasn't particularly stealthy, especially in the armor that he wore.
Standing still unless it looks like he needs to run and join his companion for melee. The best laid plans and all.....
Perception: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16
| Audi ibn Jad |
Audi watches as the 1/2 orc begins to go off to scout ahead. The gnoll looks at the remaining group.
Had a fella that liked to scout off by himself in my last party. We called him This Time?...hahahahaha!
| Daniel Penfold 351 |
Canetor and Vernon you can see the closest area appears to have once been an old office which has been abandoned, although there are a set of stairs that seem to lead underground.
In the larger area further to the west there are 6 human figures that look like they are members of the Silver Chain. They have not spotted you so far.
Canetor
|
Is there a prisoner or something similar?
Canetor signals to the party in silence that there are six people. Next he climbs to a position where he can rain arrows on the cultists, while remaining unseen.
Climb: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (11) + 9 = 20
Stealth: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (3) + 10 = 13
Canetor
|
Even though he can't relay the information about the lack of prisoner to the others, Canetor hopes the group will approach and try to get some information before things escalate into a fight.
| Rhade Poshment |
"Running in and yelling at people as worked so far. What me to start a dialogue that will likely lead to a fight?"
”That sounds like a plan. We can follow you in and see what happens.”
| Navir |
"Well that's not great negotiating. We are leaving with the prisoner so I guess it is a FIGHT."
Naivr booms the word fight. Inspiring his allies.
Total: +2 attack, +2 damage, +1 morale bonus on saving throws against charm and fear effects

| Vernon Tauls |
Hearing the rather foolish choice, and Navir's encouragement, Vernon charges in with his chain reaching out....
Am I in range of charging and attacking? Not sure which map we're on or how close I am to any enemy.
| Navir |
Navier runs up and stabs at one of the people. "The Hand does not stand for kidnappers."
Attack silver +1 longspear : 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (10) + 10 = 201d8 + 5 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 5 + 2 = 13

Sorry about the maps - I had to scan them on from the magazine
Ra Khefr moves across and strikes the nearest smuggler, almost dropping him in one blow.
From his vantage point Canetor peppers a second smuggler with arrows.
@Canetor- I moved you back to where you would have gotten with your sneaking.
Rhade burns a third smuggler with acid. Meanwhile Vernon moves up to a fourth smuggler while Navir strikes the same one with his longspear.
Angered by this attack on them the silver chain attack.
One of them tries to attack Vernon

Block 3, your actions
Canetor
|
My position is great! Also, you may be able to find these maps in Google Images, if you want. I don't really mind the ones we have, just saying...
Canetor's armor absorbs most of the cultist's bolts. He decides to take that cultist down.
Fire at the one who fired at me.
Attack 1: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (20) + 8 = 28
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 5 = 13
Attack 2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Crit confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (9) + 8 = 17
Damage: 2d8 + 10 ⇒ (6, 1) + 10 = 17
If the crit takes him out, fire at the closest cultist alive.
